Marian M. Mellen

Marian M. Mellen, 84, of West Buckeye Street, Clyde, died in the Arbors of Clyde Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998.
She was born in York Township, Sandusky County, June 26, 1914, to Frank and Valiera (Bowers) Mellen. She had never married
.
Surviving are a brother, Robert Mellen of Castalia; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Frances Mellen, who died in June 1996, and Ruth Fowler, who died in September 1998.
Miss Mellen, a homemaker, also had been employed at Vine Street Cafeteria for nine years and at Eliza Ramsey Home Cafe for 10 years.
A former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she received her education in the Clyde Schools and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clyde and its Friendly Philathea.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation at the funeral home will be noon until time of the service Wednesday.

Charles L. Ryman
Marathon Oil Co. retiree
Charles L. Ryman, 85, who resided at the home of his daughter for the past three years, at 2517 E. CR 181, Clyde, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, in the Arbors of Clyde, where he had been a patient since Oct. 30.
He was born April 17, 1913, in Shenandoah County, Va., to John Edward and Della (Garrett) Ryman. He was married
three times, to Pauline Hottle in 1936, to Mary Clark in 1948 and to Charlotte Black in 1964.
Surviving are three sons, Alan of Fostoria, Larry of Indiana and Charles L. Jr.; a daughter, Jennifer Ryman of Clyde; five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank of Michigan and Harold of Old Fort; and two sisters, Mary Thallman of Bascom and Connie Michael of Fremont.
Four sisters, Catherine Rausher, Beatrice Johnson, Ruth O'Melia and Carrie Fox, are deceased.
Mr. Ryman, a 1930 graduate of Jackson Township Centralized High School, retired as an accountant from Marathon Oil Co., Findlay, where he had been employed for 35 years. He attended Tiffin Business University.
Prior to working at Marathon, he was employed at Black Swamp Credit Association 1936-39, and also was a farmer.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and a former member of theArcadia Conservation Club.
Graveside services in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Lori Burdette-Steele officiating.
Visitation at the Engle-Young Funeral Home, Green Springs, will be one hour before time of the service Wednesday at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Howard J. Gaiser
Retired teacher/administrator
Howard J. Gaiser, 88, of 498 Front St., Upper Sandusky, died in Marion General Hospital at 1:40 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998.
He was born in Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Dec. 8, 1909, to George and Jennie (Kneebone) Gaiser. On June 24, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., he married
Leona Rossow. She survives.
Survivors also include: two daughters, Mrs. Dick (Judy) Latham of Upper Sandusky and Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Sarver of Findlay; three grandchildren, Luke Latham, Katie and Betsy Sarver; and nephews and a niece.
A brother, the Rev. Goerge Gaiser, preceded him in death.
Mr. Gaiser retired after 43 years as a science teacher in the Cleveland Public Schools and as administrator for the Cleveland Board of Education mostly at Rhodes High School and Mooney Junior High School.
He served four years in the U.S. Army, lastly in the Medical Administrative Corp., 47th Field Hospital, Hawaii.
A former member of the Orphan Male Chorus and the Cleveland Skating Club, he played tennis and enjoyed flower gardening.
Mr. Gaiser, who summered in Ontario, Canada, was a life member of ORTA and PTA and belonged to the Wyandot County and Cleveland Retired Teachers Association and the Ridge Road Church of Christ, Parma.
He attended the Cleveland Public Schools, graduated from Heidelberg College and Columbia University Teacher's College and attended Case School of Applied Science. He also served on the Bureau of Educational Research.
The Rev. Kenneth Wessler will be the officiant at the 1 p.m. Tuesday graveside service in Oak Hill cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be after noon Tuesday until time of the service.

