Anna L. Smith

Anna Louise (Hochstettler) Smith, 76, 60 N. SR 101, Tiffin, died at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Bluffton, to the late Jacob and Viola (Steiner) Hochstettler. On Dec. 16, 1961, in Tiffin, she married Donald E. Smith. He survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Donita Smith of Tiffin and Paula (Louis) Mattero of Waterville; and two grandchildren, Dominic and Gracie Mattero.

A graduate of Bluffton High School, Mrs. Smith received her bachelor's degree in home economics from Taylor University, Upland, Ind. She retired from Food Service at Heidelberg College and also was a former Seneca County Extension Agent. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, Tiffin. A former 4-H advisor, she also was a member of Tiffin Women's Club, Home Economics Club, and a founding member of Women ACT.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mickey McManus officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, Tiffin.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, Nov. 19, at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419) 447-3113 and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the church or to Community Hospice Care, in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Mildred M. Stucky

Mildred M. Stucky, 89, of Bloomville, died Sunday night, Nov. 17, 2002, at the Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville.

She was born Nov. 28, 1912, in New Washington, to Frank and Pearl (Blinn) Schiefer. On Sept. 1, 1938, she married Ezra Stucky in Attica. He died Feb. 21, 1983.

Survivors include: a brother, John Schiefer of Attica; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stucky was a member of the St. Johns Baseline United Methodist Church of Christ, Bloomville; the Women's Guild of the church; the Bloomville Council 24 Daughters of America; and the Golden Agers of Bucyrus.

Mrs. Stucky retired in 1977 from Carl's Rexall Drugstore in Bloomville, where she was a clerk. she had also worked at the Lykens School as a cook and the GE in Tiffin.

Funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at the St. Johns Baseline United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Daniel Ward officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation will be Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert W. Curlis

Robert W. Curlis, 62, of Bradner, died 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 10, 1940, in Bradner, to Walter W. and LaVilla I. (Babcock) Curlis/Carr. He married Vicki E. (David) Curlis on March 7, 1970, in Hatton. She survives in Bradner.

Also surviving are: his mother of Findlay; wife; a son, Jamie Curlis and a daughter, Karen Curlis, both of Bradner; three brothers, Arvin "Woody" Curlis of Winterhaven, Fla. (formerly of Findlay), Thomas Curlis of Tiffin, Randy Curlis of Helena and three grandchildren.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Barndt Funeral Home in Wayne. Burial will be in Graham cemetery, Wayne.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Edna M. Sliffe

Edna M. Sliffe, 84, of West Fourth Street, Fostoria, died 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria.

She was born June 18, 1918, in Bloomdale, to Charles and Zella (Slotterbeck) Bohring. She first married Walter Stein, he died. She then married Wade Sliffe and he also is deceased.

Surviving are: two brothers, Leo Bohring of Port Clinton and Ray Bohring of Bloomdale; three grandchildren, a step grandchild and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Eidenhour cemetery near Pemberville.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Richard Thompson

Richard "Dick" Thompson, 72, of San Bernardino, Calif., died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at St. Bernardine Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Bettsville.

Surviving are: his wife, Mavis Smith of San Bernardino, Calif.; a son, Gregory Smith of Redland, Calif.; a daughter, Christine Ladd of San Bernardino; a brother, Fred Smith of San Bernardino; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Thompson was a U.S. Air Force veteran, retiring in 1964.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Montecito Memorial Park, Colton, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, San Bernardino, Calif.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bobbitt Memorial Chapel, San Bernardino, Calif.

James 'Homer' Hughes

James "Homer" Hughes, 79, of 1548 State Route 53, Lot 6, died 8:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at home.

He was born June 18, 1923 in Salyersville, Ky. to Cyrus C. and Ora (Hackworth) Hughes. He married Mrs. Irene (Adams) in 1940. She is deceased. He then married Mrs. Carol (Tucker) in 1954 She is deceased. Then he married Catherine (Adams) on June 15, 1996. She survives.

