Rollin E. Hengsteler
Self-employed farmer

Rollin E. Hengsteler, 89, of 2749 Crystal Ave., Findlay, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Fox Run Manor, Findlay.

He was born in Risingsun, Jan. 21, 1909, to Jay and Otha (Wiseman) Hengsteler. On June 10, 1931, in Risingsun, he married his wife of 67 years, Mabel E. (McHaffie) Hengsteler, who survives in Findlay.

Also surviving are two grandsons, Stewart and Todd Hengsteler; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Hengsteler of Arcadia.

Two sons, Eugene Richard and Dwight Owen Hengsteler; a brother, Milo Hengsteler; and a sister, Hazel Dalton, are deceased.

Mr. Hengsteler, a graduate of Risingsun High School, had been a self-employed Findlay area farmer.

A former Grange member, he was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Findlay and the Ohio AARP.

Visitation will be noon Wednesday until time of the service at 2 p.m. at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel. The Rev. Ben Lowell will officiate. Interment will be in Graham cemetery, Wayne.

Memorials may be made to Youth for Christ or Salem United Methodist Church, 4699 Hancock CR 236, Findlay, OH 45840.

Velma H. White
White Plastic Co. co-owner

Former Columbus resident, Velma H. White, 76, of Highland Parkway, Upper Sandusky, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, in the Wyandot Manor Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born in Salem Township, Wyandot County, March 25, 1922, to Delmar and Hattie (Welker) Trachsel. Her husband, Eugene White, is deceased.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Allan (Joyce) Blue of Delaware, Ohio, Mrs. Ray (Harriet) Newell of Heath and Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Fisher of London, Ohio; a brother, Kail Trachsel of Nevada, Ohio; and two sisters, Loraine Quail of Upper Sandusky and Eleanor Ruffner of Elyria.

Two brothers, Loyal and Ray, and two sisters, Romaine Pfeifer and Gwyneth Armstrong, are deceased.

Mrs. White, a member of Linden Lutheran Church, was the co-owner of White Plastic Co., both of Columbus.

She also was a member of Order Eastern Star 463, the Society of Plastic Engineers and the Linden Women's Club.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jerry Elsholz officiating.

There will be no visitation. The Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Associaton or a charity of the donor's choice.

Larry D. 'Bear' Weber
Coast-to-coast truck driver

Larry D. 'Bear' Weber, 55, of 9709 Hoaglin Road, Van Wert, was found dead in his truck cab at Mox Trucking in Van Wert at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998.

He was born in Crawford County, June 3, 1943, to Francis J. and Ida M. (Billings) Weber. They survive in Upper Sandusky.

Other survivors include: eight sons, Michael L. Weber of California, Robert F. Weber of Alabama, Scott L. Weber of Georgia, John V. Weber of North Carolina, Frank H. Weber and Christopher J., both of Minnesota, Tony T. Allen of McCutchenville and William J. Weber of Oklahoma; two daughters, Michelle Allen Mullholand of Sycamore and Stephany Ann Weber of Oklahoma; two step-children, Brian Linch of Oklahoma and Charlotte Linch of Australia; nine grandchildren; and two sisters, Sharon Topor of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Bruce (Carol) Blackwell of Henderson, Nev.

A son, Larry David Jr., is deceased.

Mr. Weber was a coast-to-coast truck driver for Mox Trucking, Rockford, Ohio and his operator handle on CB was "Bear."

A U.S. Navy veteran, he had served during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Kitty Hawk CVA 63 aircraft carrier.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and affiliated with St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky and St. Pius Church, Sycamore.

Services in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Pleasantview cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation at the funeral home will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the Charity Fund at the VA Home in Johnson City, Tenn, in care of the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Ave., Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.

Imelda M. (Brickner) Scherger
Gross Street homemaker

Imelda M. (Brickner) Scherger, 74, of 270 Gross St., died at 12:14 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Autumnwood Care Center.

She was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Liberty Township, to William and Adelaine (Koerper) Brickner. Her husband, Gerald W. Scherger, whom she married June 14, 1944, in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Liberty, died Feb. 25, 1976.

