Howard G. Snyder

Howard G. Snyder, 91, of 6910 SR 100, Melmore, died 9:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1910, in Eden Township., Seneca Co., to George A. and Mabel E. (Wingart) Snyder. He married Harriet L. (Downs) Snyder on March 2, 1935. She died June 1, 1996.

Surviving are: two sons, Mr. Richard H. Snyder of Palm City, Fla. and Mr. Philip G. Snyder of Boynton, Fla.; two daughters, L. Anne Lane of Centennial, Colo. and Mrs. Jean (Dennis) Pasko of rural Tiffin; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Mr. Russell W. Snyder of Melmore; a stepsister, Mrs. Dale Helvoight of Dover.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a sister, Ruth Keller; a stepfather, Duff R. Mesnard; a stepbrother and two stepsisters.

Mr. Snyder was owner and still working as an CPA for H.G. Snyder & Associates. He was a 1929 graduate of Melmore High School, 1933 graduate of Tiffin University, where he was a founding member of Sigma Omega Sigma Fraternity. He also coached women's' Basketball at Tiffin University. For many years he was superintendent and teacher for Sunday School. While attending Ohio State he spent three months in Pakistan as part of an Ohio State team to aid in improving the Pakistan grain storage operation. He loved to fish as an hobby.

He was a member of the following: Melmore United Methodist Church; 65 year member of I.O.O.F. Lodge 174, Melmore; life member of Eden Lodge 0310; F &A.M., Bloomville; Member of the National Rifle Assoc.; United Commercial Travelers Assoc.; past President and member of National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives; American Institute for Certified Public Accountants; was honorary chairman of Business Advisory Council of Washington, D.C., and was instrumental with starting the accounting program for the Ohio Farm Bureau Cooperative Assoc.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Melmore United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Howard Huston officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery in Seneca County.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the church. An I.O.O.F. and Masonic Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care or Melmore United Methodist Church.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore.

Jean A. Stover

Jean A. Stover, 72, formerly of 3733 E. TR 122, Tiffin, died at 6:24 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Tiffin, to the late Dale and Dorothy (Mitten) Cole. On Dec. 28, 1946, in Tiffin, she married George R. Stover. He died April 7, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Mark (Shelly) Stover of Republic and Matthew Stover of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Diane (Michael) Hampshire of Tiffin and Susan Windsor of Fostoria; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Ned) Murphy of Burgoon and Linda (Larry) Keckler of Bascom; and a stepsister, Carolyn (William) Parcher of Perrysburg.

Mrs. Stover had retired as a kitchen worker from the Pioneer Mill Restaurant. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in St. Mary Catholic cemetery, with the Rev. Stephen Schroeder officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113.

David A. 'Coop' Cooper

David A. "Coop" Cooper, 61, of Second Street Fremont, died Sunday night, Nov. 3, 2002, at Country side Continuing Care Center.

He was born Aug. 6, 1941, in Tiffin, to William Cooper and Charlotte (Wagner) Reinhart. He married Bobbie (Walling) Cooper in March of 1982 in Fremont. She survives in Fremont.

Also surviving are: children, Gregory A. Cooper of Van Buren, Sandra L. Gonzales and Stephen C. Cooper, both of New Riegel, Lisa A. McGhee and Christopher A. Cooper, both of Tiffin; stepchildren, June Hoffman, Donna Long and Carolyn Ransom, all of Fremont and John Knieriem of Helena; brothers, John W. Cooper and Robert L. Cooper, both of Tiffin; sisters, Susan Brown of Oregon and Mary E. Brunswick of Tiffin; step brothers, John and Louis Reinhart of Fostoria; a step sister, Mary Louise Weinandy of Alvada; 10 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.

Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beth Ann Cooper; step brother, Joseph Reinhart and his parents.

Mr. Cooper worked as a machine operator for Stroh's Can Plant, Crescent Manufacturing, and lastly, at Alkon Corp., until the onset of his illness. He was an avid fisherman and loved woodworking. He served in the Navy during peacetime.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary in Fremont. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, with military rites performed by the Fremont American Legion and VFW.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kenneth Meyer Sr.

Kenneth "Blackeye" Meyer Sr., 78, of Beallsville, Ohio, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, in the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Oct. 7, 1924, near Clarington, Ohio, son of the late John and Alice (Roth) Meyer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Sheba) Meyer.

