Kenneth Gillett
Retired dairy farmer

Kenneth Gillett, 78, of 213 N. Main St., Attica, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Quality Care Nursing Center, Willard, after an illness of several months. He was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Attica to LaVern and Hazel (Hartman) Gillet. On June 15, 1961, he married Mary Acker, and she died in May 1997.

Survivors are: seven nephews, Robert Claus of Shelby, Richard Claus of Westerville, Eugene Claus and Frederick Claus of Galion, Thomas Claus of North Robinson, Ralph Claus Jr. of Bucyrus, and Eric Gillett of Attica; five nieces, Roxanne Claus of Bucyrus, Karen (Gillett) Kishman of Huron, Debra (Gillett) Wilt of Bascom, Tammy Gillett of Tiffin, and Kimberly (Gillett) Ball of Attica; two step-sons, Carl King of Toledo and Donald King of Attica.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Maxine Claus; and two brothers, Chester and Russell Gillett.

Mr. Gillett was a dairy farmer, retiring in 1976. He was very involved in harness racing. He was a member of Attica Eagles 4112 and former Attica Fair Board Member for many years.

The Rev. Malcolm J. Brook will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 1998, service at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville. Burial will be at Attica-Venice cemetery in Attica.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., today, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Willard Mercy Hospital Foundation.

James A. Gernert
Former resident

James A. Gernert, 56, of 84 East North Ave., East Palestine, Ohio, formerly from Tiffin and Republic, died at 1:22 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the Salem Community Hospital where he was admitted after becoming ill at home. He was born Jan. 17, 1942, in Tiffin to Mary A. (Garvin) Gernert and the late Charles J. Gernert. On July 1, 1967, he married Virginia Smith; she survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Miss Ann C. Gernert of New Waterford, Ohio; a brother, Michael C. Gernert of Columbiana, Ohio; and his grandmother, Mrs. Lenora Garvin of North Lima, Ohio.

Mr. Gernert was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Marines from 1960 to 1964, followed by a two-year tour of duty with the U.S. Navy from 1964 through 1966. For the past four years, he had been employed with ER Advanced Ceramics, East Palestine. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of East Palestine.

The Rev. William Zeyer will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, June 27, 1998, service at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home, 644 East Main St., East Palestine, Ohio 44413. Burial will be at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens, New Waterford.

Visitation hours are from 7-9 p.m., today at the funeral home.

The family has asked that Memorial tributes take the form of donations to the East Palestine Emergency Medical Technicians.

William T. Mizen Jr.
American Standard retiree

William T. Mizen Jr., 83, 253 Union St., died at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Autumnwood Care Center.

He was born in Tiffin, Dec. 30, 1914, to William T. Sr. and Viola (Bowers) Mizen. On April 9, 1939, in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, he married Florence Smith. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, William T. III and Thomas E. Mizen, both of Tiffin; eight daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Elizabeth) Agerter, Mrs. Ted (Diana) Distel and Mrs. Joe (Debora) Kubes, all of Tiffin, Mrs. Roger (Evelyn) Dearsman of Green Springs, Carolyn Mizen of Springfield, Mrs. Steven (Nancy) Baker of Danville, Mrs. Harold (Mary Lou) Powell of Union City, Pa. and Mrs. Willie (Shirley) Frazier of Wharton; a brother, Eugene Mizen of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Albert, John and Thomas Mizen; two sisters, Margaret Eisenhard and Laverne Hull; and a grandchild.

Mr. Mizen, a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, retired in 1979 as a caster from the American Standard, after 42 years of employment.

He was a member of Eagles Aerie 402 and during the 1930s the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where Eagles services will be at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Cancer Society, Community Hospice Care or the donor's choice.

Wilma L. Lanker
Former supermarket employee

Wilma L. Lanker, 85, of West Culbertson St., Fostoria, died in the Independence House, Fostoria, at 8:57 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998.

She was born in Arcadia, Aug. 20, 1912, to Nicholas and Goldie (Roller) Fox. Her husband, Forest Lanker, whom she married April 24, 1940, in Bloomdale, is deceased.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Janice) Piper of McComb and Mrs. Norbert (Lona) Collet of Fostoria; a brother, Roller Fox of Fostoria; a sister, Mrs. Leola Myers of Findlay; and eight grandchildren.

