Irene E. Snook
Carey homemaker

Irene E. Snook, 89, died at 4:16 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998, at her residence at 811 E. Findlay St., Carey.

She was born in Adrian, March 17, 1909, the daughter of Perry and Florence (Green) Pressler. Her husband, Pearl K. Snook, died April 24, 1978.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert Snook of Carey and David Snook of Tiffin; 14 grandchildren; a step-grandson; and several great-grandchildren.

Two daughters, Mary Ellen Logan and Lois E. Conley, two brothers and a sister are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Snook was active in the Church of God of Prophecy, Carey, for more than 50 years.

The Rev. Brent McMasters will conduct the 2 p.m. Wednesday service in the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey. Interment will be in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the Irene E. Snook Fund, in care of Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey 43316-1169.

Henrietta M. Matz
Retired teacher

Henrietta M. Matz, 93, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, in Bristal Convalescent Home, Waverly, where she had resided since March 1955.

She was born Feb. 26, 1905, in Haskins, to Leslie F. and Margaret (Pargellis) Robertson. In 1935, she married John Williard Matz, and he died Oct. 29, 1975.

A brother, Alfred Robertson, and many nieces and nephews survive.

A brother, R.L. Robertson, and three sisters, Bertha Carter, Jean Wood andDorothy Christensen, are deceased.

Mrs. Matz, a retired teacher, taught chemistry and home economics. She graduated from Bowling Green University with a bachelor's degree and earned a master's degree at Ohio State University.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Waverly; Founders Club of Berea College, Kentucky; honorary sorority member of Phil Lamda Theta and a member of the President's Club at Bowling Green University and Heidelberg College.

She and her husband spent their retirement years assisting young people with their college education and serving at various missions in Kentucky, Georgia and Honduras.

Cremation will be followed by private burial. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9 in Zion United Church of Christ, Fireside, with the Rev. Candace Thomas officiating.

Memorials may be made to Berea College, Kentucky, or a charity of the donor's choice.

The Foos and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is in charge of arrangements.

Leola G. Snyder
Homemaker/former QuickShake owner

Leola G. Snyder, 91, was found dead at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, of natural causes, at her residence at 8241 W. SR 12, Fostoria.

She was born in Bettsville, April 22, 1907, to Hayes and Ann Null. In February 1929, in Indiana, she married

Chester D. Snyder. He survives in rural Fostoria. Other survivors include: a son, Jim Snyder of Fostoria; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were: three brothers, William and George Grant and Kenneth Null; and two sisters, Lalah Van Camp and Marie Ellis.

Mrs. Snyder, a homemaker, also was the owner/operator of Quick Shake in Fostoria for 10 years, during the 1960s and 1970s.

A 1928 graduate of Jackson-Liberty High School, she was a member of Amsden United Methodist Church.

She also taught china painting, bowled for the Amsden Grange and raised Pomeranians.

Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Ruth Solo officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran cemetery, SR 592, near Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Community Hospice of Seneca County.

Helen M. Peters
Fremont homemaker

Helen M. Peters, 82, of Fremont, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.

Born in Burgoon, May 22, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Fannie (Herr) Shale, she married Earle F. Peters in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1987.

Surviving are: four sons, Richard Peters of Columbus, Scott and James Peters, both of Fremont, and Steve Peters of Bonita Springs, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Cross of Greeley, Col.; and a brother, Robert Shale of Bradenton, Fla.

Mrs. Peters, a homemaker, was a member of Burgoon United Methodist Church and its Women's Missionary. She volunteered for many projects at the church. A Red Cross volunteer, she also was a member of the Grandmother's Club.

The Rev. Daniel V. Bare will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday service in the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home, Fremont. Interment will be in Smith cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Samuel O. 'Tobe' Bryant Sr.
ExCel Wire/M.J. Brown Co. retiree

Samuel O. "Tobe" Bryant Sr., 75, 1232 S. Bon Air Ave., died at his residence at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998. He was born June 7, 1922, in Newcomb, Tenn., to T.J. and Elizabeth (Perry) Bryant. His wife, Mary Bryant, whom he married July 23, 1952, in Whitley City, Ky., survives.

