He was born Oct. 1, 1916, in Tiffin, to C.F. and Adeline (Bryan) Blakeman, both deceased. He married Maxine Pendrey, Sept. 26, 1943, in Old Fort, a marriage which lasted 59 years.

Mr. Blakeman was a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School (1934) and Tiffin University (1936).

He was an accountant with the Apex Company in Sandusky, the Herbrand Corporation in Fremont, and Standard Products Corporation in Port Clinton.

In 1962 he formed his own accounting business, in Fremont, which served numerous area firms and individuals.

He was an honored member and officer of the National Association of Accountants.

His avocational interests were many.

He was an expert fly fisherman with successful experiences with salmon in several Michigan rivers, annual trips for black-bass and salmon at Grand Lake Stream, Maine, interspersed with occasional fishing trips to Western trout streams.

But his finest fishing was actually close at hand on the Sandusky River which he knew intimately since his childhood in Tiffin.

Local anglers noted that Bob Blakeman was often able to catch smallmouth black-bass, white bass, and walleye when others could not.

He created several unique fly fishing lures adapted to the unique feeding habits of the Sandusky River's native game fish.

He was a longtime member of the Tiffin Isaac Walton League, a sport fishing and conservation organization, as well as a frequent small game hunter.

Mr. Blakeman played the clarinet and was a founding member of the Fremont Community Orchestra, Hebert Murphy, conductor.

In recent years, he performed with multiple ensembles each season, including the Green Springs Community Band, the Northcoast Band, the Gang Band, the New Washington Band, the Genoa Legion Band, and the Vacationland Band.

He met his future wife, Maxine, after joining the Green Springs band in 1938, and continued performances with that ensemble for over 60 years.

In the 1950's, he helped organize the Fremont Recreation Department's Church Softball League, a fast-pitch league composed of teams representing numerous area churches. He coached and played for the First Presbyterian team for many years.

But his greatest athletic successes involved the many baseball teams he guided over 25 years.

He began as a coach of a youth baseball team of eight year-olds, moving up to the local Little League, then to the Knot Hole league, followed by coaching the American Legion Post 121 traveling baseball team.

Renowned for imparting baseball skills to athletes of all abilities, he attended numerous baseball clinics and strongly supported league rules requiring the unbiased participation of all team members in all games.

He coached several hundred local athletes during their formative years, demonstrating appropriate sportsmanship and conduct, a matter for which he took great pride.

Mr. Blakeman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for fifty years.
