Charles L. Miller

Charles L. Miller, 84, of Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, formerly of Lakeland, FL., and the Tiffin area, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002. He was born in Hooversville, PA on Dec. 29, 1917 to Charles S. and Bertha M. (Cable) Miller. He married Beulah Mae Forkner, over sixty years ago, and she survives.

Other survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law, James I. and Cindy Miller of Wichita, KS; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela A. and Tony Swain of Bellefonte, PA; five grandchildren, Richard A. Miller, Douglas J. Miller, Jeremy Briar, Ryan S. Swain and Cathy Swain-Abrams, and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Miller graduated from Otterbein College in Westerville and later received his Masters of Divinity from Winnbrenner Seminary in Findlay. The Rev. Miller retired from the West Ohio Conference in 1983 after 40 years of service to churches in Rising Sun, Whiteville, Attica, Bascom, Wauseon, Gibsonburg, Celina, Old Fort and Toledo. He was a member of the Men's Fellowship at Otterbein and volunteered at the Otterbein Day Care Center for several years. He was also a former member of the Lion's Club and enjoyed reading and puzzles.

Preceded in death were: his parents; six brothers and sisters; and a great grandson.

Visitation hours are from 10-11:00 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, with the funeral service immediately following, all at the Otterbein-Lebanon Chapel. Memorials requested in lieu of flowers to Otterbein Benevolent Care Fund, 585 N. St. Rt. 741, Lebanon, OH 45036 and/or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. Arrangements by Oswald-Hoskins Funeral Home, Lebanon.

Evelyn Lee Kubasek

Evelyn Lee Kubasek, 79, of 8100 CR 59, Carey, formerly of Fostoria, died at 3:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002. She was born May 27, 1923 to Lee and Virginia (Hampshire) Dixen in Fostoria. She married Charles Maxwell Jurrus, Sr., they divorced, then married Verl J. Kubasek on June 25, 1960, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three children, C. Max Jurrus of Findlay, Kris Kubasek, and Mrs. Kelly Hill, both of Carey; and 8 grandchildren.

The private graveside service will be at Spring Grove cemetery, Carey. There are no visitation hours scheduled. The Stombagh-Batton Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Richard Edwin Collins

Richard Edwin Collins, resident of Elmwood Assisted Living at the Shawhan, passed away Dec. 11, 2002. Born May 3, 1924, in Tiffin, to the late Edwin W. Collins Jr. and Lillian (Stone) Collins, he married Janet Finkel in Lorain, Ohio on Aug. 20, 1949. Janet preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 2002.

Daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Becky) Bernard of Tiffin and Debra Jean Collins-Moore of Columbus, survive him along with four grandchildren, Seth Allan Chaffee, Keith Collins Bernard, Jonathan Richard Moore and Leigh Janette Moore. A cousin, Margaret Christiansen of Port Clinton, also survives. Deceased is one daughter, Kathi Sue Collins.

He graduated from Columbian High School in 1942 and Ohio Northern University as a civil engineer and surveyor in 1949. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired from Tiffin Art Metal in 1987.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and elder/trustee. Other memberships included Tiffin Masonic Lodge 77, Seneca Chapter 42, Clinton Council 47, DeMolay Commandery 9, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and Seneca County Scottish Rite Association, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo and past president of Tiffin Shrine; Roadrunner and Coyote for Shriners Children's Hospitals and past patron of Tiffin Order of Eastern Star 189.

He had been president of Tiffin Y.M.C.A. board of trustees, president of the American Red Cross Tiffin Chapter and blood chairman; a member of the 49th OVI Civil War restoration unit and the North-South Skirmish Association.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, in the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Mahlmann officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 10-10:45 a.m. Monday at the church, where a Masonic service will be at 10:45 a.m.

The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners Children Hospitals, First Presbyterian Church or Community Hospice Care.

Dale Hendricks

Dale Hendricks, 76, of 613 Broadway, Fostoria, died at 1:38 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in The Toledo Hospital.

