Marian Ferkel

Marian Ferkel, 84, of CR 231, Clyde, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, as a result of an auto accident in Sandusky County.

She was born March 19, 1918, in Sandusky Co., to Loren S. and Helen A. (Bundschuh) Hawk. She married Colon Wahl on Sept. 6, 1939. He died July 6, 1980, she then married Walter Ferkel on July 9, 1983. He survives in Clyde.

Also surviving are a son, Galen Wahl of Clyde, two step-children, Tom Ferkel of Clyde and Linda Burks of Tiffin; six grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Blausey of Gibsonburg.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clyde. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Leonard F. Goeller

Leonard F. Goeller, 92, former 64 year resident of Bloomville and now a resident of Elmwood at the Shawhan in Tiffin, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Elmwood, .

He was born Aug. 29, 1910, in Bloomville, to Roe and Lena (Muntz) Goeller. He married Laurene A. Barrick on June 18, 1938, at the Bloomville United Church of Christ. She survives in Tiffin.

Survivors include: three sons, James M. (Judy) Goeller of McCutchenville, Roger F. (Jan) Goeller of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Kevin R. (Pam) Goeller of Fostoria; two daughters, Karen E. (Terry) Frost of Findlay and Linda L. (Stephan) Guth of Columbus; a brother, Robert Walker of Ormond Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Luella Grassmeyer of Thompsontown, Pa. and Madelyn Goeller of Tiffin; twelve grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Marion and William Goeller; a granddaughter, Lyn Elizabeth Frost; and a great-grandson, Brandon James Goeller.

Mr. Goeller was a member of the Bloomville United Church of Christ; former member of the church's consistory and dart ball team and also the Bloomville Senior Citizens.

Known as "Len", he was an avid golfer in the Seneca Hills Seniors Golf League and the Town and Country Seniors Golf League. Mr. Goeller retired in 1974 from the Mullhulland Plumbing in McCutchenville, and he previously worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a carpenter.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Community Hospice Care.

Gerald E. 'Jerry' Mathias

Gerald E. "Jerry" Mathias, 66, of 811 Findlay St., Carey, died 11:53 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Tiffin, to Jess and Alma (Runion) Mathias. He married Anna May (Laugherty) on Feb. 17, 1954. She survives in Carey.

Also surviving are: a son, Jerry Mathias II of W. Va.; five daughters, Mrs. Ownie (Robin) Hamden of Toledo, Mrs. Everett (Laura) Stapleton of Forest; Mrs. John (Scarlett) Dosh of New Riegel, Mrs. Jeffery (Belinda) Horn of Arlington and Mrs. Thomas (Tabetha) Daum of Findlay; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Mathias of Nekoosa, Wis.; three sisters, Mattie Kilen and Jane Thaxton, both of Tiffin and Margaret Cross of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Mathias; a brother, Norval Mathias; a sister, Mrs. Milford (Berniece) Biller.

Mr. Mathias was employed at P&A Industries of Findlay.

There will be no funeral, the body was cremated. A Memorial service will announced at a later date.

There will also be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 415 College St., Findlay.

The Beach Funeral Home in Carey is in Charge of the arrangements.

Darren John Smith

Darren John Smith, 24, of Republic, formerly of New Haven, died Sunday evening Nov. 10, 2002, of a tragic accident due to the tornado.

He was born Oct. 31, 1978, in Willard, Darren is survived by his devoted parents, Donald J. and Patricia A. (Meek) Smith.

He was dearly loved by his sister, Mrs. Laura A. (Tracy) Williams, of O'Fallon, Mo., and brother, Timothy B. (Pam) King of Altus, Okla.; niece, Megan King,; nephews, Christopher and Brandon Williams, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Darren was a graduate of Willard High School in 1997, and Heidelberg College, Tiffin, in 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. After college, he was employed by Heidelberg College in the Information Technology Department, and was continuing his studies pursuing a Master's Degree.

