Opal A. Starr

Opal A. Starr, 83, formerly of Carey, who resided at Grand Court of Findlay for the past 10 years, died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at her residence.

She was born March 16, 1919, in Carey, to John "Mack" and Clara (Stahl) Starr.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Raymond Clinton Hagerman

Raymond Clinton Hagerman, 65, of 531 S. Patterson St., Carey, died at noon Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 6, 1937 in Carey to the late Millard R. and Mary M. (Puchta) Hagerman.

Surviving are: two brothers, James P. Hagerman of Findlay and Millard R. Hagerman Jr. of Carey; and a sister, Donna L. Sherman of Fostoria.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Carolyn Susan George

Carolyn Susan George, died Nov. 10, 2002, in Atlanta, Ga.

Carolyn Susan George was born Feb. 19, 1921, to George and Hulda Lutz Brause. A brother, Carl, preceded her into the family. Her sisters Mary and Dorothy and brother Dorsey followed.

She married Floyd George on April 27, 1940. Their two sons, David and Dan, completed the family circle. The sons were educated in the laboratory schools at Bowling Green State University, while Carolyn was receiving her university education. She earned the bachelor of science degree magna cum laude in two years and eight months. The family moved to Oberlin, Ohio, where she received a master's degree from the theological seminary. She completed her education with a Ph.D from the University of Toledo in the field of educational psychology.

While the family was growing up they spent many adventuresome and challenging vacations exploring the resources of our National Parks. They involved the boys in cross-cultural experiences through Scouting, Explorers, American Youth Hostelling and maintaining a working hostel. Carolyn's son David has two daughters, Ivana and Lauren. Her son Dan has one son, Casey.

Carolyn is survived by her sons, David of Atlanta, Ga. and Dan of Santa Barbara, Calif. and their families, her older brother, Carl Brause of Bloomville; her younger sisters, Dorothy Bogart of Tiffin and Mary Schock of Rocky River, Ohio, their families and the family of her deceased younger brother, Dorsey Brause.

The family extends its grateful appreciation to the Emory Winship Cancer Clinic and its dedication and caring staff. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Marian Yarris

Elizabeth Marion "Liz" Yarris, 88, of Fostoria, died 1:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

She was born May 28, 1914, in Akron, to Charles J. and Lucy E. (Williams) Breiner. She married Dr. William F. Yarris in Akron on Aug. 21, 1937. He died April 6, 1996.

Surviving are: three sons, Charles E. Yarris of Willowick, Donald S. Yarris of Fostoria and James R. Yarris of New Riegel; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Yarris of Bowling Green; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. prior to the services on Thursday at the funeral home.

Maxine K. Boes

Maxine K. Boes, 79, 60 N. SR 101, Lot 5, Tiffin, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born March 24, 1923, in Deshler, to the late Frank and Maudie (Erford) Smith. On Nov. 6, 1948, in Custer, she married Richard A. Boes. He preceded her in death Nov. 18, 1997.

Surviving are a son, Charles L. Boes of Forsyth, Ill., a brother, James Smith of Findlay; two sisters, Mrs. Bernard (Margie) Wilhelm of Findlay and Mrs. James (Marilyn Jean) Drummer of Dover, Pa.; a granddaughter, Ashley K. Boes; a great-grandson, Casey Boes and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Boes;

Two brothers, Erford and Franklin Smith are deceased.

A high school graduate, Mrs. Boes worked at Marvin's Delicatessen for 26 1/2 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and the Eagles Auxiliary.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James K. Say as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Entombment will be in Seneca Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Cerebral Palsy or a charity of the donor's choice.

Sarah Murphy

Sarah Murphy, 88, of 427 College St., Findlay, died at 7:49 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

She was born May 23, 1914, in Wayne, Pa., to William and Ethel Johnson. She married Charles Murphy, and he survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Dick (Ann) Wittman of Tiffin and Mrs. Norman (Marion) Lavery of Montana; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Murphy, a homemaker and floral designer, was a former member of Paoli, Pa. Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Dec. 14 in the First Presbyterian Church of Tiffin, for friends and family.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, Habitat for Humanity or Public Broadcasting Station.

Arrangements are by the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home.

Ada L. Brown

Ada L. Brown, 95, of Elmwood of Fremont, died 5:35 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Elmwood.

She was born Oct. 25, 1907, in Henry County, Ind., to Wilbert and Prestine Mae (Weber) Jones. She married Howard A. Brown in Spring Port, Ind. in 1926. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Jayne Brutcher of Fremont; four grandchildren, Karen Wasserman, Rita Terry, both of Fremont, Marcia Autullo of Tiffin and Christina Whitman of Fremont; a brother, Donald Jones of Mt. Pleasant, Ind.; six great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Noble Jones and a sister, Mrs. Doris Trimble.

Mrs. Brown was a retired bookkeeper for the Gordon Lumber Co. in Green Springs. She was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School in Indiana and she attended Ball State University. She was a member of the Green Springs United Methodist Church.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Springs cemetery. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Joe Sanchez

Joe Sanchez, 39, of SR 163, Elmore, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Bay Park Hospital in Oregon.

He was born on March 18, 1963, in Fremont, to Ramiro and Marcia D. (Zuniga) Sanchez. He married Victoria (Scherger) Sanchez at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiffin on April 19, 1997. She survives in Elmore.

Joe graduated from Fremont Ross High School in 1981 and attended Vanguard in 2001 and 2002. He served in the U.S. Army and was an operator technician for BP Refinery in Oregon for the past four years.

