Nelda R. Jarrell
Homemaker/retired civilian secretary

Nelda R. Jarrell, 82, of Columbus, formerly of Upper Sandusky, died at about 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, in the Lutheran Village of Columbus.

She was born near Shepherd, Mich., Feb. 27, 1916, to Sheral M. and Maude (Porterfield) Callihan. Her first husband, Harold Jones, died in 1951. She later married Luther B. Jarrell, June 4, 1966, in Fairborn. He survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Jeffery Jones of Riverview, Mich.; twodaughters, Joyce Dull of Clare, Mich. and Linda Davies of Greenwell Springs, La.; a step-daughter, Katherine S. Diviak of Dayton; two step-sons, William A. Jarrell of New Albany and Gregory L. Jarrell of Westerville; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Mullet of Mt. Pleasant, Mich.

A brother, Gerald; and a sister, Lucile Nutter, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Jarrell, a homemaker, retired in 1971 as a civilian secretary from Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton. She also formerly operated a cabin/motel in West Branch, Mich.

A former member of the Order of Eastern Star and John Stewart United Methodist Church, Upper Sandusky, she most recently was a member of Bexley United Methodist Church. She also was a piano teacher.

Graveside memorial services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. The Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Victor F. Hartzell Sr.
Brother of Tiffin residents

Victor F. Hartzell Sr., 90, of Defance, died at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, in Harborside Healthcare Center, Defiance.

He was born in Defiance, May 30, 1908, to Thomas and Rosalie (Reiniche) Hartzell. His wife, Margaret A. (Valentic) Hartzell, whom he married Aug. 20, 1935, died Jan. 28, 1973.

Survivors include: six sons, Victor Jr. and Robert Hartzell, both of Defiance, John Hartzell of Napoleon, Gerald Hartzell of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Don Hartzell of Hamilton, Ind. and Stephen "Tony" Hartzell of Willmington, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Fay (Joanne) Greene of Tecumseh, Mich. and Mrs. Norman (Rita) Hasselschwert of Canadian Lakes, Mich.; a brother, Robert Hartzell of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Ellen) Elchert, also of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two sons, Raymond and Paul Hartzell; five daughters, Martha, Marianne, Elizabeth, Suzanne and Sarah Hartzell; three brothers, Harry, Eugene and Paul Hartzell; and two sisters, Mary Louise Elchert and Regina Beat.

A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Defiance, where he was a lector and a member of the choir, Mr. Hartzell owned Vic's Wallpaper Store in Defiance for many years. He also owned his own home construction company and worked as a janitor at St. Mary's Catholic Church and School.

Also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Noodle Club, he had attended the University of Detroit.

The Rev. Edward Schleter will be the celebrant at the 11 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial following in Riverside cemetery, Defiance.

Visitation at the Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home, Defiance, will be 2-9 p.m. Friday, where a Vigil service will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.

Ruby M. Harris
Allied Automotive retiree

Ruby M. Harris, 75, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at her residence at 729 Cherry St., Fostoria.

She was born in Turin, Ga., Dec. 25, 1922, to Ralph Carmichael and Olga (North) Carmichel-Bibbs. Her mother survives in Fostoria. Her husband, Clarence Harris, whom she married Nov. 8, 1976, in Fostoria, is deceased.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Darlene Dessausure of Fostoria; two sisters, Rosetta Williams of Warren and Evelyn Browning of Fostoria; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were her father and three sisters, Julia Carmichael, Velma Smith and Donna J. Fairley.

Mrs. Harris retired in 1989 as a production checker from Allied Automotive in Fostoria, where she had been employed for 32 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fostoria, where she served on its Mother's Board and also as a trustee.

Services in the First Baptist Church will be 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. T.A. Smith officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens near Arcadia.

Visitation at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Dell L. Mathern Sr.
National Lime/Stone retiree

Dell L. Mathern Sr., 84, died at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at his residence at 1321 Tiffin Ave., Findlay.

He was born in Newcombers, Ohio, Feb. 18, 1914, to Lawrence M. and Vangie (Cinnammond) Mathern. On April 21, 1940, he married Agnes M. Lichtle, and she preceded him in death Sept. 11, 1994.

Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Alice) Ekleberry of Bucyrus; two sons, Fred Mathern of Englewood, Fla. and Dell Mathern Jr. of Fostoria; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Wickiser of Carey and Lucille Theis of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a brother, Charles Mathern of Carey.

