Hilda M. Campbell

Hilda M. Campbell, 74, of 15114 Twp. Highway 5, Carey, died at 3:38 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.

She was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Salyersville, Ky., to Ruben and Nola (Jackson) Collins, who are deceased. She married James G. Campbell Dec. 17, 1949; and he died Sept. 5, 1997.

Survivors include: two sons, Jeffrey of Tiffin, and Todd of Carey; a daughter, Jane Ann Campbell of Carey; a grandson; and a sister, Beatrice Dill of Carey.

A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with burial in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Doris Jean Etzkorn

Word has been received of the death of Doris Jean Etzkorn, 75, formerly of Tiffin. She died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002.

She was born July 23, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to James Denton and Bethel Ray. She married Harland Etzkorn in Toledo on Feb. 22, 1946; and he survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Larry of Springfield, Ill., Jack of Homer Glen, Ill., and Glen of Cobden, Ill.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Ron Ray and Jerid Ray of Lima; and a sister, Beth Howell of Ada.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, with visitation being one hour prior to services.

Lela Caroline Rowe

Lela Caroline Rowe, 96, of Green Springs, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2002, at Fremont Memorial Hospital.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Green Springs.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home in Green Springs.

Jack Klabian

Jack Klabian, 81, of Tiffin, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.

He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Joe and Helen Elizabeth (Gordon) Klabian.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Wendelin cemetery in Fostoria, where burial will take place.

There will be no visitation.

The Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria is in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Louise Fish

Christine Louise Fish, 57, of Dunkirk, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 29, 1944, in Bucyrus to Eugene O. and Eleanor L. (Mowery) Bower. On Aug. 13, 1966, she married Kenneth D. Fish in Upper Sandusky. He survives in Dunkirk.

Other survivors include: her mother, Eleanor Bower of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Lisa Fish of Kenton; a brother, Stephen Bower of Claridon; and a sister, Jane Richards of Bluffton.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home in Dunkirk. Burial will be in Dunkirk cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Clarence L. 'Jakie' Jacob

Clarence L. "Jakie" Jacob, 85, of VanBuren Street, Fostoria, died at 12:37 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in East Lansing Mich.

He was born April 15, 1917, in Fostoria to Earl and Esther (Nick) Jacob. On July 13, 1940, he married Jean (Conklin) Jacob in Fostoria. She survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son Charles (Margaret) Jacob of New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary (William) Boss of East Lansing, Mich., and Mrs. Beth (Richard) Ferrari of Saratoga, Calif; two sisters, Mrs. Leola (Vincent) Omlar of Findlay and Marguerite Burgess of Brandon, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Robert and Gillian Jacob; Brian and Katie Boss; Joshua, Sara and Alyssia Ferrari.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Esther Jacob, and a sister, Estella Williams.

Mr. Jacob retired in 1986 as the auditor for the city of Fostoria, with 23 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a 1935 graduate of Fostoria High School and attended Ohio State University. Mr. Jacob was a life member of local and national committees of the American Red Cross; Kaubisch Memorial Library Board of Trustees, Board member of Good Shepherd Nursing Home; active with the City Planning Commission; Fostoria Bureau of Concern; Fostoria Republican Club; Fostoria Kiwanis Club; past commander of the Fostoria American Legion; past troop leader of the Boy Scouts of America; past president of the Ohio Municipal Financial League and was an avid coin collector and wood worker.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. The Rev. Daniel Ring will be officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria, with military honors by the Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Memorials may be made to Kaubisch Memorial Library or to the Fostoria Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Lela Caroline Rowe

Lela Caroline Rowe, 96, of Elmwood Assisted Living, since December, formerly of 404 W. Adams St., Green Springs, died at 7:37 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at Fremont Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 8, 1906, in Old Fort to the late Charles and Mina (Sieger) Stiger. On Dec. 27, 1930, she married Cecil P. Rowe in Youngstown. He preceded her in death in 1987.

Survivors include: two sons, Claude T. Rowe of Orange, Calif., and Ronald Rowe of Green Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Beverly (Donald) Gilbert of Green Springs; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rowe was the last living of 13 children; 12 brothers and sisters and one granddaughter preceded her in death.

