Pichler Helen DeBard

Pichler Helen (Biggs) DeBard, 74, passed away Fiday, Jan. 18, 2002. She was the beloved wife of George J., married 52 years. Loving mother of David (Juanita), Philip (Carolee) and Elaine Milko (Thomas). Dearest grandmother of Faye (mother, Charlene Pichler), Marie, Sarah, John, Matthew and Mark. Preceding her in death were parents, Naylor and Marian Biggs, and a sister, Jean Monachino.

Mrs. DeBard was a graduate of Mount Sinai School of Nursing and also a member of the D.A.R. and the Huguenot Society.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Ascension, 13216 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Busch-Saxton-Parker-Daniels Family Chapel, 44107.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be forwarded to the Cleveland Visiting Nurses Association Hospice, 2500 East 22 Street, Cleveland, 44115.

Faith Ellen Boff

Faith Ellen Boff, 60, of 6456 CR 55, Gibsonburg, died at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at the James Cancer Center of Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus. She was born in Fostoria Jan. 22, 1941, to Harold and Elnora (Kibler) Needles, both of whom are deceased. She married Edwin R. Boff Oct.11, 1958, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. He survives in Gibsonburg.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Les (Lynn) Mintz of Gibsonburg; a sister, Joyce Drake of Tiffin; and a grandson.

Christian wake services will be at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home.

Edna V. Sperry-Helms

Edna V. Sperry-Helms, 81, of Christopher Drive, Fostoria, died at 1:21 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria. She was born Dec. 23, 1920, in South Portsmouth, Ky., to Doc and Hailey (Potter) Parker. They are deceased. She was first married to Forest I. Sperry. He is deceased. Her second husband, Rollie "Corky" Helms, died in 1988.

Survivors include: two sons, Jack and Theodore Sperry, both of Bradner; three daughters, Ramona Maxwell of Gibsonburg, Mrs. Dale (Edith) Helms and Mrs. Clarence (Hailey) Crump, both of Fostoria; two step-daughters, Wendy Blausey of Gibsonburg and Vickey Vrabel of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Milioni officiating. Interment will be in the Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

John R. Smith Sr.

John R. Smith Sr., 55, of 686 S. Sandusky St., Lot 49, Tiffin, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.

John Alexander Gibson III

John Alexander Gibson III, 70, of Aigler Boulevard, Bellevue, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, as a result of a traffic accident.

Arrangements are pending at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue.

Ruby E. Scholidon

Ruby E. Scholidon, 73, of Fostoria, died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

Arrangements are pending at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Joseph Willard Shook I

Joseph Willard Shook I, 77 years old, 769 Greenfield Court, Tiffin, Ohio, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, in Mercy Hospital Emergency Room, Tiffin.

He was born July 14, 1924, in Bascom, Ohio, to the late Eber and Nettie (Emerine) Shook. On Dec. 2, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Phylis M. Kirchner, who survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Joseph Willard Shook II and wife Mendy of Attica, Ohio, and David Charles Shook and wife Julie of Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Rebecca Elaine Botton and husband John of Tiffin; a sister, Leota Mears of Fostoria, Ohio; and eight granddaughters. Also preceding him in death were four brothers and four sisters.

A graduate of St. Wendelin High School, Fostoria, Mr. Shook retired in 1982 after 32 years at National Machinery Company, Tiffin. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin and the Quarter Century Club.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 26, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Say officiating. The rosary will be recited in church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 25 at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio (419) 447-3113. The Quarter Century Club will meet at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Ecumenical Sharing Kitchen, St. Joseph Church or a charity of the donor's choice in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Judith M. 'Judy' Fox

Judith M. "Judy" Fox, 75, 67 Liberty St., Tiffin, Ohio, died Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.

She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Tiffin, to the late Louis and Lucille (Lang) Ranker. Her husband, Wilbur R. Fox, whom she married June 25, 1949, in St. Mary's Church, Tiffin, died Sept. 7, 1995.

Surviving are a son, Richard L. Fox of Tiffin; a son and wife, Robert L. and Jill Fox of Port Clinton, Ohio; daughters, Karen Sue Brickner and Mrs. Robert (Mary Ann) Boehler, both of Tiffin; sisters, Dorothy Ranker and Mariam Bryant, both of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Robert L. Boehler, U.S. Army specialist stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, and Jennifer Ann Boehler of Tiffin. Two brothers also are deceased.

Mrs. Fox had been employed as a server in the school cafeteria at East Junior High School for 27 years.

She also worked at Tiffin Glass House. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 26, in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Schroeder officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or St. Mary's Church.

Paul J. Haas

Paul J. Haas, 91, of Greenwood Heights Boulevard, Bellevue, died Wednesday Jan. 23, 2002, at Bellevue Hospital. He was born June 27, 1910, in Norwalk to William L. and Anna M. (Miller) Haas, both of whom are deceased. On July 21, 1937, he married Helen W. Buck. She died July 5, 1994.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Mr. Haas was a World War II Army veteran who served from 1943-1945 with the U.S. motion picture industry.

