Melvin L. Thompson

Melvin L. Thompson, 70, of 759 E. Perry St., Lot 22, Paulding, formerly of Fostoria, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002. He was born march 8, 1932 to Clifford J. and Fay (Coleman) Thompson. He married Janice Thompson, she died Sept. 2, 1986.

Surviving include: step-children; a brother; and eight sisters.

There will be no services held at this time. Burial will take place at Fort Meigs cemetery at a later date.

There are no visitation hours.

The Engle-Young Funeral home is handling the arrangements.

Rita K. Lincoln-Simms

Rita K. Lincoln-Simms, 50, of Findlay, formerly of Fostoria, died at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at her home. She was born Dec. 2, 1951 in Fostoria to John N. and Edith Fay (Creech) Pullom, both deceased. She married Terry Lincoln, they were divorced. She married Theodore Anthony Simms III on June 5, 2002, he survives in Findlay.

Other survivors include: a son, Terrence A. Lincoln of Holland; a daughter, Mrs. Donielle R. Lincoln of Mansfield; two step-sons, Terry A. Lincoln, Jr., and El-On Simms; three step-daughters, Jada Price, Yolanda Simms and Dominique Simms; three brothers, William Pullom of Fostoria, John N. Pullom of Cairo, Egypt, and Michael F. Pullom of Findlay; a foster brother, Roy Barfield of Fostoria; three sisters, Mrs. Juliana Lawson, Mrs. Brenda Anderson, both of Toledo, and Mrs. Rev. Marva Goodwin of Toledo; and a mother-in-law, Hester Catrulio; and five grandchildren.

Services 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at First Baptist Church Fostoria. Burial Fountain cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Earl R. Benschoter

Earl R. "Schoter" Benschoter, 76, of Wayne, Ohio, died Thursday morning, Sept. 19, 2002 in his home. He was born May 25, 1926 in Cygnet to Victor D. and Leona F. (Kieffer) Benschoter, both deceased. On Oct. 11, 1946 in Galatea, Ohio, he married Pauline N. Standering, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Linda S.) Barbour of Bowling Green, and Mrs. Byron (Brenda L.) McNutt of Eagle River, Wisc.; a brother, Vernon Benschoter of Wayne; two sisters, Lenora Dieter of Waterville, and Mary Morlock of Custar, Ohio; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Benschoter was retired after 30+ years from Flechner's Meats in Fostoria, where he was a truck driver, salesman and meat cutter. He also was currently working for Smith Family Frosted Foods in Tiffin, as a delivery man. A Class of 1944 graduate of Portage Township High School. A U.S. Army Veteran serving in WW II. Affiliated with Mt. Zion United Brethren Church in Wayne. And member Albert Bowe American Legion Post #338, Bradner, Ohio

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at the Barndt Funeral Home, 121 West South St., Wayne, Ohio, with The Rev. Lee Hiney officiating. Burial at Graham cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 4-8 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Brethren Church and/or Wood County Humane Society.

Dean R. Miller

Dean R. Miller, 77, of 102 Don El. Drive, Green Springs, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at his residence.

He was born March 28, 1925, in Fremont, to the late Joseph and Theresa (Kraak) Miller. On June 13, 1949, in New Port, Ky., he married Judith Manges, who is deceased.

Surviving are two sons, Cecil Miller of Dallas, Texas and Steven Miller of Loveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy Donnelly of Elyria. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Miller; and a sister, Naomi Wells.

Mr. Miller, a U.S. Army veteran, serving during peace time, was employed as an auto mechanic for Fisher's in Fremont. Formerly of Fremont, he had lived 30 years in Green Springs.

There will be no service or visitation at this time. The Engle-Young Funeral Home, Green Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sandra K. Parker

Sandra K. Parker, 41, of North Main Street, Fostoria, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in her home. She was born August 8, 1961 to Conrad and Georgia (King) Parker, both parents survive in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two brothers, Rickey and Jimmy Parker, both of Fostoria.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at Knollcrest Gardens cemetery near Arcadia.