While at college, he was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Tau Fraternity. Darren was also very active in the band, orchestra and theater, both in high school and in college. He was an avid bowler from grade school on.

Darren was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Haven. He attended Grace Community Church in Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his half-brother, Mathew Smith; his maternal grandparents, John and Frances (Crabbs) Meek and paternal grandparents, Carl and Emma (Myers) Smith.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at the Secor Funeral Home in Willard, with the Fr. Bill Pifher officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Grove cemetery in New Haven.

Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 14, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Heidelberg College in care of the "Darren Smith Memorial Fund", 310 E. Market St., Tiffin, OH 44883-2462.

Velma L. Armitage

Velma L. Armitage, 96, former Bloomville resident, died Wednesday, November 13, 2002, at the Seneca House in Tiffin, where she resided.

She was born May 20, 1906, in Melmore, to Fred A. and Bessie (Richard) Frankenfield. On Dec. 9, 1924, she married Hayward M. Armitage in Bloomville. He died July 18, 1987.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Elaine Funkhouser of Attica and Mrs. Barbara (William) Stallings of Tiffin; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Frankenfield, two sisters, Grace Smith and Mildred Earick, and an infant son, Paul.

Mrs. Armitage was a member of the Bloomville United Church of Christ and the church circle, and the Bloomville Senior Citizens.

Funeral will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville, with The Rev. Cathy Wirth officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice cemetery, Attica.

Visitation will be Saturday morning, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church, Heartland Hospice, or to Seneca House.

Delbert J. Heinze

Delbert J. Heinze, 79, of 1521 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, died at 5:09 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, in the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

He was born June 4, 1923, in Seneca County to Ernest and Della (Sickles) Heinze. He married Mildred Spires Dec. 28, 1967, in Findlay; and she died Nov. 21, 2001.

A sister, Pauline Sendelbach of Fostoria, survives.

His parents and a sister, Helen Thompson, are deceased.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He retired in 1985 from Union Carbide, Fostoria, after 44 years. He was a member of Fostoria United Sportsmen, VFW Post 421, American Legion Post 73, Eagles Aerie 430 and Loyal Order of the Moose 1567, all of Fostoria.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Pastor David Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, Arcadia, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will conduct Military Graveside Honors.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where an Eagles memorial service will be at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Frances A. Miller

Frances A. Miller, 77, of Grace Street, Tiffin, lost a courageous battle with cancer Friday morning, Nov. 15, 2002, at her home.

Frances was born Jan. 31, 1925, in Tiffin, Ohio, to Albert H. and Della Rae (Colvin) Kiesel. On May 6, 1945, she married Robert M. Miller, Sr., at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Tiffin. Her beloved "Bob" preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 2002, after 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are her children: Diana (Craig) Scalf of Tiffin, Ann (Clint) Berkheimer of Bettsville, Robert Jr. of Sycamore, James (Wonetta) of Fort Seneca, Buddy E. of Rising Sun and Sandy (Ken) Gooding of Tiffin. Also surviving are brothers, Jack Kiesel of Tiffin and William Kiesel of Republic. Brothers, Paul, Bud and Jim are deceased. In addition, she is survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Frances was very creative and artistic and loved flowers, animals, cooking and especially children. In her youth she was employed at S.S. Kresge's and the Ritz Theatre Nut Shoppe. Later, she was a cook at the Tiffin Moose Lodge. Frances had also been an avid go-cart racer in the late 50's and early 60's, winning many trophies.

She was a member of the Tiffin Post 2858 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Frances had also been actively involved with both the Tiffin Mooseketeer and Tiffin Fortress Baton Corps. She was much-loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Calling hours are Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Fairmont cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice.

Brian M. Thompson

Brian M. Thompson, 19, of 105-1/2 Frost Parkway, Tiffin, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 6, 1983, in Wooster, to David M. and Jean A. (Scherger) Thompson. His parents survive in Fostoria.

