Dr. John E. Weisenberger

Dr. John E. Weisenberger, 64, 1401 Burr Oak Road, #106B, Hinsdale, Ill., died April 2, 2002 at his vacation home in Naples, Florida.

He was born July, 29, 1937, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Edward J. and Evelyn M. (Huth) Weisenberger.

He was married Feb. 4, 1961, to Rosemary O'Brien.

Survivors include: a son; John (Stephanie) Weisenberger, Wilmette, Ill.; five daughters; Mr. and Mrs. James (Kathleen A.) Fiewegar, Wilmette, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Ian (Dr. Julie) Stevenson, North Riverdale, Ill., Mr. and Mrs Daniel (Elizabeth A.) Keegan, Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. David (Kristen M.) Grant, Chicago, Ill., and Margaret E. Weisenberger, North Riverdale, Ill.; his mother, Evelyn M. Weisenberger, two sisters Mrs. Dale E. (Ruth M.) Gerber, Mrs. Norbert J. (Jean C.) Gosche; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Weisenberger, and nine grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father; a brother, Joseph; two brothers-in-law: Dale E. Gerber and Norbert J. Gosche; and his mother and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dan O'Brien.

He graduated from Calvert High School in 1954 at age 16 and from Heidelberg College in 1957 at age 19.

He then entered Loyola University Medical School and received his medical degree in 1961. He then spent two years in the U.S. Air Force in Massachusetts and returned to Mercy Hospital in Chicago where he practiced and trained students.

He was semi-retired due to ill-health in 1992. He then became administrator of Mercy's out patient operating clinic in Justice, Ill., until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the American College of Surgeons.

After retirement he built his own woodworking shop at their home in Lake Geneva Wis., where he followed in his father's footsteps making furniture for his children. They called his shop his miniature operating room.

Elliston Funeral Home in Hinsdale handled all of the arrangements. A funeral Mass was at Sr. Isaac Joques Catholic Church Saturday, April 6, with burial in Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillsdale, Ill.

Charles M. Ray Jr.

Charles M. Ray Jr., 84, of Tiffin, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 25, 1917, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late Charles M. and Helen (Preisinger) Ray Sr. On Feb. 22, 1943, in New Castle, Pa., he married Regina B. King, who died Sept. 17, 2000.

Survivors include: four daughters, Barbara (Richard) Kuhn of Sun City, Ariz., Patti (Frank) Redman of Charlotte, N.C., Cathe (Donald) Hammer of Tiffin and Terri (Theodore) Temper of Huron; a sister, Gloria Boch of Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

An infant brother, George Ray; and a sister, Helen Coe, also are deceased.

Mr. Ray retired in 1982 after 43 years as a transmission foreman for Columbia Gas Company. An avid bowler and golfer, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin; Knights of Columbus, Eagles, Moose and the Holy Name Society.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 11, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edward Dunn officiating The rosary will be prayed at 10:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Tiffin. A funeral Mass also will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. John Vianney Parish/St. George Catholic Church, Pittsburgh. Burial will be in St. John Vianney Parish cemetery, Pittsburgh.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, (419) 447-3113.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or for Memorial Masses in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Jack C. McPhail

Jack C. McPhail, 84, passed away March 9, 2002, after a long illness.

He was born in Sebring, Ohio, on Nov. 21, 1917, to Daniel and Gladys McPhail. He graduated from Columbian High School and attended Heidelberg College.

In 1946, Mr. McPhail married Mae Eastman and that same year moved to Tyler, Texas, to help his father build a new factory, the American Clay Forming Co. He lived in Tyler for 14 years until the company was sold to Ferro Corp. of Cleveland.

He then retired and moved to Pompano Beach,, Fla., in 1960.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Jean Marie Flom of Pompano Beach. Memorial services took place March 16 at Forest Lawn.

Clifford L. Walters

Clifford L. Walters, 86, of 104 1/2 Kansas, Green Springs, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont.

He was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Fremont, to Martin and Marie K. (Snyder) Walters.

