Betty J. Biddle
Ex-Cello Co. retiree

Betty J. Biddle, 75, of West Lytle Street, Fostoria, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, 1998, at her home.

She was born March 1, 1923, in McComb, to Charles and Laila (Morrison) Rahrig. Her husband, Carl F. Biddle, whom she married July 6, 1946, in Fostoria, died May 10, 1979.

Surviving are: a son, Robert Biddle of Wadsworth; a daughter, Mrs. William (Linda) Price of Toledo; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Charles Rahrig of Fostoria.

A sister, Virgene Barkley, is deceased.

A 1941 graduate of Fostoria High School, Mrs. Biddle retired in 1983 from the Ex-Cello Co. in Fostoria after 30 years of employment.

She was a member of the ladies auxiliaries of the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Eagles and AMVETS, all of Fostoria. She also was an avid fisherman on Lake Erie.

The Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite will conduct the 2:30 p.m. Friday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be in Memory Gradens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the funeral home is 7-9 p.m. today.

Francis W. Wilson
Former Green Springs resident

Francis W. Wilson of Port Charlotte, Fla., formerly of Green Springs, died in Florida. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs.

Other arrangements are pending.

Mary Lou Fey
Former Developmental Center supervisor

Mary Lou Fey, 69, 353 Greenfield Ave., died at 10:34 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

She was born in Tiffin, July 22, 1929, to the late George Allen and Florence E. (Matthews) Bartlebaugh. On Nov. 17, 1959, in Amsden, she married Walter C. Fey. He died June 24, 1996.

Survivors include: four sons, Fred Moon of Tiffin, Calvin Moon of Olgesby, Ill., Frank Moon of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla. and David Moon of Findlay; three step-sons, Paul E. Fey of Tiffin, Larry Fey of Frankfort, Ky. and Howard Fey of Clarkville, Tenn.; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Susan) Wise of Tiffin; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren;.

Four sisters and three brothers are deceased.

Mrs. Fey, a member of the First Baptist Church, had been employed as a supervisor for 15 years at the Tiffin Developmental Center.

A 1947 graduate of Columbian High School, she enjoyed painting, crafts, clogging, square dance calling and playing the piano.

Services in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Al Wilkes officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Dorothy M. Hollar
Fostoria Ford Plant retiree

Dorothy M. Hollar, 95, formerly of 100 Tomb St., where she had lived for 62 years, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, in St. Catherine's, Fostoria.

She was born at the family home at 65 Coe St., May 27, 1903, to William V. and Jessie F. (Feightner) Boroff. She married Calvin Hollar, Aug. 7, 1921, in Sycamore. He preceded her in death Aug. 31, 1963.

Surviving are: a son, William Robert "Bob" Hollar of Maumee; two daughters, Mrs. Hovey (Wanda) Luman and Mrs. John (Gail) Correll, both of Tiffin; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Benjamin (Addah Mae) Kight of Springfield, Mrs. Louis (Geraldine) Ferstler of Tiffin and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary Belle) Mooney of Clyde.

An infant daughter, a grandson, and a great-grandson are deceased.

Mrs. Hollar retired from the Ford Plant in Fostoria after 25 years of employment.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Afternoon Birthday Club, Royal Neighbors of America-Camp 6708, Ladies Auxiliary of Tiffin Eagles and Tiffin Women of the Moose.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home, with the Rev. David C. Mills officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church, St. Catherine's of Fostoria or the donor's choice.

Mable (Seiple) Smith
Retired bookkeeper/secretary

Mable (Seiple) Smith, 103, of 47 S. Marion St., Bloomville, died Tuesday evening, Aug. 4, 1998, in Harborside Healthcare, Broadview Heights.

She was born Aug. 2, 1895, in Bloom Township, Seneca County, to George W. and Ada M. (Griffin) Seiple. Her husband, Vernon D. Smith, whom she married Nov. 2, 1927, in Bloomville, died Oct. 25, 1946.

Surviving are: a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carol L. Smith of Broadview Heights; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Robert G. Smith, and four brothers, Jacob G., Maurice E., Herbert G. and Robert F. Seiple; are deceased.

A Bloomville native, Mrs. Smith and her husband owned and operated a stove sales and servicing store in Cleveland. After his death, she held various clerical positions, including bookkeeping and secretary to the director of the Cleveland Zoo, retiring to Bloomville in 1958 to care for her uncle.

An avid bridge player, she was a member of the Bloomville United Church of Christ, Luella Chapter 223 Order Eastern Star, Bloomville, the Bloomville No-Name Club and the Bloomville Dinner Club.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, in the new Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, with the Rev. Diane Grohmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Clara A. Fruth
Bascom resident

Clara A. Fruth, 95, of Bascom, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in St. Francis Home, where she had resided since March 15. Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Mary D. Cochenour
Caregiver

Former Kiwanis Manor resident Mary D. Cochenour, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in St. Francis Home. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Florence Virginia Phillips
Retired professor

Florence Virginia Phillips, 90, died at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, where she resided.

She was born in Zanesville, Sept. 5, 1907, to John W. and Martha (Davis) Phillips. She had never married .

A nephew and three nieces survive.

