Faith E. Crabtree

Faith E. Crabtree, 84, formerly of the Elizabeth Schaefer Hall, 190 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in the Craven Regional Medical Center, New Bern, N.C.

She was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Riga, Mich., to the late Dale Sr. and Dorothy (Bowen) Lewis. Her husband, Burnice "Darrel" Crabtree, whom she married Nov. 5, 1938, in Kentucky, died Sept. 6, 1990.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Sharon) Eichman of New Bern and Mrs. William (Sara) Laibe of Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Carrie Eichman of New Bern, Phillip Laibe of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Nick (JoAnn) Klak of Rochester, Mich., Dr. Darrel Eichman of Greenville, S.C. and Sherry Laibe of Columbus; a great-grandchild, Nicholas Klak; three brothers, Dale Lewis of Tiffin, Ralph Lewis of Winter Garden, Fla. and Donald Lewis of Cincinnati; and two sisters Mrs. Walter (Ruth) Kohlenberg of Fremont and Mrs. Duane (Janet May) Kerschner of Topeka, Kan.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Ann Crabtree and a sister, Mary Seiler.

Mrs. Crabtree, a graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Ohio University, was employed as a kindergarten teacher for 23 years at Krout Elementary School. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tiffin; Trinity United Methodist Church, New Bern, P.E.O. in both Toledo and New Bern; Tiffin AAUW, Mother's Circle and Delta Delta Fine Youth.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, with the Rev. Laurie Hill officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today, Feb. 28, at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ or a charity of the donor's choice.

Michael J. Huth

Michael J. Huth, 42, of Tiffin, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 26, 2003 in the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, following a lengthy illness. He was born Oct. 20, 1960 to James R. and the late Della Huth. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Christine S. Fritz.

Also surviving include: a son, Garrett Michael Huth of Aurora; two daughters, Bridgette Therese Huth, and Brianna Rochelle Huth, both of Aurora; two step-daughters, Mrs. Holly Melick of Tiffin, and Mrs. Lisa Zaayer of Somerton, OH.; a sister, Mrs. Joyce Heinzerling of Sandusky; and two granddaughters, Alysia and Caitlyn Melick.

Graveside Services for the family at 10 a.m. Monday, in the Calvary cemetery, Sandusky.

Visitation hours are from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003 in the Quick-Park & Pfeil Funeral Home, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.

Lila M. (Haas) Allan

Lila M. (Haas) Allan, 73, of CR 108, Fremont, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at home.

She was born Oct. 9, 1929, in Lindsey to Glendale and Margaret (Anstead) Haas. They are deceased. She married Ronald "Chick" L. Allan in August of 1950 in Grace Lutheran Church, and he survives in Fremont.

Other survivors include: two sons, Brent Allan of Fremont, and Ron Allan of Crystal River, Fla.; two daughters, Cindy Weickert of Tiffin, and Amy Simerly of Inverness, Fla.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Glendale "Salty" Haas of Fremont.

She was a 1947 graduate of Fremont Ross High School; a homemaker; and a member of the Auxiliary to VFW Post 2947 where she was the secretary. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, in St. John Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in Lindsey cemetery, Lindsey.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home, Fremont, where a VFW Auxiliary Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Memorial Hospital.

Marguerite N. Harnden

Marguerite N. Harnden, 105, formerly of CR 236, Clyde, died Feb. 28, 2003, at Arbors of Clyde.

She was born Feb. 15, 1898, in Clyde to George S. and Viola (Neikirk) Taylor. She married Ralph B. Harnden on Oct. 15, 1920, and he died June 30, 1967.

Five grandchildren survive.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Clyde Christian Church, South Main St., Clyde. Interment will follow in Bakertown cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Michael J. Huth

Michael Joseph Huth, 42, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003.

He was born Oct. 20, 1960, to James R. and Della Huth. An award-winning artist and graphic designer, he was a graduate of Sandusky High School and Terra Community College, and attended Bowling Green State University.

In addition to his father, James, of Ocala, Fla., he is survived by his wife, Christine Shriver Huth; son, Garrett Michael Huth of Aurora; twin daughters, Bridgette Therese and Brianna Rochelle Huth of Aurora; stepdaughters, Holly (Matt) Melick of Tiffin and Lisa (Tom) Zaayer of Somerton; two granddaughters, Alysia Marie and Caitlyn Christine Melick; and a sister, Joyce (Brian) Heinzerling of Sandusky.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Della, and brother, Patrick.

The Rev. David Griffis of Living Word Fellowship will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the Quick-Park and Pfeil Funeral Home, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m., prior to the service.

Graveside services for the family will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, in the Calvary cemetery, Sandusky.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, 158 W. 29th St., Seventh Floor, New York, NY 10001-5300.

