Janice N. Beardsley
Retired practical nurse/Bloomville native

Janice N. Beardsley, 78, of 1469 Eastshore Drive, Findlay, died at 5:22 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

She was born in Bloomville, Feb. 25, 1920, to Royal A. and Gladys (Firestone) Ballfinch. On Dec. 22, 1954, she married Charles G. Beardsley and he preceded her in death March 5, 1995.

Surviving are a step-son, Gary Beardsley of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, S. Jean Honse of Findlay; three step-daughters, Mrs. Robert (Shirley) Jensen of Oceanside, Calif., Mrs. Kathy Iverson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Joan Beardsley of San Diego; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and a sister, also preceded her in death.

A member of Trinity Baptist Church, Mrs. Beardsley was a retired practical nurse.

Services in the Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, Findlay, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Gene Milioni officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Norine M. Wurm
St. Joseph cafeteria worker

Norine M. Wurm, 91, formerly of 255 Gross St., died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 1998, in St. Francis Home, Tiffin, where she resided. Arrangements are pending at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home.

Russell J. Brunover
Conrail Railroad retiree

Former Tiffin resident, Russell J. Brunover, 79, died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 1998, in the Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky, where he had resided since December 1993.

He was born in Bay Bridge, Ohio, July 15, 1918, to Jacob and Emma (Manskey) Krafty. His wife, Evelyn M. (Conkey) Brunover, is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia Wurm of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two grandchildren Stephen Schiffler of Gray Town and Becky Brown of Toledo and three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Brunover of Fremont.

Mr. Brunover, a graduate of Fremont High School, retired from the Con Rail Railroad in 1978.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant of Troop B 86th Calvary Reconnaissance (3rd Armored Division) in Normandy, France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received a good conduct medal, Legion of Merit, Service medal with five bronze stars and three purple hearts.

He also was active, for many years, as an advisor in the Seneca County 4-Hhorse program.

There will be no services. Private burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m. today at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Margaret Gottwald
Homemaker

Margaret Gottwald, 86, of 6481 SR 100, Sycamore, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 1998, at the home of her granddaughter, Lorie Frost.

She was born May 19, 1912, in Lorain, to Julus and Martha (Bernitsky) Hartman. Her husband, Fred Frank Gottwald, whom she married Aug. 28, 1933, in Cleveland, died Nov. 15, 1977.

Surviving are a son, Richard Gottwald of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Helen Gibson of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Raymond Gottwald, who died in 1995; five brothers, Harold, Pete, Henry, Paul and Arthur Hartman; and five sisters, Hazel Gottwald, Edith Dietrich, Clara O'Connor, Loretta Babics and Lillian Grubbs.

A homemaker, Mrs. Gottwald was a member of the Evangelical Faith Fellowship.

Formerly of Old Fort and Tiffin, she had resided at her present residence for five years.

The Rev. Tim Grimes will officiate at the 1:30 p.m. Thursday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Union cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Alice Louise Keegan
Homemaker/factory employee

Alice Louise Keegan, 75, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at her residence on West Morgan Street, Green Springs.

She was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Green Springs, in the home where she had lived her lifetime, to William F. and Samantha O. (Alspaugh) Swartz. On Dec. 11, 1940, she married Mervin J. Keegan and he survives.

Survivors also include: four sons, Daniel and David Keegan, both of Green Springs, Donald Keegan of Fremont and Ronald Keegan of Clyde; five daughters, Mrs. Karen Bauman of Fort Seneca, Mrs. Paul (Sandra) Danklefsen and Mrs. Norman (Darlene) Hollis, both of Fremont, Mrs. David (Cinda) Stout of Green Springs and Mrs. Michael (Kimberly) Clevinger of Republic; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian Wendling of Tiffin.

A grandchild, a great-grandchild; eight sisters, Jennie Mae Cascaden, Alma Herner, Edna Smith, Olive Kimball, Nora Weatherbee, Ellen Swartz, Mabel Hooten and Treva Swartz; and three brothers, LeRoy, Chester and Ralph Swartz, are deceased.

Mrs. Keegan, who received her education in the Green Springs Schools, was a homemaker and also worked as a laborer at S.E. Nyman, formerly in Fremont, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Green Springs VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Kevin Pinkerton officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, where VFW Auxiliary services will be at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mabel Ferne Dininger
Rural Sycamore homemaker

Mabel Ferne Dininger, 90, formerly of 129 New Washington Road, Sycamore, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 1998, in Wyandot Manor, Upper Sandusky.

Born Dec. 13, 1907, in Wyandot County, the daughter of Jacob Fredrick and Mettie Augusta (Bryan) Sloman, she married Wilbur J. Dininger, Dec. 24, 1938. He died Aug. 10, 1997.

