Gertrude Zeller
Retired homemaker

Gertrude Zeller, 87, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin, where she resided.

She was born in Bellevue, July 2, 1910, to William R. and Lucy (Kiaber) Mattison. On Sept. 10, 1929, in the Reform Church, Bellevue, she married Alvin W. Zeller, and he is deceased.

Survivors include: two sons, Eugene A. Zeller of Tiffin and Alvin W. Zeller of Bellevue; two daughters, Clara D. Potts of Flat Rock and Carol Schneider of Bucyrus; 20 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margrite Shank of Willard.

A sister is also deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Zeller was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Services in the Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. John Ferne officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Seneca County Hospice, 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, Ohio.

Mildred F. Bauer
Retired Children's Center cook

Mildred F. Bauer, 88, 1695 S. Duchess Lane, died at 9:27 p.m. Monday, June 29, 1998, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Seneca County, the daughter of Franklin and Minnie (Wilkinson) Peer. Her husband, Chester C. Bauer, whom she married July 3, 1936, in Tiffin, preceded her in death March 21, 1988.

Surviving are two sons, Robert and Barbara and Donald and Vickie Bauer, all of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Herbert (Marie) McClellan of Tiffin; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Virgil and George Peer; and two grandsons, Dean Montz and Greg Bauer.

Mrs. Bauer retired as a cook from the Seneca County Children's Center and also had worked in the kitchen at the Kiwanis Manor for 10 years.

She was a 54-year member of the First Lutheran Church and also was a member of its Sunshine Class, Esther Circle and the Luther Fellowship.

The Rev. John Ferne will officiate at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore St. Interment will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, is 6-9 p.m. today and also at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Ruth E. Weimerskirch
Former Tiffin resident

Graveside services for former Tiffin resident, Ruth E. Weimerskirch, 78, of Sarasota, Fla, who died Tuesday, June 11, 1998, will be 11 a.m., Friday in St. Joseph cemetery.

Edison Earl Caudill
Atlas Crankshaft retiree

Edison Earl Caudill, 78, of 511 May St., Carey, died at 1:59 a.m. Monday, June 29, 1998, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born in Johnson County, Greasey Branch, Ky., May 21, 1920, to James and Julia E. (Conley) Caudill. On Aug. 4, 1941, he married Eva P. May. She died Jan. 27, 1985. He later married Shirley A. Snobarger-Dotson, Aug. 8, 1994, and she survives.

Other survivors include: five children, Ronald and James Roger Caudill and Patricia Sherman, all of Tiffin, Donald Caudill of Bascom and Mrs. Clifton (Malinda) Johns of Upper Sandusky; five step-children, Mrs. Tim (Antonia) Ahlberg, Mrs. Harry (Jane) Myers and William Dotson, all of Carey, Mrs. Danny (Ruth Ann) McAfee of Auburn, Ind. and Mrs. Fritz (Judith) Druckemiller of New London, Ohio; three grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 19 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Abner (Anita) May of McCutchenville and Beulah Fleming of Sycamore; and four brothers, James Jr. of Vanlue, Elbert Marvin of Carey, Harold of Sycamore and Charles of Tiffin.

A sister, Emogene Nichols, preceded him in death.

Mr. Caudill retired as an inspector in 1985 from the Atlas Crankshaft Corp. in Fostoria.

He was a member of Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church, Carey; Sarger Masonic Lodge 513, Lafayette; Scottish Rite Valley of Toledo and William Myers Chapter 196 Order Eastern Star, McCutchenville.

Services in Stoney Ridge United Baptist Church will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Elders Paul Blair and Denver Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens, Tiffin, where military graveside rites will be conducted.

Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, is 2-9 p.m. today, where Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice.

Leona Mae 'Skip' Liggett
Former Bettsville area resident

Word has been received of the death of Leona Mae "Skip" Liggett, 73, who died Saturday, June 27, 1998, in Somerset, Ky.

A long-time Bettsville area resident, she was born May 18, 1925, to George D. and Zetta L. (Shane) Milliron. Her husband, Gene Allen Liggett, preceded her in death in November 1978.

