Samuel M. Brommer Sr.
Samuel M. Brommer, Sr, 75, formerly of Ft. Meyers, Fla, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
He was born June 12, 1926, to Ralph and Ida Brommer of Wampum, Pa.
He married
Bernice Brommer on Sept. 28, 1946.
Survivors include: a son, Sam Brommer, Jr. of Tiffin; three daughters, Patricia Haines of Pa., Linda Blevins of Ga. and Sandra Allen of Pa.; a brother; two sisters; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brommer was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII from November 1944 to June 1946.
There will be no funeral. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Edna V. Bise
Edna V. Bise, 91, formerly of East High St., Fostoria, currently of Copperwood Park Lane, Spring, Texas, died 1:05 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, at her daughter's home.
She was born Dec. 13, 1910, in Fostoria to Orlando and Bessie (Glasgow) Dillon. She married
Royal Irvin Bise on April 20, 1930 in Bascom. He died Aug. 2, 1950.
Survivors include: a son, Gary Bise of Columbus, two daughters, Joyce True of Bellfountaine and Wendy Bise of Spring, Texas; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Harrold-Florianna Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funerel home.
Hilda Beachler
Hilda Beachler, 91, formerly of Bellevue, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton.
She was born March 19, 1911 in Bellevue to Grover Cleveland and Lottie Grace (Moore) Walters.
Survivors include: a sister, Ellen Kauble of Clyde.
She was buried in Bellevue cemetery. The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
John E. Hartley
John E. Hartley, 80, of 3310 Hayes Ave., Sandusky, died early Sunday, May, May 26, 2002, at Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 7, 1922 in Perkins Township to Albert E. and henrietta M. (Offenburg) Hartley. He married
Frances (Bell) Hartley on Dec. 27, 1947. She survives in Sandusky.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Debbie Moore of Dublin; a grandson; three sisters, Kathryn Weiland of Bellevue, Florence Lewis of Tiffin and Eunice Behm of Fremont.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Sandusky. Burial will be in Perkins Twp. cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Eugene Joseph Gillig
Eugene Joseph Gillig, 82, of 2801 S. Main St., Findlay, formerly of Tiffin, died at 2 p.m. May 24, 2002, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Erie County, Sandusky.
He was born April 9, 1918, in Tiffin, to the late Ralph George and Mary (Brunner) Gillig. On May 25, 1940, in Tiffin Presbyterian Parsonage, he married
E. Miriam Dawson, who survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Fredrick Eugene Gillig of Tiffin and Robert Dawson Gillig of Delaware; and five grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, R. George Gillig, his twin brother and Louis and Baby Gerald Gillig; and a sister, Margurite Sawyer.
Mr. Gillig, a retiree, was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist and its board, the Elks, where he served as president; School Employees Retiree, former president of the Jaycees, member of the Tiffin Senior Center, served as a Scout leader, former president of Kiwanis, member of the Findlay Y-Bridge and the AMVETS, where he served as president. He attended Calvert High School and served during World War II in the Aleutians and European Theater and in Japan, where he was injured. He resided in Findlay for six years.
Private graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, in Green lawn cemetery, with Reader Betty Morgan.
There will be no viewing. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Paul J. Hall
Paul J. Hall, 73, of 105 8th Ave, Tiffin, died 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2002, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
He was born April 1, 1929 in Letcher Co., Whitesburg, Ky. to the late Irving and Edna (Adams) Hall.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Bryan "Shannon Hall" Base of Toledo; two grandchildren, Tad Thallman and Beth Thallman, both of Toledo; two great-grandchildren, Sunnie Jean Thalami and Hunter James Hamic; two brothers, Ray Hall and Don Hall, both of Tiffin; and two sisters, Mrs. Julie Lawson and Mrs. Monty (Sillar) Montgomery, both of Tiffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Loren M. Hall; two brothers, Lenville Hall and Dewey Hall; and two sisters, Alpha Hatton and Josephine Makesmetz.
