Athena D. West

Athena D. West, 86, formerly of TR 165, Tiffin, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Heartland of Perrysburg, Perrysburg, Ohio.

She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Turner, Maine, to the late Harold and Velva (Austin) Quimby. On April 8, 1946, in Portland, Maine, she married Donald J. West. He died Dec. 11, 1989.

Surviving are a daughter, Sandra (David) Hammer of Perrysburg; two grandchildren, Scott Michael Hammer of Holland and Brian Lee Hammer of Perrysburg; a great-grandson, Brendan James Hammer of Holland; two brothers, Carl Quimby of Portland, Maine and Gene Quimby, also of Maine; and a sister, Barbara Haskell of Kingston, N.H.

Four brothers, Eldred, Raymond, Ivan and Wendell Quimby, also preceded her in death.

A homemaker, Mrs. West had previously worked at Tiffin Glass; was a custodian at Columbian High School and the General Electric.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Tiffin.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 15 at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-3113.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Diabetes Association in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Eugene H. Werling

Eugene H. Werling, 78, of 22 Glenview Terrace, Tiffin, died at home on Wednesday evening, March 12, 2003.

He was born August 3, 1924 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to the late Raymond and Lydia (Schmidt) Werling. His first wife Joan (Sheets) Werling died August 14, 1982. Deceased also was a son David who died July 26, 1982. His second wife Lue (Lather) Werling whom he married on June 27, 1984, died November 3, 1999.

Surviving are: a daughter, Paula Phillips of Terre Haute, IN.; a son, Henry Werling of Waverly, IA; two step-daughters, Karyne Carey of Mansfield, OH and Lynda Montgomery of Cincinnati, OH.; a step-son, Kenneth Lather of Findlay, OH.; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Werling was a retired General Electric Company plant manager with 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a very active member of First Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at First Lutheran Church with The Rev. Richard Hofmann officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before and after the service at the church. Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Gardens, Fort Wayne, IN.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church Special Project Fund or to a charity of the donor's choice. No flowers are requested.

Glen A. Carolus

Glen A. Carolus, 60, of Norwalk, died at 7:22 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in Firelands Hospital. He was born April 30, 1942 to the late Melvin and Rosella (Keel) Carolus. He first married Diana (Conrad) Hill Carolus, she survives in Tiffin, his second wife was Sherry Gadke, she preceded him in death.

Also surviving include: a son, Jason Carolus of Sandusky; two daughters, Tonya (Carolus) Santiago, and Crystal (Carolus) Dales, both of Tiffin; a half-brother, Jim Carolus of Des Moines, IA; two half-sisters, Pamela Harvey of Runnels, IA, and Sherry Slaughter of Queens City, MO; and nine grandchildren.

There are no services. Burial will be private for family.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Dorothy E. Black

Dorothy E. Black, 86, 2727 E. TR 122, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. Arrangements are pending at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Edna M. Krupp-Smith

Edna M. "Enny" Krupp-Smith, 89, of Fostoria, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at her residence. She was born Nov. 14, 1913 in Fostoria to the late Albert and Verna (Myers) Krupp.

Survived by: two brothers, Virgil "Butch" Krupp of Fostoria, and Ralph Krupp of Tuscaloosa, AL; a sister-in-law, Pauline Kuhn of Fostoria; nieces and nephews.

Services 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial at St. Wendelin Parish cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Harold H. Sensabaugh

Harold H. Sensabaugh, 70, of N. Countyline St., Fostoria, died at 9:55 a.m. in his home Thursday, March 13, 2003. He was born to the late Ralph and Florence (Snoffer) Sensabaugh.

Surviving include: a son, Ralph Sensabaugh of Fostoria; two daughters, Bobbi Sensabaugh of Haskins, and Helen Sensabaugh of Toledo; a brother, Paul Sensabaugh of W. VA; a sister, Janet Wolfe of Hanover, MI; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Sensabaugh was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Graveside services at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at Wood County Memorial Gardens near Bowling Green. Military honors by the Joint Veterans Group of Fostoria.

