Retired registered nurse

Jane H. Young, 80, of 470 N. Grand St., Fowlerville, MI, died at 6:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Arbor Hospice, Ann Arbor, MI. She was born May 28, 1918, to John and Elsie (Stewart) Holt in Bournemoth, England. On June 20, 1946, she married Lewis E. Young. He died Nov. 12, 1987.

Surviving include: a son, Mark E. Young of Fowlerville, MI; two grandchildren, Mrs. Patrick (Tracie) Meadows of Liberty, TN, and Mrs. John (Cindy) Resar of Jackson, MI; and four great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were a sister and two brothers.

Mrs. Young retired as a registered nurse. She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Fowlerville and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star Lodge in Louisville, KY.

The Very Rev. Frank Murd will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, graveside service at the Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore. No visitation hours are scheduled.

Memorials may be made to Livingston County Hospice, Howell, MI. 48843.

Arrangements are being handled by Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.

Robert F. Kuhn
National Machinery Retiree

Robert F. Kuhn, 70, formerly of 219 Nelson St., Tiffin, died at 10:50 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria. The funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at St. John's United Church of Christ. Visitation hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at theHoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home.

The complete obituary will be run in Saturday's paper.

Evelyn Nielsen
Port Clinton resident

Evelyn Nielson, 89, of Danbury Twp., Port Clinton, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Neidecker-LeVeck and Crosser Funeral Home, 1124 Fulton St., Port Clinton. Phone: (419) 732-3141.

Jacqueline M. 'Jackie' Brose
YMCA staff employee

Jacqueline M. "Jackie" Brose, 34, died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at her home at 464 E. Perry St.

She was born in Tiffin Aug. 31, 1964, to Francis "Frank" and Donna (Graham) Brose. They survive in Tiffin.

Other survivors include: her fiance, Ronald Bouillon of Tiffin; two brothers, Francis Brose Jr. of Nelsonville and Nathan Brose of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Glenn (Caroline) Weller of Munster, Ind.; her grandmother, Mary Graham of Tiffin; and a niece.

Her grandparents, Leonard Graham and William and Louise Brose, are deceased.

Ms. Brose had been employed at the YMCA, as a child care provider for 15 years, worked at Cabin Creations for 12 years and was an Avon representative for 14 years.

A 1983 graduate of Calvert High School, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

The Rev. James K. Say will be the celebrant at the 11:30 a.m. Friday funeral Mass in St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 11:15 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is 2-9 p.m. today, where a Wake service will be at 7:15 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Building Fund, the YMCA Building Fund, Community Hospice Care or the donor's choice.

Herald T. Cochran
TV company owner/Wyandot County native

Herald T. Cochran, 87, of Toledo, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in St. Charles Mercy Hospital, Toledo.

He was born in Wyandot County Dec. 4, 1910, to William and Florence Cochran. On June 12, 1938, he married his wife of 60 years, Evelyn V. (Echelbarger) Cochran, who is deceased.

Surviving are a son, Dennis E. Cochran of Rockford, Mich.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, Earl, Turney, Hazel, Lucille, Helen and John.

Also preceding him in death were two sons, Ronald and Michael; and a brother and sister, Robert and Kathryn.

Mr. Cochran, the oldest of nine children, re-located to Toledo, where he went into business with his father-in-law and later became the owner of George Stitsel TV.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, and had also worked at General Motors.

A member of Wayne Avenue E.U.B. Church, Dayton, and Calvary United Methodist Church, Toledo, he was known as "Mr. Evangelism." He also was recognized by the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church with the prestigious Harry Denman Award for Excellence in Evangelism. He grew prize winning dahlias and also served as a volunteer.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Sept. 26 in Calvary United Methodist Church, Toledo, with the Rev. Culbertson and Peters officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to Dennis Cochran, 7500 Bush Drive, Rockford, MI 49341.

Ida M. Wilson
Retired dietician

Ida M. Wilson, 67, of Green Springs, died at 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16,1998, in the Emergency Room of Fremont Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 1, 1931, in Ironton to the late Emmet and Ruth (Maynard) Cochran. Her husband, Eugene Wilson, whom she married in Fremont, survives.

Also surviving are a son, Gary Wilson of Green Springs; 10 daughters, Sharon Hazlett and Mary Bagley, both of North Carolina, Rita Starr of Green Springs, Linda Jurovcik, Sue Piper and Terri Ellis, all of Fremont, Jeannie Firestone of East Liverpool, Donna Ellis of Findlay and Debbie Goins and Paula Ellis, both of Marion; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters.

A son, Anthony "Tony" Ellis; a brother and a sister, are deceased.

Mrs. Wilson retired from Countryside Continuing Care Center, where she had been employed as a dietician.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Paul Samuel Stephan
Upper Sandusky businessman

Paul Samuel Stephan, 89, of 138 High St., Upper Sandusky, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

Born Nov. 1, 1908, in Upper Sandusky, to Edward Franklin and Bertha V. (Althouse) Stephan, he married Marian Morris, June 12, 1937, in Nelsonville. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Donald P. Stephan of Upper Sandusky and Andrew M. Stephan of Southgate, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Phyllis Anne) Quillen of Allen Park, Mich., Mrs. Rick (Janet Elizabeth) Coyne of Clovis, Calif. and Mrs. David (Laura L.) Bacon of Upper Sandusky; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a brother, David; and a sister, Helen L. Harmon.