Surviving are two sons and three daughters, including former Tiffin resident Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Shank of New Concord; a brother and a sister; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today in the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville. A funeral liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg. Burial will follow in Beallsville cemetery.

William C. Gerwin

William C. Gerwin, passed away at age 73, on Oct. 27, 2002. He was born in Gibsonburg and lived most of his life in Bettsville.

He was an inventory controller for Basic Refractories, a former mayor of Bettsville, past president of Sandusky County Planning, a member of Masonic league and owned the Village Bridal Shop.

He was predeceased by his wife, Reta. Survivors include a son, Alan of Fremont; a daughter, Brenda Hossler of Paris, Ky.; a brother, John of Bettsville; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and his companion Pauline Lindstrom of DeLand, Fla

A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Salem United Methodist Church in Bettsville.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, Fl. 32129.

Ethel Lenore Beagle

Ethel Lenore Beagle, 93, formerly of rural Carey, died 2:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky.

She was born Oct. 28, 1909, in Bement, Ill. to W. I. and Theodoshia C. (Patterson) Moore. She married Leo F. Beagle on March 30, 1931, in Detroit, Mich. He died on Jan. 22, 1981.

Surviving are: two sons, Leo Beagle of Payne and Marvin Beagle of Sunrise, Fla.; three sisters, Eva Delle Traxler of Carey, Ann Dotson of Bucyrus and Kathryn Pieracini of Liberty Center; 22 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and three great, great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Moore of Allen Park, Mich.; three half-brothers, Chester and Howard Moore and Raymond Tuttle and a half-sister, Edith Dye.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at Grace United Methodist Church in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Thursday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. An Eastern Star service will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Woodrow Wilson Fite

Woodrow Wilson Fite, 89, of Duane Street Clyde, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Countryside Continuing Care Center in Clyde.

He was born March 14, 1913, in Stout, to William Jasper and Sarah Ellen (Evans) Fite. He married Clarabelle (Wightman) Fite in Greenup, Ky., on May 1, 1948. She survives.

Also surviving are: a son, John Robertson Fite of Colorado; two daughters, Sue Marks of Clyde and Dorothy Miller of Green Springs; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister Opal Wunderland of Wilmington.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Harvest Baptist Temple, Clyde. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Veteran's section.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Noble Howard Kime

Noble Howard Kime, 82, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in Boulder, Colo., where he resided.

He was born March 3, 1920, in Bascom, to the late Howard Newton and Lola (Shaull) Kime. He married Mary Winger Dec. 29, 1945, in Skokie, Ill. She survives in Boulder.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Katherine Kime of Kearney, Neb.; and two sons, Noble Kime of Monterrey, Calif.and Peter Kime of Galena, Ill. He also was preceded in death by a sister that had lived in Findlay, Willetta Hite.

The Rev. Kime attended Tiffin Columbian High School, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Heidelberg College; received his master of theology from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colo. and did his doctoral studies at Divinity School at the University of Chicago.

He was employed 1946-47 as associate minister at Christ Methodist Church, Denver; 1947-51 as pastor of First Methodist Church, Shelton, Conn.; 1954-58 as pastor at St. John's Methodist Church in Valley Stream, Long Island, N.Y.; 1958-68 as pastor at Christ United Methodist Church, Denver; 1968-76 as pastor at Mountain View United Methodist in Boulder, Colo; 1976-81 as district superintendent of United Methodist Church, Denver; and 1981-88 as pastor of Washington Park United Methodist Church, Denver.

He was a member of Mt. View United Methodist Church, His membership on councils of churches include: Boulder Council of Churches; board of directors, committee on Religious Liberties of the National Council of Churches, Rotary Club of Boulder for four years and the Masonic Order.

Rev. Kime's special interests and awards include: preaching, Christian worship and counseling, photography, golf, hiking, camping, fishing, movies, theater and concerts.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today, Nov. 6, at Crist Mortuary, Boulder.

The service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Mt. View United Methodist Church, Boulder, with the Rev. Walter Stickland officiating. Private family interment services will be at a later date.

Leona E. White

Leona E. White, 92, of Duane St., Clyde, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Erie Co. Care Facility in Sandusky.

She was born Jan. 1, 1910, in Fireside, in Seneca Co., to Cleveland M. and Bessie (Butz) Lenhart. She married John C. White on Oct. 7, 1950. He died July 21, 1990.

Surviving are: a son, Ronald E. Wriker of Castalia; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren; a brother, Maurice Lenhart of Bellevue; a sister, Lois Michaels of Clyde.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the funeral home.