Mr. Hall has lived in Tiffin since 1953 and was retired from Whirlpool. He was a veteran serving in Korea from 1950-1952 and was a life member of the Tiffin DAV.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery. Graveside rites will be performed by the United Veterans Council.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Frank Kleinhenz Jr.
Frank J. "June" Kleinhenz Jr., 83, formerly of 234 CEO St., Tiffin, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in St. Francis Home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1918, in Tiffin, to the late Frank J. and Henries (Gibbon) Kleinhenz. He was first married
to Jane Sacksteder in August 1943. She died April. 17, 1971. On May 26, 1973, in Rochester, N.B., he married
Helen Rose Lee. She died March 4, 2001.
Surviving are two daughters, Julie Miller of World, Wyo. and Mrs. Ed (Elli) ERISA of Cincinnati; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Keith (Barbara) Muller-Conrad of Pittsford, N.B., Mrs.W. Michael (Diana) McCaulla of Tiffin and Mrs. Larry (Mary Jo) Mumford of Avon Lake; a sister, Mrs . Louis (Catherine) Steyer of Tiffin; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren. A brother, Paul is deceased; and a step-daughter, Marcia Muller-Lonsway died in 1972.
A 1936 graduate of Calvert High School, he attended St. Joseph College in Indiana. Mr. Kleinhenz had been employed as a manager at Tiffin Brass and Bronze Foundry. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus-3rd degree and Elks Lodge 94, Tiffin. He also was a member of Mohawk Country Club, Tiffin Serra Club, Cotillion Dance Club and the Nifty-Fifty Bowling Club.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, in St. Joseph Church. The rosary will be prayed at the church at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Mausoleum.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Home.
Mamie Rossow
Mamie Rossow, 99, formerly of 269 S. Washington St., Tiffin, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at Ruffing Family Care Center of Bloomville.
She was born April 26, 1903 in New York City to Frank and Vanlora (Switzer) Topper. She married
Carl Rossow in 1956 in Toledo. He preceded her in death.
Surviving are: a niece, Lois (Hoover) Foster of Defiance; many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her foster father, Dennis Hoover, a nephew, Charles Hoover, six foster brothers and three foster sisters.
Mrs. Rossow retired from General Electric in 1968 where she had worked for 22 years as a wire winder. She was a member of St. Andrews Church in Liberty and attended St. Joseph Church in Tiffin. She was also a member of the Tiffin Eagles and Tiffin Moose.
Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Liberty. Burial will be in St. Andrews cemetery, Liberty.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Nolan J. Tusing
Nolan J. Tusing, 55, of Atlantic Beach, Fla., died peacefully May 23, 2002, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born Aug. 9, 1946, in Tiffin, and moved to Atlantic Beach 23 years ago from Orlando.
He retired as Chief following 22 years of service in the U.S. Navy, which included a tour during the Vietnam War. Currently, he worked at Mayport Middle School and was a member of the American Legion Post 129.
Family members surviving include his wife, Gloria Tusing; children, Joseph (Danielle) Tusing and Jonathan Tusing, all of Atlantic Beach; father, Nolen Tusing of Tiffin; sister, Cynthia (Gregg) Gibson of Tiffin; brother, T. Randy (Miriam) Tusing of Sylvania, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. His mother, Kathleen Ringle Tusing predeceased him in 1975.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22 in the chapel of Quinn-Shalz, a family funeral home with Chaplain John Mann, U.S. Air Force., retired, officiating.
To honor Nolan wishes, memorialization will be through cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 3rd Street at Ponte Vedra Blvd.
Norma I. Whalen
Norma I. Whalen, 78, of 554 Foxcreek Dr., Lehigh Acres, Fla., died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at her daughter's home in Lehigh Acres, shortly after being diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer in mid-March, 2002.
