Celestia P. 'Polly' Reiter
G.E. retiree/practical nurse

Celestia P. "Polly" Reiter, 83, formerly of North TR 165, Tiffin, died at 7:35 a.m. Monday, April 27, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria, where she resided.

She was born in Fostoria, Feb. 15, 1915, to Frederick and Viola P. (Bauman) Martin.

Surviving are a son, Nelson S. Bauman Jr. of Aberdeen, Md.; four daughters, Barbara Kreisher of West Millgrove, Mrs. Charles (Sondra) Raymo and Nancy Roberts, both of Monroe, Mich. and Linda Sipe of Fostoria; two brothers, Donald Martin of Burbank, Calif. and Fred Martin of Port Clinton; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Hill of Bascom; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Kenneth Bauman; a brother, Robert Martin; a sister, Margaret Hunker; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Reiter had worked as a licensed practical nurse in Monroe for 20 years, prior to moving to the Tiffin area. She then worked at the General Electric in Tiffin for 17 years, retiring in 1977.

Graveside services in Riverview cemetery, West Millgrove, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Mary Slaughterbeck officiating.

Visitation for the family will be private. The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Cory S. Woessner
Findlay student

Cory S. Woessner, 17, of Findlay, died at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 26, 1998, in St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born Sept. 10, 1980, in Fostoria, the son of Sam Hammons and Debra Woessner. His father survives in Fremont and his mother in Findlay.

Other survivors include: grandparents, Ralph Woessner of Lindsey and Betty Burton of Lima; four brothers, Sam Jr. and Raymond Hammons, both of Fremont, Russell Hammons of Clyde and Roy Hammons of Old Fort; six sisters, Patsy Estep of Port Clinton, Glady King and Heather Hammons, both of Fremont and Joan Miller, Maggie Knipp and Donna Miller, all of Clyde; numerous nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.

A sister, Christine Hammons, is deceased.

He was a student.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Thursday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Findlay Chapel, where services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Oak Wood cemetery, Fremont.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, 3480 N. Main St., P.O. Box 965, Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Sister Frances Ann Schismenos
Tiffin Franciscan sister

Sister Frances Ann Schismenos, 51, of 135 Vennum Ave., Mansfield, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at home, following a long illness.

Born August 13, 1946, in Akron, Ohio, to Leo and Dorothy Demko Schismenos, she became a professed religious sister of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Charity in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1965.

Survivors include: her mother, Dorothy Schismenos of Akron; two brothers, Lee and Joe Schismenos, both of Akron; two sisters, Mrs. Mike (Sally) Baumgardner of Dearborn Heights, Mich., and Joanie Schismenos of Lakewood, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Her father, Leo Schismenos, preceded her in death.

Sister Fran taught school from 1967-77 in Edgerton, Custar and New Washington, Ohio. She then became a Pastoral Associate and ministered in Holgate and Hamler, Ohio from 1977-87. Following a year of studies in Berkley, Calif., in 1987-88, she became a Pastoral Associate at St. Peter's Parish in Mansfield, where she continued ministering until the time of her death.

Father John Blaser will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Tiffin. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at St. Peters's Catholic Church, 54 S. Mulberry St., Mansfield, Ohio. In Tiffin, visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday at the convent on St. Francis Avenue, where wake services will be held at 7 p.m.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. May 2, 1998, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Mansfield, with Father Herb Weber officiating.

The Geiger-Herlihy Funeral Home in Mansfield and the Traunero Funeral Home in Tiffin are handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Earth Literacy Center in care of the Sisters of St. Francis, 200 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, or to the VNA Hospice, 188 W. Third St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902.

Orville F. Bentz
Brother of Tiffin woman

Orville F. Bentz of 691 Angela Drive, Fostoria, Ohio, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born in Seneca County to the late Ferdinand and Mary (Hoffbauer) Bentz, and he married Evelyn Mae Kinney Sept. 25, 1937, in Angola, Ind.

He is survived by: his wife Evelyn of Fostoria; a daughter, Mrs. Garry (Carol) Phelps of Fostoria; a granddaughter, Staci Phelps of Fostoria; and a sister, Anna Mae Randall of Tiffin.

A brother, Carl Bentz, preceded him in death.

Mr. Bentz worked for 28 years as a clerk at Ford Autolite, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Fostoria Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, and burial will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the Eagles will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to The Living Tree at Fostoria Community Hospital.

Rodney R. Stannard
Brother of Fostoria woman

Rodney R. Stannard, 47, of Wauseon, died Thursday morning, April 23, 1998, at the Toledo Hospital, where he had been a patient since Feb. 25, 1998.

He was born March 1, 1951, at Wauseon, the son of Calvin and Pauline (Seiler) Stannard. On Dec. 10, 1971, he married Vicki Miller, who survives.

Other survivors include: his mother, Pauline Stannard of Archbold; two sons, Eric and Jason Stannard of Fayette and Archbold, Ohio, respectively; a daughter, Nicole Stannard, at home; four grandchildren; a brother, Charles Stannard of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio; and two sisters, Sharon Stannard of Fostoria and Mrs. John (Jo Nell) Ott of South Bend, Ind.

His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Stannard was a 1969 graduate of Archbold High School and lived his lifetime in the Archbold/Wauseon area. He worked in the family business known as Country Side Creations. He was a member of the Evangelical Mennonite Chruch in Archbold, Defiance Moose Lodge and the Toledo Craftsman Guild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Archbold, with Pastor Matthew Boyers officiating. Interment will follow in the Archbold cemetery.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.- 9 p.m. Sunday at the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.

