Roy R. Mathias
Fostoria City Schools custodian

Roy R. Mathias, 90 of 355 Chase Road, Findlay, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in Winebrenner Village, Findlay.

He was born April 6, 1908, in Rockingham County, Va., to William and Sarah(Strawderman) Mathias. On Aug. 6, 1938, in Tiffin, he married Wanda M. Orians. She died Feb. 21, 1994.

Survivors include: a son, Gene Mathias of Findlay; three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Marilyn) Runion and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Decker, both of Findlay and Mrs. John (Carol) Coleman of Cliffton, Va.; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Mathias of Virginia; and a sister, Pauline Biller, also of Virginia.

Four brothers, Louis, Jess, Walter and Joseph; and five sisters, Helen Whitmer, Effie Fadley, Minnie Wilt, Mary Rinker and Clara Dillard, are also deceased.

Mr. Mathias, a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, had been employed as a custodian with the Fostoria City Schools for 20 years.

The Rev. Martin Nassr will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Tuesday service in the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay. Burial will be in St. Wendelin Catholic cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association-Hancock County Division, Fifth Third Bank of Northwestern Ohio, P.O. Box 748, Findlay, Ohio 45840 or the American Cancer Society, Hancock County Unit, 613 S. Main St., Findlay, Ohio 45840.

Gweneth Ann Eshelman
Granddaughter of Tiffin residents

Gweneth Ann Eshelman, 14, of 09763 SR 219, New Knoxville, Ohio, died suddenly in her sleep Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998. The cause of death is unknown pending autopsy results, according to Auglaize County Coroner Thomas Freytag M.D.

She was born March 2, 1984, in Fremont, to Bryon and Janet (Gase) Eshelman. Along with her parents she is survived by two brothers, Christian and Kevin; a sister, Meredith, all at home; her paternal grandfather, William Eshelman of Clyde; maternal grandparents, Dick and Martha Gase of Tiffin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Miss Eshelman, a freshman at New Knoxville High School, was active in the band, drama club, pep club and had previously been a cheerleader.

She was a member of the Cheery Sunbeams 4-H Club and the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, New Bremen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel Conlon officiating.

Friends may call 9-11 a.m. Wednesday in the narthex of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

The family wishes memorial donations be made in her name, in care of the Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, 200 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, Ohio 45871, who are in charge of arrangements. The fund will be used to purchase books at New Knoxville High School in Gweneth's memory.

Russell Kuhns
Quality control inspector

Russell Kuhns, 58, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at his residence at 135 Grove St., Bellevue, following a sudden illness.

He was born May 3, 1940, in Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph and Anna Marie (Libengood) Kuhns. His wife, LaVonne Kuhns, whom he married Oct. 13, 1990, in Zion United Church of Christ, Fireside, survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Joseph R. Kuhns of Tiffin and Chad R. and Russell D. Kuhns, both at home; a daughter, Jessica A. Wagoner of Monroeville; three grandchildren; and a sister, Ruthann Cook of Fremont.

A niece also is deceased.

Mr. Kuhns, a quality control inspector at the Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, had served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was a member of Eagles 490, the Bellevue Moose Lodge and Zion United Church of Christ.

The Rev. Candy Thomas will conduct the 10 a.m. Wednesday service in Zion United Church of Christ. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.

Visitation will be 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to the Russell Kuhns Memorial Fund, in care of the Bellevue Federal Credit Union.

Virginia L. Howard
Former bank teller/clothing store employee

Virginia L. Howard, 86, of Hickory Street, Clyde, died in Fremont Memorial Hospital Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998. She had been living at the Arbors of Clyde for the past two years.

She was born Dec. 6, 1911, in Clyde, to Charles D. and Alice M. (Stierheim) Robbins. Her husband of 33 years, Robert Coe, died in 1973. She later married William Howard and he died in 1984.

Surviving are: two brothers, Theodore J. Robbins of Clyde and Charles W. Robbins of Sandusky; a sister, Mrs. James (Patricia M.) Crabtree of Ashville, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A brother, Richard A. Howard, also is deceased.

Mrs. Howard, a teller at Clyde Savings Bank for 25 years, retired from Cindy's Clothing, where she had been employed since 1977.

