Arthur W. Armon

Arthur W. Armon, 64, of East Center Street, Fostoria, died at 10:59 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Iler Jan. 11, 1938, to the late Pete and Georgia (Shook) Armon. He married Marcella F. Miller Feb. 14, 1957. They were divorced.

Survivors include: two sons, Arthur A. Armon of Fostoria and Phillip Bare of Upper Sandusky; three daughters, Tracey Holbrook of Alvada, Faye Kraylek of Fostoria and Teresa Johnson of Grover Hill; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home with the Rev. James T. Mussman officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery, Iler.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Imogene N. Potter

Imogene N. Potter, 74, of South Shore, Ky., died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, in Southern Medical Center, Portsmouth.

She was born in Republic Sept. 3, 1927, to the late Joseph and Norah (Bollinger) Ringle. She married Cecil Potter July 15, 1955, and he survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Donald R. Potter of South Shore, Ky.; three daughters, Heather Kelbey of Upper Sandusky, Norah Reed of South Shore, Ky., and Laura Calver of West Portsmouth; a brother, William Ringle of Republic; a sister, Marilyn Lake of Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Tusing and Patricia Wheelock.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Friday at the Roberson Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Neal officiating. Burial will be in Siloam cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the Roberson Funeral Home, South Shore, Ky.

Virgil C. Lawrence

Virgil Charles Lawrence, 80, of 7418 S,. SR 231, Tiffin, died at 12:26 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 6, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. He was born Aug. 15, 1921, to the late Harry and Leah (Kisabeth) Lawrence. He married Geraldine M. Curry and she died Oct. 22, 1989.

He is survived by: a son, (Ricky) and Betty Lawrence of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Gloria) Shaw of Gahanna and Mrs. Galen (Sue) King of Tiffin; a brother, Ernest A. Lawrence of Tiffin; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanne M. Lawrence, who died Oct. 17, 1965, and four brothers.

Mr. Lawrence retired from National Machinery after 32 years. Memberships included: Harmony United Methodist Church, National Machinery Quarter Century Club. He was also a Melmore High School graduate with the class of 1939.

He served with the U.S. Army during WW II.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. David Powell officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice or donor's choice.

Duane Norris

Duane G. Norris, 69, of Lompoc, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Norris was born May 8, 1932, in Fostoria, to Ivron and Alice Burman Norris. He was a 1950 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon School, Bascom.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later graduated from Parks College of Aeronautics at St. Louis University.

He came to Lompoc in 1960 from Greenville, Penn., and was employed for 30 years as a planner with Martin-Marrietta Corp. on the Titan missile program. Following his retirement, he and his wife volunteered for 10 summers at Yellowstone National Park. He also enjoyed traveling, collecting antique clocks and the family's cats.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ruth Norris of Lompoc; daughters, Dana Jeanne Norris of Lompoc and Carolyn Callihan of Sacramento; son, Samuel Norris of Santa Barbara; sister, Florence Norris of Fostoria; brothers, Henry Norris of Fostoria and Ivron Jr. of Tiffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond.

A memorial service will be at a later date in Ohio.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Partners of Central Coast, 277 South St., No. R, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401.

Celestia M. Brickner

Celestia M. Brickner, 97, formerly of Fostoria, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, in St. Catherine Care Center, Fostoria. She was born Oct. 4, 1904, to the late John P. and Susan (Siebenaller) Reinhart. She married Silverius E. Brickner July 10, 1928, in St. Joseph Church. He died Nov. 15, 1995.

Other survivors include: two sons, Leonard Brickner of Fostoria and Norman Brickner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Jo Ann Hill and Marilyn Hershey, both of Fostoria; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Art Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrews cemetery, Liberty.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Friday at Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.

John Maiberger

John Maiberger, 73, formerly of 25 Grandview Ct., Tiffin, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Sun City West, Ariz. He was born July 15, 1928, to the late Ralph and Louise Maiberger. His wife Regina survives at home.