A brother, Robert Phillips, and two sisters, Ruth Lenner and Mabel Geisler, are deceased.

Miss Phillips, a retired professor, had been employed at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis.

She received a bachelor's degree from Muskingum of New Concord in 1931, graduated from Ohio State University in 1942 with a master's degree and in 1955 received a doctorate, also from the Ohio State University. She taught four years as an assistant instructor and for six years attended the Sorbonne in France.

Graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Gardens Memorial Park of Zanesville. The body has been cremated.

There will be no visitation. The Beach Funeral Home, Carey, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Beloit College, Beloit, Wis. or the Wyandot County Home Activity Department.

Marian E. Heilman
Homemaker/farming partner

Marian E. Heilman, 89, of 1368 CR 9, Fremont, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Saturday evening.

She was born in Sandusky County, Feb. 22, 1909, to Clarence "Tom" and Gladys (Speller) Gillmor. Her husband, Alvin Heilman, whom she married March 26, 1932, in Old Fort United Methodist Church parsonage, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Richard E. and Edward J. Heilman, both of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul M. Gillmor of Old Fort, Ernest "Bill" Gillmor of Green Springs and Ralph "Spiv" Gillmor of Fremont; and three sisters, Lola Fry of Tiffin, Margaret Drown of Fremont and Bernice Joseph of Bryan.

A granddaughter; a brother, Robert Gillmor; and a sister, Frances Witter, are deceased.

Mrs. Gillmor, a 1927 graduate of Old Fort High School, was a homemaker and partner, with her husband, in farming.

A life-long area resident, she was a member of Old Fort United Methodist Churchand its United Methodist Women.

The Rev. Jerry K. Wiles will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday service in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Margarete (Goettel) Hassmann
Mother of Tiffin resident

Margarete (Goettel) Hassmann, 81, of Mansfield, died early Saturday morning, Aug. 1, 1998, in the Heritage Care, Shelby, following a long illness.

She was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Tschervenka, Yugoslavia, to Daniel and Christine (Dech) Goettel. On Jan. 9, 1936, she married Karl Hassmann Sr. He died in 1995.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Trudi) Ward of Tiffin and Ann Greenfelder of Lexington; a son, Karl (Lilli) Hassmann Jr. of Mansfield; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sofia Goettel of Vienna, Austria.

Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.

Mrs. Hassman had lived in the Mansfield area since 1950.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Mansfield. The Rev. Gary Caudill will officiate. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Berniece Veronica Schetter
Rosa Street resident

Berniece Veronica Schetter, 89, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at her residence at 98 Rosa St. A funeral Mass is planned for Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where further arrangements are pending.

Bernice Maxine Miller
Former substitute mail carrier

Funeral services for Bernice Maxine Miller, 84, of 115 E. Walnut St., Attica, who died Thursday, July 30, 1998, in Altercare Nursing Home, Bucyrus, are 3 p.m. today in the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home, Attica, where visitation is 2-3 p.m. today. Pastor Terry Alverson of the First Baptist Church, Attica, will officiate. Burial will be in Benton Cemetry, Texas Township, Ohio. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Support Group of Crawford and Seneca Counties or the donor's favorite charity.

Frederick C. Yates
Retired Sealtest milkman

Frederick C. Yates, 87, of 2250 Canton Center Road, Canton, Mich., died Friday, July 31, 1998, in Garden City OsteopathicHospital, Garden City, Mich.

He was born in Perry Township, Wood County, April 6, 1911, to Josiah C. and Nebraska (Beaver Yates. On March 25, 1947, he married Estelle Lilliquist. She preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1982.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Terrence (Gretchen) Madick of Canton, Mich.; a brother Herbert Yates of West Unity, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Roxie Osterholt of Tucson, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Albert and Roy; and seven sisters, Mrs. Florence Iler, Mrs. Helen Lindower, Mrs. Laura Klotz, Mrs. Dorothy Kunkleman, Mrs. Mildred Carter, Mrs. Marie Connell and Mrs. Lou Shanks.

Mr. Yates, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, had been employed as a milkman for 27 years with Sealtest, retiring in 1973.

Services in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery, West Millgrove.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Richard O. Homan
Farmer/Whirlpool retiree

Richard O. Homan, 78, of North Woodland Ave., Clyde, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg.

He was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Dola, to Charles M. and Eunice Pearl (Gilbert) Homan. His wife, Mardelle Mae (Weller) Homan, whom he married Oct. 18, 1945, died in July 1990.

Survivors include: two daughters, Brenda P. Homan of Toledo and Mrs. Manual (Robin) Amezquita of Clyde; a son, Lonnie R. Homan of Toledo; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Two brothers, Warren M. and Roland L. Homan; an infant sister, Lois Homan; and his step-mother, Mary Inman Homan, are also deceased.

A 1937 graduate of Bellevue High School, Mr. Homan retired as a power truck driver in 1980, from Whirlpool Corp., Clyde, where he had been employed for 28 years. He also was retired from farming.

He was a member of the Christian Church of Clyde, Clyde VFW and Monroeville American Legion.

The Rev. Mary Jo Bray will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Clyde Christian Church. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery, Monroeville, where military graveside services will be conducted.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the church or the American Heart Association.