Survivors also include: six sons, Robert R. Bryant of Morehead, Ky., Edward T. Bryant of Old Fort, Randall I., Leonard T. and Roger S. Bryant, all of Tiffin, and Samuel O. Bryant Jr. of West Liberty, Ky.; five daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Helen M.) Somers of Bloomville, Mrs. Larry (Anita J.) Haudenshield and Amy D. Bryant, both of Tiffin, Mrs. Dwayne (Jane C). Brown of Morehead, and Mrs. Ken (Unarandy) Ellis of Corbin, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 16great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a brother, James B. Bryant of Williamsburg, Ky.; and two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Roxie) White and Mrs. Marie Lovitt, both of Williamsburg.

Four children, Sheila, Jody, Michelle and Darrell Bryant; a brother, Lewis Bryant; and a sister, Mae Bryant, are deceased.

Mr. Bryant, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired from ExCel Wire Co. and M.J. Brown Co.

A resident of Tiffin for more than 46 years, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the United Veterans Council.

Services in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Benny Fitch officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.

Sue Ann (Nord) Audritsh
Green Springs Echo Press co-owner

Sue Ann (Nord) Audritsh, 64, of 304 W. Adams St., Green Springs, died at 11:23 a.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998, in St. Francis Health Care Centre, Sandusky County, Green Springs.

She was born in Ottawa County, Feb. 18, 1934, to a the late Oscar and Ireatha (Cherry) Nord. On April 8, 1953, in Fremont, she married Fred M. Audritsh Sr.; he survives in Green Springs, where he serves as mayor.

Other survivors include: two sons, Fred M. Jr. and Phillip Audritsh, both of the Green Springs area; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jeanne Briggs of Ocala, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Nord, and two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Smith and Mrs. Walter (Charlotte) Shaffer.

Mrs. Audritsh, a 1952 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, was co-owner with her husband of the Echo Press in Green Springs since January 1977.

She was a 40-year member and past president of Green Springs VFW Auxiliary, a member of Green Springs Finger Pickers Quilt Club, Green Springs United Methodist Church, the Advisory Committee of Sandusky and Seneca County EMS and served as a squad leader for Green Springs EMS from inception in 1981 to 1992.

Mrs. Audritsh was awarded a certificate of commendation by Green Springs VFW for her work with the EMS. When a resident of Seneca County, she served as a Republican committee person from Green Springs and for many years was Green Springs Deputy Registrar of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

She also was a Camp Fire Group leader and leader of a Cub Scout Troop in Green Springs.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Engle-Young Funeral Home of Green Springs with the Rev. James A. Scott officiating. Burial will be in Green Springs cemetery.

Visitation is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Green Springs EMS, P.O. Box 36, Green Springs, Ohio 44836.

Nellie G. Laglia, 76, formerly of Mt. Blanchard, died at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, in Winebrenner Village, Findlay, where she resided. Arrangements are pending at the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, Carey.

Ethel D. Wentz
Former Carey resident

Former Carey resident, Ethel D. Wentz, 84, of Chilhowie, Va., died at 8:57 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 1998, in Smyth County Hospital, Marion, Va.

She was born in Kalida, July 19, 1913, to Henry F. and Mary A. (Warden) Miller. She first married Walter J. Bauer, Sept. 24, 1931, and they were divorced. On Aug. 28, 1965, she married Ira L. Wentz, and he preceded her in death Sept. 16, 1996.

Survivors include: four daughters, Mrs. James (Barbara) Welly and Mrs. Elgin (Sandra) Bayes, both of Carey, Mrs. Nancy Dyer of Maumee and Mrs. Ken (Tonya) McClure of Chilhowie; a son, Stephen Bauer of El Cajon, Calif.; a step-son, Wayne E. Wentz of San Diego, Calif; 18 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise VanAusdoll of Lakeside, Calif., and Lois Lahman of Fostoria; and a brother, Thomas Miller of Elmore.

Also preceding her in death were: two sisters, Wanda Davidson and Joan Stiffler; three brothers, Kenneth, George and Carl Miller; a grandson; and three step-great-granddaughters.

Mrs. Wentz, an avid bingo player, had worked at Donelson Packing Co. and Swan Rubber Co., formerly of Carey, and Roppe Rubber Co. in Fostoria.

Graveside services in Spring Grove cemetery, Carey, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. James Sharrett officiating.