Russell L. Fagan
Retired tool company owner/operator
Russell L. Fagan, 69, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at his residence at 996 Edgewood Drive, Upper Sandusky.
Born July 25, 1929, in Carey, to the late Russell L. and Gertrude (Chio) Fagan, he married
Miriam L. Morris, Sept. 3, 1950. She died Dec. 22, 1984. His second wife, Dorothy (Jacobs) Myers, whom he married
June 11, 1988, survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jerry M. of LaRue and Todd A. of Wharton; two daughters, Debra A. and Kathy J. Fagan, both of Upper Sandusky; three stepsons, Gregory Leathem of Clyde, Jeffrey Leathem of Knox Dale, Pa., and Patrick Leathem of Brookville, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Caudill and Karen Griswold, both of Upper Sandusky; 23 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and a sister, C. Jane Weaver, also of Upper Sandusky.
A brother, LaMoine Fagan, is deceased.
Mr. Fagan, who was affiliated with St. Paul Lutheran Church, was the founder and former operator of Fagan and Sons Tool Co., retiring in 1991. He previouslyhad worked at Med West Tool, also in Upper Sandusky.
A 1948 graduate of Carey High School, he was a band leader and drummer for the Russ Fagan Combo for more than 20 years.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Fagan was a member of Moose Lodge 1093, American Legion Post 225, AMVETS 777 and Eagles 2184. His company also sponsored bowling teams and he enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, camping and hunting and cruising in his 1966 Cadillac Convertible.
Services in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Raymond Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission cemetery, Upper Sandusky, where military graveside rites will be conducted by veterans organizations. Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wyandot County or the donor's choice.
Cletus D. Snyder
Farmer/feed and grain inspector
Cletus D. Snyder, 77, of 200 Orchard Drive, Upper Sandusky, died at 2:05 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.
He was born in Marion County July 11, 1921, to Harry C. and Margery (Sager) Snyder. His wife, Joellen "Jody" (Eisel) Snyder, whom he married
June 5, 1948, in Columbus, survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Mike S. of Louisville, Ky., and Kevin P. of Tiffin; two daughters, Molly K. Shenefield of Marion and Magen C. Snyder of Sycamore; five grandchildren; a brother, John R. of LaRue; and three sisters, Cecelia Leppo of Atlanta, Ga., Teresa Fields of New Bloomington and Elizabeth Hatcher of Bellefontaine.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Daniel.
Mr. Snyder, a member of the Ohio Highway Patrol Auxiliary, taught agriculture for five years through the Veteran Administration. He farmed until 1972, then worked as a feed and grain inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Northwest Ohio, retiring in 1985.
He and his wife owned and operated Clete andJody's Car wash for 12 years in Upper Sandusky.
A World War II U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he had served as a lector; Knights of Columbus 2050, of which he had been a past grand knight; American Legion Post 250 and former member of Elks 83, all of Upper Sandusky.
Following his retirement he lived in Avon Park, Fla., for 10 years and enjoyed playing cards and golf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Homler officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by veterans organizations.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 P.m. Tuesday at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, where the Rosary will be recited at 8:45 p.m.

William E. Phillips

William E. Phillips, 90, of West South Street, Fostoria, died at 4:38 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, Fostoria.
He was born in Middletown, Pa., Dec. 2, 1907, to Ervin and Bertha (Stark) Phillips. On May 18, 1929, in Elyria, he married
Geraldine Kline. She died July9, 1961. He married
Mable (Lambright) Noel Dec. 1, 1962, in Bloomville. She died Sept. 19, 1998.
Surviving are: a son, William C. of Patriot, Ohio; a daughter, Merlene K. Morel of Ft. Myers, Fla.; a brother, Donald Phillips of Canton; a sister, Helen Wickens of Lorain; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harry and Earl, and a sister, Edna Bailey, are deceased.
A 1926 graduate of Lorain High School, Mr. Phillips retired in 1968, after 35 years, from the Union Carbide Corp. in Fostoria, where he had been employed as a yard superintendent. He had attended Washington College, Washington, Pa.
He was a member of the Fostoria Lodge 288 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo, Zenobia Shrine of Toledo and Fostoria Eagles Lodge 430.
Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. R. Edson Reed officiating. Interment will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Lorain.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, where Masonic memorial services will be at 7.

