Carl A. Clouse

Carl A. Clouse, 87, of 5622 W. CR 6, New Riegel, died Dec. 31, 2002, at Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.

He was born July 15, 1915, in New Riegel to Stephen and Rosa (Reinhart) Clouse. He married Rosemary Kauffman at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Alvada Jan. 12, 1939. She survives.

Also surviving are 10 children: Theresa (Jerry) Gable of Glandorf, Marge (John) Kirian of Tiffin, Mary A. (Barry) Wines of Upper Sandusky, Bob Clouse of Arcadia, Mike (Therese) Clouse and Carol (Bill) Kinn, both of Fostoria, Kenny Clouse of Napoleon, Lenny (Lynn) Clouse and Norm Clouse, both of New Riegel, and Deb Monday of Carey; 24 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Berneda Schalk of Fostoria; and a brother, Paul Clouse of New Riegel.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and John Clouse.

Mr. Clouse was a graduate of New Riegel High School, Class of 1933, and was salutatorian of his class. He was a farmer. He was inducted into the Seneca County Agricultural Hall of Recognition in 1989. He was a representative of the Seneca County ASCS for 18 years and served six years as state president. Mr. Clouse was a member of the St. Nicholas Holy Name Society and served on the parish council. He was a member of the local Catholic Knights of Ohio, Branch 52, for 73 years and was past president. He was a member of the New Riegel Moose Lodge and served on the New Riegel Board of Education for 10 years. Mr. Clouse was also a member of the Seneca Pow-Wows Farm Bureau Advisory Groups. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Cleveland Indians baseball fan. He was a member of St. Nicholas Church in Frenchtown..

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Nicholas Church with the Rev. Conrad Sutter officiating. Burial will be in St. Nicholas cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin, and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church. A Wake Service will be at 8:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A Rosary Service will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Catholic Church; C.K. of O. Vocation Fund; St. Nicholas Catholic Church Masses; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kenneth R. McDonald

Kenneth R. McDonald, 79, formerly of South Union Street, and a resident of Independence House in Fostoria, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Fostoria to Neil and Thelma (McCallough) McDonald.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday.

Scott A. Swinehart

Scott A. Swinehart, 92, formerly of Tiffin, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at First Community Village, Columbus, where he had resided since 1998.

He was born Feb. 16, 1910, in rural Wooster, Ohio, to Parvin and Mary Ellen Christy Swinehart. On Dec. 18, 1936, he married Mary Jane Ewing of North Jackson, Ohio. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Ralph (Joan) Talmage of Columbus and Mrs. David (Margaret) Baker of Tiffin. Other survivors include seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, John W. and Fred E. Swinehart, and his son, Rev. S. David Swinehart.

Mr. Swinehart graduated from Heidelberg College in 1933, Colgate-Rochester Divinity School in 1936, and Cornell University in 1946 with a master's degree. He was a retired Presbyterian minister who served churches in New York state most of his career. In retirement, he served for one year as interim pastor of Fort Seneca United Church of Christ and for 11 years as minister of visitation at Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin.

He was a member of the Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery, the Tiffin Kiwanis Club and the Heidelberg Fellows.

A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin, with the Rev. Clifford G. Farmer, the Rev. Roger D. Perl and Elder Donald K. Loving officiating.

Visitation will be Friday one-half hour before and one-half hour after the church service.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at a later date in Wooster cemetery, Wooster, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Heidelberg College, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Florence Ann Frisch

Florence Ann Frisch, formerly of 418 Front St., Upper Sandusky, and Mifflin Township, Wyandot County, died at 3:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in Wyandot County Nursing Home, where she has resided since 1997.

She was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Wyandot County, Crane Township, to the late William and Caroline S. (Pahl) Shumaker. On June 30, 1937, in Upper Sandusky, she married Lloyd I. Frisch, who died Oct. 3, 1994.

Surviving are a son, Donald Frisch of Upper Sandusky; five daughters, Carol Sue Frey and Jean Ann Frey, both of Upper Sandusky, Shirley Altvater of Carey, Judy Frey of Upper Sandusky and Geri Mehling of Tiffin; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. today in St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Bringman Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Walter J. Ball

Walter J. Ball, 85, of 409 Brinker St., Bellevue, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born June 24, 1917, in Peru, Ohio, to the late Anthony and Rosa (Fisher) Ball. His wife, Marian (Cupp) Ball, whom he married Aug. 31, 1940, survives.