Survivors include: a son, Gregory D. Walters of Fannettsburg, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a step-son, Jerry Growel, a brother and five sisters.

Mr. Walters was retired from QuiKut after 42 years. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Green Springs; VFW Post 6067; American Legion Post 295; Clyde Eagle 2291 and an inactive fireman for the Green Springs Fire Department. He was an Army Veteran serving during World War II.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home in Green Springs with the Rev. Jared Williams officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery in Fremont with military services.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, with American Legion visitation at 7 p.m. and VFW visitation at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Paul E. Funkhouser

Paul E. Funkhouser, 69, of 1922 E. US 224, Tiffin, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Ruffing Family Care Center of Tiffin.

He was born Mar. 2, 1933, in Watson Station, Seneca County, to Jackson Christy and Minnie Ada (Carrick) Funkhouser. He married Betty Lou Zellner on May 29, 1960 at Trinity EUB in Republic, which the Rev. Daniel Bare officiated.

On July 7, 2002, he entered Ruffing's Family Care Center of Tiffin. He had Lou Gehrig's disease since 1996.

Survivors include: a son, Mark Alan and Karen Funkhouser of Elgin, Ill.; a daughter, Anita Marie Funkhouser of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a sister, Helen Johnson of Sycamore; and three grandchildren, Joshua Paul, Joy Elizabeth, and Jordan Emily Funkhouser.

Mr. Funkhouser worked at National Machinery Co. for 33 years and also worked for a farmer/ditching contractor for 10 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising roses, and collecting ceramic dogs and eagles. Mr. Funkhouser attended the First Baptist Church.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with the Rev. David Powell, pastor of Harmony United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Quarter Century Club members will meet in body at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease), Community Hospice Care or the Lupis Foundation.

Alice B. Wenner

Alice B. Wenner, 96, formerly of 7 W. Market St., Tiffin, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in the Autumnwood Care Center, where she was a resident.

She was born Nov. 11, 1905, in Cincinnati, to the late Bert and Eva (Werner) Wisely. Her third husband, Clarence C. Wenner, whom she married Nov. 19, 1966, in Wyandot County, died Jan. 17, 1982. Her first husband, Alvin Bacon, died in 1975, and her second husband, Fred L. Jump, whom she married in 1946, died in 1959.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Jeanne) Christian of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, James Bacon, Robert Bacon II, Donna Bacon, David Bacon, Daniel Bacon, Michael Durham of Bellville, Ohio and Mrs. Tom (Linda) Wilkinson of Tiffin; nine step grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Robert Bacon; two step sons, Robert Wenner and Dr. H.R. Wenner; four step daughters,, Mary Jane Adams, Twyla Ranker, Mrs. Arden (Ruth) Coppler and Martha Carter, also are deceased.

A 1923 graduate of Columbian High School, Mrs. Wenner was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Luther Fellowship, Lutheran Church Women, Victory Girls and a sewing group called The Piece Makers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Hofmann and the Rev. Jan Kucera as co-officiants. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Wyandot County, Sycamore.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church scholarship fund, Autumnwood Care Center or Kiwanis Manor.

Raymond A. John

Raymond A. John, 60, of 125 St. Paul Drive, Fremont, formerly of 131 Melmore St., Tiffin, died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla.

He was born April 6, 1942, in Tiffin, to Harold and Lilly (Arthur) John. His mother survives in Tiffin and his father is deceased. On Sept. 19, 1999, in Fremont, he married LuAnn Schneider, who survives. He first married Twila Nusbaum March 17, 1965. She died in 1998.

Other survivors include: children, Mrs. Myron (Glea) Herr of Attica, Ronald A. and Randy A. Martin, Mrs. Scott (Jennifer) Kneeskern and Mrs. Daniel (Bette) Magers, all of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Betty) Saba of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Mrs. James (Nancy) Wertz of Tiffin; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graduate of Columbian High School, Mr. John worked 40 years at R.R. Donnelly Company in Willard as a book binder, retiring in 2001. An avid Sprint Car fan, he was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12, in Greenlawn cemetery, Tiffin, with the Rev. Robert Quillen officiating.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to: St. Johns Lutheran Church in Fremont.