Thelma M. Bishard
Former waitress/cook
Thelma M. Bishard, 68, formerly of Cambridge, died at 8:29 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at her home at 46 W. Perry St.
She was born in Cambridge July 31, 1930, to the late James and Ethel (Bichard) Casey. Her husband, Richard Bishard, survives in Tiffin.
Also surviving are two brothers, James Casey of Columbus and Roger Casey of Cambridge.
Mrs. Bishard had been employed as a waitress and cook at various restaurants in Cambridge and Tiffin.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 139 S. Ninth St., Cambridge, Ohio, where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Barbara Wienke officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memorial Gardens, Cambridge.
Matthew A. Kessler
Farmer/former Wyandot Dolomite employee
Matthew A. Kessler, 25, of 7330 CR 45, Carey, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, from injuries received in a farm-related accident late Saturday.
He was born Sept. 28, 1973, in Upper Sandusky, to Ralph E. and Linda A. (Maas) Kessler. They survive in Carey. His wife, Suzanne L. (Sink) Kessler, whom he married
Jan. 30, 1998, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Carey, also survives.
Other survivors include his paternal grandmother, Cartha G. Kessler of Findlay; maternal grandmother, Margaret E. Maas of Toledo; and a brother, Lance Kessler of Carey.
An infant brother, Luke, preceded him in death.
Mr. Kessler, a farmer, previously worked at Wyandot Dolomite in Carey for four years.
A 1992 Carey High School graduate, he was a member of the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, Sons of the American Legion Post 344 and Black-Lamberjack VFW Post 344 and the Carey Young Farmers, all of Carey.
He was the first Carey High School student to receive the American Farmer Degree of the Future Farmers of America in Kansas City, Mo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, with the Rev. Benjamin Knopp as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Carey.
Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, will be 2-5 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, where the Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. and a Scripture service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Marguerite 'Maggy' Krouse
Former Bettsville homemaker
Marguerite "Maggy" Krouse, 96, formerly of 300 Sullivan St., Bettsville, died at 4:57 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, in Autumnwood Care Center, where she had resided since Dec. 14, 1988.
She was born in Jackson Township, Seneca County, Dec. 31, 1901, to Glen and Della (Klotz) Steward. On Aug. 15, 1925, in Tiffin, she married
Galen Krouse. He preceded her in death March 6, 1976.
Survivors include: a son, Eugene L. Krouse of Franklin, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Pauline) Harkey of Clyde and Mrs. Wilbur (Helen) Windau of Fremont; 11 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and numerous step-great and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two grandchildren; three brothers, Willard, Reo and Ralph Steward; and a sister, Edna Snyder.
A homemaker, Mrs. Krouse was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Fostoria.
She had lived most of her life in the Bettsville area.
Services in the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville will be 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Robert Chew officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.
Visitation at the funeral home will be one hour before the service on Monday.

Beatrice L. Walters

Beatrice L. Walters, 87, 7 W. Market St., Tiffin, died at 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Mercy Hospital Emergency Care Center. She was born April 19, 1911, in Republic to Dwight and Jessie (Neikirk) Mason. Mrs. Walters was married
three times: James McCauley, married
in 1927, deceased in 1969; Walter Lowry, married
in 1969 and deceased in 1971; and John Walters, married
in 1979, deceased in 1993.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were two brothers, Melvin and Jennings Mason, and two sisters, Geneva Ryan and Leona Bare.
Mrs. Walters was a homemaker. Her memberships include: Trinity United Church of Christ, volunteer friendly visitor at various nursing homes, Mercy Hospital and downtown Senior Center, Mother's Circle at Trinity UCC and Kiwanis Senior Citizens.
The Rev. William Smith will officiate at the 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 8, 1998, service at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairwell, Retreat, Republic.
Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 7 at the funeral home, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin.
