Agnes M. Brandt

Agnes M. Brandt, 76, of W. TR 112, Fostoria, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, at the Toledo Hospital.

She was born May 22, 1925, in Wooster to Hilary H. and Cecilia M. (Gillig) Sheeter; both are deceased. She married Marion C. Brandt June 6, 1953, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, and he died June 6, 1977.

Survivors include: two sons, Joseph A. Brandt and John M. Brandt, both of Fostoria; five grandchildren; three brothers, Robert J. Sheeter of Shreve, Hilary H. Sheeter of Cuyahoga Falls, Paul R. Sheeter of Hendersonville, N.C.; and a sister, Cordelia Holman of Fostoria. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cletus M. Sheeter.

Mrs. Brandt was a homemaker, and retired from the personnel department of Seneca Wire and Mfg., Fostoria, after 28 years of service. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, and its Rosary-Altar Society, and a former Parish Council member, a 1943 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, and the American Legion Auxiliary, Reach for Recovery, and worked with local hospice organizations.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, with the Rev. Art Niewiadomski, officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Memorials may be made to St. Patrick, Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Theresa L. Smith (Smith)

Theresa L. Smith (Smith), 41, East TR 58, Bloomville, died Friday, March 29, 2002, at home.

She was born Aug. 20, 1960, in Fremont to Donald and Marilyn (Shuman) Smith. She married Thomas W. Smith Dec. 22, 1955, in Tiffin.

Survivors include: her spouse, Thomas W. Smith of Bloomville; her father, Donald Smith of Fremont; three step-sons, Willis Smith of Gambier, Mark and Steve Smith of Tiffin; two step-daughters, Pamela Dunn of Ohio and Christina King of Green Springs; a sister, Kathy Karr of Fremont; a brother, Ferlin Smith of Fremont; 16 step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Shuman (Smith).

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and was involved in the Women of the Moose of Fremont. She loved to collect unicorns.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Jacobs cemetery, Scipio Township.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements by Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, 425 E. State St., Fremont.

John M. Bakies

John M. Bakies, 81, 623 West St., died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Carey to Grover and Rosa A. (Kin) Bakies. He married Treva E. Rickle Aug. 19, 1942. Mr. Bakies was an Army Air Corp veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Treva E. Rickle of Carey; a daughter, Barbara Williams of Upper Sandusky; two grandchildren; three brothers, Grover "Butch" Bakies of Gretna, La., Vincent Bakies of Alexandria, La., and James Bakies of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters, Delores Hoerig of Toledo, Rosemary Ward and Anna Mae Draper, both of Carey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery with military graveside rites.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A Christian wake service will take place 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Harriet Jane Gibson

Harriet Jane Gibson, 87, of 192 St. Francis Ave., died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at her home. She was born March 6, 1915, to Ollie (Holtz) and Leonard Baker Keller on the Keller farm, two miles north of Tiffin, Ohio. On June 11, 1941, she married William Henry Gibson in Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin.

She graduated from Columbian High School in 1933, and from Heidelberg College in 1937, with a Bachelor of Music degree. She taught piano and pedagogy at Heidelberg until 1945. She received a Master of Music degree from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago in 1940, and did further piano study with Egon Petri in the summers of '41, '42 and '44. In 1954, she resumed teaching at Heidelberg College on a part-time basis and continued until 1973, when she and her husband both retired from the college.

She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ, a charter member of Mothers' Circle there, and a charter member of the Tiffin League of Women Voters. Her life and the lives of others in the community and elsewhere have been greatly enriched by her generous and welcoming spirit. When she saw a need, she opened her heart and her home. She reached out to others in ways too numerous to mention.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C. Richard (Julie) Cox of Philadelphia, Pa. and Mrs. Wellington (Emily) Ow of East Lansing, Mich.; two grandchildren, Millicent (Ow) Sullivan and Yolanda Cox; a brother, Wayne Scott Keller of Tiffin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Whitney Keller and Dr. John Wendell Keller; and a sister, Florence Lynch.