Survivors include: four children, David W. Ball, Mary Lou Adkins and Susan Short, all of Bellevue, and Terry Ball Blanton of Colorado; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William Dirlam of Clyde and Paul Jarrett of Bellevue.

Mr. Ball served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Family services will take place today in the Auxter Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Lyle F. King

Lyle F. King, 81, of 307 Monroe St., Bettsville, died at 5:41 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Rudolph, to Claude and Bernice (Shreffler) King Sr. He married Elizabeth (Barnes) King, in England, on Oct. 31, 1944. She preceded him in death.

Surviving are: two sons, Michael King of Green Springs and Jay Dee King of Fayettville, Pa.,; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a brother, Claude King of Tiffin; three sisters, Alice Marie Langenhop of Napoleon, Betty Morrison of Sun City, Fla., and Ruth Ann Sisco of Bettsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Larry King; a daughter, Linda Eidenour; three brothers, Kenneth King, Richard King and Arthur King.

Mr. King was a lifelong resident of Bettsville, graduating from Bettsville High School, class of 1939. He retired from the Basic Corporation after 41 years of service. Mr. King was a U.S. Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne, serving in World War II.

He was a member of the Tiffin Moose.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Engle Funeral Home in Bettsville, with Deacon Tom Ackerman officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice.

Geraldine Mae Shock

Geraldine Mae Shock, 70, of Attica, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 1, 2003, at Mercy Hospital of Willard.

She was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Seneca County, to the late Howard and Ester (Oberlander) Snyder.

Mrs. Shock worked at C. E. White Company in New Washington and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Mrs. Shock is survived by her husband, Robert A. Shock, whom she married June 9, 1956; four sons: Dennis E. Shock (Deb) of Clyde, Richard A. Shock (Sandra) of Willard, James C. Shock and Ronald L. Shock, both of Attica; two daughters, Judy M. Hopple (Keith) and Barbara K. Shock, both of Attica; nine grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Snyder of Attica.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Snyder.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Janine Dress, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in the Attica-Venice Twp. cemetery in Attica.

Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 326 S. Main St., Attica, or the Seneca East Public Library, P.O. Box 572, Attica, OH 44807.

Mary Alice Cahill

Mary Alice Cahill, 85, of Tiffin Street, Attica, died at 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard.

She was born June 27, 1917, in Ohio, to the late Rev. Forest and Mrs. (Tittle) Moon.

Mrs. Cahill was a surgical nurse and a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Eastern Star, and Literary Guild.

Mrs. Cahill is survived by five sons: F. Dallas Cahill, DDS, of Attica, James F. Cahill, Ph.D. of Richboro, Pa., Thomas R. Cahill of Gurnee, Ill., Edwin J. "Joe" Cahill of LaVerne, Calif., and Donald E. Cahill of Tiffin; a daughter, Nancy L. Futrell of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Blake Moon of Ohio; and two sisters, Eva Shepherd and Ruthy Mattison, both of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Cahill, M.D., Dec. 19, 1983; and two brothers, Vain and John Moon.

Funeral will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Service, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica.

Friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Bessie M. Woodruff

Bessie M. Woodruff, 82, of Risingsun, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, in Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin. She was born Feb. 1, 1920, in Fostoria to Walter and Ada (Edinger) Bassett. On Dec. 14, 1936, she married Lewis E. Woodruff. He died Dec. 11, 1980.

Surviving are three brothers, Lowell Bassett of Hillard, Ronald Bassett of Houghton Lake, Mich., and Norman Bassett of Mesa, Ariz.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Girton Church of God in Girton, Ohio. Burial will be in Trinity cemetery near Risingsun. Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Charles G. Heck

Charles G. Heck, 81, of 307 Random Road, Upper Sandusky, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at his home.

He was born Nov. 5, 1921, to Clifford G. and Ferne (Stuckey) Heck.

On Oct. 19, 1946, he married Johan Ulrich. She died Jan. 6, 1983.

He married Audrey Enders Nov. 4, 1989. She survives.