Also surviving are : his children: Mr. Danny Hughes of Lake Wales, Fla., Mr. Gary Hughes of Spring, Texas, Mr. Mark Hughes of Columbus, Mr. Donald Hughes of Findlay, Mr. Charles Hughes of Fostoria, Mr. Homer Lee Hughes of Cocoa, Fla., Mr. James M. (Dink) Hughes of Fostoria, Mr. Malcoln Hughes of Cocoa, Fla., Mrs. Tim (Sandra) Boden of Fostoria, Mrs. Darrell (Ora) Brown of Fostoria, Mrs. James (Joyce) Spurlock of rural Sycamore; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren and 20 step great-grandchildren; Step children: Mr. Robert Adams of Bloomville, Mr. David Adams of Rome City, Ind., Christine Keezer of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mrs. George (Alene) Wise of rural Upper Sandusky; a brother, Mr. Haskell Hughes of Winter Haven, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Adams of Albion, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; a step-son, James Adams; four brothers; two grandchildren; a step-grandchild and a step great-grandchild.

Mr. Hughes was self-employed and had retired as owner of Hughes Bait and Variety Store in Fostoria and loved to go to Flea Markets. He was a member of Pentecostal Tabernacle of Oceola. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Polaris. Mr. Hughes received a Bronze Star.

Funeral will be 11 a,m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Carl Angel and the Rev. James Spurlock officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Charles C. Nye

Charles C. Nye, 86, of 60 N. SR 101, Lot 76, Tiffin, died 2:30 pm. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born May 12, 1916, in Tiffin, to Charles C. and Marie (Chatelain) Nye. He married Leota F. (Bishop) Nye in tiffin on May 31, 1942. She survives.

Also surviving are: two son, Gary Nye of Tiffin and Kenneth Nye of Enosburg Falls, Vt.; a daughter, Sonja Webb of Tiffin; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a brother, Richard Nye of Cleveland, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Nye, Robert Nye and Eldon Nye; two sisters, Marie Runion and Louise Angena.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Toby Lee Osterberg

Toby Lee Osterberg, 30, of Fostoria, died Sunday evening, Nov. 17, 2002.

He was born Dec. 21, 1971, in Fostoria, to David and Judith Jane (Sayre) osterberg.

Surviving are: his father (unknown); his mother of Fostoria; two brothers, Timothy Osterberg and Anthony Osterberg; a sister, Tonya Ferguson, all of Fostoria.

Private family visitation has taken place at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery in Jackson Township.

Donald G. Baker

Donald G. Baker, 70, of 768 Stinchcomb Dr., Fostoria, died 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at his residence.

He was born March 7, 1932, in Fremont, to William R. and Maude E. (Berryman) Baker.

Surviving are: four daughters, Mrs. Brian (Sandra) Gabel of Fremont, Mrs. Dennis (Cindy) Reinhard, Mrs. Paul (Linda) Feasel, both of Fostoria, Mrs. Vladimir (Patricia) Trynkin of San Diego, Calif.; a son, Mike Baker of Dublin; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert E. Baker and Ronald L. Baker, both of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Warren Baker.

Mr. Baker was retired from the Ohio State Liquor Dept. as an employee; former owner of the Driftwood Lounge; Pro/manager of Lakeland Golf Course, both in Fostoria; former Pro at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fremont; Green Hills Golf Course in Clyde and Willard Golf Club in Willard.

He was of the Methodist faith, traveled with his children while involved with golf clinics, and took great pride in their accomplishments in golf tournaments, as they traveled across the United States and Canada. He was honored by The (Toledo) Blade for his efforts in organizing both adult and junior golf outings in Northwestern Ohio. Mr. Baker was also an avid Buckeye fan and sweepstakes enthusiast. He was a graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Professional Golfers Association Business School in Clearwater, Fla.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Fremont.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Local Diabetes Assn. and the Heart Assn., c/o Hoening Funeral Home, 242 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, OH 44830.