A memorial service will be in Trinity United Church of Christ at 11 a.m. Friday, April 5. The Rev. Laurie Hill, the Rev. Clifford Farmer and the Rev. Dr. David Noss will be officiating at the service. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the William Henry Gibson and Harriet Jane Gibson Award at Heidelberg College or to either the Good Samaritan Fund or Our Church's Wider Mission at Trinity United Church of Christ.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Nola Jones

Jimmie Nola Jones, 79, of 25 Christopher Drive, Fostoria, died 11:05 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Union S.C. to the late Walter and Martha (Sims) Epps. She married Albert Jeter and he preceded her in death. She then married Thomas Jones in 1977, he also is deceased.

Survivors include: two sons, Al "Bo" Jeter of Cleveland and Douglas Sipe of Fostoria; four daughters, "Mamie" Hunter, Cleva Sanchez, both of Fostoria, Janet Johnson of St. Paul, Minn., Tonee Morant of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Higher Ground Ministries, Fostoria. Burial will be at Fountain cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, Thursday.

Mann-Hare Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Helen E. Stoner Shoup

Helen Elizabeth Stoner Shoup, 87, formerly of 204 N. Liberty, Attica,, died Sunday, March 31, 2002, in Hillside Acres, Willard, following a brief illness.

She was born June 12, 1914, in Venice Township, to the late James Franklin and Clara Edith (Fike) Stoner. On June 12, 1935, in Attica, she married Harold A. Shoup, who died Aug. 14, 1955.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry F. (Sylvia) Shoup of Palmyra, Pa. and Richard A. (Joan) Shoup of Odell, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Karen K.) Bayer Sr. of Attica; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, J. Franklin Stoner of Willard.

Mrs. Shoup, a farm wife and third grade teacher at Attica Elementary School for 24 years, retired in 1979. She graduated from Attica High School, class of 1932; graduated from Bowling Green Normal School in 1934 and earned her degree in teaching from Bowling Green State University in 1968. A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica, and its Dorcas Circle, she taught Sunday School for many years. She also was a member of the Women's Literary Guild, The Just Friends Club, Attica Senior Citizens and the Attica Historical Society.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica, with Pastor Janine Dress officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery, Attica.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, phone (419) 426-4094.

Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 326 S. Main St., Attica, OH 44807 or the donor's favorite charity.

L. Wilson Cardwell

L. Wilson Cardwell, 85, of Township Road 258, Alvada, died 10:12 a.m. Sunday, March 31, 2002 at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.

He was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Hancock Co., to Seth and Ida (Myers) Cardwell. He married Florence Zellers, Sept. 22, 1938, in Findlay.

Survivors include: wife, Florence Cardwell of Alvada; three sons, Ronald Cardwell of Mt. Gilead, Dennis Cardwell of Fostoria and Roger Cardwell of Vanlue; two daughters, Rosemary Walter of Carey and Gloria Duffield of Fostoria; a brother, Clyde Cardwell of Carey and a sister, Vera Arnold of Vanlue; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the West Independence United Methodist Church, West Independence. Burial will be Union cemetery, West Independence.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Alpha Hall Hatton

Alpha Hall Hatton, 82, of Whitesburg, Ky., died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at her residence.

She was born April 14, 1919, to the late Irvin and Edna (Adams) Hall.

Survivors include: two sons, Lenville "Buddy" Hatton of Whitesburg, Ky. and Billie Hatton of Richmond, Ky.; two daughters, Betty Johnson of Fostoria and Carol Baker of Whitesburg, Ky.; three brothers, Paul Hall, Benny Ray Hall, and Donald Gene Hall all of Tiffin; two sisters, Julia Hall Lawson and Sillar Hatton Montgomery, both of Tiffin.

Joseph Daniel Coss

Joseph Daniel Coss, 30, of 562 Angela Drive, Fostoria, died 6:04 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 24, 1971, in Fostoria, to Thomas C. and Lorraine (Dible) Coss, both surviving in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two brothers, James C. and Steven J. (Tammy) Coss, both of Fostoria; maternal grandmother, Jocelyn Dible and her companion Leo Bohring of Port Clinton; Paternal grandmother, Virginia Coss of Cygnet; two nieces, Megen and Bailee; a nephew, Dustin and several aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Clair Dible, and paternal grandfather, Austin Coss.