A 1931 graduate of Clyde High School and a lifetime Clyde area resident, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, its Women's Society and Friendly Philathea.

She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women of Clyde, Clyde Garden and Progress Clubs.

The Rev. John Bailey will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Race Street, Clyde, Ohio 43410.

Glenn Houston Caudill
Ford Motor Co. retiree

Glenn Houston Caudill, 74, of Race Street, Clyde, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, in Firelands Hospital, Sandusky.

He was born in Virginia, May 15, 1924, the son of Newton Earl and Lily Caudill.

Survivors include: three sons, Harrison Dale, Michael Glenn and James Wallace Caudill, all of Clyde; two daughters, Mrs. Herb (Cynthia) Aldrich of McComb and Mrs. Drew (Kimberly) Goins, also of Clyde; 12 grandchildren; and four sisters, Nellie Crabtree of Sandusky, Carol Szpakawski of Buffalo, N.Y. and Wilma Freeman and Zera Salmons, both of Berlin Heights.

Mr. Caudill, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, was employed as a laborer at the Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, retiring in 1988, after 42 years of service.

He received his education in Virginia and was a member of the Clyde Eagles and Moose.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Clyde American Legion and VFW.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and noon until the time of services on Wednesday.

Myrtle R. Blair
Homemaker/former bookkeeper

Myrtle R. Blair, 94, formerly of 179 Hillcrest St., Mansfield, died Saturday night, Sept. 12, 1998, in Tiffin, following an extended illness.

She was born March 25, 1904, in Greenville, Pa., to Van Wert and Rosa Anne (Kitch) Mossman, and resided in the Mansfield area for the past 36 years. Her husband, Elston A. Blair, died Feb. 20, 1998.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Henry (Carol) Frey of Tiffin; two grandchildren, Bradly Frey of Austin, Texas and Mrs. John (Pamela) March of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Ralph and Albert Mossman.

Mrs. Blair, a homemaker, had worked as a bookkeeper for eight years with Bressemer Lake Erie Railroad prior to her marriage.

She was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, where she was active in many church organizations; and the Erie Lackawanna's Auxiliary.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to the funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in South Bend (Bethel) cemetery, McCutchenville.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Lloyd E. Robinson
Retired truck driver

Lloyd E. Robinson, 80, formerly of 1379 E. Woodland Ave., Tiffin, died at 10:33 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at Fremont Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for eight days. He had resided at Gibsonburg Health Center since May 1997.

He was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Michigan, to the late Charles H. and Minnie M. (Coolidge) Robinson. On July 20, 1965, in Shalerville, he married Fannie Mae Frost Smith, who survives.

Other survivors include four sons and three daughters: Lloyd C., Thomas J., Duane and James A. Robinson of Fostoria, Tiffin, Cromers, and Findlay, respectively; Alora Mae Springer of Gladwin, Mich.; Christina Bigelow of Saginaw, Mich.; and Evelyn Ogden of Beaverton, Mich. Two step-sons and three step-daughters also survive: Jerry Smith of Florence, Ala.; James A. Smith of Dublin, Ohio; Connie Jewell and Patricia A. Benavidez, both of Tiffin; and Edith England of Waterloo, Ala. In addition, 37 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles Robinson of Tiffin, and many nieces and nephews survive.

Three sisters are deceased.

Mr. Robinson was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and he was a truck driver for 32 years before retiring. He had lived most of his life in Tiffin.

The Rev. Nolan Blakkolb will officiate at graveside services at 11 a.m. on Monday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin. Burial will be in Little Mexico, Mexicao, Ohio, where a military graveside service will be held.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Gary R. Walter
Father of Carey residents

Gary R. Walter, 66, of 900 Eulalia Ave., Apt. 308, Upper Sandusky, died at 1:14 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. He had been involved in a train/pedestrian accident in Upper Sandusky.

Born July 19, 1932, in Carey, to the late Ira Russell and Elizabeth (England) Walter, he married Dorothy J. Elliott Dixon.

He is survived by: two sons, Jerry and Jeff Walter, both of Carey; three daughters, Marla Rumner and Mrs. William (Brenda) Messmer, both of Carey, and Joni Cress of Lima; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were a brother, Harlow Walter, a sister, Noreen Denney De-Rolf, and two infant sisters.