Surviving are three daughters, Bonnie Long of rural Burgoon, Shelly Neal of Somerset and Amy Sherman of Lakeland, Fla.; two sons, Marc Liggett of Bettsville and Joseph Liggett of Toledo; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Marvin Milliron of Bettsville.

Two brothers, Raymond and Ralph, preceded her in death.

An avid Tiger's fan and reader, Mrs. Liggett was a member of the Methodist Church and Bettsville American Legion Auxiliary Post 733.

Private services will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Bettsville Library.

Forest W. Moser
Retired farmer

Forest W. Moser, 75, died early Saturday morning, June 27, 1998, at his home in rural Attica.

He was born April 19, 1923, in Shiloh, to Levi and Florence (Croninger) Moser. On July 27, 1947, he married Yvonne I. Gangluff, and she survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Kenneth and his wife Dianne Moser of Cartersville, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Stephen (Jacqueline) Kofol of Sunnyvale, Calif. and Mrs. Joseph (Betty) Shell of New Washington; a sister, Kathryn Kooken of Columbus, Ga.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, William and Raymond Moser; and a sister, Dorothy LaPoint.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Moser retired from farming in 1985.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its dartball team.

The Rev. James E. Barkenquast will officiate at the 11 a.m. Wednesday service in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Attica-Venice cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Lindsey-Foos-Kocher Funeral Home, 1295 W. Tiffin St., Attica.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home.

James J. Windau
Brother of Tiffin residents

James J. Windau, 69, died Saturday morning, June 27, 1998, in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born in Sandusky, April 29, 1929, to the late Edward and Florence (Collings) Windau. His wife, Maxine (Medina) Windau, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Ms. Carla Windau and Mrs. Shawn (Laura) Nixon; a son, Jeffrey; two step-daughters, Mrs. Antionette Welch and Mrs. Alexis (Mona) Watts; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren, all of Arizona; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Esther Will of Sandusky, Mrs. Earl (Winifred) Lease and Mrs. Gene (Olive) Ruehle, both of Tiffin; and a brother, George Windau of Sandusky.

A brother, Norman, also is deceased.

Mr. Windau, a U.S. Navy veteran, was employed by the Nickleplate Railroad and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1986, after 34 years of service.

He most recently was employed by the Mesa Unified School District as a school bus driver.

He had attended St. Mary's High School.

Services are 11 a.m. today in St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Visitation was Monday in the Messinger Mortuary, Scottsdale.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 2145 S. Dobson Road, Mesa, Ariz., 85802 or the American Cancer Society.

The Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, is handling local arrangements.

Brian M. Mayer
1993 Calvert graduate

Brian M. Mayer, 23, of 4133 E. CR 50, Tiffin, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at his home.

He was born April 12, 1975, in Tiffin, to Rose (Brose) and James Mayer, who survive.

Other survivors are: two brothers, James A. II and Daniel W., both at home; a sister, Brenda Mayer of Olmsed Falls; a grandmother, Norma Mayer of Tiffin; and special friends Nicole and Gabe.

Three grandparents, Daniel B. Mayer and William and Louise Brose, preceded him in death.

A member of St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, Mr. Mayer was a 1993 graduate of Calvert High School and had been employed for four years at the Kroger Co. in Tiffin.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. James K. Say officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Clarence L. Stark
Retired assembler

Clarence L. Stark, 80, of 3095 E. CR 50, died Friday, June 26, 1998, in his home. Arrangements are pending at Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

Edwin Merritt Brown
Former Fostoria resident

Edwin Merritt Brown, 78, of Brookhaven Convalescent Center, Toledo, Ohio, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at the center. He formerly lived at 880 N. Loudon TR 47, Fostoria.

He was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Aloha Township, Cheboygan, Mich., to the late Wilfred and Eva Irene (Pallister) Brown. His first marriage was to Mildred Meister, who died in 1968. The following year, he married Edith Meister. She survives in Fostoria.