Also surviving are: a daughter, Alexis Mercades Thompson of Tiffin; a brother, Jason Thompson of Columbus; grandparents, Norman and Dorothy Thompson of Findlay; family friend, Grandma Ester Kotnik; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Betty Scherger.

Mr. Thompson was a member of the 2001 class at Hopewell-Loudon High School and attained his GED. He worked at the CCC Camp in Green Springs for the Conservation Corp. He was a big Yankees and Michigan fan. Mr. Thompson was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom.

Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. Art Niewiadomski officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alexis Mercades Thompson Trust c/o David and Jean Thompson.

Daisy E. Cole

Daisy E. Cole, 80, of 231 E. Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.

She was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Mechanicsburg to Roy and Rosalie (Smith) Culp. They are deceased. She married Carl T. Cole April 18, 1942, in Napoleon. He died Nov. 6, 1993.

Survivors include: four sons, Curtis K., Chris A. and Clark W. all of Fostoria, and Carl L. of Oscoda, Mich.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Lola Belle Shellhouse

Lola Belle Shellhouse, 84, of 3552 TH 10, Sycamore, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

She was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Crawford County to William F. and Caroline (Seiler) Leonberger. She married Arthur L. Shellhouse on Nov. 30, 1939. He survives.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Jean) Chaney of rural Sycamore, Mrs. Ronald (Mary Jo) Wolf of Columbus and Mrs. Phillip (Janet) Robinson of rural Sycamore; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Hazel Leuthold of Bucyrus, Mrs. Velma Dickey, Mrs. Wilford (Isabelle) Billings, both of rural Bucyrus, and Mrs. Richard (Norma) Fairchild of Bucyrus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and three sisters.

Mrs. Shellhouse was a homemaker and a 1936 graduate of Mt. Zion High School. She retired from General Electric, in Tiffin, after 18 years. She was a member of the Sycamore United Church of Christ and the church choir for many years.

She was also a member of: the Women's Guild of the Church, the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class, Sycamore Garden Club, Sycamore Quilters, Mohawk Historical Society and Belgian Draft Horse Association.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Diane Thomas and the Rev. Edgar Shelly officiating.

Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sycamore United Church of Christ or the Leukemia Society of America.

Bernice A. Collingwood

Bernice A. Collingwood, 98, formerly of McComb, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at Blakley Care Center in North Baltimore, where she had been a resident for two years.

She was born April 10, 1904, in Liberty Township, Hancock County, to Frank A. and Ada (Dennis) Gariepy. She married Darius A. Collingwood March 14, 1926, in Findlay. He died Dec. 7, 1974.

Surviving are: two sons, Joe Collingwood of McComb and Gene Collingwood of Findlay; a daughter, C. Jane Creps of Rudolph; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marguerite Gonzales of Rawson.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hartley Funeral Home in McComb. Burial will be in McComb Union cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Thelma 'T-Bird' Dotson

Thelma "T-Bird" Dotson, 75, of 5896 TR 44, Bloomville, died at 1:54 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Feb. 13, 1927, in New Washington to Vernon R. and Lillian (Strausbaugh) Wheatley. She married Thomas B. Dotson in Tiffin on Aug. 17, 1946. He died Aug. 19, 1986.

Surviving are: three sons, Thomas E. Dotson and Vernon P. Dotson, both of Tiffin, and Scott A. Dotson of Hollywood, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Tom (Linda) Lee of Tiffin, Mrs. Steve (Christine) Peyton of Bloomville and Kay Smith of Ocala, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl Wheatley of Dennisen, Texas, Richard Wheatley of Fresno, Calif., and Jerald Wheatley of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and a daughter, Debra A. Dotson.

Mrs. Dotson was a homemaker. She attended Tiffin Columbian High School. She was a member of Women of the Moose and also a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Pastor Jim Michaels officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the local women's shelter.