Survivors include: a son, Neil E. Dininger of rural Sycamore; two daughters, Mrs. Terry (Norma Jean) Gast of Northwood and Mrs. William (Joyce) Linn of Grove City; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Also deceased are a grandson, a step-great-grandson and a brother, Bryan B. Sloman.

A homemaker, Mrs. Dininger was a member of Plankton United Methodist Church, its Progressive Sunday School Class, where she had taught for many years and the Crawford County Farm Bureau.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with the Rev. Lee Peters officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Sycamore.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Charles F. Wagner
Retired Kelsey Hayes Foundry employee

Charles F. Wagner, 71, of Sandusky Co. Rd. 175, Clyde, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998 at Fremont Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 23, 1926, to Emmanuel and Caroline (Zehner) Wagner; both have passed away. On Jan. 7, 1950, he married Alice Durnwald and she survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Junior (Mary) Lopez of Clyde; five brothers, Donald, Albert, Gilbert, Vincent, and Thomas, all of Fremont; a sister, Sr. Mary Margaret of Whitehouse, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were four brothers, William, John, Nicholas, and Paul Wagner; and an infant sister.

Mr. Wagner was a graduate of St. Joseph High School, a U.S. Army war veteran, and worked as cuplow tender at Kelsey Hayes Foundry. He retired in 1991. He was a member of the Fremont Moose and St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont. Burial will be St. Joseph cemetery.

Visitation hours are from 3-9 p.m., Sun., Sept. 13, at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde with Christian wake services at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph High School Education Fund.

Monna I. Altvater
Co-owner Altvater Marathon Dist.

Monna I. Altvater, 68, of 14664 U.S. Rte. 30, Upper Sandusky, died in her home at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998. She was born June 18, 1930, to Raymond L. and Maude (Clinger) Foltz; both are deceased. On April 9, 1950, she married Clair Mike Altvater in her parents' home, and he survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Fredrick R. Altvater of Bluffton, Daniel L. Altvater of Upper Sandusky, and Patrick M. Altvater of Arlington, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Foltz.

Mrs. Altvater was a homemaker, co-owner and secretary of C & M Altvater Marathon Distributors for 45 years. She graduated in 1948 from Mt. Blanchard High School. Member of the former Bethany Lutheran Church choir, choir director, church pianist, and superintendent of the Children's Sunday School. She was an active member of the Bethany-North Salem Lutheran Church choir, pianist and member of Women of the Church. A past president of Bethany-Wharton Hospital Guild, past County officer of the Hospital Guild, and Friendly Visitation Hospital Guild, former Upper Sandusky High School music parent and Ram Boosters member, Salem Grange, and former Lincoln Grange.

The Rev. John Baker will officiate the 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 12, 1998, service at the North Salem Lutheran Church, rural Upper Sandusky. Burial will be at the Schoenberger cemetery, west of Upper Sandusky.

Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m today at the Bringman-Clark Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Memorials may be made to: North Salem Lutheran Church; Wyandot Memorial Hospital; Diabetic Association; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Virginia Hogue
Bellevue resident

Mary Virginia Hogue, 91, of 6911 Sandusky Cty. Rd. 191, Bellevue, died in the Bellevue Hospital Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, from a brief illness. She was born March 20, 1907, to Charles Alonzo and Margaret E. (Davis) Cox in Columbus. On July 18, 1928, she married John F. Hogue; he died in 1974.

Surviving include: a son, Dwight D. Hogue of Bellevue; a half-sister, Winifred Dolly (Cox) Van Dyke of Delaware, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Gary Ronald Hogue; a sister and four brothers.

Mrs. Hogue owned and operated Hogue's Market in Shelby from 1945 to 1961, then co-founded Hogue's IGA in Bellevue in 1961 in partnership with her husband and son. She retired in 1988. Memberships included: Seybert United Methodist Church; Four County Young at Heart Senior Citizens; Lyme Village Historic Society; E.O. Merry Chapter 13; Order of Eastern Star, all of Bellevue, and Town and Country Theatre, Norwalk.

The Rev. Joseph E. Sopher, pastor of Seybert United Methodist Church, will officiate the 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, service at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Bellevue. Burial will be at the Bellevue cemetery.

Visitation hours are 3-9 p.m., today at the Foos & Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue.

Memorials may be made to: Seybert United Methodist Church, 422 W. Main St. Bellevue; Bellevue Hospital Foundation, 811 Northwest St., Bellevue; and Four County Young at Heart, 690 Flat Rock Rd., Bellevue.