A sister, Margaret Kristof, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Mathern, a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church-East, Findlay, retired from the National Lime and Stone Co., Carey, where he had been employed for 42 years. He also worked at Matherns Carry-Out for 30 years.

A funeral Mass in Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Carey, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Ben Knopp as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the Beach Funeral Home of Carey, will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Bridge Hospice of Hancock County.

Neva Arlene Taylor
Homemaker

Neva Arlene Taylor, 71, formerly of 529 N. Hazel St., recently residing at Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky, died at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998. She was born Jan. 1, 1927, to Victor and Pearl Humes; both are deceased. On Jan. 1, 1948, she married Claude Taylor Sr. He died Feb. 7, 1973.

Survivors include: three sons, Larry Taylor of Carey, Bob Smith of Upper Sandusky, and Donald Taylor of Winchester; a step-son, Claude Jr. of Waverly; a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Thelma) Fox of Upper Sandusky; six step-daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Virginia) Eckleberry of Bayview, Mrs. James (Rose) Shook of Toledo, Mrs. Franklin (Gladys) Henricks of Bayview, Mrs. Annie Young of Sandusky, Mrs. Wm. (Bonnie) Ward of Sandusky, and Mrs. Herb (Frances) Conn of Upper Sandusky; two brothers, Ralph Hare, and Leonard Hare, both of Upper Sandusky; two sisters, Margaret Thomas of Upper Sandusky and June Biglin of Decatur, IL; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 32 step-grandchildren; and many step-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: a son, David W.; four step-sons, James, Robert, Gene and Richard; and a step-daughter, Margaret Ann.

Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and worked in the laundry department at Wyandot Manor Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky. Her memberships included: John Stewart United Methodist Church; Fraternal Order of Eagles 2184; and Moose Lodge 1045, all in Upper Sandusky.

The Rev. Lenn Geiger will officiate the 11 a.m. service Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at the Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. An Eagles Auxillary Service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Frieda V. Graumlich
Tiffin resident

Frieda V. Graumlich, 79, of 269 Main St., Tiffin, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Columbus. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Carl R. Overmire
Atlas Crankshaft retiree

Carl R. Overmire, 86, of 22971 SR 613, Fostoria, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Findlay Feb. 18, 1912, to Roscoe and Mayme M. Overmire. His wife, Ella Mae (Ponn) Overmire, whom he married Oct. 24, 1935, in Kentucky, survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: a son, Ronald D. Overmire of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Connie S. Taylor of Bowling Green, Kathy J. Marley and Lori Ann Overmire, both of Fostoria; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Overmire, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Fostoria, retired as a machinist in 1972 from the Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria after 22 years of employment. He also had worked as a body and fender man at McCormick's Garage, also in Fostoria.

He and his wife had a foster home for children in Hancock, Wood and Seneca County for 31 years.

The Rev. Robert Chew will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Thursday service in the First Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.

William Arnold Pell
Mechanic/heavy equipment operator

William Arnold Pell, 67, died early Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 1998, at his residence at 128 N. Fourth St., Upper Sandusky.

He was born in Lewis County, Vanceburg, Ky., Feb. 6, 1931, to the late Fred P. and Sallie M. (Horsley) Pell. On Sept. 26, 1954, in Upper Sandusky, he married Rosemary Kinley. She survives. They were later divorced.

Other survivors include: two sons, Mark A. Pell of Bellevue, Mich., and Jeff F. Pell of Upper Sandusky; three daughters, Mrs. Dallas (Karen L.) Smith of Findlay, Mrs. Kenneth (Tami I.) Niederkohr and Lisa M. Pell, both of Upper Sandusky; two sisters, Maxine Barciz of Bucyrus and Doris Pell of McAllister, Okla.; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and a step-great-grandchild.

Three sisters also are deceased.

Mr. Pell, a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict (August 1951-May 1953) as a tank mechanic, retired in 1991 from the Interstate Engineer, Fairmont, W.Va. He also had been employed as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for the former Wilson Sand and Gravel and the former Ruttmann Construction Co., both of Upper Sandusky.

A member of American Legion Post 225 and a life member of both Upper Sandusky VFW Post 2842 and AMVETS Post 777, all of Upper Sandusky, he enjoyed his grandchildren and playing cards.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oceola cemetery, Oceola, with the Rev. Norman Folk officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local service organizations.

Visitation at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Grant-A-Wish Foundation in care of the AMVETS Auxiliary or the Youth Funds of the local service clubs.