Prior to teaching at Green Springs School, Mrs. Rowe, taught at Townsend School in Vickery and taught sixth grade for 30 years at Green Springs Elementary School. She was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School, class of 1924, and Bowling Green State University, class of 1927.

Mrs. Rowe was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Green Springs; Stemtown Historical Society; Sandusky County Retired Teachers Association; Farm Women's Club; Woodmen of the World Lodge and a Campfire Girls leader for many years.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Green Springs, with the Rev. Jared Williams officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Engle-Young Funeral Home, Green Springs.

Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church.

Harold R. Dunlap

Harold R. Dunlap, 82, of 311 N. Sycamore Ave., Sycamore, died 9:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Sycamore Medical Associates, Inc. in Sycamore.

He was born Feb. 2, 1920, in Melmore to the late Jesse S. and Inez (Osborn) Dunlap. On June 21, 1948, he married Nola A. Karcher in Bucyrus. She survives in Sycamore.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Nancy (John) Middleton of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Wendy Belcher of the state of Washington, Angie Middleton of Anchorage, Alaska; and a brother, Charles Dunlap of Upper Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathy Dunlap; a brother, William Dunlap and a sister, Ruth Hicks.

Mr. Dunlap retired from American Standard as an inspector in 1980. He assisted as a cemetery sexton at Pleasant View cemetery and Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Sycamore. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre and received the Pacific Theatre Ribbon; the WW II Victory Medal and good conduct medal. Mr. Dunlap enjoyed being outdoors, working in the lawn and around the home, visiting with family and friends, traveling to Alaska during the summers, visiting Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Walton Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the March of Dimes or Wyandot Co. Crippled Children Association, c/o Walton Moore Funeral Home, 201 Saffel Ave., Sycamore, OH 44882-0356.

Matthew Robinson

Matthew Thomas Robinson, 11, of Lincoln Court, Port Clinton, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, in Crawford Co., as a result of an auto accident.

He was born April 3, 1991, in Columbus to Thomas and Kimberly (Jackson) Robinson.

Surviving are: his mother, Kimberly Robinson of Port Clinton; his father, Thomas Robinson of Sabina; grandparents, Terri Held and Raymond W. Jackson, both of Vickory and Gloria Robinson of Sabina; great-grandparents, Tom and Sally Held of Hernando, Fla. and Henry Jackson of Vickory; uncles, aunts and cousins.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Freewill Baptist Church in Clyde. Burial will be in Castalia cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Theodore 'Ted' Smith

Theodore "Ted" Smith, 87, of Kirkwood Court, Findlay, died 3:12 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Findlay.

He was born Feb. 3, 1915, in Fostoria to John and Florence (Duffey) Smith. He married Florence (Alley) Smith in Fostoria. She preceded him in death in 1996.

Surviving are: five sons, Bud Smith of Florida, Don Smith of West Virginia, Joe Smith of Dunkirk, Sam Smith of Big Rapids, Mich., Doug Smith of Findlay; three daughters, Diane Roberts of Van Buren, Pam Pritchard of Carrol, Mo. and Sandra Flowers of Michigan; a sister, Margaret Shaver of Fostoria; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith was a WW II, U.S. Army veteran.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Graham cemetery near Bradner. Burial will be in Graham cemetery, with Military Honors by the Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria.

Bruce T. Vickery

Bruce T. Vickery, 84, of 700 Helen St., Clyde, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at the Arbors at Clyde after a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 13, 1917, in Sandusky County. On May 23, 1953, he married Anthonette Elizabeth (Recupero) Vickery at the Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are: a daughter, Gloria J. Vickery of Willard; two brothers, George"Bud" Adair and Jacque Adair, both of Fremont; two sisters, Elsa Karr and Pearl "Red" Wetzel, both of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Florence Tyree.

Mr. Vickery was employed at Bellevue Manufacturing Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the Army Air Force from June 1941-Sept. 1948, and the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 1948-Oct. 1952. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a life-long member of the Clyde V.F.W. Post 3343 and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue. Mr. Vickery enjoyed fishing and turtle hunting.