Visitation hours are from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Rosemarie Racheter

Rosemarie Geralyn Racheter, 40, of 1801 Twp. Hwy. 106, Carey, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2002 in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center. She was born Oct. 9, 1961 to Donald and Patricia (Emerine) Droll of Upper Sandusky, both parents survive. On Oct. 14, 1983 she married Thomas E. Racheter, Jr. in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three brothers, Terry Droll of Chatum, Ill., Jerry Droll of LaRue, OH., and Mark Droll of Upper Sandusky; three sisters, Mrs. Sue Lamberjack of Carey, Mrs. Diane Ward of Findlay, and Mrs. Joan Kincade of Upper Sandusky; 28 nieces and nephews; and four god-children.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey. Burial at St. Mary's cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A Christian Wake Service to be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

James F. Long

James F. Long, 81, of 134 Gibson Court, Tiffin, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at his home.

He was born on July 14, 1921, to the late Lawrence and Dulcie (Ferguson) Long of Lima. On June 14, 1942, in Lima, he married Rosemary Gisler, who died Nov. 12, 1992.

He is survived by a son, James R. Long and a daughter, Janice D. Howard, both of Tiffin; a son, Steven A. Long of St. Paul, Minn.; six grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Long of Lima; and a sister, Anna Courtney of Cridersville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Long of Lima.

Mr. Long served in an armored division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He attended Ohio State University and the University of Michigan, receiving a bachelor of science degree from Ohio Northern University in 1949 and taking the Ohio Professional Engineer exam later the same year. He retired in 1984 from American Electric Power Company, following 36 years of employment in Lima, Findlay and Tiffin as an electrical engineer. During his tenure with AEP, he supervised the rebuilding of the Bluffton and Findlay distribution systems, then returned to Lima as division engineer, transferring to Tiffin in 1964.

Since his retirement in 1984, Mr. Long was a frequent contributor to the Opinion Page of the Advertiser-Tribune as well as to other Ohio papers. He was a regular donor at Red Cross blood drives, contributing a total of 178 pints. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, yard work, investment, table tennis, history, economics, politics, tutoring, his dog, children, grandchildren and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Florence L. Williams

Florence L. Williams, 83, of 500 Midland Ave., Findlay, formerly of Alvada and having lived with her daughter in New Paris for the past one and one-half years, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Reid Hospital, Richmond, Ind.

She was born Dec. 29, 1918, in Tiffin, to Benjamin and Clara (King) Berrier. On April 12, 1937, she married Clarence F. Williams. He died March 1, 2002.

Surviving are: two sons, John Williams of Upper Sandusky and Harold Williams of North Baltimore; a sister, Linda M. Stapley of New Paris; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Geraldine Scheldon, Estella Kelbley, Mary Jane Lang, all of Tiffin, and Mrs. Lucille ( Clarence) Studer of Tiro.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Berrier and Benjamin Berrier Jr.; two sisters, Margarette Harshman and Annabelle Brickner; a half-sister, Helen Lutz; and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Williams, first worked at the Bascom Gem Co. in Bascom. Next she worked for R.C.A. (Harris), retiring in 1980, after working there for 25 years.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Allen Kessling officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard L. Wentz

Richard L. Wentz, 68, of McCutchenville, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in the Mercy Hospital of Tiffin Emergency Room.

He was born June 17, 1934, in Wyandot County to the late Charles and Clara (Bash) Wentz. On June 2, 1956, he married Matilda Reinhart at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown. She survives in McCutchenville.

Also surviving are: two daughters, Debra A. Wentz of Columbus and Mrs. Barbara R. (Wayne) Bush of Massillon; a brother, Rollin D. and (Debra) Wentz of Carey; two sisters, Donna L. (William) Bland of Wharton, and Jody L. (Jim) Ogg of Salisbury, N.C.; and a grandson, Sean Allen Bush.

Mr. Wentz was a 1953 graduate of McCutchenville High School. He was a farmer; inspector at General Electric and an independent carpenter.

He was also a volunteer fireman in McCutchenville for more than 40 years and an usher at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown, where he was a member.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, with the Rev. Conrad Sutter officiating.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Monday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. A Christian Wake will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the McCutchenville Fire Department or St. Nicholas Catholic Church.

