Irene Kostal

Irene Kostal, 92, of Riverview Senior Health Campus, Oak Harbor, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Riverview Senior Health Campus.

She was born March 2, 1911, in Republic, to the late Hilton and Lydia (Price) Britner.

Surviving are: a son, Mr. Donald and Karen Shepherd of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kristen Shepherd, Susan Detterman, Robert Detterman and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Burdell Detterman, a daughter, Tharon Shepherd, and three sisters.

Mrs. Kostal worked as a mental health aide at the Tiffin State Hospital.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin. Burial will be in Farewell Retreat cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.

Ruth A. Johnson

Ruth A. Johnson, 94, of 220 Maple Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

She was born June 25, 1908, in Upper Sandusky, the only child of the late Milton S. and Maude M. (Frost) Newell.

She married James Wm. Johnson on Nov. 9, 1932, in St. Peter Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky. He died Nov. 7, 1957.

Surviving are: a son, James M. Johnson of Upper Sandusky; six grandchildren, James W., Shannon, Jennifer, Nicholas, Ross and Kirk and four great-grandchildren, Tileigh, Taven, James and Jenah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and a daughter, Joan D. Fox.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and she assisted her husband in the Newell Johnson Insurance Agency, Inc., where she has been the President since 1973. The agency has been a family owned business since 1904. She was a 1926 graduate of Upper Sandusky School.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, C.L.C. and had served on various church committees.

Mrs. Johnson enjoyed playing classical music on her grand piano. She was a classy woman that liked big cars. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of several Bridge Clubs and enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. She was a precinct worker at the election polls. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed rose gardening, baking cookies, traveling to Florida and Cape Cod. She also enjoyed bowling. She knitted afghans and did embroidery. She liked the Lawrence Welk Show. She had several pet dogs.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in St. Peter Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky with the Father James Holmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic Church cemetery in Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, Feb. 26 at the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home. A Biblical Wake will be 7:45 p.m. followed by a C.L.C. Memorial service today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Wyandot Memorial Hospital-Coronary Care Unit, or to Wyandot Co. Hospice, c/o Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P. O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Albert Osmus Jr.

Albert Osmus Jr., 78, of Elmsprings Home in Green Springs, died Tuesday, Feb. 25 2003, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Gibsonburg, to the late Albert and Irene (Thomas) Osmus.

There will private funeral services. Burial will be in Gibsonburg cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

The Engle-Young Funeral Home, in Green Springs, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lois Maybell Kollat

Lois Maybell Kollat, 80, formerly of CR 183 Clyde, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Arbors of Clyde.

She was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Ballville Township, to the late Willis and Mabel (Gnepper) Miller. She married Arthur Kollat in January of 1950. He died Aug. 23, 1995.

Surviving are: two brothers, Burdett "Bud" Miller and Eugene "Butch" Miller, both of Fremont; three sisters, Marian Martin of Oak Harbor, Kathryn Wilhelm of Fremont and Doris Klaustermeyer of Graytown.

The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Wm. Earl Hussey

Wm. Earl Hussey, 89, of 5384 CR 134, Sycamore, died 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky.

He was born March 10, 1913, in Tiffin, to the late Walter and Clara Maude (Montz) Hussey. He married Joyce (DeBolt) Everhart on Oct. 17, 1953 in Decatur, Indiana. She died Oct. 25, 2002.

Surviving are: a son, Mr. Jerry Everhart of rural Sycamore; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Marian) Babcock of Sycamore; three grandchildren, Mr. Michael Babcock of Sycamore, Mr. Kevin Babcock of Middletown; two great-grandchildren, Shaun Babcock and Erin Babcock, both of Middletown; a brother, Mr. Robert M. Hussey of Carey; three sisters, Mrs. Clara L. Lydey and Miss Mabel Hussey, both of Tiffin, and Mrs. Phyllis Simonis of Bradenton, Fla..

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Harry and Walter Hussey; and two sisters, Mary Angel and Edith Neikirk.

Mr. Hussey was a truck driver for Harley Forth Excavating in Sycamore. He also worked construction for F. E. Johnson and as a mechanic at Kappauf Chevrolet in Sycamore.

He attended the former Duenquat Lutheran Church. He was a life member of Mohawk Historical Society; member of Sycamore American Legion Post 250.

Mr. Hussey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a member of the Airborne Engineers and was a part of all four invasions during World War II. He was awarded a Bronze Star for Heroism in ground combat at Bastogne, Belgium on Dec. 25, 1944. He received a second Bronze Star Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritorious Achievement in ground operations against the enemy June 6, 1944 thru Jan. 22, 2945.

He was well known in Sycamore for being well supplied with bubble gum and candy for all the kids, and treats in his pocket for everyone's dog. The highlight of his whole life was his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also felt there was no greater honor for a man than to have served his country in the armed services.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Walter-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairhaven Community, Sycamore American Legion Ballfield or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Doris E. Beis

Doris E. Beis, 89, of 6902, CR 16, Sycamore, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at St. Francis Health Care Centre in Green Springs.

She was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Adrian, to the late Wallace and Lucille (Haines) Ruehle. She married Charles L. Beis on July 30, 1936. He died on May 25, 1995.

Surviving are: a son, Mr. Robert and Sandra Beis of rural Sycamore; four daughters, Mrs. William (Della) Chong of Columbus, Mrs. Donna Zeiter of Fort Meyers, Fla., Mrs. Verle (Helen) Spitler of rural Tiffin, and Mrs. James (Betty) Rhoden of Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Dean Ruehle; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Williams; and a great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Beis was a homemaker and also helped her husband farm. She was a member of: Trinity United Church of Christ in McCutchenville; OES Chapter 196 in Mccutchenville; past matron of the Chapter, past deputy of District 10 of the Eastern Stars; Literary Club in Sycamore; PRS Club in Carey; and former member of Sycamore Little Theatre Club.