Also surviving are: two sons, Albert Brian Brown of Waterville and Bryce Justin Brown of North Lewisburg; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Brenda) Goshe of Fostoria and Mrs. James (Laura Elizabeth) Gorrill Jr. of Southfield, Mich.; and eight grandchildren.

His twin, Albert Henry, and another brother, John, are deceased.

Mr. Brown was a 1938 graduate of Cheboygan (Mich.) High School and served overseas during World War II. He owned and operated the Merchants Credit Bureau in Fostoria 1954-78 and had worked briefly for Fifth Third Bank and Heidelberg College in Tiffin. A member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, he was a member and founder of Fostoria Chapter of Toastmasters, where he served many years as an officer. He also belonged to United Conservation and Outdoor Association Inc., Findlay, and was a former member of Fostoria Kiwanis Club.

A funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with a rosary being recited at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Parish cemetery, Petoskey, Mich.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Margaret I. Zeis
Co-owner of Zeis Funeral home

Margaret I. Zeis, 83, of rural Tiffin, died at 5:45 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 1998, after a June 4th admittance to the Convoy Care Center, Convoy, Ohio. She was born in Crestline on June 7, 1915, to James and Pearl (McCurdy) Overly. Her first marriage was Oct. 31, 1942, to Forrest Zeis; he died in Nov. 21, 1982. On Sept. 16, 1984, she married George Zeis in Tiffin, and he survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Richard Zeis of Walker, Iowa; a daughter, Peg Zeis of Convoy, Ohio; a twin sister, Martha Ziebold of Fremont; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Zeis was a graduate of Crestline High School and the Tiffin Business University. She was a homemaker and co-owner, with her husband Forrest, of the Zeis Funeral Home. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church and attended the Congregational United Church of Christ, Naples, Fla. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a Past Matron.

The Rev. James Mussman will officiate the 2 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 1998, service at the Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Shiloh cemetery.

Visitation hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Marguerite Z. Zahn
Tiffin resident

Marguerite Z. Zahn, 97, of 182 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin died at 2:50 p.m., Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the St. Francis Home, Tiffin. She was born Dec. 25, 1900, in Carey to Frank and Rose (Brown) Simonis. In June 1921 she married L. Norman Zahn in Carey; he died in November 1957.

Surviving are: two sons, Donald Maurice Zahn of Moorehead City, N.C. and Wayne E. Zahn of Tiffin and Sanibel Island, Fla.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Giles and Cyril Simonis.

Mrs. Zahn was a high-school graduate and attended Tiffin University. She was a homemaker and her memberships were in the following organizations: St. Joseph Catholic Church; Garden Club of Wyandot County; Emblem Club; Rosary-Alter Society and the St. Francis Auxiliary.

The Rev. Richard Dunn will officiate the Memorial Mass at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 1998 at the St. Francis Home Chapel. Burial will be at Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

There will be no visitation hours.

Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Home; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Roger A. Mehrman
Former area resident

Roger A. Mehrman, 46, of Columbus, formerly of Fostoria and Tiffin, died at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Doctors Hospital, Columbus. He was born Nov. 5, 1951, in Fostoria to Henry and Elenore (Drenning) Mehrman; his father had passed away.

Surviving are: his mother, Mrs. Ernest (Elenore) Bowman of Fostoria; two brothers, Terry D. Mehrman of Fostoria and Robert E. Mehrman of Tiffin; and a sister, Mrs. William Allen (Margo) Long of Denver, CO.

Mr. Mehrman was a 1969 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He attended the Ohio State University, Tiffin University and Mount Vernon Bible College, receiving a bachelor

s degree in 1982. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He became pastor and member with the Living Word Christian Ministries in Columbus. He was active in the American Red Cross, manned a community action hot-line, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Columbus. A very active member in the state Republican party, he was selected to be Outstanding Young Man in America in 1987. Mr. Mehrman was also a past board member of the Tiffin Boy Rangers.

The Rev. Jerry L. Morgan will officiate the 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 29, 1998, service at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. He will be buried at the Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, June 28 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Four Square Gospel Church, Fostoria.