Maybelle 'Janie' M. Kinn

Maybell "Janie" M. Kinn, 93, of West Ridge Drive, Fostoria, died 11:43 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2002, at the Independence House, Fostoria.

She was born Aug. 24, 1908 in Vickory to George and Mary E. (Yetter) Ruddock. She married Clarence Hineline in 1929 in Port Clinton and he died 1937. She married A.D. Kinn, June 27, 1941, in Toledo and he died Aug. 1, 1978.

Survivors include: two sons, John D. Kinn of Fostoria and Donald E. Kinn of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Jane E. Buser of Boise, Idaho; and four grandchildren, Riley and Sarah Kinn; Peter and Katee Buser.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; a son, Robert Hineline-Kinn; two brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Kinn was a homemaker and had been a first grade school teacher with the Fremont City Schools. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Fostoria. She was a 1926 Graduate of Port Clinton High School, and a Graduate of Bowling Green University. Mrs. Kinn was a member of the Church's Altar Guild, Daughters of the American Revolution, Port Clinton Chapter 267, Order of Eastern Star, Fostoria Country Club, Catawba Island Club, Altrusa, Fostoria Area Republican Club, Fostoria Community Hospital Auxiliary, Fostoria Forum Club, Historical Society, Smithsonian Institute, Women's Investment Club of Fostoria, and the Toledo Art Museum.

Services will be noon Saturday at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Fostoria, with the Rev. John Trumble officiating. Burial will be at St. Wendelin cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the Greater Fostoria Community Foundation.

William R. Turner

William R. Turner, 23, formerly of San Diego, Calif., died Saturday, April 6, 2002, in a train accident.

He was born April 14, 1978, in San Diego, Calif., to James and Barbara (Crawford) Snider.

There will be no funeral in Tiffin.

Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret E. Fausnaugh

Margaret E. (Presley) Fausnaugh, 83, of Middletown, died 11:39 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Middletown Regional Hospital.

She was born Dec. 1, 1918 in Kyles Station, Butler County, to Fred Charles and Nannie M. (Mallory) Presley. She married Hillard W. Fausnaugh in 1988.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gail Thomas and Kay Wagers of Middletown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Presley of Tunell Hill, Ga.; and two sisters, Juanita Trocine of Pennsylvania and Nancy Deem of Germantown.

Her funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial will be at Butler County Memorial Park, Trenton.

Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bernice E. 'Bernie' Yates

Bernice E. "Bernie" Yates, 83, of S. Main Street, West Millgrove, died 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born Jan. 26, 1919 in Wood County to Albert and Emma (Willett) Yates.

Survivors include a sister, Doris Shreffler of West Millgrove.

Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Riverview cemetery, West Millgrove.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert G. Hayman

Robert G. Hayman, 80, formerly of West Street, Carey, died 5:40 a.m. at Fairhaven Community Center, Upper Sandusky.

He was born April 23, 1921, in Carey to Hugh and Vivian (Twining) Hayman.

He married Marceline Risner and they divorced. He then married Arneiva Massengale. She survives in Carey.

Mr. Hayman served as 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Other survivors include: a son, Jonathan Hayman of Carey; a daughter, Joyce A. Bostwick of Findlay; two step-sons, Terry Hunter and Keither Hunter, both of Carey; and three grandchildren.

His funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joseph W. Fritz

Joseph W. Fritz, 49, of 1208 Central Ave., Tiffin, died 12:58 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Mercy Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1952, in Tiffin, to Robert and Joan (Martin) Fritz.

Survivors include: a son, John Fritz of Fostoria; five brothers, Larry Fritz of Marblehead, Steve Fritz of Sycamore, Ed Fritz of Tiffin, Randy Fritz of Bucyrus and Robert Weaver of West Virginia; and two sisters, Kim Kurtz of New Riegel and Kelly Johnson of Tiffin.

Mr. Fritz was a lifetime resident of Tiffin. He worked at the ECI Resident Home in Republic. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Tiffin Moose.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
