Myron L. Swaisgood

Myron "Moe" L. Swaisgood, 41, of Rawson Avenue, Fremont, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Med Central Hospital in Mansfield.

He was born on May 19, 1960, in Fremont to Lewis and Betty (Michael) Swaisgood. In 1978, Moe graduated from Ross High School in Fremont, where he played football, and graduated from Terra Technical college with an associate's degree in welding. He was the superintendent of water and sewer maintenance for the City of Fremont. Moe received, from the Ohio EPA, Class I Wastewater Operations License, Class II Distribution Operators License, Class II Correction Operators License and also received a license for Pesticide Applicator and Class A CDL.

He married Vickie D. (Webster) on Nov. 20, 1987, in Fremont and she survives.

Also surviving are: three children, Ralph, Meagan and Kaitlynn Swaisgood, all of Fremont; a brother, Mick E. Swaisgood of Helena; two sisters, Shari L. Strausbaugh of Fostoria and Susie E. Rowell of Risingsun; a stepbrother, Fred Swaisgood of Bellbrooke; and a stepsister, Nancy Schrier of Manistique, Mich. His mother and stepfather Dwight Swaisgood, also survive in Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be at the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sunday with funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Community Church in Fremont, where he will lie in state one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Oakwood cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the children in care of Fremont Federal Credit Union.

Emily Everhart Koontz

Emily Everhart Koontz, 52, of Ceredo and Montgomery, W.Va., died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born April 23, 1950, in Tiffin to Richard and Thelma Everhart.

She graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School, received two degrees from Southern West Virginia Community College with honors, a bachelor of science degree from Pikeville, Ky., College, magna cum laude, and a doctor of jurisprudence from the College of Law, West Virginia University. She was an attorney with West Virginia Legal Services in Huntington.

Survivors include: her husband, Leslie L. Koontz; two sons, Shannon Stacey of Fremont and Steven Stacey aboard the USS Enterprise at Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Skye Stacey of Fremont; a step son, Timothy Koontz of Charleston; a step daughter, Kelly Koontz of Ceredo; a brother, Alan Everhart and his wife Peggy of North Plainsfield; two sisters, Susan and her husband the Rev. James Mann of Toledo and Barbara and her husband the Rev. Dwight Crunkle of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peters Episcopal Church, 23rd Street and Adams Avenue, West Huntington, with the Rev. Robert Thomas and the Rev. James Mann officiating. Burial will be private at U.S. National cemetery, Grafton, W.Va.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church.

Because Emily was so compassionate and spent her entire legal career helping the needy and indigent, in lieu of flowers, Emily requested donations be made to The Emily E. Koontz Scholarship Fund, c/o the West Virginia College of Law, P.O. Box 6130, Morgantown, W.Va. 26506-6130, which is intended for law students with an interest in public interest law.

John Albert Clay

John Albert Clay, 77, of Sunbury, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Columbus to the late Henry and Ethel (Reed) Clay.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia (Smith) Clay of Sunbury; a son, Paul (Robin) Clay of Sunbury; a daughter, Janet (Van) Cole of Republic; four grandchildren, Kenneth (Kelli) Cole, Bonnie Cole, Danny and Luke Clay; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kaleb and Kylie Cole.

Mr. Clay was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a retired accountant for Ross Laboratories and was a member of the West Berlin Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Hilltop Y Men's Club of Columbus. Mr. Clay was also a U.S. Navy veteran and served his country during World War II.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at West Berlin Presbyterian Church, 2911 Berlin Station Road, Delaware, with the Rev. Barbara Morrison officiating.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at the Bennett-Brown-Rodman Funeral Home, 92 S. Sandusky St., Delaware.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grady Hospital Volunteer Services.

Greta I. Dick

Greta I. Dick, 62 of 2023 E. Clinton TR 122, Tiffin, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at her residence.