Mr. Stephan, the co-owner and then owner of Stephan Lumber Co. of Upper Sandusky, which his father purchased 100 years ago, also had been employed by Johns-Manville Corp, traveling in Ohio and Michigan.

A 1926 graduate of Upper Sandusky High School, he attended Kisiminitas College, Saltsburg, Pa. and graduated in 1932 from Ohio University with a business administration degree and was manager of the football team and member and president of TKE Fraternity.

He was a life member of Trinity Evangelical Church, Upper Sandusky; a charter member of Wyandot County Rod and Gun Club, lifelong member of Elks Lodge 83; director of the Carnegie Library Board, Upper Sandusky; served on the board of directors at Commercial Savings Bank, Upper Sandusky, where he also was director emeritus; charter member and first president of the Upper Sandusky Rotary Club and was one of the developers of the Upper Sandusky United Development Corp.

He enjoyed helping the Upper Sandusky community develop and had a love for nature.

Mr. Stephan also was a member of Warpole Masonic Lodge 176, McCuthen Chapter 96, Upper Sandusky Council 98, Commandery Marion, 32nd Degree Consistery, Aladdin Shrine Temple and the Wyandot County Shrine Club.

The Rev. John Hoover and the Rev. Derik Hines will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Trinity Evangelical Church, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky and at the church one hour prior to the Friday service.

Memorials may be made to the church, Wyandot Memorial Hospital or Wyandot County Historical Society.

Merrill L. Morton
Resident of Everett, Wash.

Word has been received of the death of Merrill L. Morton, who died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998.

He was born Aug. 21, 1914. His wife of 60 years, Rosemary Morton, survives as does a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Betsy) Swanson of Mill Creek, Wash.; a son, Dan Morton of Petaluma, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morton was a life member of the Lapeer, Mich. Masonic Lodge.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Solie Funeral Home Chapel.

Margaret E. Compton
Fostoria homemaker

Margaret Elizabeth Compton, 87, formerly of 400 N. Main St., Fostoria, died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Fostoria, where she resided.

She was born in Mill City, Ore., March 17, 1911, to Harvey Monroe and Lazetta May (Deeds) Sutton. Her husband, Alfred Wesley Compton, whom she married Nov. 11, 1933, in Findlay, died Sept. 14, 1985.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anita K. Fulton of Tiffin; two granddaughters, Patricia Marie Compton of Columbus and Pamela Gail Dunn of Fostoria; and four great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Earl E. and Russell Sutton; and two sisters, Vera Mae Arrington and Ethel Sutton.

A homemaker, Mrs. Compton was a member of the First Christian Church and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 94, both of Fostoria.

Services in Memory Gardens Chapel, near Arcadia, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Bertie Dell officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens.

There will be no visitation. The Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph R. Rohe
Lifetime Tiffin resident

Joseph R. Rohe, 54, 1201 Brace Ave., died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 9, 1944, in Tiffin to the late Lester and Nora (Jumper) Rohe. On June 8, 1979, he married Linda Graves in Tiffin. She survives.

Survivors also include: a nephew, Billie Davis, who he raised; two brothers, Grover and Jerry Rohe, both of Tiffin; and a sister, Helen (Rohe) Staley.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billie and Lester Rohe; two sisters, Sally Ryan and Sussie Davis; and a daughter who died at birth.

Mr. Rohe was a lifetime resident of Tiffin.

Pastor Watson Combs will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour before the service on Friday.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Kathryn Mary Russell
Former St. Mary School librarian

Kathryn Mary Russell, 91, formerly of 527 S. Sandusky St. and Elizabeth Shaefer Apartments, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in St. Francis Home.

She was born Jan. 26, 1907, in Cleveland, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Lynch) Fitzpatrick. Her husband, Francis Russell, whom she married Nov. 29, 1947, in St. Aloysius Church, Cleveland, survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Robert J. Russell of Bowling Green; a sister, Mrs. Julian (Roseann) Kenski of Winter Haven, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Dale, Devin and Maureen Russell.

A sister, Elizabeth "Betty" and a brother, Martin Fritzpatrick, are deceased.

Mrs. Russell, a graduate of St. Joseph High School, Cleveland, was a homemaker.

A volunteer librarian at St. Mary School, she was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Altar-Rosary Society; Toledo Diocesan Council Catholic Women-Tiffin Deanery, St. Francis Home Council, the Cotillion Club, Emblem Club and Penthouse Club.

A funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 12:45 p.m. The Rev. Frank Murd will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and one hour before the service on Tuesday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, before leaving for the church.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary School Library or the Russell Family Scholarship at Calvert High School.

Mildred I. 'Midge' Sotan
Former Bettsville resident

Mildred I. "Midge" Sotan, 79, formerly of Bettsville and 545 W. Market St., died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center of Tiffin.

She was born in Bettsville, Jan. 31, 1919, to Rosco and Gertrude (Betts) Feasel. Her first husband, Wallace King and her second husband, Robert Sotan, both preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, James King of Medina; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Melissa) Depinet of Bascom; a sister, Evelyn Barringer of Fostoria; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were three sisters, Bernice, Vivian and Irene.

Mrs. Sotan, a Bettsville High School graduate, had been employed as an assembler at the Autolite in Fostoria and worked in customer service at the former Ames Department Store.

An avid golfer and bowler, she was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and Bettsville American Legion.

Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of Seneca County or the American Cancer Society-Seneca County Unit.