Other survivors include: two stepchildren, Lee Hollanshead of Upper Sandusky and Jo Hollanshead of Powell; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Guitar of Wellington; four step-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Heck was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.

Private graveside services will be at a later date.

Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

There are no visitation hours.

Frona M. Walter-Phillips

Frona M. Walter-Phillips, 85, formerly of 2346 SR 568, Carey, died at 1:12 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Alger to Hark and Mollie Stone. She married William M. Walter Dec. 20, 1935; he died in June 1977. Then she married Wesley Phillips Aug. 3, 1978; he died Dec. 26, 1990.

Survivors include: three sons, Jack, James and Stephen Walter, all of Carey; two daughters, Naomi Davis of Findlay and Susan Shaferly of Alvada; three stepsons, Paul and Lewis Walter of Carey and Glen Phillips of Carey; two stepdaughters, Esther Cole of Alvada and Ruth Mohn of Carey; 10 grandchildren; 36 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 84 step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Evelyn Salyer of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ridge Chapel Church of the Nazarene, Carey, with burial in Zion Bloom cemetery, Vanlue.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey; and 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Grant Eugene Gardy

Grant Eugene "Bud" Gardy, 70, of Charles Meadows Apartments, died at 12:17 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 1, 1932, in Swedesboro, N.J., to Grant E. and Emma (King) Gardy who are deceased. He was divorced.

Survivors include: a son, Kenneth Gardy of New Jersey; and two brothers, Roger of Michigan and Robert of Florida.

There will be no visitation or services.

Arlene (Wooten) Meddles

Arlene (Wooten) Meddles, 77, of Fresno, Calif., and formerly of Columbus, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Hinds Hospice, Fresno, Calif.

She was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Greenup, Ky., to Clarence and Rosella Wooten. She married Robert "Bob" Meddles March 28, 1950, in Columbus; he died April 8, 1994.

Survivors include: a son, Kevin Meddles I of Fostoria; a daughter, Karin Baker of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at the West Union cemetery, Gibsonburg.

Visitation will be today from 11 a.m.-noon at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Howard J. Beidelschies

Howard J. Beidelschies, 86, formerly of N. Fifth Street, Upper Sandusky, who had been residing at Wyandot County Home, Upper Sandusky, died at 5:10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

He was born July 24, 1916, in Crane Township, Wyandot County, to Charles and Ida Mae (Keener) Beidelschies.

Survivors include: seven nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. He is survived locally by: a nephew, Larry Beidelschies of Tiffin; and a niece, Phyllis Bosler of Tiffin.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Raymond A. Peiffer

Raymond A. Peiffer, 76, of 148 S. Muncie St., Carey, died at 7:31 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, in Wyandot Manor, Upper Sandusky.

He was born Oct. 11, 1926, in New Riegel, to the late Frank and Anna (Lucius) Peiffer. He married Ardene M. Niederkohr Jan. 22, 1947, in Carey at Our Lady of Consolation. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Ronald Peiffer of Marietta, Ga., and Roger Peiffer of Carey; a daughter, Mrs. David (Sharon) Gill of Carey; four grandchildren, Nicole, Austin, Brandon and Erika Peiffer; four brothers, Harold of Lakewood, Leo of Tiffin, Elmer of New Riegel and Carl of Findlay; and a sister, Norma Jean Cramer of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Eugene, Wilfred, Francis, Herman and Gerald Peiffer; and a sister, Anna Mae Rumschlag.

Mr. Peiffer owned and operated Ray Peiffer Real Estate and Insurance for 40 years. He was also associated with Peiffer Accounting and Tax Service for 10 years, both in Carey. He was mayor of Carey from 1966-1972. He was an avid golfer, who enjoyed his family time, along with fishing.

Mr. Peiffer attended New Riegel High School. He was a charter and life member of VFW Post 3759 and Carey Conservation Club. He was member and past commander of American Legion Post 344; Carey Businessman's Assoc.; and Bob's Countryside Golf Course in Carey. Mr. Peiffer was a former third and fourth degree Knight of Columbus. He was a member of Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey with the Rev. Conrad Sutter OFM Conv., officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, with a Christian Wake Service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carey Volunteer Fire Department or Wyandot Health Foundation c/o the funeral home.