A brother, Irvin Fox, also is deceased.

Mrs. Lanker, a graduate of Arcadia High School, had been employed as a clerk in the meat department at the White Front Super Market (now Lewis IGA) in Fostoria, where she worked for 20 years.

She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria and the Fostoria Women's Club.

The Rev. Jeffrey Waite will officiate at the 1 p.m. Saturday service in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria Chapel. Interment will be in Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to High Street United Methodist Church, 243 W. High St., Fostoria, Ohio 44830.

Lucas Allen Levering
Excavating company employee

Lucas Allen Levering, 19, of 14266 TH 96, Upper Sandusky, where he resided all his life, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, following a construction site accident on SR 12, west of Fostoria.

He was born in Marion, June 17, 1979, the son of Mark E. and Darlene M. (Moore) Levering. They survive in rural Upper Sandusky.

Survivors also include: maternal grandparents, Basil and Mary Jane Moore of McCutchenville; paternal grandparents, John and Elfreda Layne of Upper Sandusky and James and Joetta Levering of Marion; great-grandmothers, Helen Moore of Upper Sandusky and Ruth Mustard of Bucyrus; and two siblings, Marcus F. and Matthew S., both at home.

While attending high school Mr. Levering was employed at Wilson's Tires and battery in Upper Sandusky; later at Guardian Industries in Upper Sandusky and for the past year at the J.D.R. Excavating Co., Findlay.

A 1997 Upper Sandusky High School graduate, while in high school he was active in FFA and the Youth to Youth Club. He also played Midget League Football and wrestled in junior high and his freshman year.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles and snowmobiles and had a special love for the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and swimming.

Services in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. E.B. Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rowland cemetery, rural Upper Sandusky.

Visitation at the funeral home is 5-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Kenneth Gillett

Daniel N. Bianchi
Mohawk High School student

Daniel N. Bianchi, 14, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, 1998, at his home at 7971 CH 5, McCutchenville.

He was born in Upper Sandusky, Sept. 27, 1983, the son of Jack and Darlene (Slavey) Bianchi. They survive in rural McCutchenville.

Other survivors include: maternal grandparents, Robert and Sharon Slavey Sr. of Sycamore; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Evelyn Stewart of rural Sycamore; maternal great-great-grandmother, Mrs. Crystal Bogard of Upper Sandusky; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Jane Slavey of Upper Sandusky; and five siblings, Jack M. Bianchi of Upper Sandusky, Melody, Sarah and Samuel Bianchi and Bobby Slavey, all at home.

A student at Mohawk High School, where he would have been a freshman, Daniel attended Harvest Time Chapel in Vanlue.

He was a former player in the Upper Sandusky Midget football league and he liked to fish in his spare time.

Services in Harvest Time Chapel, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Bob Turner officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the family, in care of the Walton-Moore Funeral Home.

Charles E. Dewald
Worthington Plastics employee

Charles E. Dewald, 48, 88 Elwood St., died at 1:31 p.m. Monday, June 22, 1998, in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born Oct. 3, 1949, in Tiffin, to the late Herman and Ruth (Todd) Dewald.

Survivors include: two brothers, Ulysses Todd of Tiffin and Richard Dewald of Sandusky.

A brother, David A. Dewald, preceded him in death.

Mr. Dewald, a former member of the Avenger's Motorcycle Club, was employed as a forklift operator for 10 years at Worthington Custom Plastics in Upper Sandusky.

The Rev. John Teeters will conduct the 10 a.m. Friday service in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Colleen L. Benner
Former Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Colleen L. Benner, 70, formerly of rural Tiffin, who died Friday, June 12, 1998, at her home at 971 Feather Drive, Box 4, Copperopolis, Calif., 95228.

She was born in Tiffin, May 28, 1928, to the late Wesley and Mable Shumway Jr. On July 13, 1946, she married Thomas C. Benner, who survives in Copperopolis.

Other survivors include a son Tim Benner of Copperopolis; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas F. (Patricia) Young of Upper Sandusky; two brothers Gerald Shumway of Mt. Blanchard and Joe Shumway of Green Springs; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Benner, a homemaker, was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

Interment was in Angel Camp, California.