He was born June 5, 1926, in Vanlue to Howard E. and Eva (Orwick) Hendricks who are deceased. He married Cleora A. Coleman Oct. 26, 1946, in St. Wendelin's in Fostoria and she survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: seven sons, Charles W. and Robert A. of Fostoria, Donald E. of Longmont, Colo., James H. of West Millgrove, Gregory D. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Douglas C. of Cleveland, and Mark A. of Owego, NY (US Navy); 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul of Port Clinton; and a sister, Shirley Pierce of West Millgrove.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II.

A Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Nicholas Parish cemetery, Frenchtown, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will conduct military honors.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where there will be a Christian wake service at 8:30 p.m.

Barbara R. Zierolf

Barbara R. Zierolf, 83, formerly of Carey, died at 7:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, in Good Shepherd Home, Fostoria.

She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Sandusky to Robert W. and Adeline R. (Remlinger) Exline who are both deceased. She married William R. Zierolf Jan. 24, 1942, and he died July 17, 1966.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sandra King of Fostoria, Zoe Mitchell of Clarksville, Tenn., and Prudence Prescott of Carey; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in The Original Shrine Church, St. Edward's Catholic Church, Carey, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday in the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where a Rosary will be conducted at 8 p.m.

A.L. Junior Halcomb

Word has been received that A.L. Junior Halcomb died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at Cuyahoga Falls Hospital.

He was born Dec. 12, 1930, at Whitesburg, Ky. He married Faye McIntosh and she survives along with two children, Rick and Jan, from California.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Redmon Funeral Home, Stow.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Sandra Ann Athy

Sandra Ann Athy, 60, of Attica, died at noon, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at her home. She was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Seneca County, Ohio, to the late Floyd and Irene (Kipps) McQuistion. Mrs. Athy was married Jan. 27, 1977, to Clarence "Chuck" Athy, who survives. She was employed at the Timken Company for 25 years, retiring in 2002 and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Attica.

Mrs. Athy is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rob (Michelle) Dribin of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters: Mrs. Brian (Robin) Marker of Tiffin, Ohio, and Mrs. Eric (Raycine) Winbigler of Warren, Mich.; two stepsons, Dennis Athy of New Washington and Paul F. Athy of Lemon Grove, Calif.; a granddaughter; eight step-grandchildren and a great grandson; a brother, James McQuistion of Sycamore; and two sisters, Marilyn McQuistion of Findlay and Debra Chard of Edison, Ohio. She was preceded in death by two sons, Sean and Matthew Ridenour; a step-granddaughter; and brother, Floyd McQuistion Jr.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica, with the Rev. Janine Dress of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 181 E. Perry St., Tiffin, OH 44883.

Olivia Ann Buskirk

Olivia Ann Buskirk was stillborn, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Craig D. and Jenifer R. (Detterman) Buskirk, of 3924 N. SR 100, Tiffin, are the surviving parents.

Also surviving are: a sister, Lauren M. Buskirk of Tiffin; maternal grandparents, Kenneth M. and Evalene Detterman of Bloomville; paternal grandparents, Steve and Karen Buskirk of Tiffin; and paternal great-grandparents, Paul and Efthea Buskirk of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Halcyon and Laura Detterman, James Sheets, and Clarence and Letha Miller; and also paternal great-grandparents, George and Alyce Hunker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 205, 3085 S. State Route 19, Bloomville, OH 44818.

Claudia R. Hillier

Claudia R. Hillier, 99, of Rock Street, Fostoria, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Fostoria.

She was born March 28, 1903, in Sycamore, to Frank and Olive McClellan-Fountaine. She married Clarence E. Hillier on April 20, 1925, in Fostoria. He died April 15, 1980.

Surviving are: a son, Michael G. Hillier of Scituate, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. James "Diane" Macdonald of Englewood, N.J.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather, G. A. Fountaine.

Mrs. Hillier was a graduate of Fostoria High School and attended Tiffin University. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hillier was a member of: Fostoria Forum and Altrusa Club, Member of the Toledo Weaver's Guild, and expert in Fabric Art, winning many awards at the Toledo Art Museum and Local Fairs. She also demonstrated at many local schools the art of weaving and spinning as well as the history of Fabric Making and was sometimes referred to as the "Loom Lady." She was also an avid bridge player and reader.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the Wesley United Church in Fostoria with the Rev. Branson Hawkes officiating. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery in Fostoria.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church in Fostoria, Fostoria Community Hospital or the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are being handled by the Harrold-Floriana Funeral in Fostoria.

