William David Durst Sr.
Whirlpool Corp retiree

William David Durst Sr., 82, of SR 412, Clyde, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998.

He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Fountainhill, Ark., to Kenneth and Mary (McClain) Durst. On Aug. 12, 1950, he married Rena Marie Smyser. She survives in Clyde.

Other survivors include: a son, William Durst Jr. of Canal Winchester, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Shaw of Clyde and Donna Durst of Worthington; two step-sons, Robert E. Kerlin of Fremont and William J. Kerlin of Clyde; a step-daughter, Mrs. Richard (Joanne) Chapman of Clyde; four grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, 44 step-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed Durst of Florida; and two sisters, Ella Mae Fausey of Green Springs and Edna Patten of Clyde.

Two brothes, Alvin and Laurence Durst; and a step-great-grandson, are deceased.

Mr. Durst, who received his education in the Lime Township Schools in the Bellevue area, retired in 1978 as an assembler from Whirlpool Corp., Clyde, after 26 years of employment.

An avid bowler he was a member of the Ohio Half Arabian Association and Whirlpool Management Club.

Services in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, will be 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Duane Dunfee officiating. Interment will be in Bakertown cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday until time of the service at 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Peggy J. Parkhurst
Rural Vickery homemaker

Peggy J. Parkhurst, 47, of CR 263, Vickery, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 5, 1998, in St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, Ohio.

She was born in Sandusky, Nov. 17, 1950, the daughter of Richard G. II and Doris (Hoelzer) Ryan. Her mother survives in Castalia. Her husband, Cleve S. Parkhurst, whom she married Aug. 21, 1970, survives.

Survivors also include: a son, Tyson S. Parkhurst of Vickery; a daughter, Kelly Parkhurst, at home; and a sister, Mrs. Terry (Dianne) Baumeister of Huron.

A brother, Thomas Ryan, died in 1968; and her father is also deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Parkhurst was an advisor of the Townsend Tom Boys 4-H Club and active in Margaretta School activities and the PTO.

She was a 1968 graduate of Margaretta High School and had been employed by the Margaretta Local Schools at Townsend School.

The Rev. Catherine Schibler will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Burial will be in Parkhurst cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

E. Dorcas Powell

Retired cafeteria employee/homemaker

E. Dorcas Powell, 95, formerly of 123 S. Muncie St., Carey, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, May 22, 1998, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky.

She was born Dec. 9, 1902, in Springville, Seneca County, to Forest and Selda (Foos) Phillips. Her husband, Wayne E. Powell, whom she married June 3, 1924, preceded her in death May 1, 1987.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Norma) Wenner of Powell, Ohio; a son, David Powell of Strongsville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The last of her family, she also was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Lon Phillips, and five sisters, Clara Smith, Mary Sublett, Martha Dame, Alice Kummerer and Ruth Powell.

A homemaker, Mrs. Powell retired as a cafeteria employee from the Carey Public Schools. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church, Carey.

Services in Memorial United Methodist Church will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Brett Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, will be 2-9 p.m. Monday and at the church one-half hour before the service on Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the church or the Wyandot County Nursing Home Activity Fund.

Dennis L. LeJeune
Retired steeplejack

Dennis L. Le Jeune, 56, 49 Longfellow Drive, died in St. Francis Home Friday morning, May 29, 1998, following an illness of several months.

He was born Jan. 27, 1942, to the late Lawrence and Audrey (Smith) Le Jeune.

His girlfriend of five years, Burdella Enders of Tiffin, survives.

Preceding him in death were a brother, John Hambly; and an infant sister.

A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Le Jeune had been employed by Scholman Co. of Bellevue as a steeplejack, retiring in 1968. He had attended Fremont Ross High School.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, Bloomville.

Judith A. Wiczynski
Key punch operator

Judith A. Wiczynski, 60, died Friday, May 29, 1998, at her residence at 859 Miami St., Apt. 9. Arrangements are pending at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home.

John D. Nims
Rural Tiffin resident

John D. Nims, 80, of North SR 101, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 29, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center, where he had been a patient for a day. Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.

Suzanne Thompson
Registered nurse

Suzanne Thompson, 40, of 664 Willowby Run, Pasadena, Md., died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 1998, at the home of her sister in Tiffin.

She was born Aug. 11, 1957, in Tampa, Fla., to Stanley and Frances (Magalski) Thompson. Her father survives in Sayre, Pa.

Other survivors include: three sisters, Sandi Hill of Port Orange, Fla., Donna Thompson of Endicott, N.Y., and Pam Faber of Tiffin; and three brothers, Stanley Thompson of Greensburg, Pa., Dana Thompson of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Nathan Thompson of Fort Drum, N.Y.

Her mother is deceased.

A 1975 graduate of Waverly, Ohio, High School and a 1978 graduate of Binghamton, N.Y., General Hospital School of Nursing, Ms. Thompson had been employed as a registered nurse at Baltimore General Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

Services in the Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel, Pa., will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, with the Rev. Ron Onder officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, Pa.

Visitation at the Wilson Funeral Home, will be 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Community Hospice Care, 182 rear, St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, OH 44883.

The Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

E. Pauline Hirt
42-year pharmacy employee

E. Pauline Hirt, 73, of East Maple St., Clyde, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 28, 1998, in the Bellevue Hospital.

She was born April 6, 1925, in Clyde, to John Brutcher and Ethel (Dearsman) Brutcher Mears. Her husband, Warren Hirt, whom she married June 12, 1948, survives.

