Laura Kesler
(1903 - 2004)

Laura Kesler, age 101, passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2004, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan.
The eldest child of Lorin Young and Jeannette (McKelvey) Young-Branna, was born near Bryan on Oct. 9, 1903. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Kesler; a brother, Howard Young; and three sisters, Clara Smith, Mildred Connin and a sister who died in infancy. She is survived by a brother, Hobart (Donna) Young of Downers Grove, Ill.; a nephew in Montpelier, Gene (Shirley) Young; and four additional nephews and three nieces; their spouses, children and grandchildren, many at great distances, but to whom she felt very close.
Laura was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since the early '60s, she taught Sunday School and led Second Hour Classes until she was well into her 80s. She served as a Deacon and Elder in the leadership of the Church. She was a regular attendee and supporter of the Church Women United Program in Bryan. She was a member and past president of the Bryan Area Business Women. She donated many hours and helped establish the Outreach Program in the Bryan area.
In 2000 Laura was given the "Good Citizen Award" on behalf of the Bryan Area Foundation for her many contributions to the community.
Laura worked for General Insurance Agency for 35 years, and as a secretary at Aro Corporation for 11 years. After retiring she became a role model for community service, by giving many hours daily to the Bryan Community Hospital, where she worked in the Occupational Therapy Department until the day before she passed away. She helped earn money for the first Intensive Care Unit at the hospital. Her patience, humor, kindness and positive attitude will be missed by the many people she worked with and her family.
Services for Laura Y. Kesler will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory-Bryan with the Rev. Robert Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery-Bryan. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday evening, Dec. 28, from 6-8 p.m.
Gifts in loving memory of Laura Y. Kesler may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Auxiliary.

Pauline V. Kerr
(1905 - 2004)

Pauline V. Kerr, 99, of Bryan and formerly of Detroit, Mich., died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Harborside Healthcare Northwestern Ohio-Bryan.
Born April 25, 1905, at West Unity, she was the daughter of Mary Margaret (Hill) and Mandrelle Mann.
A housewife and homemaker, she was employed in sales for the J. L. Hudson Co. in Detroit and the Thrift Shop in Bryan.
She was a Protestant and a member of the senior citizens in Stryker and the Gala of Bryan. Surviving are two sons, Arnold L. (and wife, Margaret) Christie of Rochester Hills, Mich. and Gerald E. Christie of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Cameron of Montpelier; a brother, Donald Mann of Dearborn, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Virgil A. Christie, William Sawyer and Lloyd Kerr; two sisters, Mildred and Goldie; two brothers, James and Harold Mann; and a daughter-in-law, Etta Christie.
A private graveside service is to be held Thursday at the West Franklin Cemetery of rural Fulton County with the Rev. Robert Damschroder to officiate. On her 100th birthday, April 25, 2005, there will be a memorial graveside service.
Memorials may be made to the Thrift Shop or Gala of Bryan.
Hollingshead-Beck Funeral Home of West Unity is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel M. Doeden
(1914 - 2004)

HICKSVILLE - Ethel M. Doeden, 90, of Hicksville, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Born Dec. 21, 1914, in North Manchester, Ind., to Leota (Walters) and Howard Jackson, she married Roland Doeden in May of 1938 and he preceded her in death.
A longtime resident of Hicksville, she lived at the Townehouse Retirement Center in Fort Wayne for the past three years. She had graduated from the Farmer High School in 1933 and graduated from Bowling Green State University with an education degree.
She was an elementary teacher in Illinois, Brunersburg and Sherwood, prior to being a lifelong homemaker. A member of St. John Lutheran Church, Hicksville., she had served as choir director for adults and children and also served on the church council and women's groups. She was also a hospital volunteer, Red Cross volunteer and was in bridge clubs.
Surviving is a son, Doug (and wife, Betty) Doeden of Chapin, S.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Derek (Diane) Smith of Hamilton, Ind. and Mrs. Barry (Sharon) Haver of Hamilton, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Jeff, Joe and Jim Doeden, Cindy Sordelet, Brett Smith, Laura Zacharias, Tammi Elwood, Scott Haver and Lisa Haver; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Jackson; and a sister, Betty Renz.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, Hicksville, with Pastor Daniel Fugate and Max Begley to officiate. Private burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville. Memorials may be made to the Endowment for Christian Giving or the Roland and Ethel Doeden Endowment Fund for Church Vocations.
Brown Funeral Home of Hicksville is serving the family.