Visitation will be private. Services handled by Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Marilyn M. Werling

Marilyn M. Werling, 66, of 530 Miami St., Tiffin, and also Harlingen, Texas, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003 in Harlingen Medical Center, TX. She was born April 15, 1936 in Tiffin to the late Carl S. and Margaret A. (Siebenaller) Bish. On October 29, 1955 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin she married Eugene J. Werling, and he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Thomas E. Werling of Ft. Worth, TX, and Gary J. Werling of Perrysburg; a daughter, Cynthia A. Kirchner of Tiffin; three brothers, Carl E. Bish of Pensacola, Fla., Charles E. Bish and Lester L. Bish, both of Tiffin; a half-brother, Paul Bish of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Janet A. Robenalt of Tiffin, and Barbara J. Leirer of Panama City, Fla.; a half-sister, Evelyn Holt of Tiffin; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin. Burial at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation hours are from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Phillis C. Hill

Phillis C. Hill, 62, of 5380 S. State Ford Rd., Underwood, Ind., died Tuesday, March 11, 2003. She was born July 15, 1940 to the late Richard and Martha (Patrick) Fletcher. On Feb. 14, 1985 she married Ronald E. Hill, and he survives.

Also surviving include: three sons, Jerry Sopher of Bucyrus, Bob Sopher of Michigan Center, MI., and Steve Sopher of Nevada; two daughters, Christina Sopher, and Lisa Kelbey, both of Carey; two step-sons, Clyde Hill of Branenburg, KY, and John Hill of Forest, OH: two brothers, Darrell Fletcher of St. Louis, MO, and Garland Fletcher of Chelsea, MI.; two sisters, Jean Rohrbaugh of Chelsea, MI, and Janet Osbourn of Stockbridge, MI.; and 12 grandchildren.

Services 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Walton Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. Burial at Pleasant View cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 5-9 p.m., tonight, at the funeral home.

Paul Henry Kuhn

Paul Henry Kuhn, 39 Main St., Tiffin, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 24, 1921, in Seneca County to Henry and Myrtle (Kuhn) Kuhn.

Surviving are: two sons, Robert (Patricia) Kuhn of Tiffin and David (Debra) Kuhn of Fostoria; four daughters, Mrs. Peter (Ruth) Gallagher of Fostoria, Mrs. Joseph (Sheila) Kromer of Bloomdale, Mrs. Scott (Linda) Heiden of Michigan, and Mrs. Paul G. (Theresa) Williams of Fostoria; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Evelyn Kimmet of Tiffin and Alice Hammer of Fostoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Myrtle Kuhn; a daughter, Betty Jean Kuhn; a grandson, Daniel Kuhn; two sisters, Florence Romich and Dorothy Boes; and a brother, Richard Kuhn.

Mr. Kuhn was a pipeline worker and member of Local 798 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Tulsa, Okla. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bascom.

The Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, where a Rosary will be prayed at 9:40 a.m. The Rev. Art Niewiadomski is officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery in Bascom.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Hoening Funeral Home in Fostoria (419-435-8200) and also 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A Christian Wake service will be at 8:45 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Sister M. Thomas Kill

Sister M. Thomas Kill, 74, of the Sisters of St. Francis, Tiffin, died at 7:03 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 2003, in St. Francis Convent, Tiffin.

She was born July 6, 1928, in Akron, to Eugene and Rosalia B. (Gengler) Kill.

Surviving are: her mother, Rosalia Kill; a brother, the Rev. Robert J. Kill of Cloverdale; a sister, Sister Marietta Kill, member of the Tiffin Franciscan Community.

Preceding her in death was her father, Eugene Kill.

Sister Thomas was received into the Order on August 12, 1946, professed her First Vows on Aug. 12, 1948, and her Final Vows on Aug. 12, 1951.

She attended the College of St. Francis in Joliet, Ill. Sister Thomas was a teacher from 1949 to 1965 at New Washington, Edgerton, Carey, Miller City and Blakeslee, and was music teacher and director at the Motherhouse from 1966 to 1972. From 1967 to 1981 she was director of the St. Francis School of Music. From 1982 to 1987 she taught music in Maggie Valley, N.C., and then returned to Tiffin in 1988 to resume duties as music teacher at the St. Francis School of Music. Sister Thomas had been retired since 2000, but still helped at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Tiffin and the Pilgrim House in Carey.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in St. Francis Convent Chapel, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin. Officiating will be her brother, the Rev. Robert J. Kill. Burial will be in St. Francis Convent cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 17, at the Convent Chapel. A wake service will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

Neil E. Vogt

Neil E. Vogt, 78, of 1036 S. SR 4, Attica, died Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2003, in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital of Willard.