Charles E. Dewald
Elwood Street resident

Charles E. Dewald, 48, 88 Elwood St., died in the Emergency Care Center of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, at 1:31 p.m. Monday, June 22, 1998. Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Leo Mack
Tiffin resident

Leo Mack of Tiffin, died at 9:36 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 1998, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. Arrangements are pending at the Golubski Funeral Home of Cleveland.

Velma G. Holm
Homemaker/violinist

Velma G. Holm, 97, of 16178 E. TR 12, Attica, died Saturday evening, June 20, 1998, in Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, following a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 10, 1901, in Lykens, to William H. and Louise (Durr) Fike. On Sept. 23, 1922, she married Harold D. Holm. He preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1995.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Joan Spaulding of Fremont; a granddaughter, Susan Spaulding Combs of Eaton; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jeanette Dutrow of Tiffin and Bernice Brell of Maumee.

Also preceding her in death was a brother, Clayton Fike.

Mrs. Holm, a homemaker, was an accomplished violinist. She studied music at the Lyceum Arts Conservatory in Chicago and joined the Lyceum and Chautauqua Touring Company as first violinist and company manager, until she married .

She was a member, for more than 70 years, of the following: Attica United Methodist Church, Women's Literary Guild, the 1917 Club and Sappho Chapter Order Eastern Star of Attica.

A 1919 graduate of Bloomville High school, she had attended the Frog Pond one-room school.

Services in the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. SR 19, Bloomville, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Raymond Peters and Pastor James Avers of the Faith Lutheran Church, Fremont, officiating. Burial will be in Brokensword cemetery, Brokensword.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 11 a.m. Wednesday until time of the service.

Memorials may be made to the Attica United Methodist Church music department or a charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth E. Weimerskirch
Former Tiffin resident

Word has been received of the death of Ruth E. Weimerskirch, 78, formerly of Tiffin, who died Thursday, June 11, 1998, in Sarasota, Fla.

She was born Dec. 3, 1919, in England and came to Sarasota 14 years ago from Tiffin.

Surviving are her husband, Elmer H. Weimerskirch; a daughter, Beverly Hartman of Tiffin; a sister, Dorothy Fry of Norwich, Norfolk, England; a brother, William Fry of Norwich; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Weimerskirch was a member of Catholic Church of the Incarnation.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday, in the Catholic Church of the Incarnation. Direct Mortuary Services/Sun Coast Crematory, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Church of the Incarnation, 2929 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Fla. 34239 or the American Cancer Society, 1750 17th St., Suite A., Sarasota, Fla. 34234.

George Ray Huston
Ohio Edison employee/truck farmer

George Ray Huston, 76, of 6195 E. SR 101, Clyde, died unexpectedly Friday, June 12, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Guersey County, Washington Township, to Fred and Jennie (Huston) Nay. On July 22, 1949, he married Marilyn E. Murphy, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Timothy (Melanie) Taylor and Mrs. Dean (Melinda) Auxter, both of Clyde; two sons, Ronald R. Huston of Bellevue and William Huston of Zanesville, and eight grandchildren.

A truck farmer, Mr. Huston also was employed as a senior agricultural representative with Ohio Edison for 32 years, retiring in October, 1985. He also taught vocational agriculture at Union Local in Richland County for five years.

He was a member of the Townsend and Pamona Granges, the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, where he had served on various committees; Townsend Ruitan, where he aided in starting several local Ruritan Clubs and served as the zone governor and held many offices. He was serving his third term as Townsend Township Trustee and was currently serving in the Erie/Hurd County Rural Water Authority.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having played on its baseball team, he was a life member of Clyde VFW; helped start the Townsend Little League and enjoyed fruit and vegetable farming.

The last of his family, he had resided in the Clyde area since 1953, coming there from Mansfield.

A 1939 graduate of Newcomertown High School, he graduated in 1948 from the Ohio State University, where he also played baseball.

Services in the First United Methodist Church, Clyde, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Parkhurst cemetery, Clyde, with military graveside services provided by the Clyde VFW and American Legion.

Visitation at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 2-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to Townsend Ruritan or the First United Methodist Church operating fund.