She was born May 14, 1939 near Willard to Arley and Estie (Dunn) Adams. She married Roger Dick in 1962 in Bellevue. He survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: a son, Kevin Dick; a daughter, Mrs. Joni (Chris) Widman of Tiffin; a brother, Joe (Alice) Adams of Bellevue; five sisters, Mrs. Janice (Ed) Vargo of Norwalk, Mrs. Virginia (Charles) Sanderson of Clyde, Mrs. Glenda (Merrill) Smith of Fremont, Mrs. Pat (Tom) Nation of Paris, France and Mrs. Avis (Dennis) Kreais of Dublin, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Shirley) Dick of Flat Rock; six nephews, five nieces, five great-nieces; five great-nephews; and three grandchildren, Alanna, Eline and Noah Widman of Tiffin.

Mrs. Dick was a 1957 graduate of Thompson High School and studied to be a medical technologist at John Carnegie Institute in Cleveland. She worked at the Tiffin Developmental Center for 31 years as a licensed medical technologist and was a member of the American Medical Laboratory Technologists, Allen Eiry Senior Center and PERS. Mrs. Dick was a member of Christ's Church at Tiffin. She loved to cook at Vacation Bible School and for anyone who stopped in at her back door.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ's Church in Tiffin with the Rev. Jon Bravinder officiating. Burial will be in Bishop Seybert cemetery in Flat Rock.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday, 7-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Christ's Church at Tiffin.

Robert Fritz

Robert Fritz, 75, of Upper Sandusky, died Saturday, May 11, 2002.

He was born Aug. 8, 1926 in Hopkinsville, Ky., to Robert and Leona (Hayes) Fritz.

Survivors include: five sons, Larry Fritz of Port Clinton, Edward Fritz of Tiffin, Randy Fritz of Bucyrus, Steve Fritz of Sycamore and Robert Weaver of West Virginia; and two daughters, Kim Kurtz of New Riegel and Kelly Johnson of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Joseph Fritz.

Mr. Fritz had lived in the area for 50 years and was a retired iron worker. He was a member of the Tiffin Moose.

Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. There will be no burial at this time.

Visitation will be 2:30-4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Donald R. Stockmaster

Donald R. Stockmaster, 76, of Havana, Ohio, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Medcentral Health System, Mansfield, after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 14, 1926 in Havana to Ralph and Irene (Mahl) Stockmaster. He married Evelyn M. (Smith) Stockmaster on June 22, 1948 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Peru, Ohio.

Survivors include: his wife Evelyn Stockmaster of Havana; a son, Richard F. (Betty) Stockmaster of Willard; two daughters, Mrs. Diane (Robert) Bivens and Mrs. Debra (L. Jim) Quigele, both of Willard; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Cleona) Stockmaster of Attica; a sister, Mary Wiesbrook of Libertyville, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stockmaster was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a 1944 graduate of Willard High School and retired in 1988 from the CSX Railroad, where he had worked for many years. During World War II, Mr. Stockmaster served in the U.S. Army receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Bismark and a member of the Moose Lodge 2153 &emdash; where he he earned the Pilgrim Degree &emdash; Disabled American Veterans, V.F.W., American Legion and Eagles, all of Willard. He also was a member of the Golden Eagles, the Rod and Gun Club and the K.of C.'s John Neuman 1117, all of Monroeville.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sebastian's Catholic Church in Bismark, Ohio.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. at the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Home in Willard and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a Pilgrim service 7 p.m. today and a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Sebastian's Catholic Church Endowment Fund or to the American Diabetes Association.

Hilda B. Tiell

Hilda B. Tiell, 86, 285 Second Ave., Tiffin, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Sept. 3, 1915, in New Riegel, to the late Leo N. and Mary R. (Elchert) Trausch. She married David M. Tiell in New Riegel and he died Nov. 21, 1986.

Surviving are a son, Donald and (Janet) Tiell of Berwick; grandsons, Donald Jr. and Michael Tiell; daughter-in-law, Barb Tiell of Tiffin; granddaughters, Theresa Tiell and Sherry Runion; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Cletus Trausch of Upper Sandusky; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Germaine) Bland of Carey and Mrs. Howard (Mildred) Ohler of West Lodi.