He was born March 21, 1924, in Reed Township, to Charles and Louise (Schreck) Vogt. On Sept. 8, 1945, he married Ruth G. Keller in Attica. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sons: Paul (Anita) Vogt of Hilliard and Dennis (Jackie) Vogt of Chillicothe; two grandchildren, Brian Vogt of Hilliard and Stephanie Vogt of Chillicothe; and a sister, Donna (Richard) Miller of Attica.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Vogt.

Mr. Vogt was a motor vehicle inspector for the Ohio State Patrol, retiring in March of 1989. He was also a former meat cutter for the IGA store in Attica.

Mr. Vogt was a member of the Attica United Methodist Church, a 1942 graduate of Attica High School, a life member of the American Legion Post 260 in Attica, a member of the Good Sams Club, and a World War II Army veteran, belonging to the 87th Troop Carrier Squadron 438th Troop Carrier Group.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Attica United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thom Kalb officiating. The American Legion will conduct a military service at the church. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Monday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19 in Bloomville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica United Methodist Church, the Seneca East Public Library, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dorothy E. Black

Dorothy E. Black, 86, of 2727 E. TR 122, Tiffin, died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Oct. 10, 1916, in Tiffin, to Louis and Clara (Fey) Seislove. She married Hestor F. Black in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin on July 3, 1937. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2000.

Surviving are two sons, William L. Black of Perrysburg, and Gary L. (Sharon) Black of Tiffin; four grandchildren, Shelley, Greg, Doug and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jonathan, and Nathan; three brothers, Kenneth Seislove, Richard Seislove and Donald Seislove, all of Tiffin.

Preceding her in death were three brothers, Ralph, Wayne and Howard Seislove, and a sister, Helen Payment.

She was a 1934 graduate of Calvert High School and a homemaker. Mrs. Black was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

She enjoyed traveling and camping across the country. Crocheting, word puzzles, playing cards and baking cookies were her enjoyments in life. Mrs. Black also provided child care for the Y-Wives at the bowling alley.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Murd officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic cemetery at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

A Rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Thursday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Care, St. Mary Catholic Church, or to the charity of the donor's choice in care of Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, OH 44883 (419) 447-3113.

Orpha L. Fraley

Orpha L. (Creeger) Fraley, 95, of Autumnwood Care Center, formerly of 371 Benner St., Tiffin, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born May 30, 1907, in Hopewell Township to Ross and Susie B. (King) Creeger.

She married Myrlen J. Fraley, who preceded her in death on June 28, 1991.

Surviving are: a son Gerald J. Fraley of Jamestown, R.I.; a daughter, Marjorie E. Cochran (Wylie) of Springfield; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ross and Susie Creeger; a son, Eugene E. Fraley; a great-grandson; five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Fraley was a homemaker. She was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Autumnwood Care Center Auxiliary.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Hayward officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery in Old Fort.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 17, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Kizzie Mae Martin

Kizzie Mae Martin, 85, of 2320 W. CR 6, Tiffin, Ruffing Family Care Center, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Sugar Grove, N.C., to the late Rev. E.J. and Lula (Green) Farthing. She married Henry M. Martin Jr. in Athens, Ala., on Feb. 2, 1946. They were married for more than 57 years. He survives.

Also surviving are: a son, Milton (Susie) Martin of Fresno, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Becky) Shaver of Tiffin; a brother, Edmund (Hazel) Farthing of Sugar Grove, N.C.; three sisters, Alpha Perry of Mebane, N.C., Lennis Efstation of Burnsville, N.C., and Mrs. Oran (Jodie) Dugger of Burnsville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Cliff Adams, Jenny Citty, Blaine Martin and Matt Shaver; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Adams, Jimmy Citty and Kizzie Citty.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and a brother, Blaine Farthing.

Mrs. Martin was a high school graduate and completed two years of business school. She worked on the atomic bomb at Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home with Jim Martin officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ruffing Family Care Center of Tiffin; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