He is survived by sons; Christopher Joe Sanchez and Ramiro Joe Sanchez, both of Fremont. Also surviving are sisters; Ignacia M. Sanchez, Mari H. Rosas, Sandra M. Sanchez, Lorie Pacheco and Sherel Rojas, all of Fremont. Brothers; Ramiro "Ronnie", George, Bobby, Danny and Tony Sanchez, all of Fremont.

Joe was preceded in death by his father in 1966 and his grandparents.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont; the Eagles in Clyde; K of C in Tiffin; the Lions in Elmore. He was a volunteer EMT for Green Springs and recently was to start working as an EMT in Elmore.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary in Fremont from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral will be Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic cemetery in Fremont.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Meritt E. 'Frex' Beebe

Meritt E. "Frex" Beebe, 96, of Sandusky CR 247, Vickery, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Firelands Community Hospital in Sandusky.

He was born Nov. 12, 1905, in Riley Twp. in Sandusky County to George J. and Clara (Pearson) Beebe. He married Glenna Mae (Duffett) Beebe on Oct. 21, 1939. She survives.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Vickery. Burial will be in Parkhurst cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Janet Louise Zucker

Janet Louise Zucker, 56, of 3330 Mabee Road, died Sunday evening, Nov. 10, 2002, at her home.

She was born May 12, 1946, in Findlay, to Firmin Jack and Bernice Virginia (Norris) Grindell. She married Robert Zucker at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bucyrus on Sept. 3, 1965.

Surviving are: her husband; three sons, David Zucker, Brian Zucker and Shawn Zucker, all of Mansfield; two daughters, Heidi and Amanda Zucker of Ontario; two grandchildren and a brother, Jack Grindell of Simpsonville, S.C.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the First English Lutheran Church in Mansfield. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 Wednesday at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors.

Mae L. Weininger

Mae L. Weininger, 104, formerly of CR 2, McCutchenville, died 6:10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky.

She was born May 10, 1898, in Seneca County to Joseph W. and Matilda (Staib) Parks. She married Mr. Welsh W. Weininger on Nov. 27, 1920. He died Jan. 5, 1958.

Surviving are: a son, Mr. Warren Weininger of rural McCutchenville; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Barth of rural Sycamore; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great, great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and three step great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Mr. Joe Weininger in 1986; a daughter, Mrs. Matilda Matsick in 1989; a great-grandchild; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Manges, Mrs. Evva King, Mrs. Fern Kingseed, and Mrs. Inez Baugher; two brothers, Mr. Lewis Parks and Mr. Charles Parks.

Mrs. Weininger was a homemaker and member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in McCuthenville. She was the oldest living member: Columbian High School Class of 1915; taught school in Bascom and South Bend Country School, rural McCutchenville. She taught the Kum-Join-Us Sunday School class for many years. Mrs. Weininger was on the church consistory and she was the Regional Guild treasurer of U.C.C. Conference; 85 year member of William Myers Chapter 196 OES and past Matron; former member of the Farm Bureau Council Faithful Twenty-four; member of Mohawk Sixty Plus Club. She sang in the Seneca County Homemakers Chorus. She also volunteered at Fairhaven Home.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Trinity U.C.C. Church, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Seneca County.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Betty J. (Reid) Winther

Betty J. (Reid) Winther, 78, formerly of Bettsville, died 12:52 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont, where she came to reside after living in Florida for ten years.

She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Muncie, Ind., to Thomas J. and Ruth Ellen (Swinehart) Stevens. She first married Carlos Robert Reid. After his death, she married Trygve Winther on Aug. 25, 1981, at Light House Point, Fla. Mr. Winther died on April 6, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Donald Reid of Toledo and Ronald Joseph Reid of Swanton; two daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Luella (Marmont "Buzz") Green of rural Tiffin and Jeri Ruth Reid of Florida; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great, great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Wayne Stevens of Fostoria; three sisters, Florence Whipple of North Baltimore, Marian Baird of Findlay and Marie LaLone of Syracuse, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son-in-law, Marmont "Buzz" Green; a grandchild; two brothers, Albert Stevens and Thomas Lee Stevens; a sister Evelyn Canter.

Mrs. Winther attended St. Wendelin High School in Fostoria. She formerly owned the Nature Trails Golf Course and the Pie House, both in Bettsville.

Memorial Service will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom at a later date.

The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gordon R. Keegan

Gordon R. "Ronnie" Keegan, 54, of SR 101, Clyde, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, as a result of an auto accident in Sandusky County.

He was born Dec. 14, 1947, in Fremont, to Gordon C. and Helen Louise (Majoy) Keegan. He married Deanna Christine (Ross) Keegan on Dec. 18, 1965. She survives in Clyde.

Also surviving are: mother, Helen Keegan of Clyde; four sons, Ronald Brian Keegan, David Matthew Keegan, Gary Lee Keegan, all of Clyde and Daniel Jeffrey Keegan of Castalia; a daughter, Jennifer Nickole Keegan of Clyde; five grandchildren; four brothers, Robert Keegan, Terry Keegan, Michael Keegan and Joseph Keegan; and two sisters, Marlene Bilhardt and Cheri Newton.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clyde. Burial will be in the family plot.

Visitation will be Thursday from noon until 4 p.m. and then 6-9 p.m. at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Anthony M. Caito

Anthony M. Caito, 82, former Tiffin area resident, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in the Kemper House, Olmsted Falls.

He was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Garland; two sons, Harry J. of Westlake and Frederick C. of Park Ridge, Ill. and four grandchildren.

Mr. Caito joined the U.S. Army Air Corps serving 1943-45 as a pilot of a B-17, flying over 30 combat missions with the 8th Air Force in England.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bernadette Church, 2256 Clague Road, Westlake.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the Busch-Corrigan-Berry Family Chapel, 21369 Center Ridge Road, Fairview Park.