Deceased family members include: a son, Joseph Tiell; seven brothers, Rufus, Gerald, Gilbert, Eugene, Carl, Oscar and Leo Trausch; and two sisters, Wilma Schalk and Marie Trausch.

A homemaker, Mrs. Tiell also worked at the Shawhan Hotel and Clyde Whirlpool. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 16, in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank A. Murd officiating. The rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sharon Lynne Fleck

Sharon Lynne Fleck, loving mother and grandmother, died Friday, May 3, 2002, after succumbing to a long battle with diabetes and three strokes.

Born on Nov. 28, 1930, in Fostoria to Florence and John Saddoris, she was the youngest of six children. As a young girl growing up, she had a great appreciation for the performing arts, studying dance, singing, piano and classical violin. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and helping her family in their floral business.

Sharon had a great respect for education. She studied at Bowling Green State University and Toledo University, majoring in music and psychology. She fell in love and married James Paul Fleck on Oct. 7, 1950, in St. Mary Church in Tiffin. Tragically, in 1952, she became a widow with two infant sons. In 1959, she met George Ember and in the following years had three daughters. They lived in Joliet, Ill., until they moved to California in 1962.

After moving to San Fernando Valley, Calif. as a single mother of five children, she began a successful real estate career in the mid-1960s and in the mid-1970s she pursued a second career in escrow, until she had a stroke in 1991, 18 years later.

Preceded in death by her husbands, James Paul Fleck and George Ember, and her grandson, Spencer Christian Engstrom, Sharon is survived by her sons, David Fleck and James Fleck, and her daughters, Cynthia Engstrom, Tracy Tapia and Jeribeth Ember, and her grandchildren, Jared, Selena, Maria and Cara.

Sharon will be remembered most for her fighting Irish spirit, her hope and determination to survive, her humor and laughter, her generosity and open-hearted acceptance of others, and her unconditional love to those who mattered most, her children.

A Celebration of Sharon's life will be 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be at St. Mary Church at 2 p.m. Friday, May 17. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Jim Fleck, in Tiffin.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association.

Thomas J. Carroll, D.D.S.

Thomas J. Carroll, D.D.S., 64, of 3430 SR 99, Monroeville, died unexpectedly Friday morning, May 10, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 6, 1937, in Sandusky.

He is survived by his wife, the former Penny Ackerman; his mother, Esther Carroll of Sandusky; three daughters, Denice (Richard) Schafer of Boardman, Darlene Carroll of Buffalo, N.Y., and Cynthia (Richard) Brodman of Tiffin; a son, Timothy Carroll of Auburn Hills, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Dr. John L. Carroll of Lima, James Carroll of South Euclid and Dr. Richard Carroll of Centerville; two sisters, Margaret Carroll Snyder of Akron and Rita Carroll Thompson of Kettering; and nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by three infant sons, Thomas, Steven and Michael and his father, Dr. John L. Carroll.

Dr. Carroll was a graduate of Sandusky St. Mary's Central Catholic School, John Carroll University and the school of dentistry at Loyola University, Chicago, Ill. He then served in the U.S. Air Force at Webb Air Force Base, Big Springs, Texas. He returned to Sandusky after his time in service to start his dental practice, retiring in 1998 after 34 years. He had served on the board of directors of the former Providence Hospital and on the school board of St. Peter and Paul School. He was a member of the National Dental Association and Ohio Dental Association. He was a long time member of the National Exchange Club of Sandusky, holding multiple offices over the years, most recently as president. He was an avid reader and gardener, specializing in Japanese Maples.

A Mass was offered by Father Dunn Sunday at the home of Esther Carroll. Private visitation and services for the family will be at the Jump and Pfeil Funeral Home, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville. Pastor James E. McClain of Calvary Baptist Church, Norwalk, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Monroeville.

Memorials may be made to the Nicholas Ackerman Scholarship Fund, in care of Firelands Federal Credit Union, Norwalk; Monroeville Public Library, 34 Monroe St., Monroeville, the Sandusky Exchange Club or by planting a Japanese Maple in his memory.