LaMar D. Stuckey
(1925 - 2004)

STRYKER - LaMar D. Stuckey, 79, of Stryker, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 2004, at his home.
Born Jan. 11, 1925, near Stryker, to Velma (Christner) and Dan Stuckey, he married Kathryn Beck on Feb. 26, 1945, and she survives.
A graduate of Stryker High School, he farmed for many years and also worked at LaChoy Food Products in Archbold for 22 years. After retiring, he drove cars for the Montpelier Auto Auction for seven years.
A member of the Lockport Mennonite Church of rural Stryker, he was involved in volunteer work. He, along with a crew of men accompanied a boatload of horses sponsored by the Brethren Service Unit to Greece. He had also volunteered as an orderly in the Greystone Park Mental Hospital in New Jersey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Regg (and wife, Bev) Stuckey of Cincinnati and Bruce (Vickie) Stuckey of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Fern) Wyse of Archbold and Mrs. John (Arlene) Milliman of Moores Hill, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
Visitation was to be held Sunday from 3-8 p.m. in the Lockport Mennonite Church.
A memorial service was to be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Lockport Mennonite Church with Pastor Allen Rutter to officiate. Interment preceded in the Lockport Cemetery.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Williams and Fulton Counties or to the donor's choice.

Donna M. Lahey
(1928 - 2004)

BOWLING GREEN - Donna M. Lahey, 76, of Bowling Green, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at her residence after being in ill health for a long time.
Born March 30, 1928, at Bryan, to Mage (Snyder) and Joseph Schumacher, she married Thomas "Jerry" Lahey in 1949, and he survives.
A graduate of Bryan High School, she completed a two year Secretarial Science Program at Bowling Green State University.
She retired from Bowling Geen State University in 1994 after 22 years as an assistant administrator in the Counseling and Career Center. She was also vice president of Lahey Appliance and TV for 53 years.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and Bowling Green Country Club where she was an avid golfer. She was also a member of the Golferettes, Bowling Leagues and Bridge Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Mrs. Howard (Christine) Hatten of Luzerne, Mich. and Kirk (and wife, Patti) Lahey of Bowling Green; a granddaughter, Kelsey Lahey of Bowling Green; and sisters, Marguerite Koch of Bryan and Rita Cunningham of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in he Dunn Funeral Home, 408 W. Wooster St. A scripture service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at St. Aloysius Church.
Memorials may be made to the church.

Irene Marie Hall
(1910 - 2004)

HARLAN, Ind. - Irene Marie Hall, 94, of Harlan, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Hickory Creek of Hicksville, Ohio.
Born Jan. 20, 1910, at Fulton County, Ohio, to Carrie (Schneider) and Leroy Wyse, she married Bernard 'Butch' Hall on Dec. 12, 1935, and he preceded her in death.
A 1928 graduate of West Unity ( Ohio) High School, she attended International Business College. She was a cafeteria cook at Harlan Elementary and High School and a homemaker.
A member at North Scipio United Methodist Church in Harlan, she was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Leo, Ind.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Ronda) Strautman of New Haven, Ind. and Mrs. Dave (Gyneth) Butler of Tipp City; a son, Elwyn (and wife, Barbara) Hall of Harlan; a foster son, Larry (Sue) Moon of Harlan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Wayne Wyse of West Unity, Ohio, and Bob Wyse of Helendale, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Gaylen, Bill, Junior and Russell; and four sisters, Hazel, Margarete, Freda and Helen.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. in the Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with an Eastern Star service to be held at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick Fulbright to officiate. Burial will be at Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, Ind.
Memorials may be made to North Scipio United Methodist Church, Hickory Creek of Hicksville or Parkview Home Health and Hospice.