Other survivors include: a son, Philip Maiberger of Clemson, S.C.; a daughter, Catherine Neary of Evanston, Ill.; three brothers, Ralph Maiberger of Palm Desert, Calif., Robert and Michael Maiberger, both of Tiffin; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Maiberger was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army 1950-1952.

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 23, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass.

Arrangements are being handled by Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Virgil G. Ball

Virgil G. Ball, 96, died Tuesday, Feb. 5 2002, at his daughter's home in Houston, Texas. He was born Aug. 18, 1905, in North Creek, Putnam County, Ohio, to Martin and Jennie (Mollett) Ball. He married his sweetheart Clara Dobmeyer in 1932 and they spent their entire married life in Toledo, where he worked for the National Biscuit Company for 47 years, retiring in 1972.

Devout Catholics, Clara and Virgil were members of Blessed Sacrament Parish, where he was a Knight of Columbus and proudly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After Clara's death in 1993, Virgil moved to the St. Francis Apartments in Tiffin, Ohio, where he spent eight happy years entertaining family and friends with his cheerful whistling. He had a particular devotion to the rosary, and recited it daily. He loved baseball and music, and as a young man, had a hard time choosing between playing ball or playing in the band, but baseball won out. In later years he always had music playing, especially that of Mario Lanza and the Three Tenors. He coached Little League for many years and was a champion bowler. He was also an ardent Notre Dame and Yankees fan and a world-class gardener.

He is survived by a sister, Blanche (Bill) Mormon of Continental; daughter, Barbara Ann (Alva) LaMarche of Houston, Texas; son, Cornelius (Judith) of Tiffin; grandchildren, Gabrielle LaMarche, Alva LaMarche III, Nina (John) Grice, Andrea (Terry) Siebert, Carlton LaMarche, Matthew Ball (Anne Green), Martin Ball and Mary Ball; three great-grandchildren: Kelly Siebert, Ellen Green and Brandon Grice; and granddaughter-in-law Janet Vischey.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Leo, Guy and Ferdinand, and by sisters, Gertrude (Louis) Okuley, Hilda Ball and Magdalene (Anthony) Dietrich.

Services will be held in Tiffin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Home Chapel. The rosary will be recited at 11:15 a.m.. Interment will be in St. Joseph cemetery, North Creek, Ohio. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Putnam County Historical Society or to a charity of your choice.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Oren Ritter

Charles Oren Ritter, 61, of Old Fort, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002. He was born Oct. 10, 1940, to Herbert E. Ritter, who survives in Fremont and Romayne E. (Stout) Ritter, who died in 1981. On June 4, 1994, he married Jeannette (Johnson) Fry. She survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Sandra Jo Atwood of Nashville, Tenn.; a stepson, Randy Fry of Tiffin; a stepdaughter, Gina Miller of Oak Harbor; four brothers, Earl S. and Thomas W. Ritter, both of Grayling, Mich., James G. Ritter of Burgoon and Raymond L. Ritter of Fremont; four sisters, Barbara Ann Ireland and Linda R. Mutchler, both of Fremont, Jane M. Cruz of Nashville, Tenn., and Martha Sue Shrider of Upper Sandusky; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Ritter was a U.S. Army veteran.

The services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Old Fort United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home.

Wenzel R. Williams

Wenzel R. Williams, 80, of Wauseon, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, in his residence. He was born March 1, 1921, in Seneca County to Howard A. and Marie (Gooding) Williams. On Jan. 3, 1953, he married Madge O. Kienath. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas L. Williams of Chattanooga, Tenn., and John R. Williams of Wauseon; a daughter, Mrs. Roseanna Wyse of Wauseon; three brothers, Howard J. Williams of Bellevue, Richard L. Williams of Delano, Calif., and Robert S. Williams of McClova; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Williams was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Foos & Son Funeral Home in Bellevue. Burial will be in Block cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Daniel P. Myers Sr.