Survivors also include: two sons, Thomas D. Hirt of Blacksburg, Va., andTimothy S. Hirt of Zionsville, Ind.; a daughter, Susan Collins of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren; three brothers, John Brutcher of Fremont, Ronald Brutcher of Bassett, Va., and Robert Brutcher of Monroeville; and a sister, Mrs. James (Kathrynn) Ritchey of Clyde.

A brother, Doyle L. Brutcher, is deceased.

Mrs. Hirt, a lifetime resident of the Clyde area, had been employed at Whitaker Drug, Jennings Pharmacy and Seaman's Pharmacy, for a combined total of 42 years.

A 1943 Clyde High School graduate, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde; and the Board of Elections in Clyde for more than 25 years.

The Rev. Stephen Wood will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday service in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, West Forest Street, Clyde.

Robert Neile Somers Jr.
City of Tiffin employee

Robert Neile Somers Jr., 59, of 382 Wentz St., died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1998, at his home.

He was born May 8, 1939, in Tiffin to Robert Neile Somers Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Binsack Somers. On Jan. 2, 1962, in Marion, he married Rita Jowan Greer. She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Frederick J. Crooksville, Ohio, Bernard A. Vondenberg of Marion, and David A. and Robert J. Somers, both of Tiffin; four daughters, Rebecca J. Rose of Findlay, and Mary D. Biller, Mrs. Victor (Lori L.) Botton and Mrs. Greg (Dawn A.) Hefner, all of Tiffin; 23 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Joseph E. Somers of Bloomville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Ann Elizabeth Somers, and a grandson, Shannon Vondenberg.

Mr. Somers was a 1957 graduate of Calvert High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was an employee of the Public Works Department for the City of Tiffin. A member of St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, he was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Seneca County Muzzle Loaders.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Tueday at St. Joseph Church, where a rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Fairwell-Retreat cemetery, Republic, with military graveside rites conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, 214 S. Monroe St. There is no visitation on Monday.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care of Tiffin.

Mary Louise King
Resident of Fostoria

Mary Louise King, 58, of Dillon Circle Home, Fostoria, died Monday, May 18, 1998, in Fostoria Hospital.

She was born March 19, 1940, in Hopewell Township, Seneca County, to the late Marion and Olive Mae (Summer) King.

Survivors include: three sisters, Mrs. Ned (Regina) Bixler of Port Clinton, Mrs. Alex (Barbara) Molnar of Woodland, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Nancy) Adams of Seattle, Wash.; an uncle, Ray Mowery of Tiffin; and two aunts, Rita King of Republic and Dorothy Miller of Bascom.

The Rev. Joseph Szybka will conduct graveside services at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Block cemetery.

There is no visitation. The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert A. Murphy
M & R owner/operator

Robert A. Murphy, 82, 7 W. Market St., died in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin, at 3:17 p.m. Monday, May 18, 1998.

He was born in Tiffin April 24, 1916, to Ferd and Emma (Burns) Miller. His wife, Vernice (Martin) Murphy, whom he married in 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., died April 4, 1970.

Survivors include: six sons, Michael A., Patrick H., Frederick and Ned J. Murphy, all of Tiffin, Timothy E. Murphy of Fostoria and Ted J. Murphy of Fremont; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Kathleen M.) Burgderfer and Jackie A. Way, both of Tiffin; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Murphy, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired after 35 years of employment as the owner/operator of the M & R Bar.

A Calvert High School graduate, he was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Rose as celebrant. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

There will be no visitation. The Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary Building Fund and for Memorial Masses.

Robert N. 'Bob' Zender
Roppe Corp. retiree

Robert N. "Bob" Zender, 45, 712 W. North St., Fostoria, died at 8:53 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 1998, at his residence.

He was born in Tiffin Feb. 25, 1953, to Eugene Albert and Doris "Tiny" (Humbert) Zender. His mother survives in Fostoria. His former wife, Joy Rice, also survives in Fostoria.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Briana and Britany Zender, both of Fostoria; a son, Buddy Zender of Fostoria; three brothers, Eugene A. Zender of Findlay, Joseph E. Zender of Fostoria and John A. Zender of Booker, Texas; and five sisters, Jan M. Swisher, Janet M. Smith, Jane M. Paxton and Jeanine M. Patterson, all of Fostoria, and Janice M. Brossia of Findlay.

His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Zender, a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, retired from the Roppe Corp., where he had been employed as a carpenter.

He also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1197, Fostoria.

A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 10 a.m.-9 p.m. today at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian Wake service will be at 8:30.

Memorials may be made to Seneca County Community Hospice.

Leona A. McKitrick
Riegel Foods employee

Leona A. McKitrick, 30, of 19876 TR 167, Vanlue, died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 1998, in a car/train accident at the Norfolk and Southern Railroad crossing on Seneca CR 5 in Jackson Township.

She was born in Upper Sandusky Feb. 27, 1968, to John E. and Betty A. (Barnett) Brown. They survive in Carey. Her husband, Kerry E. McKitrick, whom she married March 23, 1987, in Carey, also survives.

Survivors also include: five daughters, Heather Lee, Tiffany Danielle, MelissaAnn, Chelsea K. and Jacklyn Arinda, all at home; four sisters, Edie M. Schlack and Betty Jean Brown, both of Adrian, Ohio, Paula Ann Tanner of Carey and Patty R. Brown of Alvada; and two brothers, Edward R. Brown of Vanlue and Tommy D. Brown of Adrian.

A member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 344, Carey, Mrs. McKitrick was employed at Riegel Foods in New Riegel.

Services in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Brett Kelly officiating. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.
