Paul R. Bernard

Paul R. Bernard, 82, of 114 Gross St., Tiffin, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in his home.

He was born March 27, 1920, in Tiffin, to Rene Henry and Loretta Marie (Hoffmann) Bernard, and they are deceased. He married Jeanne E. Rowan Oct. 21, 1950, in St. Agnes Church, Toledo, and she survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, James M. (Andrea) Bernard of Strongsville, Ohio, Thomas P. (Penny) Bernard of Madison, Wis., and Timothy J. (Mary) Bernard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Paula J.) Bernard-Cohen of Columbus, Ohio; and eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Jama, Andrew, Maggie, Kevin, Zoe, Lexi Bernard and Morrisa Cohen.

A brother, James Bernard, is deceased.

He was a 1938 graduate of Calvert High School. During World War II he served as a Navy Aviator and was a Flight Instructor at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station until his release from active duty. He was area sales manager for Essex Wire Corp., Division of United Technologies, until retirement in 1983. He continued to sell the same line of cables for Anixter Brothers from Chicago from 1983 through the fall of 1987.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degrees, Calvert Alumni, Allen Eiry Senior Center, Friends of the Library, Nifty Fifty Bowling Club, Cotillion Club, Tiffin Elks Lodge 94, Volunteer for Tiffin Mercy Hospital Mobile Meals, and Seneca County Genealogical Society. He was very interested in all types of sporting and outdoor activities including squirrel hunting. For many years he was an avid bowler and in the recent time took to pitching horseshoes and was a member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Paul enjoyed woodworking, making numerous items for his children and grandchildren.

Rosary will be at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Concelebrants The Rev. James K. Say and the Rev. Richard Dunn will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery where military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home where 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be present 6-8 p.m.

Jay E. Swaidner

Jay E. Swaidner, 55, of 3620 S. SR 100, Tiffin, died at 2:08 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Hospice Care.

He was born May 2, 1947, in Toledo to Edward O. and Jeanne (Welker) Swaidner. He married Beverly MacDonald Feb. 25, 1967, in Toledo and she survives in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: his mother of Lorain, Ohio; and a daughter, Mrs. Angie (Jason) Pytel of Grand Rapids, Ohio.

His father is deceased.

He was a graduate of The Ohio State University with B.S. and M.S. degrees and retired as a teacher and coach. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, the Varsity "O," and was an avid Bridge player and fisherman.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Hayward officiating.

There will be no burial or visitation.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice and The Stone Lab (OSU).

Gordon D. Feindel

Gordon D. Feindel, 84, of 976 N. SR 635, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Patricia Ann Harlett

Patricia Ann McCrory Harlett (11-24-32 1-11-03) came into this world on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24, 1932) to Harry and Vivian McCrory in Tiffin, Ohio. She died Jan. 11, 2003.

After graduation from Columbian High School, she married James Harlett in 1952. They started a dry cleaning business in Tiffin, then in Toledo where they co-owned many restaurants and night clubs. After her divorce she moved to Deerfield Beach where she owned and operated the World's Trade Computer.

She will be missed by her children: Jennifer Harlett, Jeff (Kelly) Harlett, Jill (Denny) Kaminski, Jackie (Jerome) Slowinski; grandchildren: Joshua Feasel, Chrissy and Vickie Kaminski, Brook, Brady and Bridgett Harlett; aunt and uncle Phyllis and Dick Switzer.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter Jyllian Feasel.

Her smile and comfort will be missed by all she touched and those who loved her.

Memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. James K. Say will be officiating. A rosary will be prayed at 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

John J. Wilhelm

John J. Wilhelm, 73, of 46 Howard Ave., Tiffin, Ohio, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in his home.

He was born June 3, 1929, in Tiffin, to John H. and Margaret (Desch) Wilhelm, and they both are deceased. He married Marjorie A. Anderson, May 14, 1955, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, and she survives.

Other survivors include: children, Dennis J. (Linda) Wilhelm, Douglas E. (Tina) Wilhelm, Mrs. Robert (Janet E.) Coffman, Mrs. Robert (Sharon A.) Roach, Mrs. Larry (Nancy J.) Seifert, and Mrs. Charles (Carol S.) Burmeister all of Tiffin; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Julie, Greg and Nathan Wilhelm, Sarah, Aaron and Brandon Coffman, Ashley and Brandon Giesler, Christopher Roach, Ryan Bour, Nicholas and Richard Seifert; brothers, Clarence "Bill" Wilhelm of Highland Beach, Fla., Donald Wilhelm of Fairview Park, Ohio, Eugene Wilhelm of Rocky River, Ohio, and Karl Wilhelm of Peach Tree City, Ga.; and sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Helen) Rippinger of Aurora, Ill., Sr. Mary Beth Wilhelm, CSA of Fond du Lac, Wis., Mrs. Emmitt (Dorothy) Droll of Fostoria, Ohio, and Alice Rippinger of Aurora, Ill.

Brothers Robert, Paul and Ray are deceased.

He was a 1947 Calvert High School graduate. Mr. Wilhelm worked for Excello now Air Foil Textron in Fostoria as a millwright for 30 years. For 25 years, he was a real estate salesman for Paul Rosen Realty.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Past Grand Knight and 3rd Degree member, Past Faithful Navigator and 4th Degree member. He was a Calvert High Booster member. Mr. Wilhelm enjoyed playing Santa Claus for 47 years.