Mabel A. Kistler

Mabel A. Kistler, 73, of 5251 N. SR 53, Tiffin, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Countryside Continuing Care Center in Fremont.

She was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Scipio Township, Seneca County, to Verbin and Beda (Myers) Kistler.

Survivors include: a sister, Donna Polyak; a nephew and niece, Timothy and Catherine Polyak; two great-nieces, Paige and Kelsey Polyak; and a great-nephew, Logan Polyak, all of of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Lola.

Mabel was a bookkeeper at the Republic Elevator for 40 years. She also was a 1947 graduate of Republic-Scipio High School.

Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with Pastor Barry Bordenkircher of the Fort Seneca United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in St. Jacobs cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. today and 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fort Seneca United Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Gayle I. Deckard

Gayle I. Deckard, 83, of Stinchcomb Drive, Fostoria, died 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Iler to Raleigh and Myrtle (Good) Lawyer. Jan. 5, 1941, she married Robert G. Deckard in Fostoria. He died Oct. 27, 1969.

Surviving are: a son, Robert C. Deckard; a daughter, Lynn Stearns, both of Fostoria; four grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Knollcrest Gardens cemetery, near Arcadia.

There will be no visitation.

Kathleen 'Katie' Roth

Kathleen "Katie" Roth, 72, of 12151 W. Twp. Rd. 112, Fostoria, died 11:58 a.m. Monday, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born June 3, 1930, in Fostoria, to Charles M. and Esther A. (Reinhart) Williams Sr., both are deceased. She married Bernard "Barney" Roth on April 26, 1949, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. He survives in Fostoria.

Other Survivors include: three sons, James "Mike" Roth of Fostoria, David C. Roth of Richmond, Va., Steven A. Roth of Tiffin; a daughter, Kathleen Gwiner of Fostoria; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles F. Williams of Fostoria; a twin sister, Mrs. Charleen (Donald) Roth of Fostoria.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Richard Steigerwalt.

Mrs. Roth retired, after 29 years of service, from Allied-Signal in Fostoria, currently Honeywell.

She was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, and a 1948 graduate of St. Wendelin High School. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in New Riegel Post 354 and Fostoria Eagles Auxiliary Aerie 430.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake Service will take place at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Wendelin Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Doris Marie Riebe

Doris Marie Riebe, 81, of Tiffin, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at The Toledo Hospital.

She was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Mermill to Emmett and Viva (Cotterman) Wilcox.

Surviving are: two sons, Dave Wilcox, Michael Riebe; a daughter Theresa Weber; a stepson, Billy Riebe and a stepdaughter, Virginia Ashley; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother Ernest Wilcox.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, at the H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, Trilby Chapel (Alexis at Tremainsville). Burial will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Bernard F. Link

Bernard F. Link, 76, 22 Glenwood Drive, Tiffin, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, in the Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.

He was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Attica, to the late Lester and Margaret (Rospert) Link. On July 9, 1955, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Dorothy Krupp, who survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Ronald (Jane) Link, Randy (Lis) Link, James (Beth) Link and Gregory (Michelle) Link, all of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Chris, Nick, Doug, Brian, Bradley and Annie Link; a brother, James C. Link of Bellevue; and two sisters, Mrs. Ann (Bernard) Pflieger of New Washington and Sister Mary Agnes, SND of Norwalk. Two brothers, Dennis and Paul Link, are deceased.

A graduate of Norwalk High School, Mr. Link was a barber in Attica for over 40 years. He served in the United States Army, Infantry Regiment 99th Division from March 1944-March 1946, where he supervised German prisoners of war in Camp Phillip Morris, France. He was wounded in Belgium on Dec. 22, 1945, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post 169, Tiffin Eagles Aerie 402, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Attica 3062 and Disabled American Veterans, Tiffin.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. James Say as celebrant. The rosary will be recited 15 minutes prior to the funeral Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery, with the United Veterans Council performing military rites at the graveside.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Sept. 24, at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvert Foundation and the charity of the donor's choice in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