She was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Joliet, Ill. to the late Ferdinand and Olive (Kaffer) Fischer. On April 15, 1942, she married
John A. Whalen in Illinois. He died Jan. 31, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Whalen and her husband, Jere Carrick of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and their son Joseph Whalen of Phoenix, Ariz; a son, Michael Whalen of Madison, Wis. and his son Heath Whalen and two daughters Madeline and Hannah Whalen; one sister, Betty Lou Lohman and her husband Robert of Mt. Lebanon, Pa.; one brother, William Fischer and his friend, Vera Arnholt of Frankenmuth, Mich,
Mrs. Whalen was a resident of Tiffin from 1964 to 1994. An avid golfer and bridge player, Mrs. whalen was a Realtor and was employed by both Wagner Realty and Wayne Griffin Realty. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Mohawk Golf Club. Mrs. Whalen was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated her 9th anniversary of sobriety.
A sunrise memorial service was conducted 7 a.m. Sunday, May 12, at Majestic Golf Club in Lehigh Acres. As per her wishes, on Wednesday, May 15, her family interned her ashes along side her husband in the Risen Church Garden at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church in Sarasota, Fla.

The Rev. A. Richard Conrad
The Rev. A. Richard Conrad, 84, Formerly of Fostoria, Resident of Encore Village at Tuscon, Ariz., died 6:45 p.m. at his residence.
He was born Jan. 14, 1918 in Bascom to the Rev. Glen and Lorena (Dillon) Conrad. He married
Minnie L. Boice on Aug. 31, 1938 in Bowling Green. She died May 18, 2000.
Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Moyer of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Rev. Paul Conrad of Bowling Green and two grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Brethren Church in Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.
Delia M. Ramirez
Delia M. Ramirez, 73, of 1159 Brace Ave., Tiffin, died 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.
She was born Dec. 27, 1928 in Lockland, Ohio, to the late Gordon Henry and Pearl (Ramsey) Schultz. She married
Dee W. Davis and he is deceased. She then married
Salome Ramirez, Sr. He is also deceased.
Surviving are: a son, Salome Ramirez, Jr of Toledo; five sisters, Deeanna Sours of Tennessee, Dora Jean Bierbaum of Bucyrus, Donna Ryan, Linda Klingshirn and Beverleen Stull, all of Tiffin; two brothers, Raymond Phelps of Reading and Hubert Schultz of Cincinnati; a sister, Thelma Wooten of Indiana; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral service.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
Midas 'Wade' Whiteman
Midas "Wade" Whiteman, 90, of East Howard Street, Willard, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard. He was born Nov. 20, 1911, in Venice Township, and lived in the Reed Township area all of his life.
Mr. Whiteman retired from the Pioneer Rubber Co. in Attica and has been a farmer all his life, working on his own farm. A 1928 graduate of Attica High School, he was a former Reed Township trustee.
He is survived by his nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida (Smith) Whiteman; and three brothers, Glenn, Dee and John Whiteman.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the Attica Venice cemetery in Attica, with the Rev. Malcolm Brook officiating. The Secor Funeral Home in Willard is in charge of arrangements.
Philip H. Cook
Philip H. Cook, 57, of 474 Haines Rd., Sycamore, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
He was born June 26, 1944, to Harold E. and Lenora (Hussey) Cook. Both are deceased. On Jan. 8, 1981, he married
Faye McDaniel, and she survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Toni Tramontana of Marion; a stepdaughter, Christy Dryer of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; a brother, Fred Cook of Findlay; three sisters, Jeananne Heffelfinger and Linda McMillan, both of Upper Sandusky, and Mary Tiell of Sycamore; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Cook was a United States Navy veteran, serving during Vietnam.
Services are to be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, and burial at Pleasant View cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday.
Stephen K. Hunter
Stephen K. Hunter, 53, of 406 West St., Carey, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 9, 1948, to Richard B. and Donna M. (Pahl) Hunter. Both parents survive in Perrysburg. He married
Judy E. Sexton and they divorced. He then married
Lesa J. Sommers and they also divorced.
Surviving include: two sons, Keven W. Hunter of Carey, and Kyle L. Hunter, at home; a daughter, Karen A. Hunter, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Cheryl Loughley of Hudson, Ohio, and Lynett Smith of Perrysburg.
Services at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Burial is to be at Spring Grove cemetery.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
