James W. Rowlett

James W. Rowlett, 71, of 31 College St., Bloomville, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

He was born Aug. 22, 1930 in Trimble County, Ky. to Steve Simmons and Essie Alma (Aldridge) Rowlett. He married Frances E. Mizen on June 18, 1977 at the Second United Church of Christ in Tiffin. She survives in Bloomville.

Surviving are two sons, Steven A. and (Heather L.) Rowlett of Bloomville and James M. and (Sherry) Rowlett of Mansfield; two daughters, Heather E. Rowlett of Bloomville and Mary Haines of Bowling Green, Ky.; a brother, Ronald E. Rowlett of North Vernon, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Barbara Jean (Larry) Heitz of Elizabethtown, Ind., Nellie M. Alvey, Beulah K. Browning, both of North Vernon, Ind., and Brenda Rowlett of Ind.; six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold D., Robert A. and Carroll V. Rowlett.

Mr. Rowlett retired in June 1991 from Whirlpool Corp., in Clyde, where he worked as a ecode operator and small tool repairman for 39- 1/2 years. He was a past member of the DAV Chapter 34 and was a member of God's Lighthouse in Tiffin. Mr. Rowlett was an U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with Pat Danner officiating.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Chris E. Hilborn Smith

Chris E. Hilborn Smith, 46, of Ruth Avenue, Mansfield, died Tuesday morning May 7, 2002 in her home following a sudden illness.

She was born Nov. 16, 1955 in Bucyrus to Berl and Jean (Null) Hilborn and graduated from Ridgedale High School in 1975, and recently found much pleasure working with the Maddox Group of Dublin.

She is survived by her son Eric Masters of Breckenridge, Colorado; her daughter Casey Smith attending the University of Dayton; her father of Morral; two sisters and a brother-in-law Lynne Mathews of Sandusky and Johnna and Jim Drozdowski of Portland, Oregon; two brothers and sisters-in-law Tim and Cheryl Hilborn of Chesterville and Ted and Deb Hilborn of Tiffin.

Chris took great pride in spoiling her nieces and nephews Robbie, Danielle, Josh, Morgan, Jaclyn, Ashley, Zachary and Nathan.

Her mother preceded her in death.

The friends and family of Chris want to express their heartfelt appreciation to all who loved her. Chris knew no stranger and impacted each of our lives in such a positive fashion. Chris graced this world with the unique sense to extend a helping hand to all in need. Chris had the innate ability to come up with the right words, quote or a hug at the appropriate time. To find out only five weeks ago that she had cancer and that it had reached an advanced stage was a severe blow. Chris called upon her deep faith to teach us all: "It is what it is." She faced her fate with unmatched dignity and grace. We thank God for the time Chris blessed this earth and each of our lives.

To honor Chris, a special service will be 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002 in Epworth United Methodist Church, 249 East Center Street, Marion, Ohio. The Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, Mansfield (419-884-1711), is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Way of Marion County 399 E. Church St., Marion, OH 43302 (740) 383-3108.

Ileta Zellner

Ileta F. Zellner, 81, of 400 16th St., Mendota,, Ill., died Sunday, April 28, 2002, in Heartland Health Care Center, Henry, Ill.

She was born April 23, 1921, in Fulton County, Ohio, to Emery J. and Leah Belle (Foster) Krieger. She married Earl Zellner Nov. 23, 1943, in Bloomville, Ohio.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Phyllis (Gerald) Colgan of West Peoria, Ill. and Jeanne (Gary) Luhr of Louisville,Ky.; four grandchildren and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Amanda, and a brother.

Mrs. Zellner graduated from Bowling Green State University. She was an elementary school teacher in Ohio for seven years and then taught in Troy Grove and Lincoln grade schools for 14 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Gardener's Club of Mendota.

Services were in the First Presbyterian Church, and burial was in Restland cemetery, Mendota.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Mendota.