D. Franklin Tusing
Bloomville resident

D. Franklin Tusing, 78, of 34 Jefferson St., Bloomville, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at St. Catherine's Care Center, Bloomville, after an illness of several months.

Arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville.

Judy E. Swerlein
Retired St. Francis employee

Judy E. Swerlein, 55, of 296 1/2 Ohio Ave, Tiffin died at 8:10 a.m., Thursday, April 23, 1998. She was born in Tiffin to Harold R. and Florence (Zender) Kuhn. Her mother survives. She married Ronald Swerlein, and he passed away.

Survivors include: four sons, Todd Malone of Kissimmee, FL, Michael, Rex, and Chris Malone, all of Tiffin; a brother, Richard H. Kuhn of Tiffin; a sister, Sharon Gruss of Chicago, IL.; and three grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Swerlein attended Calvert High School. She was retired from St. Francis as a nurse's aide and was a former member of St. Mary's Church and the DAV.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date; a private burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery.

There will be no visitation. Arrangements will be handled by the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Fern L. (Cross) Pence
Fremont resident

Fern L. (Cross) Pence, 86, formerly of Woodland Ave., Fremont, and Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home, died on Tuesday, April 21, 1998. She was born June 03, 1911, in Bellefontaine to Charles L. and Ethel (Legg) Cross. On Nov. 14, 1930, she married Olen H. Pence. He died in February 1987.

Survivors include: four sons, Paul and Ronald Pence, both of Foley, Ala., Richard Pence of Macedonia, and Olen Pence Jr. of Fremont; five daughters, Jean Mann of Tiffin, Cintra Eshenberner of Akron, Barbara Gatton of Tiffin, Judy Bernard of Clyde, and Sharon Banister of Charlotte, N.C.; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Charles; a brother Charles Cross; and two sisters, Ada Willouby and Pauline Campbell

Mrs. Pence was a homemaker and an organist for the Church of God for more than 20 years. She also taught Sunday School for many years. A leader of the Sr. Citizen Band for 15 years, she represented the Sr. Citizens on the W.S.O.S. Board.

The Rev. Rob Breitigam will officiate the 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 1998 service at the Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Fremont.

Visitation hours are today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Ottawa County Riverview Nursing Home.

Sister Frances Ann Schismenos
Sister of St. Francis

Sister Frances Ann Schismenos, 51, of Sister of St. Francis, Tiffin died at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 1998. She resided in Mansfield where she worked at St. Peter's Church.

Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Anthony 'Tony' Steinberger
Retired farmer

Anthony J. "Tony" Steinberger, 81, of Fremont, died Monday morning, April 13, 1998, in Countryside Continuing Care Center.

He was born in Green Springs, Jan. 12, 1917, to William and Hilda (Riehl) Steinberger. His wife of 57 years, Florence (Ochs) Steinberger, whom he married Feb. 25, 1941, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Ruth Ann) Shively of Dublin, Ohio, and Mrs. Robert (Marigene) Bergefurd of Fremont; a brother, Alex Steinberger of Fremont; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

An infant son preceded him in death.

Mr. Steinberger, a Green Springs High School graduate, farmed his own land for 47 years until his retirement in 1982.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, and the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, and was a former member of the Old Fort Lions Club.

Services in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Nopper-Karlovetz Mortuary, Fremont, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where a Christian Wake service will be at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Robert Neal Fleetwood
Atlas Crankshaft retiree

Robert Neal Fleetwood, 66, of East Meadowlark Drive, Seymour, Ind., died at 9:50 p.m. Monday, April 13, 1998, in Fostoria Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 2, 1931, in Seymour, to Hayden and Anna Henriette (Anderson) Fleetwood. His father survives in Seymour. On Sept. 23, 1950, in Seymour, he married Doris Louise Prewitt, and she survives in Seymour.

Survivors also include: a son, Robert A. "Rob" Fleetwood of Seymour; a daughter, Mrs. Kent (Lisa) Kline of Risingsun; two brothers, Harold Gene and Roger Darrell Fleetwood, both of Seymour; two sisters, Mrs. John (Dorcas) Miller of Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. Michael (Kathy) Pyle of Seymour; and three grandchildren.

His mother is deceased.

A 1949 graduate of Cortland High School, Cortland, Ind., Mr. Fleetwood retired from the Atlas Crankshaft Corp. in Fostoria after 30 years of employment with Cummings Engine Corp. (Atlas is a division of Cummings.) He also worked at the Seymour plant and was a line supervisor in Fostoria.

He was a member of Peterswitch Church of the Nazarene, Seymour, and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

The Rev. Gary Bectal will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in the Voss and Son Funeral Home, Seymour. Interment will be in Riverview cemetery, Seymour.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Voss and Son Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church.

The Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in
charge of local arrangements.

Kenneth C. Ridenour
Plumber/pipefitter

Kenneth C. Ridenour, 73, of 461 W. Lytle St., Lot 139, Fostoria, died in St.Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria, at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 1998.

Born July 12, 1924, in Miller City, to Charles and Anna (Ordway) Ridenour, he married Dorothy Stahl, Oct. 5, 1957. She survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are a daughter, Diana Tyson of Palmer, Alaska; a son, Edward Ridenour of Nebraska; and five grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a brother, John Ridenour; and a sister, Erma McDonald.

A World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Ridenour had been employed as a plumber and pipe fitter for Local 50, Toledo.

He was a member of the Girton Church of God and VFW Post 421, Fostoria.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, with Mr. Ridenour's son, the Rev. Edward Ridenour, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fostoria American Legion, VFW and AMVETS.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