Memorials may be made to Dorcas Carey Public Library, in care of the Stombaugh Memorial Funeral Home, 225 W. Findlay St., Carey, 43316-1169.

Ralph R. Miller
Contractor

Ralph R. Miller, 71, of 204 1st Ave., Tiffin died at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at his home. He was born May 24, 1926, to Marley and Marie (Kapper) Miller of Tiffin. On June 25, 1949, he married Dorothy Raitz of Tiffin; they divorced in 1986.

Survivors include: a son, Stephen J. Miller of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sandra) Arnold, and Sharon Carter, both of Tiffin; special friend, Vella Steward of Tiffin; three brothers, Robert, Earl, and Eugene Miller, all of Tiffin; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Alwilda) Faber of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Brenda, Brian, Brad, Jeremy, and Christa.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Albert and Francis Miller.

Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of Tiffin. He served in the Army Air Corp as a medic during WW II. He retired as a home builder and was a member of the Moose Lodge 846, and VFW Post 2858, both of Tiffin.

The Rev. Gail Angel will officiate the 10 a.m. service Saturday, May 2, at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenlawn cemetery. A military graveside service will be conducted by the United Veterans Council.

Visitation hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Ethel Smith-Gillett
Fostoria resident

Ethel Smith-Gillett, 94, Good Sheperd Home, Fostoria, formerly of Elwood Ave., Fostoria, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at her home. She was born March 29, 1904, to William H. and Ida (Foust) Smith. On Nov. 25, 1925, she married Harvey G. Gillett in Marion. He died Dec. 30, 1973.

Survivors include: a son, Robert G. Gillett of Findlay; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Phyllis J.) Gilliland of Fostoria; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren

Preceding her in death were: five brothers, Harry, Virgil, Harold, Walter and Lloyd Smith; a sister, Edith Place; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith-Gillett was a 1922 graduate of Waldo High School, Waldo, Ohio, and graduated from the Marion Business College. She was a homemaker, and had been employed at Feasel's Market and at Electric Autolite Company in Fostoria during the 1940s. Her memberships included Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria; Naomi Circle; Willing Helpers Circle; and the King's Daughters and Sons, all affiliated with the church.

The Rev. Branson J. Hawkes will officiate the 10:30 a.m. service today at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, near Arcadia.

Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria.

John D. Nims
ITT retiree

John D. Nims, 80, of N. SR 101, Tiffin, died at 10:15 a.m. Friday, May 29, 1998, in St. Catherine's Care Center.

He was born in Detroit, Mich., on Nov. 14, 1917, to the late Earl D. Nims and Frances Fleming. He was raised by Frank and Esta Reiter. On June 22, 1939, in St. John's United Church of Christ, he married Edith A. Weber, who survives.

Other survivors include: three sons, Thomas A. of Siam, Ohio; Daniel J. of Lima; and Stephen E. Nims of Tiffin; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Carlton Nims of Allen Park, Mich., and Earl Perry of Georgia; and a sister, Mrs. Neil (Doris) Philbrick of Nevada, Ohio.

A sister, Mrs. Homer (Gloria) Taylor, is deceased.

Mr. Nims lived most of his life in the Seneca County area, graduating from Republic High School in 1937, and working for 44 years at ITT. He was a member of Crimson River Fellowship, Tiffin.

The Rev. Gereland Fritz will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Turner-Engle Funeral Home, Tiffin. Burial will be in Seneca Memory Garden.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday and one hour before the service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Crimson River Fellowship, Mercy Hospital Outpatient Care or the donor's choice.

Judith A. Wiczynski
Key punch operator

Judith A. Wiczynski, 60, of 859 Miami St., Apt. 9, Tiffin, died at 3 a.m. Friday, May 29, 1998, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Lima to C. Clair and Margaret (Sprague) Hardesty. She married Edward W. Wiczynski Oct. 15, 1960, in Monroe, Mich.

Her husband and a brother, Robert A. Hardesty of Gatlinburg, Tenn., survive.

Her parents and a son, Mark Wiczynski, are deceased.

Mrs. Wiczynski graduated from Woodward High School, Toledo, and worked for 15 years as a key-punch operator at Devilbiss in Toledo. A member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 402.

Burial will be in Lake Township cemetery in Walbridge, Ohio, with funeral arrangements to be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary, the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.