Warren R. Overly

Warren R. Overly, 76, of 1707 Walnut St., Fostoria, died at 2:37 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 18, 1926, in Lima, to the late Lloyd W. and Bessie (Aplas) Overly. He married Dell M. (Drew) Overly April 7, 1951, in Lima. She survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are: a son, Jeffrey W. Overly of Carey; two daughters, Diane Fittro-Zumbrum of Perrysburg and Linda G. Windau of Fostoria; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Overly was a U.S. Navy veteran.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veterans of Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where an Eagles Memorial will be conducted at 6 p.m.

Ruth Mae Riester

Ruth Mae Riester, 86, of 1926 Queenswood Drive, Apt. 3, Findlay, formerly of Carey, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at The Heritage in Findlay.

He was born Feb. 27, 1916, in Carey, to the late Edward and Grace (Taft) Riester.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Patterson cemetery, Patterson.

Visitation will be Monday 4-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carolyn 'Sue' Barlekamp

Carolyn "Sue" Barlekamp, 67, of 201 Ella St., Tiffin, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

She was born May 17, 1935, in Tiffin, to Vincent J. and Cleora (Snyder) Meier. She married Gary W. Barlekamp on March 13, 1953, in Tiffin. He survives in Tiffin.

Also surviving are: a son, Dennis A. Barlekamp of Tunica, Miss.; a daughter, Patricia L. Barlekamp of Tiffin; three grandchildren; a brother, Stephen A. Meier of Tiffin; three sisters, Beverly A. Kraft, M. Jane Banks, both of Tiffin and Kathleen T. Salem of Kirklin, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Cleora Meier; and a brother, Donald V. Meier.

Mrs. Barlekamp was a homemaker. She attended Calvert High School. She was a member of AmVets Auxiliary; Women of the Moose; American Legion Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. Mrs. Barlekamp was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rosary Service will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.

Olivia Ann Buskirk

Olivia Ann Buskirk was stillborn, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Daniel (Barry) Sanchez

Daniel (Barry) Sanchez, 42, of Columbus, died 4:03 p.m. at Ohio State University in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 31, 1960, in Tiffin, to Alfred R., Sr. and Paula G. (Rhoden) Sanchez. He married Wendy Jo Harbison on Dec. 12, 1992, in Upper Sandusky. She survives.

Also surviving are: his father, Alfred R. Sanchez, Sr. of Vanlue; three brothers, Nathan Sanchez of Findlay, Tom Gerhartenstien of Republic and Alfred R. Sanchez, Jr. of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Angela Sanchez of Findlay and Lori Rulman of Bettsville.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bringman Clark & Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eugene G. Laconis

Eugene G. Laconis, 68, of Franks Ave., Clyde, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Pennsylvania, to the late Vincent and Florence (Comanski) Laconis. He married Patricia (Gallinger) Laconis on Aug. 31, 1963. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Donald E. Laconis and Michael E. Laconis, both of Clyde; a sister, Deborah Heberling of Fremont; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Vincent Laconis of Vero Beach, Fla.

A private Family Service was observed.

Arrangements were handled by Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde.

Helen M. Cole

Helen M. Cole, 100, formerly of 142 East Brown St., Carey, died 11:15 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Eaglewood Care Center in Carey.

She was born May 31, 1902, to the late Frank C. and Edla Clemens and was raised in the Sycamore area. She married Clinton Wisebaker. He is deceased. She then married Harvey Cole in 1957. He died March 2, 1985.

Surviving are: a son, Wayne Cole of Martinez, Calif.; four daughters, Patsy Sinclair of Perry, Okla., Karlene Feasel of Tiffin, Shirley Stover of Carey and Sharon Landis of Harrod, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Reva Dutcher of Sycamore.

Graveside Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Spring Grove cemetery in Carey. Burial will be Spring Grove cemetery.

Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.