Dale John Thorbahn
Area resident

Dale John Thorbahn, 61, of Oak Harbor, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, at H.B. Magruder Hospital, Port Clinton. He was born on July 4, 1937, to Carl and Marie (Schultz) Thorbahn-Overmeyer. On August 6, 1977, in Swanton, Ohio, he married Evelyn C. Gaietto, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Daniel D. (Brenda) Thorbahn, and Douglas D. (Michelle) Thorbahn, all of Oak Harbor; three step-sons, Mark Potteiger of Fostoria, Jeffery (Linda) Potteiger of Tiffin, and Richard (Jenna) Potteiger of Maumee; a step-daughter, Jayne (Kurt) Ragon of Arlington, Texas; a brother, Melvin (Donna Lou) Thorbahn of Newark, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and one great-step-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were a son, Dennis "Denny" Thorbahn; a step-son, Gary Potteiger; and step-father, Fred Overmeyer.

Mr. Thorbahn had been working as a mechanic for Tri Motors Sales, Inc., Oak Harbor for the past 20 years. Prior to this, he was a co-owner of DDM Sales and Services, Oak Harbor, and also was a mechnic for Nehls Sales and Srvice, Oak Harbor. Mr. Thorbahn was a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church; Masonic Lodge 495 F & AM, where he served as a member of the Fellow Craft Team; Portage Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years, in which he served as fire chief from 1973-1975; Toussaint Founders Club; and he enjoyed playing euchre.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 13, 1998, at the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor.

Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at the Robinson-Henn-Brossia Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, from 2-9 p.m., with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Portage Township Volunteer Fire Department will conduct services at7 p.m. on Saturday evening and the Masonic Lodge 495 F & AM will conduct services at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union cemetery, Oak Harbor.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Oak Harbor United Methodist Church; Portage Township Volunteer Fire Department; or the Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge 495 F & AM.

Lloyd E. Robinson
Former Tiffin resident

Lloyd E. Robinson, 80, formerly of 1379 W. Woodland Ave., Tiffin, of Gibsonburg Health Care Center since 5/11/97, died at 10:33 a.m., Sept. 10, 1998. Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Beverly Jean Messmer
Westinghouse Inc. retiree

Beverly Jean Messmer, 65, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at her residence at 811 E. Findlay St., Lot 26, Carey.

She was born in Carter County, Wilson Creek, Ky., July 23, 1933, to the late Hartford Alexander and Nancy Margaret (Brown) Nunley. Her husband, Charles W. Messmer, whom she married April 7, 1954, in Liberty, Ind., survives.

Other survivors include: Two sons, Charles E. Messmer of Nevada and William D. Messmer of Carey; three daughters, Mrs. Steven (Pamela) Gossman and Mrs. Roger (Brenda) Phillips, both of Carey and Mrs. Kenneth (Babs L.) Atwell of Upper Sandusky; 15 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Geneva Deal of Carey, Fred Nunley of Argillite, Ky., Mrs. Ed (Evelyn) Warden of Springfield, Joan Morrison of Ashland, Ky., Phillip Nunley of Rush, Ky., James Ray Nunley of Graceland, Ky. and Mrs. Marshall (Doris) Barr of Shepherdville, Ky.

Preceding her in death were two brothers, Hartford Jr. and Donald Edward Nunley; and a sister, Virginia Halterman.

Mrs. Messmer, a member of the Carey Conservation Club, retired from Westinghouse Inc. in Upper Sandusky.

She also was a member of Harvest Time Chapel, Vanlue, and her hobbies include playing the banjo, quilting and canning.

The Rev. Ray Fischer will be the officiant at the 2 p.m. Saturday service in the Harvest Time Chapel. Burial will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday and at the church 1 p.m. until time of the service Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the Beverly Messmer Memorial Fund, in care of Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, Ohio 43316-1169.

Paul Eugene Pence
Brother of Tiffin residents

Memorial services for Paul Eugene Pence, 68, who died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, will be 3:30 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church of Destin, Beach Drive, Destin, Fla.

He was born in Bellefontaine and lived in the Destin area for many years and was well known by the whole Destin fleet.

Surviving are a friend, Ms. Lois Mann and her children, Tim and Donna Barnett, Greg Mann, Cindy McCabe and grandchildren; three brothers, Ronald Pence of Foley, Ala., Richard Pence of Macedonia and Olin Pence of Fremont; and five sisters, Jean Mann and Barbara Gatton, both of Tiffin, Cintra Eshenbrenner of Akron, Judy Bernard of Clyde and Sharon Banister of Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Pence, a great fisherman, was well known for his inventions. He enjoyed the ocean and helped many fishermen to fish and also protect the turtle population.

Following the memorial service family and friends will depart for the harbor to return his ashes to the Gulf which he loved.

The Little Chapel Funeral Home, 910 Beal Parkway, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., is in charge of arrangements.