A graduate of the Ohio School for the Deaf, Columbus, Mr. Walter had worked at Swan Rubber in Carey for 17 years and at Carey Plastics for 12 years. A member of Heritage Baptist Church in Upper Sandusky, he was active in Wyandot County Senior Citizens. He was an avid sports fan who followed the Carey teams and Ohio State football.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor E.B. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery in Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Gary R. Walter Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, OH 43316-1169.

Dorothy R. Hickle
Carey homemaker

Dorothy R. Hickle, 80, of 5373 Twp. Hwy 98, Carey, died at 2:35 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, in Eaglewood Care Center, Carey.

She was born Jan. 20, 1918, in Carey, to Elmer and Jessie (Clinger) Strahm, who are deceased. She married Howard K. Hickle, who died in 1969.

Survivors are: two brothers, Robert Strahm of Nashport, and Leland Strahm of Carey; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Arlene) Bevington of Toledo, Mrs. Carroll (Gertrude) Powers of Monroe, Mich., and Mrs. Bill (Norma Jean) Smith of Carey.

Three brothers and a sister are deceased: Clarence, Harold, and Lawrence Strahm and Helen Breitigam.

A member of the Protestant faith, Mrs. Hickle was a homemaker and had retired from Westinghouse, Inc., Upper Sandusky.

The funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, where the Rev. Brett Kelly will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Vistation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Parkview Assembly Church or to the donor's choice.

Mary Schank
Tiffin resident

Mary Schank, 77, of 2996 E. TR 122, Tiffin, died at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Alice G. Dickson Distl
Mother of Tiffin resident

Alice G. Dickson Distl, 88, formerly of 147 Wolfe Ave., Mansfield, Ohio, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998 in St. Francis Home of Tiffin following an extended illness. She had lived at St. Francis for the past two years.

She was born July 21, 1910, in Shelby, residing in the Mansfield area for most of her life.

Surviving are: a son, Dan Distl of Mansfield; a daughter, Mrs. Dick (Judy) Edmond of Tiffin; five grandchildren, including Todd Edmond of Tiffin; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Clayton and Almeda (Stevens) Dickson; her husband, Daniel J. Distl, who died in 1970; a brother, Wallace Dickson; and a sister, Genevieve Horner.

The Rev. Jan Kucera of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tiffin, will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Burial will be in Mansfield cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Mansfield.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Home, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, OH 44883.

Anna M. Frederick
Tiffin resident

Anna M. Frederick, 82, of 39 Fostoria St., Tiffin, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at her home. Arrangements are pending at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin.

Haley Elaine Weese
Daughter of Upper Sandusky residents

Haley Elaine Weese, 7, of 500 Highland Parkway, Apt. 5B, Upper Sandusky, diedat 1:55 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at her residence. She had suffered a two-year illness from a brain malignancy.

She was born Oct. 31, 1990, in Marion, to Kim L. Weese and Wendy Van Bibber, who both survive in Upper Sandusky.

Also surviving: are her step-mother, Tina Stansbery Weese; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Shaw of Chillicothe; maternal grandfather, Thomas VanBibber, Jr., of Washington Court House; paternal grandmother, Ethna Morrow of Morgantown, W.Va.; step-grandparents, James and Opal Stansbery of Upper Sandusky; great-grandparents, Thomas and Joann VanBibber of Upper Sandusky and Thomas and Shirley Souther of Washington Court House; great, great-grandparents Homer and Faye Conaway of Washington Court House and Fred and Garna Dalton of Florida. Additional survivors are: two half-brothers, John Weese of Mt. Gilead, and Joseph Weese, of Kirby; a half-sister, Quianna Douglas, two step-brothers, Mark and Andy Fredritz, and a step-sister, Leanna Fredritz, all of Upper Sandusky.

Haley's illness prevented her from being a second-grader at Union School, Upper Sandusky. She had attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Marion, collected Barbie dolls, and especially loved cats and dogs.

The Rev. Cathy Wirth will conduct graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bringman-Clark & Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky.

Memorials may be made to the Haley E. Weese Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 246, Upper Sandusky, OH 43351.