Rosary will be at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Concelebrants the Rev. Frank A. Murd and the Rev. Richard Dunn will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery where military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home where 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be present 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Calvert High School; St. Mary School; Seneca County Dialysis Center; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Patricia Ann Harlett

Gordon D. Feindel

Gordon D. Feindel, 84, of 976 N. SR 635, Tiffin, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

He was born Feb. 2, 1918, in Bascom, to Irving and Emma (Wertz) Feindel.

He married Esther (Young) Feindel June 22, 1941, in Fort Seneca U.C.C. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons, Dennis Feindel, and Max Feindel; five daughters, Mrs. David (Margaret) Newman of Toledo; Mrs. Dwight (Linda) Wildman, Mrs. Glenn (Sandra) Conrad of Cosby, Tenn., Mrs. George (Gale) Thomasson II and Mrs. Gary (Carol) Smidutz; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Emma Feindel; a son, Glenn Feindel; a brother, Harold Feindel; and a granddaughter, Debra Ferguson.

Mr. Feindel was a farmer and he also worked at Union Carbide, retiring in 1980. He helped the Ohio Maple Producer's Association and he started the Feindel Sugar Bush in 1959. Mr. Feindel was a Sunday School teacher and elder at the church. He played dart ball on the Bascom North Team. He was also an active fisherman, hunter and woodworker.

Mr. Feindel was a member of Union United Church of Christ in Bascom.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Union United Church of Christ with Pastor James Michaels officiating.

Burial will be in Sand Ridge cemetery, Bascom.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Union United Church of Christ or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Herbert R. Hohman

Herbert "Herbie" R. Hohman, 77, of 58 N. Perry St., New Riegel, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Fostoria Community Hospital emergency room.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Riegel.

George Sikinow

George John Krasnaghira Sikinow, 92, died Jan. 4, 2003.

He was born Dec. 20, 1910, in New York City, N.Y., to Paraskeva "Pauline" Perinska and Dimitry Krasnaghira. His father died in 1915, and his mother married Sam Sikinow.

Surviving are: his wife, Vera L. (Higginbotham) Sikinow of Fairmont; a daughter, Betty Jo Anne Cunningham of Tiffin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kathleen Seamon

Mrs. Kathleen Peacock Seamon, 77, of Swain Lane, died Jan. 25, 2003, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Walkertown, N.C.

She was born in Davie County June 18, 1925, to Albert and Carrie Belle Curlee Peacock.

Mrs. Seamon retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 35 years of service. She was raised at the Junior Order Home in Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and a sister.

She is survived by two sisters, Dot Peacock and her husband Jack of Walkertown, N.C., and Ann Locklear of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two special nephews who were caregivers, Jack Peacock of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Dennis Peacock of Laural Springs, N.C.; several loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Hal Schwantes and the Rev. Bryan Crady officiating.

Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for their loving care.

Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, 3333 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mary 'Evelyn' Walters

Mary "Evelyn" Walters, 96, of 545 W. Market St., Apt. 102, Tiffin, died at 10:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born May 30, 1906, in Hopewell Township, to James B. Shumaker and Nellie (Wingert) Shumaker. They are deceased.

She married Oval E. Walters July 21, 1924, in Monroe, Mich. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Surviving are: two sons, Duane D. Walters of Camillus, N.Y., and Paul (Richard) Walters of Tiffin; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Martha) Comer of Bascom and Mrs. Audrey Mae Moore of Jensen Beach, Fla.

She was preceded in death by a son, John A. Walters, and a brother, Clark L. Shumaker, who died in February 1996.

Mrs. Walters had spent the past 25 years in Bradenton, Fla., returning to Tiffin in October 1996. She was retired from USS Glass and Marines Candy Shop in Fremont.

Mrs. Walters was a member of Tiffin Eagles Auxiliary Post 402 for more than 50 years, and was a past president.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary R. Walters officiating.

Burial will be in Sand Ridge cemetery in Bascom.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Charles C. Stewart

Charles C. "Donnie" Stewart, 66, of 112 Covington Ave., Findlay, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Ashville, to the late Chester C. and Elsie I. (Conrad) Stewart. He married Eduvijes "Vicki" (Galan) Stewart Aug. 4, 1986, in Victoria, Texas. She survives in Findlay.

Also surviving are: a son, Alex Andrew Stewart of Findlay; two step sons, Jose F. Navarro of Toledo and Aquileo Navarro III of Findlay; two step daughters, Esmeralda Navarro of Delaware and Mary Antoszewski of Oregon; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Stewart was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Victor B. Scherger

Victor B. Scherger, 75, 139 Sycamore St., Tiffin, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 30, 1927, in Liberty Township, Ohio, to the late Albert A. and Christena M. (Brickner) Scherger. On Aug. 25, 1956, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, he married Kathleen R. Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Kevin V. (Rebecca) Scherger of Tiffin, David A. (Diana) Scherger of Dover, Del. and Frederick C. Scherger, also of Tiffin; three daughters, Theresa M. Scherger of Tiffin, Patricia G. Scherger of Fairfax, Va. and Victoria A. Sanchez of Tiffin; a granddaughter, Lindsay Rae Scherger of Tiffin; and two brothers, Harold Scherger of Tiffin and Paul Scherger of Fostoria.

A son-in-law, Joe Sanchez, also is deceased.

Mr. Scherger, a 1946 Hopewell-Loudon High School graduate, retired after 38 years as an inspector at Whirlpool Corp. in Clyde. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin and the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree. He volunteered for Community Hospice Care of Tiffin and enjoyed gardening and landscaping.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Steinle officiating.The rosary will be recited at the church 15 minutes prior to the Mass on Friday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.

Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113. There will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m. Thursday the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin, St. Joseph Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice, in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.