Survivors include: two sons, Gary Scherger of Fostoria and Joseph Scherger of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. James (Sandra) McCarty of Bloomdale and Mrs. Philip (Sharon) Frisch of Fostoria; a sister, Margaret Smith of Tiffin; three brothers, Norbert and Vincent Brickner, both of Fostoria, and Roger Brickner of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A brother, Kenneth Brickner, and three grandchildren are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Scherger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a former member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society.

The Rev. Herman Scherger and the Rev. Richard Dunn will be the co-celebrants at the 1 p.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited 15 minutes before the Mass. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Catholic cemetery, Liberty Township.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care.

Josephine Maksemetz
Former Sterling ITT employee

Josephine (Pennington) Maksemetz, 72, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at her residence at 1700 Meadowlake Drive.

She was born in Whitesburg, Ky., Aug. 10, 1926, the daughter of Irvin and Edna (Adams) Hall. Her first husband, Joseph M. Pennington, is deceased. On Oct. 21, 1977, she married Peter Maksemetz, who survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Ronnie D. Pennington of Tiffin; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Greene of Tiffin; a step-son, Martin Maksemetz of Tiffin; a step-daughter, Mickanna Choritz of Missouri; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; three brothers, Paul J., Ray and Donald G. Hall, all of Tiffin; and three sisters, Julia Lawson and Mrs. Orbin (Sillar) Montgomery, both of Tiffin, and Alpha Hatton of Whitesburg.

Two brothers, Linville and the Rev. Dewey E. Hall, are deceased.

Mrs. Maskemetz, a member of the Freewill Baptist Church of Tiffin, had formerly been employed at Sterling ITT.

Services in the Freewill Baptist Church of Tiffin, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Darrel Breman officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Malta Caudill
Rural Carey homemaker

Malta Caudill, 87, of 15698 CH 4, Carey, died at her residence at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, Arrangements are pending at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey.

Harold W. "Tim" Kipps
Retired Columbia Gas employee

Harold W. "Tim" Kipps, 74, of 113 Union St., rear, Tiffin, died at 4:25 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, after an extended illness. He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Bloomville to Clarence and Gertrude (Ryan) Kipps, both deceased. On Dec. 3, 1955, he married Myrtle Nichols in Angola, Indiana, and she survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Timothy Kipps, Edward Kipps, and Michael E. Huffman, all of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Margaret) Kastner, and Dorothy Siebenaller, both of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. John (Helen) McQuistion, and Mrs. Nicholas (Genevieve) Biller, both of Tiffin; ten grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Allen St. Clair, who died in 1969; two sisters, Irene McQuistion, and Pauline Weber; and a brother, Clarence R. Kipps, Jr.

Mr. Kipps served in the Army Air Force from 1948 to 1950. He was a pipefitter/welder for the Columbia Gas Company of Tiffin, where he worked 24 years and retired on March 1, 1980. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Jeffrey King will officiate the 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12, service at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Military Graveside Service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Memorials may be made to his family.

George W. Richardson
Co-owner of Richardson Electric

George W. Richardson, 79, of 420 S. Patterson St., Carey, died at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at the Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. He was born June 23, 1919, to Solomon and Mary (Schleif) Richardson, both deceased. On June 4, 1943, he married Gladys E. Wickham; she died Aug. 27, 1997.

Surviving include: two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Susan) McClain of rural Wharton and Mrs. Jack (Connie) Newman of Madison, WI; two brothers, Solomon Richardson of Findlay, and Robert Richardson of Richwood; a sister, Julia Bohlen of rural Wharton; and two grandchildren, Lara and Chad McClain.

Preceding him in death were: a brother, Paul Richardson; and a sister, Elizabeth Suber.

Mr. Richardson served in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Armor Division during World War II in Europe, where he survived the Battle of the Bulge. He was co-owner of the former Richardson Electric in Carey; he also worked for former J.F. Dible's Heating and Plumbing and R.J. Hall's Heating and Plumbing, both in Carey; and worked at Bob's Countryside Golf Course. His memberships include: Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church; Lodge 420, F&A.M.; Carey Chapter 159, R.A.M.; American Legion Post 344; Black-Lamberjack Post 3759 of VFW, all of Carey and BPOE 83 in Upper Sandusky.