A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue, with Rev. Robert Tuccerri officiating. Interment will be in Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Auxter Funeral Home.

Bernadine T. Chapman

Bernadine T. Chapman, 84, 817 Kenilworth Ave., Coshocton, died at 9:31 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus. She was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Fort Wayne, Ind., to the late Mort Tyger and Hazel (Cotton) Tyger Merriman. In 1939, she married Carl B. Chapman. He died in 1971.

Survivors include: two sons, Russ Chapman (Joan) of Ashland and Carl A. Chapman (Sharry) of Conesville; a daughter, Donna Brueggemeier (John) of Tiffin; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Chapman of Coshocton and Mary Chapman Hamilton of Lakeland, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Given-Dawson Funeral Home with Pastor Roy Godfrey officiating. Interment will be in the South Lawn cemetery, Coshocton.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday and until service time on Saturday morning at the Given-Dawson Funeral Home, Coshocton.

Betty J. Gnepper

Betty J. Gnepper, 78, of Almont, Mich., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Medilodge of Yale. She was born June 14, 1923, in Sandusky to the late Albert and Henriette (Offenburg) Hartley. On May 21, 1943, she married Walter L. Gnepper in Fremont. He is deceased.

She is survived by: a son, Curt (Diane) Gnepper of Traverse City; daughter, Marlene (Jerry) Tuggle of Dryden; brother, John (Sis) Hartley of Sandusky; three sisters, Florence (Dale) Lewis of Tiffin, Eunice (Ed) Behm of Fremont and Kathryn Weiland of Bellevue; three grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.

Services were Tuesday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Byrd of the First Baptist Church of Almont officiating. Burial was in Ferguson cemetery, Almont.

Joseph R. Sherman Sr.

Joseph R. Sherman Sr., 83, died Wednesday Jan. 23, 2002, at 4:30 p.m. in Bethesda Care Center, Fremont.

Services are pending at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Mary Helen Jones

Mary Helen Jones, 87, of 725 Columbus Ave, Fostoria, died at 10:44 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, in Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria. She was born May 15, 1914, in Lorain to the late Brice and Iva (Blake) Kissell. She married Edward L. Buttermore. He preceded her in death. On Feb. 23, 1979, she married Ormal D. Jones in Fostoria. He died Sept. 29,1993.

She is survived by two sons: John Steven Buttermore of Bradenton, Fla., and Gregg Buttermore of Fostoria.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home with Rev. Alonzo Wise officiating.

Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. prior to services Friday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Charles F. Hellriegel

Charles F. Hellriegel, 81, of 5614 N. CR 25, Fostoria, died at 5:33 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born March 11, 1920, to the late William and Anna (Scharf) Hellriegel. In Waveland, Ind., Jan. 21, 1962, he married Mabel I. Sheley. She survives in Fostoria.

He is also survived by a brother, Robert W. (Marian) Hellriegel of Findlay.

Mr. Hellriegel was a World War II Army veteran.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Ind. Interment will be in Mt. Hope cemetery, Covington, with military graveside rites conducted.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, Ind.

Ralph W. Drake

Ralph W. Drake, 78, of 60 N. SR 101, Tiffin, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at St. Francis Healthcare Center, Green Springs.

Arrangements are pending at Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville.

Judith M. 'Judy' Fox

Hubert I. Elchert

Hubert I. Elchert, 79, 192 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio, died at 2:50 a.m. Friday Jan. 25, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Feb. 1, 1922, in New Riegel, Ohio, to the late Henry J. and Eva H. (Welly) Elchert. On April 12, 1947, in St. Aloysius Church, Republic, Ohio, he married Dorothy A. Welter. She died Jan. 23, 2001.

Surviving are a brother, George H. Elchert of New Riegel; a sister, Mrs. Anslem (Agnes) Reinhart of Tiffin; and many nieces and nephews. An infant son, an infant daughter and a brother, Elester Elchert, also are deceased.

Mr. Elchert retired from the State Highway Garage in 1987. He also had worked at Tiffin Glass Company for 17 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, American Legion Post 169, the Moose, the Eagles and held life memberships in the Disabled American Veterans and the AMVETS Post 48. He served his country in the Army during World War II.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday Jan. 28, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with Father Stephen L. Schroeder officiating. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery, Tiffin, with military rites conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio (419) 447-3113. A wake service will be at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Francis Home, Community Hospice Care or the donor's choice, in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Thomas E. Greer

Thomas E. Greer, 61, of Hernando, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002.

He was born Jan. 16, 1941, in Carey to John and Betty Greer.

Survivors include: his wife, Anita of Hernando, Fla.; two sons, Tim of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Jeff of Tiffin; a daughter, Gina Arsenault of South Bend, Ind.; six grandchildren; two brothers, Jim of Tequesta, Fla., and Joe of Plainville, Mass.; and four sisters, Deanna Phillips, Susanne Walter and Judy Hershman all of Carey, and Mollie Evans of Northville, Mich.

His parents, and a son, Chris, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at Our Lady of Consolation, 315 Clay St., Carey.