Marguerite C. Jacob

Marguerite C. "Tiny" Jacob, 76, formerly of 6784 SH 199, Upper Sandusky, died at 10:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Carey to Fred and Gladys (Yingling) Bakies and they are both deceased. She married Coy Druckemiller Sr. July 18, 1947, and he died March 15, 1979. She then married Vincent R. Jacob in September of 1982 and he died May 21, 1994.

Survivors include: Coy Druckemiller Jr. of Attica, Mrs. Bill (Delilah) Volsch of Upper Sandusky, Mrs. Jeff (Helen) Kuhlman of Findlay, Mrs. Russell (Janice) Leiter of Carey, Frederick "Fritz" Druckemiller of New London, Patricia Dible of Carey, and Juliana Niederkohr of Upper Sandusky; three step-sons, Barry Druckemiller of Lima, Ron Jacob of Russell Point, and Wayne Jacob of Toledo; three step-daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Cheryl) Miller of Elida, Cheryl Newcomer of Carey, and Janet DiSimone of Marion; 41 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald "Bud" Bakies of Toledo, and Richard Bakies of Tiffin; and two sisters, Pauline Kitzler and Janice Hill both of Carey.

She was also preceded in death by three grandchildren; three brothers, William, Francis and Joseph "Jack" Bakies; and a sister, Rita Veres.

She was a 1944 graduate of Carey High School, a homemaker and an avid bingo player. She was a member of Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation of Carey, the VFW Post 3759, American Legion Post 344 and Eagles Auxiliaries all in Carey. She also bowled in many leagues in Carey.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2003, in Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey, with the Rev. Leo Kennedy OFM Conv. Interment will follow in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, where a VFW Auxiliary Memorial Service will be at 6:30 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County or Wyandot County Nursing Home Activity Fund c/o funeral home.

Vernon L. Kin

Vernon L. Kin, 73, of 703 Village View Acres, Upper Sandusky, where he has lived for the past 21 years, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

He was born Sept. 26, 1929, in Jackson Township, Kirby, to the late Emmit and Blanche (Logsdon) Kin. His wife, Alvera M. (Clouse) Kin, whom he married July 29, 1950, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Ronald J. Kin of Toledo, Wayne V. and Daryl E. Kin, both of Carey; a daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Kayleen) Hoover of Tiffin; nine grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Sylvester (Evelyn) Jesko and Mrs. Leo (Doloris) Vaughn, both of Carey.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, Edmund, Clarence, Floyd, Nelson, James and Vincent and a sister, Mary C. Willis.

Mr. Kin had been a farmer; worked at Swan Rubber in Carey and retired from Uni Grip Inc., Upper Sandusky, as a tool and die maker.

A member of St. Peter Catholic Church and K of C 2050, Upper Sandusky, he enjoyed wood working, word search puzzles, conversing with family and friends, fishing, playing pool and euchre.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, in St. Peter Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Holmer officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Catholic cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. A Biblical wake service will be at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic School or a charity of the donor's choice.

Richard Louis Hayward

Richard Louis Hayward, 85, of 276 Ohio Ave., Tiffin, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Ruffing Family Care Center in Tiffin.

He was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Tiffin, to the late Robert W. and Clara B. (Schetter) Hayward. He married Margaret Jane (Shedenhelm) Hayward Jan. 22, 1938, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. She died Aug. 28, 1993.

Surviving are: a daughter, Phyllis Zender of Tiffin; a sister, Gertrude Peusey of Tiffin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The body has been cremated. Private family services and burial will take place at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Eva B. Swope

Eva B. Swope, 90, formerly of 5975 N. SR 53, Tiffin, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, March 2, 2003, in the Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin, where she resided.

She was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Tiffin, to the late John E. and Hannah (Grossman) Duffey. Her husband, Charles D. Swope, whom she married March 24, 1940, in the First Lutheran Church, survives in Fort Seneca.

Other survivors include: three children, Ann C. (Swope) Scullion of Sylvania; C. David and Eileen (Sappah) Swope of Waretown, N.J. and John E. and Karen (Mitson) Swope of Tiffin; eight grandchildren, Christine L. Scullion of San Diego, Calif., Matthew A. Scullion of Salt Lake City, Utah, Andrew D. Scullion of Hawaii, Nancy A. (Swope) and David Black of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Christopher T. and Jessica (Sandham) Swope of New York City, N.Y.; Aaron C., Amy L. and Jamison A. Swope, all of Tiffin; and a niece, Amy J. (Russell) Lamson of Fremont.

A sister, Nina Russell, also is deceased.