Walter S. Kelly

Walter S. Kelly, 99, of 603 Universe Blvd., Juno Beach, Fla., died Sept. 24, 2001, in Juno Beach, Fla.

He was born May 15, 1902, in New Lexington, to Fero and Esher (Moore) Kelly. He married Beulah Willis Kelly. She is deceased. He then married Catharine Niebel. She is also deceased.

Surviving are: a son, Mr. Richard (Barbara) Kelly of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Sparrow of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two wives.

Mr. Kelly was a retired postal worker for Railway Postal Service, where he worked for 37 years. He was a member of Oceanview United Methodist Church of Christ in Juno Beach, Fla. He was also a member of the Lake Worth Kiwanis Club and the Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce.

Catharine (Niebel) Kelly

Catharine (Niebel) Kelly of 603 Universe Blvd., and formerly of Sycamore, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002 in Juno Beach, Fla.

She was born in Sycamore to Orville J. and Marcella (Musser) Niebel. She married Walter Kelly who died Sept. 24, 2001.

Surviving are: a step-son, Mr. Richard (Barbara) Kelly of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren; two nieces, Mrs. Judy K. Smith (Doyle) Shelbyville, Mich. and Mrs. Karen (Ed) Goodman of Cuero, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, William M. Niebel and a nephew, Timothy Niebel.

Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker and a member of the Oceanview United Methodist Church in Juno Beach, Fla. She was a former American Red Cross volunteer and was also involved in volunteer patient care at Waterford Health Center in Juno Beach, Fla. Mrs. Kelly was a member of the P.E.O.

Memorial Services for Walter S. and Catharine (Niebel) Kelly will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25 at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Edgar Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Pamela Mae Young

Pamela Mae Young, 60, of 506 Broadway St., Republic, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 19, 2002, at her home.

She was born July 8, 1942, in Tiffin, to William R. and Corleen T. (Thome) Stauffer. On Nov. 1, 1963, in Tiffin, she married Edwin G. Young. He survives in Republic.

Also surviving are: three sons, Jeffrey G. (Carla) Young of Republic, Jai E. (Angela) Young and Jason L. (Jill) Young, both of Tiffin; three daughters, Jody A. Young of Republic, Josette M. (Michael) Heschel of Tiffin and Jill C. (Douglas) Depinet of Bloomville; a sister, Janis L. Kirby of Tiffin; a brother, William B. Stauffer of Tiffin; and 14 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey D. Stauffer.

Mrs. Young was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Republic. She was employed at Fatheads Restaurant as a cook. Mrs. Young was an avid bingo player and loved camping.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat cemetery, Republic.

Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care.

Adam C. Ports

Adam C. Ports, 18, of 2206 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born May 17, 1984 in Wooster to Michael and Lori (Covert) Ports, they survive in Wooster.

Also surviving include: a brother, Matthew Ports of Wooster; paternal grandparents, William and Margaret Ports of Wooster; and a number of aunts and uncles.

Preceded in death were: maternal grandparents, Bette and Carl Covert.

Mr. Ports was a 2002 graduate of Wooster High School and a freshman at Tiffin University, majoring in Business. He was active in Student Government at Tiffin. He had achieved a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and helped other students in martial arts by teaching. He attended West Hill Baptist Church and had worked at Movies 10 for 3 years and also at Ports Petroleum.

Friends will be received at the McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill Street, Wooster, OH, on Sunday from 5-9:00 p.m.

Services will be held at the West Hill Baptist Church, Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 at 1 p.m. with The Rev. Scott Price officiating.

Internment will follow in Wooster cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Adam Charles Ports Foundation for Martial Arts (to be established), c/o any FirstMerit Bank or to the FirstMerit Bank, P.O. Box 37, Wooster, OH 44691 in his memory.