Annabelle Moses

Annabelle Moses, 90, died Jan. 14, 2002.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenlawn cemetery with the Rev. Rose Wilson officiating.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Sharon Lynne Fleck

Sharon Lynne Fleck, 71, of California, formerly of Tiffin and Fostoria, died Friday, May 3, 2002.

Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Mangett

Mary Louise Mangett, 101, of Defiance, died 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Harborside Healthcare Center in Defiance.

She was born Sept. 1, 1900 to Herbert and Eugenie (Reinche) Sauber. She married Leo Sauber who died in 1952.

Surviving are 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, Defiance. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Grace Opal (Payne) Saad

Grace Opal (Payne) Saad, of Newark, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Licking Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 3, 1918 in Akron to George and Fern (Whetstone) Payne. She married Donald Saad and he survives in Newark.

Other survivors include: two sons, Bill (Sandy) Saad of Newark and Richard Saad of Fla.; a daughter, Karen (Bill) (Saad) Simonds of Tiffin; a brother Bill Payne of Marietta; four sisters, Eloise Burwell of Ala., Joretta Wheaton Reynolds of Marietta, Mary Lou Lassiter of Fla., Dolly Jean Smith of Marietta; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Veria Legraen; two brothers, Bob and Everett Payne and a sister, Waldine Beardmore.

Mrs. Saad worked at Licking Memorial Hospital for 25 years as a nurse tech. She was a member of Wright Memorial Church, did volunteer work at Licking Memorial hospital and the Red Cross. She was a member of Owens Corning Retirees, campers, and Oinette Groups, member of the International Poetry Hall of Fame.

Funeral Will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Blau officiating. Burial will be in Newark Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Iva P. Durnwald

Iva P. Durnwald, 74, of Young's Mobile Homes, Fremont and Bowling Green, Fla., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at St. Francis Rehab. Hospital in Green Springs.

She was born Dec. 31, 1927 in Vickery to Trevor Norman and Jenny (Churchill) Norman. She married Richard J. Durnwald on July 21, 1949. He survives in Fremont.

Other survivors include: a son Bruce Durnwald I of Vickery; two daughters, Patricia Root and Jill Fick, both of Fremont; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fremont. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Louise L. Ballfinch

Louise L. Ballfinch, age 90, of 11 East Ellen Street, Bloomville, died Thursday morning, May 9, 2002, at Ruffing Care Center in Bloomville.

She was born June 17, 1911 in Rockingham County, in Virginia, to Fred and Laura (Silveus) Flagle. She married Royal A. Ballfinch, and he died July 14, 1991.

Surviving are three grandsons, James A. and Terry L. Starkey of Tiffin, and Jack E. Starkey of Bloomville; a granddaughter, Mrs. William (Kristy R.) Cochran of Tiffin; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Starkey, a granddaughter, Reva Ann Starkey, a great-granddaughter, Amy Lynn Cochran, two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Ballfinch had worked as a trimmer at Pioneer Rubber Co. in Attica, and she later worked as a park custodian for the State of Ohio, retiring in 1981. She was also a member of the Car Codlers.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 11, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with pastor Terry Steinhauer Sr., of the Hopewell Church of God in Bascom, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Bloomville.

Visitation will be Friday evening, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Bertha A. Solze

Bertha A. Solze, 88, of 2240 St. Rt. 19, Green Springs, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002 at her home. She was born April 11, 1914 to Earle and Alala (Metz) Huddle. On July 4, 1933 she married Dale F. Solze in Monroe, Michigan, he died July 9, 1986.

Surviving include: two sons, Dr. Dale A. Solze of Oak Harbor, and Norman P. Solze of Fremont; a daughter, Mrs. Claude (Carolyn) Young of Green Springs; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.