Memorial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Foos and Son Funeral Home in Bellevue, with the Rev. Robert Tucceri officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Catholic cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Mildred 'Mid' McGrain

Mildred "Mid" McGrain, 71, of 3150 Huffman Road, Bloomdale, died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, in Toledo Hospital.

She was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Fostoria to the late Edward G. and Emily Jane (Reinhart) Hammer. On April 14, 1951, she married Leo Charles McGrain in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria. He died in May 1987.

Surviving are: three sons, Steve McGrain of Cygnet, Bill McGrain of Valley City and Tom McGrain of Bloomdale; nine grandchildren and a great-grandson; two brothers, Benedict L. Hammer of Chandler, Ariz., and Gilbert K. Hammer of Fostoria.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Holy Family Parish, North Baltimore. Burial will be in Weaver cemetery in Bloom Township.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria and one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

Marjorie D. Platt

Marjorie D. Platt, 75, of 108 Broadway St., Republic, died at 6:30 a.m. `Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at the home of her granddaughter, Tammie Runion, where she had resided for two weeks..

She was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Bloomville, to the late Francis and Ruth (Kerschner) Lace. On Nov. 16, 1947, in Monroeville, she married Robert H. Platt. They were later divorced. He is deceased.

Survivors include: five sons, Richard A. Platt of Clyde, Donald E. Platt of Port Clinton, Jerry L. Platt of Fostoria, Charles L. Platt of Auburn, Ind. and Thomas E. Platt of Green Springs; four daughters, Mrs. Richard A. (Linda) Runion of Tiffin, Mrs. Vance (Bonnie) Carlisle of Monroeville, Mrs. Cindy Rowlett of Howell, Mich. and Mrs. Eric (Brenna) Dendinger of Bellevue; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frances Holmer of Willard.

A son, Rodger Platt; a grandchild, and two brothers, Jake and Lyle, also are deceased.

Mrs. Platt, a homemaker, was a 1946 graduate of Republic High School.

There will be a private graveside service and no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rita M. Smith

Rita M. Smith, 86, of 190 St. Francis Ave., died at 1:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. She was born Feb. 13, 1916 in Liberty Twp., Seneca County, to Michael H. and Nancy (Koerper) Sendelbach. On May 13, 1939 she married Clarence L. Smith in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty Twp., and he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Elmo Smith of Great Falls, MT., and Norman Smith of Sidney, Ohio; two daughters, nancy Heebsh of Findlay and Mona Cleary of Pompana Beach, FL.; four brothers, Harold, Richard, Roland and Leo Sendelbach, all of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Services at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2002 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial at St. Mary cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Hilda M. Campbell

Hilda Campbell, of Carey will have Funeral services at 11 a.m. Saterurday, August 24, 2002 at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be at Springgrove cemetery.

Visitation will beheld one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m.

Randall N. Meyers

Randall N. Meyers, 70, of Attica died Fridaymorning, Aug. 23, 2002, at his home. He was born June 30, 1932, in New Washington to the late Elmer N. and Carrie (Rothschild) Meyers.

Mr. Meyers was married Aug. 13, 1955, in Attica to Mary Milligan who survives. He is survived by two sons: Scott N. Meyers of Galloway, Ohio, and Brett T. Meyers of Attica; two granddaughters, Marcy D. Meyers of Millersburg, Ohio, and Courtney R. Meyers of Attica; a brother, John J. Meyers of New Washington; and a sister, Dana C. Doty of New Carlisle, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Miriam A. Wise and Ruth I. Fike.

Randy enjoyed gardening, planting trees, hauling stone and landscaping. He will be remembered for his extraordinary sense of humor, admiration, love of his granddaughters and his appreciation for life.

Mr. Meyers was a corporal in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean Conflict. In 1999 he retired from North Central Electric Cooperative, Inc. after 45 years of dedicated service. During his career he served as lineman, crew leader, operations foreman, line superintendent and operations supervisor. He was also a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 405, New Washington. He was a former member of the Attica Lions Club and served on the Attica Village Council.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, with the Rev. Janine Dress of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Twp. cemetery, Attica.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 326 S. Main St., Attica, or the AVR Fire Department, P.O. Box 377, Attica, OH 44807.