Daniel P. Myers Sr., 47, of East CR 34, Green Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Bellevue Hospital. He was born July 15, 1954, in Chillicothe to Clarence and Eleanor Myers, Mrs. Myers survives in Adelphi. On May 8, 1982, he married Carol Hurst. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Daniel P. Myers Jr. and Michael A. Myers, both of Green Springs; a daughter, Crystal M. Myers of Green Springs; five brothers, Roger Seymore, Carl and Jimmy Myers, all of Chillicothe, Junior Myers of Vickery and Dale of Texas; five sisters, Eva Rister of Beaver, Ohio, Mary Robinson, Nancy McComis and Sharon Myers, all of Adelphi, and Teresa Myers of Chillicothe.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at McPherson cemetery.

Visitation hours will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Chalmer E. Swerlein

Chalmer E. Swerlein, 87, formerly of 100 East Jackson St., McCutchenville, died at 8:24 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, in Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

He was born to Eddie and Ada (Gibson) Swerlein in Seneca Twp. of Seneca County on Dec. 22, 1914. He married Wanda E. Might on April 16, 1939, and she died May 26, 1999.

A daughter, Mrs. Richard (Elaine) Kern of McCutchenville, survives

Three brothers, Elmer, Junior and Clair Swerlein are deceased.

He was a 1934 graduate of McCutchenville High School and was a Navy veteran during World War II. He was former owner of Swerlein Painting and Decorating, McCutchenville, and also worked at Tiffin Developmental Center. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ; a 60-year member of Wyandot Lodge 314, F and A.M., McCutchenville; a member of William Myers Chapter 196, McCutchenville; member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo; and a member of New Riegel American Legion Post 354. He loved to work with wood, especially making doll houses. He also liked to fish and paint landscapes.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. A military graveside service will be conducted by New Riegel American Legion at the Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:45 p.m..

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, McCutchenville; or to Hospice of Wyandot County.

Charles Oren Ritter

Shawn P. Weber

Shawn P. Weber, 11, of 4099 S. TR 22, Tiffin, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. He was born Oct. 24, 1990, to Ralph and Sharon (Gillig) Weber.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Scott and David, both at home; maternal grandparent, Mildred Gillig of New Riegel; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard (Rosie) Weber of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Elmer Gillig.

Shawn was a 5th grader at St. Mary's School and on the basketball team. Also, he played baseball on the Tiffin City League. He was a Mass server at St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a member.

The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, followed by the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday, with a Christian Wake Service at 1:30 p.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Grade School or Mercy Hospital of Tiffin Emergency Room.

John E. Nickel

John E. Nickel, 89, of 3876 CR 37, Tiffin, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, in Arbors at Clyde. He was born in Tiffin, Jan. 27, 1913, to the late John R. and Mary (Ernst) Nickel. He married Dorothy M. Miller April 27, 1939, and she died Sept. 10, 1981.

He is survived by: a son, John "Tom" Nickel of Fremont; a daughter, Carol Susan Nickel of Tiffin; two brothers, William Nickel and Richard Nickel, both of Tiffin; two sisters, Betty Andrews and Mary Tyree, both of Bettsville; three grandchildren, Steph, Chris and Melanie; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Nickel was a retired farmer and self employed Ag Lime hauler.

He was a member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church. Other memberships include: Tiffin Moose, Seneca County Farm Bureau, Green Springs VFW Dad's Club, United Commercial Travelers and the Union Grange. He graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1933.

Service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Engle-Young Funeral Home.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Engle-Young Funeral Home, Green Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.

Margaret W. Pearce

Margaret W. Pearce, 90, of W. Maple Street, Clyde, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Bellevue, Jan. 10, 1912, to Samuel M. and Lucy M. (Tonkin) Walter, both of whom are deceased. She married W. Howard Pearce Nov. 10, 1934, and he died March 28, 1982.

She is survived by a son, William D. Pearce of Clyde, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Bakertown cemetery.

Visitation is 10:30 a.m. until the services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.