Preceded in death were two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Solze was a homemaker, and Green Springs High School graduate Class of 1932. Her memberships included Green Springs United Methodist Church, and Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2002 at the Green Springs United Methodist Church with The Rev. James Scott officiating. Burial at Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home. Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice; Green Springs United Methodist Church; and/or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Robert D. Barringer

Robert D. Barringer, 77, of Fostoria died at 3 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002 at his daughter's residence in Swanton. Born April 27, 1925 in Fostoria to Charles Lee and Chloe Blanch (Grant) Barringer. He married Doris Imber on Nov. 9, 1946, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Brian G. and Bruce L. Barringer, both of Columbus; three daughters, Mrs. Sandra Coe of Swanton, Mrs. Judith Hartley of Fostoria, and Mrs. Nancy Bateson of Delta; a brother William F. Barringer of Fostoria; seven grandchildren; and a step great grandson.

Mr. Barringer was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War II where he was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial at Fountain cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Sister M. Jovita Morman

Sister M. Jovita Morman, 76, Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2002, in St. Francis Convent, Tiffin.

She was born May 25, 1925, in Miller City, to the late Joseph and Mary Gertrude (Schmenk) Morman.

Surviving are: two brothers, Joseph Morman of Marion and Vincent Morman of Mansfield; and two sisters, Sister Gertrude Morman, Tiffin Franciscan and Sister Damien Morman, Tiffin Franciscan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were four brothers, the Rev. Edmund Morman, SVD; the Rev. Wilbert Morman, SVD; Adolph Morman and the Rev. Richard Morman; and two sisters, Mae Recker and Sister Anita Morman, Tiffin Franciscan.

Sister Jovita was received into the Order of St. Francis in 1942, professed her First Vows in 1944 and her Final Vows in 1947. She received her education in Joliet College of St. Francis, Joliet, Ill.

Sister Jovita was a teacher from 1946-1961 in the following locations: Edgerton, Fort Jennings, New Cleveland, St. Sebastian and New Washington. From 1962-1964 she was a teacher, superior and a principal in Peru, Ohio. From 1965 to 1978 she taught at Miller City, Waynesville, N.C., St. Sebastian, Attica Local and Seneca Huron. In 1979, in St. Louis, Mo. she was a participant in the Theology of Religion Life Program. In 1980, 1981, 1983 and 1984 at St. Anthony Villa, Toledo, she was a tutor, religion teacher and coordinator of Sunday liturgies. 1982 in Carey, she assisted in the Pilgrim House. From 1985-1992 she served as pastoral associate in Edgemont, McIntosh and Ardmore, S.D. In 1992, she returned to Tiffin where she was organist, minister of service and a driver for St. Francis Home.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. Her nephew, the Rev. Kenneth Morman, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Convent.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Walter Saldausky

Walter Saldausky, 83, of W. Jackson St., Fostoria, died at 2:10 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Cleveland to Casimer and Magdalyn (Thompson) Saldausky. He married Dorothea Duncan Jan. 30, 1948, in Fostoria; she died Aug. 31, 2000.

Survivors include: a son, Dennis of Fostoria; a daughter, Linda Tatman of Chillicothe; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, William of Fostoria; and a sister, Mary Windsor of Grand Haven, Mich.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Services are being handled by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Martha M. Failor

Martha M. Failor, 92, formerly of 597 Riverview Dr., Upper Sandusky, who had been residing at the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, died at 4:46 p.m., Thursday, May 9, 2002, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 2, 1910, in Crawford County to William Otto and Louise (Eckstein) Sell. She married Homer Failor Dec. 31, 1938, in Upper Sandusky; he died Dec. 28, 1998.

She was the last of her family.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation is noon-2 p.m. before the service Monday.

James 'Jim' Bulkowski

James "Jim" Bulkowski, 82, of 1301 Fairway Dr., Fostoria, died at 1:09 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2002, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Fostoria, to Constant S. and Josephine (Janoski) Bulkowski. He married Betty Ridenour Jan. 23, 1942, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria; she survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son, Gary A. Bulkowski of Fostoria; four brothers, Chester "Chet," Francis "Francie," Lawrence "Joy" and Kenneth "Butch," all of Fostoria; and three sisters, Florence "Tootsie" Gillig, Patricia "Pat" Bulkowski and Martha Emerine, all of Fostoria.

He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with burial in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia.

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