The Rev. Paul W. DeMoss will officiate the 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 12 service at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carey. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. tonight, at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church onSaturday. The Masons will hold a service at 8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

The United Veterans council will conduct a Military Graveside Service.

Dorothy M. Bevins
Former Tiffin resident

Dorothy M. Bevins, 83, of Ypsilanti, MI, formerly of Tiffin, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at her home. She was born July 23, 1915, in Tiffin to Samuel and Ruby (Jenkinson) Remsberg. On Feb. 11, 1967, she married Earl Bevins in Ypsilanti. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1997.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard and Clifford Weaver, both of Ypsilanti, MI; a step-daughter, Wanda Sue (Ted) Daschner of Monroe, MI; a step-son, Freddie (Deb) Bevins of Ypsilanti; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Weaver of Stockbridge, MI; four sisters, Laura May Glick of Tiffin, Evelyn Wellman of Ohio, Helen (Andy) White of Florida, and Ilene Herbst of Ypsilanti; several nieces and nephews; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Weaver; a son, David Weaver; her parents; and a brother, Calvin Remsberg.

Mrs. Bevins was a bartender at the Ypsilanti Eagles for 18 years, a member of the Women of the Moose 286 and charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary 2250.

The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 7, where the Pastor Gretchen Bingea of Emanuel Lutheran Church officiated. Burial is at Highland cemetery.

Memorials may be made to: The American Cancer Society or Hospice of Washtenaw.

Harriet V. Johnson
Junior HomeKid

Word has been received of the death of Harriett (Roper) Johnson, 80, of 860 Chestershire Road, Columbus, who died Friday, Nov. 27, 1998, in Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

She was born in 1918 in Pennsylvania to Jonas and Sarah (Edmunds) Roper. Her husband, William Johnson, survives in Columbus.

Other survivors include: five daughters, Judith Conkey, Marilyn Maclam, Joan Tillery, Sally Harrison and Peggy Johnson; a son, Michael Johnson; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Mark Johnson; three sisters, Evelyn Ross, Helen Thomas and Erma Smith; and two brothers, Louis and David Roper.

Mrs. Johnson, a member of St. Mary Magdaline Catholic Church, retired as an assistant comptroller from Airtron Corp.

Interment was in St. Joseph cemetery, Columbus.

Richard H. Hawkins
Father of Tiffin resident

Richard H. Hawkins, 81, of Prairie Road, Bellevue, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in the Emergency Room of the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born in Ashville, N.C., March 31, 1917, to B.A. and Francis (Cauble) Hawkins. On June 2, 1942, in Lorain, he married Catherine E. Northam, who survives.

Survivors also include: three sons, Richard Jr. and George Hawkins, both of Bellevue and James A. Hawkins of Tiffin; two daughters, Cathy Patrick of Norwalk and Janice Wetzel of Westland, Mich.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, B.A. Hawkins Jr. of North Carolina.

Mr. Hawkins, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Bellevue, had been employed as a freight agent for the Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring in 1980.

He also was a member of the Bellevue Eagles, Bellevue Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his dog, George.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Foos & Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue, with the Rev. David Wietelman officiating. Burial will be in Strongs Ridge cemetery, Bellevue.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Tiffin Developmental Center, 600 N. River Rd., Tiffin, OH 44883.

Rebecca Paige Schmucker
Buckeye Central West elementary student

Rebecca Paige Schmucker, 6, daughter of Robert and Angelica Joyce (Craig) Schmucker of 7197 SR 4, Bloomville, died Monday afternoon, Dec. 7, 1998, in the Children's Hospital, Columbus, following a liver transplant.

She was born in Tiffin, Oct. 13, 1992.

Survivors include her parents; two siblings, Stephanie N. Deitler of Bloomville and Jessica L. Robinson of Tiffin; her maternal grandparents Harold and Sieglinde Craig of Bloomville; paternal grandfather, Glenn Schmucker, also of Bloomville; paternal grandmother, Janice Hoover of Tempe, Ariz.; paternal great-grandfather, Milton Downs of Tiffin; and several aunts and uncles.

Rebecca was a kindergarten student at Buckeye Central West Elementary in Chatfield.

The Rev. Gary Hicks will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Republic-Bloomville Home of the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the Children's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House, both of Columbus.