Mrs. Beis was a graduate of Carey High School. She like to work in her flower garden and crochet.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home in Sycamore, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery in Sycamore.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at the funeral home. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, Wyandot County Heart Support Group, or Mohawk Community Library.

Ronald J. Rish

Ronald J. Rish, 56, of Jackson Township 19368 TR 71, Forest, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 22, 1947, in Kenton, to the late Paul E. and Donna A. (March) Rish. He married Janice A. Russell on Aug. 23, 1975, in Bucyrus. She survives.

Also surviving are: a brother, Wayne P. Rish and his wife Sandy of Bucyrus; a sister, Mrs. David (Nancy) Grossman of Mt. Gilead; many nieces and nephews and two great-nieces.

Mr. Rish attended Marseilles and Forest Elementary Schools and graduated from Riverdale High School in 1965. He attended Bluffton College where he received his B.A. degree and did his graduate work at Bowling Green University. Mr. Rish taught chemistry and physics, retiring in February 2002, after 33 years. He started his career at Pandora Gilboa and then taught at Bucyrus, Riverdale and Tiffin Calvert. Then he worked for the Hardin County Juvenile Court System. Mr. Rish then became Kenton City Schools alternate school coordinator.

The co-founder of SAVE, Mr. Rish was a member of the Ohio Family Farm Coalition, McCutchenville Grange 7th degree and Wyandot Tracer Genealogy. He was also on the zoning board for Jackson Township and was on the Democratic Central Committee for Jackson Township.

His enjoyment was riding his bicycle and had ridden from Lake Erie to Lima, Cincinnati, Bucyrus and Tiffin, with an estimation of 40,000 miles. He took daily walks of 2 to 4 miles. He enjoyed reading about history and doing math problems and did the daily Cryptoquote in the newspaper and the crossword puzzles. Mr. Rish loved his dogs and cats; did vegetable gardening and made his own sauerkraut. He also enjoyed cooking and canning, hunting arrowheads and Indian artifacts. He loved the farm, the outdoors and nature.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Steve Umphress officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Wyandot County or the American Cancer Society, in care of Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351.

Ethel Marie Thomas

Ethel Marie Thomas, 93, formerly of Stadium Drive, Fostoria, resident of St. Catherine's Care Center in Fostoria, died at 8:47 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at St. Catherine's.

She was born Aug. 10, 1909, in Allen County, to the late David and Florence (Hattery) Crist. She married Charles T. Thomas on Aug. 15, 1927, in Allen County. He died March 12, 1978.

Surviving are: a daughter, Marvine Hammer of Fostoria; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Crist of Wapakoneta and Bert Crist of Findlay; and two sisters, Lova Brandeberry of Bloomdale and Jane Rier of Wapakoneta.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Richard 'Dick' G. Pelton

Richard "Dick" G. Pelton, 66, of 3125 Bays Road, Risingsun, died at 9:22 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 25, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 8, 1936, in Bloomdale, to Gilbert E. and Celesta (Baker) Pelton. He married Suzanne Kreais on July 27, 1957, in St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria. She survives in Risingsun.

Also surviving are: his father, Gilbert E. Pelton of Risingsun; a son, Richard Guy Pelton II of Fostoria; four daughters, Suzette Marie Pelton of Bowling Green, Rebecca Jane Kline of Hoytville, Kathleen Laura Pelton of Dayton and Jennifer Gillig II of Fostoria; a granddaughter; a brother, Louis A. Pelton of Eastlake; three sisters, Ann Sheeks of North Baltimore, Donna Barker of Sylvania and Ruthie Beck of Findlay.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, where a Rosary will be prayed at 8:30 p.m.

Ray R. Wentz

Ray R. Wentz, 81, formerly of 113 W. North St., Vanlue, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Good Samaritan of Arlington, where he has resided for the past two years.

He was born on April 16, 1921, in Richland Township, Wyandot Co., to the late Walter V. and Hazel E. (Moser) Wentz. He married Clara E. Dougherty on July 7, 1965. She died on Dec. 7, 1965.

Surviving are: a step-son, William W. Nichols of Warner Robins, Ga. and a step-daughter, Linda Wentling of Perrysburg; five step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce V. Wentz of Arlington, Ohio.

Mr. Wentz was a World War II U.S Army Air Corp. veteran.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by local veterans' organizations.

Visitation will be 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Aubrey Janel Turner

Aubrey Janel Turner, stillborn, at 7:08 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

Surviving are: her parents, David E. Jr. and Jessica A. (Young) Turner of Fostoria; a brother at home, Austin Jacob Turner; maternal grandparents, Kyle and Cheryl Young of Fostoria; paternal grandparents David E. Sr. and Sharon Turner of Findlay; maternal great-grandmothers, Violet Young and Joan Seel, both of Fostoria.

Private services will be at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home in Fostoria. Burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Ruth A. Hotelling

Ruth A. Hotelling, 55 formerly of 578 West St., Carey, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 25, 2003, at Wyandot Manor in Upper Sandusky.

She was born on June 6, 1947, in Tiffin, to the late Kenneth L. and Maybelle K. (Risner) Logsdon. She married Thomas F. Hotelling on Aug. 24, 1968, in Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. He died on Nov. 11, 2000.

Surviving are: a son, Aaron T. Hotelling of Upper Sandusky; a daughter, Dana J. Hotelling of Carey; five grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Logsdon and Jerry Logsdon, both of Carey; six sisters, Juanita Welly, Janice Welly, and Mary Garner, all of Fostoria, Martha Mullholand, and Carol Pfeiffer, both of Carey.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation will be 1:30-3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