Margaret M. 'Peg' Weddell

Margaret M. "Peg" Weddell, 95, formerly of 25 Leitner Avenue, Tiffin, died 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

She was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Niles, to Ruben and Clara (William) Nigh. She married R. B. Weddell, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Tiffin on June 26, 1929. He died Dec. 18, 1995.

Surviving are: a son, Eugene Weddell of White Lake, Mich.; a daughter, Carolyn Huffman of Tiffin; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tiffin. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Alice T. (Schleter) Shafer

Alice T. (Schleter) Shafer, 74, went to be with her heavenly Father after six courageous years of battling lung cancer. She died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at home with her family at her side.

She is survived by her husband, William Shafer of Newaygo, Mich.; daughter, Anita and Blaine Speese of Newaygo, three sons, William Shafer, also of Newaygo, David and Mary Shafer of White Cloud, Mich., and John Shafer and Becky Taylor of Scottville, Mich.; daughter, Angela & Jim Buttleman of White Cloud, Mich.; twin daughters, Laura and Curt Veersma of Big Rapids, Mich. and Linda and Kevin Hook of Council Bluff, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Brenda Shafer of Grant, Mich.; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Arthur and Margaret Schleter of Tiffin. She was preceded in death by a son, Philip Shafer in 1988; a brother, Joseph Schleter; and two sisters, Angela Renninger and Ella Hoover.

The funeral liturgy will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, from the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Newaygo with Mrs. Shafer's nephew, Father Ed Schleter, officiating. Interment will be in St. Bartholomew cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at McKinley Chapel, Newaygo, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society-Newaygo County Chapter and St. Bartholomew's Catholic Church.

The McKinley Funeral Home, Newaygo is in charge of arrangements.

Walter W. Kreager

Walter W. Kreager, 81 of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Genoa, died 10:57 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Ellington Hospice in Palmetto, Fla.

He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Marion, to Edward and Stella (Lowe) Kreager. He married Eva M. Rathburn in Monroe, Mich. on June 20, 1968. She survives in Bradenton, Fla.

Also surviving are: three sons, Steve Kreager of Walbridge, Donald Kreager and Ronald Kreager, both of Genoa; a step-son, Anthony DeRose of Lima; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Kreager of Martin; four sisters, Agnes York of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., Ellen Schulte of Genoa, Lucille Gackstetter of Martin and Barbara Gadda of Sunbury.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8 at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at the funeral home.

Margaret M. Weddell

Margaret M. "Peg" Weddell, 95, formerly of 25 Leitner Ave., Tiffin, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

She was born Sept. 15, 1907, in Niles, Ohio, to the late Ruben and Clara (Willman) Nigh. On June 26, 1929, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married R.B. Weddell. He died Dec. 18, 1995.

Surviving are a son, Eugene (Jeanette) Weddell of White Lake, Mich.; a daughter, Carolyn Huffman of Tiffin; seven grandchildren, Christie Hughes, Jane Hiser, Tom, Dane and Steven Huffman, Rob Weddell and Nancy Broyles; and 11 great-grandchildren: Jessica and Michael Peiffer, Jamie Forrest, Erin and Andy Hiser, Brandon Deck, Megan, Rochelle and Adam Huffman, Quentin Weddell and Katie Lynn Broyles.

A brother, Paul Nigh and a sister, Mildred Von Whil are also deceased.

Mrs. Weddell, a retired teacher, taught at a one-room school on TR 111. She received her education at a two-year college at Bowling Green Normal School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She was a former Navy Mother and a member of Y-Wives of Tiffin and volunteered at the Seneca County Opportunity Center

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, with the Rev. Stephen Schroeder as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church Flower Fund in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Anna Lucille Smith

Anna Lucille Smith, 81, of 12808 E. CR 6, Attica, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 5, 2002, at Willard Health Care Center in Willard.

She was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Rocky River, to Harvey and Leanora (Link) Ayres. She married Robert L. Smith, in Kentucky, on May 17, 1940. He died in 1999.

Surviving are: a son, James L. Smith of Attica; twin sister, Mrs. Dorothy (Roger) Leuthold of Bucyrus; a half-sister, Mrs. Evelyn Stang of Medina.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, where she was the church pianist for many years. She was a member of the Attica Alumni Association.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday morning, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Attica United Methodist Church in Attica, with the Rev. Thom Kalb officiating. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery in Attica.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 in Bloomville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Seneca East Public Library.