Alta M. Hetzel

Alta M. Hetzel, 94, formerly of 5348 TH 16, Sycamore, died at 2:35 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2002, at Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky.

She was born June 16, 1907 in Hardin County to William H. and Lorretta M. (Minter) Everhart. She married J. Dewey Hetzel on June 16, 1926. He died July 25, 1966.

Survivors include: two sons, Mr. J. Dewey Hetzel Jr. and Mr. Ronald L. Hetzel, both of rural Sycamore; two daughters, Mrs. Miriam (Robert) Heimrick of rural McCutchenville and Mrs. Eloise (Gene) Dunbar of Mt. Blanchard; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Avery, Elmer and Ralph Everhart; two sisters, Mrs. Estella (Ed) Ruhlen and Mrs. Mabel (B. F.) Walton; and a grandson, Abe Hetzel.

Mrs. Hetzel was a homemaker and worked in the Dietary Department at Heidelberg College and Wyandot Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Upper Sandusky: a former member of the Mohawk Sixty Plus Club and a former member of the Tymochttee Homemakers Club. She liked to watch birds, work in her garden and enjoyed her flowers.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Wyandot County.

Jon David Rinehart

Jon David Rinehart, 39, of 205 W. Walker St., Upper Sandusky, died at 1:03 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 25, 1962 in Upper Sandusky to Donald Robert and Mary Jayne (Bricely) Rinehart.

Survivors include: his mother, Mary Rinehart of Upper Sandusky; a brother, Jeff L. Rinehart of Upper Sandusky; and a sister, Leslie Ann Rinehart of Carlsbad, Calif.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bringman Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert Andrew Smith

Robert Andrew Smith, 21, of Liberty Street, Clyde, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 28, 1980, in Fremont, to Michael and Penny Ellis (Smith) Havens.

Survivors include: his father and stepmother, Janet Smith of Helena; his mother and stepfather, Raymond Havens of Fremont; fiancee, Katie Wise of Clyde; a son, Logan Andrew Smith of Clyde; a brother, Richard Smith of Maumee; a sister, Rebecca Smith of Clyde; a half brother, Michael Smith of Helena; five stepbrothers, Adam Stevens of Bowling Green, Mark Stevens of Helena, and Brian Strausbaugh, James Havens and Raymond Havens Jr. all of Fremont; a stepsister, Melissa Cooley of Bowling Green; grandparents, Sarah Smith of Clyde and Richard and Lois Ellis of Mohall, N.D.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Laura V. Gill

Laura V. Gill, 91, formerly of Limerick Road, Clyde, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Parkview Care Center, Fremont.

She was born Aug. 10, 1910 in Seneca County, to Benjamin Franklin and Della (Bordner) Shellhorn. She married Allan R. Gill on Dec. 18, 1926. He died May 13, 1982.

Survivors include: four sons, Robert, Clyde, Thomas and Gerald, all of Clyde; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Saville of Clyde; a sister, Mrs. Peral Pennington of Fremont; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lillian S. Nielsen

Lillian S. Nielsen, 93, of Port Clinton, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at H.B. Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton.

She was born April 15, 1909, in Scott County, Bristol, Va., to James and Palestine (Wilcox) Ohlinger.

Survivors include: son, Donald (Nancy Ross) Nielsen of Tiffin; sisters, Evelyn (Benore) Meinke and Dorothy (Benore) Hunter, both of Port Clinton; brother, Arthur Benore of Brooksville, Fla.; four grandchildren: Marcus and Daniel Nielsen, Debora Souder and Pamela Jeffers; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brother, Herman Ohlinger; brother, Robert Ohlinger; sisters, Elsie Fletcher, Lydia Beggs, Effie Burns and Isabelle Lorensen.

A homemaker, Mrs. Nielsen was a member of the Port Clinton Wesleyan Church and a long time Sunday School teacher.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16 in the Gerner-Wolf-Brossia-Marsh Funeral Home, Port Clinton. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery, Port Clinton.

The family suggests memorials to the donor's choice.