Lowell C. Prater
Atlas Crankshaft machine operator

Lowell C. Prater, 62, of 1024 Breezewood Court, Findlay, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, in Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 19, 1935, in Salyersville, Ky., to the late Boyd and Mollie (Salyer) Prater. His wife, Sarah E. (Higley) Prater, whom he married Jan. 24, 1958, in Findlay, survives.

Survivors also include: three daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Deborah) Launder of Findlay, Mrs. Dennis (Pamela) Long of rural Arlington and Mrs. Richard (Tina) Pellam of Vanlue; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Herbert Prater of Carey, Roy Prater of Vanlue and Tom, Powell and James Prater, all of Findlay; and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Betty) Clark of Forest and Mrs. Lee (Barbara) Kloeppel of Vanlue.

A machine operator at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria, Mr. Prater served in the U.S. Army, having been stationed in Japan.

He attended Harvest Jubilee Family Church, Findlay and was a member of UAW Local 336, Fostoria.

Pastor Don Friar will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Diabetes Foundation.

Ardis M. Hill
Budd Co. retiree

Ardis M. Hill, 81, of 8955 S. TR 1069, McCutchenville, died in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay, at 9:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998.

She was born in Sycamore Township, Wyandot County, March 10, 1917, to Harley E. and Della S. (Rose) Hill. She had never married .

Survivors include: 19 nieces and nephews; and four brothers, Keith Hill of Fremont, Alvie J. Hill of Fort Wayne, Ind., Alton Hill of Marion and Glenn E. Hill of Findlay.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Kenneth M. and Russell W. Hill.

Miss Hill, a 1936 graduate of McCutchenville High School, retired as a finisher from the Budd Co., Carey. She also worked at Bea's Superette in McCutchenville.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and the William Myers Chapter 196 Order Eastern Star, which she had served as a worthy matron.

Services in the Walton Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Roy Howell officiating. Interment will be in Bethel cemetery, McCutchenville.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where Eastern Star services will be at 6:30.

Memorials may be made to the church or McCutchenville Volunteer Fire Department.

Frances I. Price
Retired bookkeeper

Frances I. Price, 71, of 6236 S. TR 173, Bloomville, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, Columbus.

She was born in Lykens Township, Crawford County, Sept. 23, 1927, to Marion E. and Fairy M. (Swalley) Young. On Aug. 17, 1947, she married Paul E. Price, and he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Randal E. and Jamison P. Price, both of rural Bloomville; a daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Lori) Frost of Bucyrus; three grandchildren; two brothers, Franklin and Claude Young, both of rural Bloomville; and a sister, Mrs. Glen (Wanda) Zeiter, also of rural Bloomville.

Preceding her in death were her step-mother, Mary L. Young in 1997; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy A. Dawson in 1992; and a brother, Dalton R. Young.

Mrs. Price, a retired bookkeeper, worked for Horn's Crop Service and Silver Valley Ag Services, Bloomville. She also was employed as a teller at the Crawford County Bank, Bucyrus, at one time.

A 1945 graduate of Lykens High School, she attended Bowling Green State University.

She was a member of St. John's Baseline United Church of Christ, rural Bloomville, and enjoyed gardening and her Dobermans.

Services in St. John's Baseline United Church of Christ will be 11 a.m Monday, with the Rev. Daniel Ward officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, Bloomville.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore. The body also will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Memorials may be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Columbus, Ohio.

George H. Siegrist
Retired Tiffin mail carrier

George H. Siegrist, 76, formerly of 70 Sixth Ave., Tiffin, died at 9 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at St. Catherine's Care Center of Fostoria. He was born April 25, 1922, in Tiffin to George and Myrtlebelle (Snyder) Siegrist, both deceased. On Nov. 4, 1955, he married Dorothy E. Fink Beisner; she passed away Jan. 13, 1983.

Survivors include: a step-son, Howard Beisner of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Don (Sally) Moyer of Tiffin; three nephews, Jacob, Daniel, and Kyle Moyer, all of Tiffin; and one step-grandchild, Timothy Beisner.

Mr. Siegrist was a high school graduate, and a U.S. Army veteran serving in WW II. He worked in the Tiffin Police Department and retired in 1981 as a mail carrier from the Tiffin Post Office. Memberships included: Trinity United Church of Christ; American Legion Post 169; VFW Post 2858; Moose Lodge 846; Eagles Aerie 402; and NALC (National Association of Letter Carriers).

The Rev. William Smith will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, service at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 6-8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Military graveside services will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