Eva B. Swope graduated from Columbian High School, class of 1930. She attended Heidelberg College for one year and then entered Robinwood Hospital School of Nursing, Toledo (now St. Luke's Hospital). She graduated with honor (cum laude) in 1934 and was granted the opportunity to return for an additional year of training and to serve as a nursing instructor. She did a great deal of special duty nursing at Mercy Hospital as well as the surrounding Tiffin area.

After her marriage, her interests turned mainly toward caring for her family and grandchildren although she continued to lend nursing assistance in the local community.

A life-long member of the First Lutheran Church, Tiffin, she was a member of Robinwood (St. Luke's) Nursing Alumni Association and also the Tiffin area Nurses' Club.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Margaret M. Marks officiating. Private burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

There will be no visitation. The Turner-Engle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Louisa Ann Mowery-Fox

Louisa Ann Mowery-Fox, infant daughter, died on Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Surviving are: her parents, Brandon M. Fox and Jeanette L. Mowery, both of Tiffin; two brothers, Isiah and Dylan Mowery, at home; maternal grandparents, Brenda and Norman Mowery of Tiffin; paternal grandparents, Mike and Peg Fox of Bloomville; great-grandparents, Arlie and Dolly Ragle, Gene and Carolyn Hoover, and Loretta Fox, all of Tiffin.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ralph Scherger, Norman and Diana Mowery, and Bill Fox.

Private graveside service will be Thursday, March 6 with the Rev. John Halstead officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Madeline L. Van Horn

Word has been received of the death of Tiffin native, Madeline Lavonne Van Horn, 81, who died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Lake Andes Health Care Center, Lake Andes, S.D.

She was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Tiffin, to the late Wilbur Lloyd and Edith Rebecca (Eakin) Fox. Her husband, Kenneth Irvin Van Horn, whom she married March 14, 1942, is deceased.

Surviving are five children: Keith of Ozawkie, Kan.; Mrs. Gary (Sharron) Grider of Harrah, Okla.; John Van Horn of McKinney, Texas; Mrs. Doug (JoAnne) Fraunfelder of Marshall, Minn. and Mrs. Tim (Dian) Dupic of Toledo, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Kuhn of Tiffin and Phyllis Shumway of Sarasota, Fla.

A brother and four sisters also are deceased.

Services were at the Clausen Funeral Home and interment was in Graceland cemetery, both of Burke, S.D.

Virgil 'Jr.' Gibson

Word has been received of the death of Virgil "Jr." Gibson, 57, of 658 N. Vine St., Somerset, Ky., formerly of Republic.

He was born Nov. 29, 1945, in Day Ridge, Ky., to the late Henry Isaac and Ruby (Perry) Gibson.

Surviving are two sons, Brian Gibson of Whitley City, Ky. and Eric Gibson of Tiffin; three step-sons, Jimmy, Earnie and Joe Vaughn, all of Whitley City; a daughter, Heather Ratlift of Tiffin; a step-daughter, Angel Emily of Tiffin; five grandchildren; three brothers, Wendle Gibson of Tiffin and Roger and Andy Gibson, both of Republic; and three sisters, Anna Ruth Williams of Eubank, Ky., Mary Bowman of Somerset and Evelyn Seibert of Republic.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services are pending at the Lange and New Brothers Funeral Home, Somerset.

Arthur E. Pethe

Arthur E. Pethe, 74, of 461 E. Tiffin St., Fostoria, died at 12:17 a.m. Monday morning, March 3, 2003, at his daughter's residence in Lima.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1929, in Seneca County, to the late Cletus and Rose (Thom) Pethe. He married Rickie A. Pethe on Dec. 27, 1953, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Findlay. She died June 27, 2001.

Surviving are: two sons, Timothy M. Pethe of Fostoria and Kelly A. Pethe of Corpus Christi, Texas; three daughters, Kim Heckathorn of Fostoria, Tobie Reese and Natalie Lord, both of Lima; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Carpenter of Michigan and Marjorie Ehman of Canada.

Mr. Pethe was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, where a Rosary will be prayed at 12:40 p.m. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Parish cemetery with military honors by the New Riegel American Legion.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.Tuesday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will take place at 7 p.m., and a New Riegel American Legion Memorial Service at 8 p.m.

Max M. McCormick

Max M. McCormick of Sun City, Ariz., died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Sun City.

He was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Hicksville, to William Floyd and Grace Joy (Johnston) McCormick. He married Justine McCormick and she survives in Sun City, Ariz.

Also surviving are: four sons, Greg of Indiana, Chris of Arizona, Mark and Kent of Michigan; a daughter, Carol of Texas; seven grandchildren; a brother Donald of Ohio; and two sisters, Evelyn of Indiana and Leta of Arizona.

Private services were held.

Engle Funeral Homes in Bettsville are in charge of local arrangements.