Mr. Coss was a 1991 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and camping.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Burial will be at Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lupus Foundation or Seneca County Dialysis Center, both in care of Mann-Hare Funeral Home, PO Box 47, Fostoria, OH 44830

Gene V. Longnecker

Gene V. Longnecker, 75, of Sandusky Co. Rd. 195, Clyde, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 16, 1926, in Castalia, to Harold and Florence Longnecker. Mr. Longnecker was a Navy Seabee veteran serving during World War II.

He married Margaret (Prescott) Longnecker, May 14, 1966. She is deceased.

Survivors include: his mother, Florence Longnecker; a son, Richard Longnecker of Fremont; a daughter, Phyllis Hush of Clyde; a brother, Clinton Longnecker of Sandusky; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Military graveside provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edna C. Boyer

Edna C. Boyer, 84, formerly of 188 Greenfield St., Tiffin, died 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Minerva Nursing Home, Columbus.

She was born July 2, 1917, in Virginia to the late George and Effie J. (Mathias) Fadley. She married Gordon Boyer in October 1940 in Wythfield, Va. He preceded her in death in 1975.

Survivors include: a son, Daniel Boyer of Bentonville, Ark.; three daughters, Joyce Kerchner of Westerville, Nancy Kulka of Blackwood, N.J., and Judy Page of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Fadley of Maryland, Oliver Fadley of Roseville, Calif., George "Jim" Fadley of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald Boyer; a brother, Charles Fadley; and three sisters.

Mrs. Boyer had lived in Columbus for six yeras. She attended school in the south. She was retired from the State Hospital and was a member of the Assembly of God.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Minerva Park Nursing and Rehab.

Willie Estep

Willie Estep, 81, of 725 Columbus Ave., Fostoria, died 4:10 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

She was born March 3, 1921, in Timberville, Va., to Jack and Emma (Estep) Udell.

Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Good Shepherd Home Chapel. Burial will be Friday in Fairmont cemetery, Fostoria.

There will be no visitation.

Hoening Funeral Home is charge of the arrangements.

Ada L. Pfeiffer Goodwin

Ada L. Pfeiffer Goodwin, 100, of Dover, died Monday, April 1, 2002, at Country Club Retirement Center in Dover.

Born in Buckhorn, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Frederick E. and Anna F. Feller Pfeiffer. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School and Kent State University, she was a school teacher for 30 years, having taught in the Roswell, New Philadelphia and Dover school systems.

She was a life-long member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia and had served as Primary Sunday School superintendent for 30 years. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women's Association, past president of the Blue Star Mothers, past president of the Union Hospital Twig, past president and member since 1943 of the Women's Study Club. She was a former member of the board of trustees of the Senior Citizens and Girl Scouts Council and was a loyal worker and organizer for the American Heart Association.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Goodwin and is survived by a daughter, Genevieve A. (Richard) Dick of Columbus; a son, William F. (Norma) Goodwin of Tiffin; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter also are deceased.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with the Rev. Jeffrey R. Gerber officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 422, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, or the American Heart Association, 4916 Hills and Dales Road NW, Canton, Ohio 44708.

Mildred Irene Voorheis

Mildred Irene Voorheis, 84 formerly of 309 W. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, died 8:20 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2002, at Fairhaven Health Care Community.

She was born Nov. 24, 1917, in Scuyler County, N.Y., to Walter A. and Etta (Davis) Voorhees. She married Dewitt S. Voorheis Sept. 21, 1934, in Florida. He is deceased.

Survivors include: a son, Ronald Voorheis of Baltimore, Ohio; five daughters, Irene Walton, Sharon Shirey of Upper Sandusky, Diana Hoover and Barbara Voorheis, all of Upper Sandusky, and Phyllis Myers of Cape Coral, Fla.; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald Voorhees of Vera Beach, Fla., and Donald Voorhees of Ithaca, N.Y.; three sisters, Isabelle Isbel of Monroeton, Pa., Etta Mae Lovell of Burdett, N.Y., and Sandra Green of Ithaca, N.Y.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home.
