January 8, 1941 - November 1, 2009

Carolyn J. Richardson, 68, was called home to be with the Savior on Sunday, November 1, 2009. She was born in Ewington, Ohio, to Walter W. and Mary K. Irvin. She was a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, led the King’s Kids Club, and sang in choir. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Richardson; her parents; and mother-in-law, Thelma Daft. She will be greatly missed by her three children and their spouses, Donna and Stephen Fletcher of Newport News, Va.; Steven and Sindi Richardson of Minnie, Ky.; and Tom and Sharron Richardson of Columbus. She loved her ten grandchildren, Kristin and Korie Fletcher; Lacey (Brent) Schuck; Leeanna, Renae, Nicole and Katie Richardson; and Judson, Nathaniel, and Jennifer Richardson. She was dearly loved by her sister, Bobbi, and her husband, Harold Gardner; her sister-in-law, Carol, and her husband, Dick Treadway; as well as her nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at SCHOEDINGER NORRIS CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway, Grove City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Bible Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Carolyn’s name can be made to the New Piano Fund at Bible Baptist Church, 2758 Home Road, Grove City. Donald H. Priest
May 23, 1927 - November 1, 2009

Donald H. Priest, age 82, formerly of Grove City died Sunday November 1, 2009 in Newark. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary; daughters, Diane and Kristina Priest; brothers, James, Tom, Bob, Chuck Priest; sisters, Rita Whalen. Don is survived by his daughter, Donna J. (James) Brownfield; son, Jeffrey M. (Alice) Priest; grandchildren, Joseph (Darcy), Angela, Corey, Kelli, Sara, Christopher, and Amy; great granddaughter, Addison Brownfield; sister, Peggy (Hugh) Miller, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don graduated from Aquinas High School and then joined the Army serving during WWII in the European Theater. He worked for Columbus Auto Parts for 35 years and retired being a manager. He started his professional career as a tool and dye maker. Don was a sports fanatic watching whatever game was on tv, but especially liked the Buckeye’s and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed being around his family. Don was a 50 year member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church as well as a member of the UAW 30, a founding member of the OLPH School, and a Saturday night mass usher. Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 3, 2009 from 4-7pm with prayer service at 6:45pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday November 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 3710 Broadway, Grove City at 10am with Rev. Fr. John Swickard, Celebrant. Interment will be at St. Joseph cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Barbara A. Goodell
March 26, 1948 - November 2, 2009

Barbara A. Goodell, 61, of Dublin, entered into eternal rest Monday, November 2, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a bout with cancer. Daughter to the late Robert and Genevieve Nezzo, Barbara was born March 26, 1948 in Williamsport, PA. Barbara met Michael Goodell while employed at Florida Jr. College from 1972-1977, she a librarian and he a lieutenant in the Navy. In 1977 they were united in marriage in Jacksonville, FL. Because of Michael’s military career, he and Barbara lived in many cities in the early years of the marriage including Jacksonville, FL and Pensacola, FL. Barbara was the President of the Naval Wives Club of the U.S.S. Nimitz in Norfolk, VA. She also worked in the Chesapeake Public library system from 1981-1984. Barbara gained employment in Columbus in the Worthington Public Library system, where she worked from 1992 until this past June. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Nezzo, Barbara will be missed by her loving husband of 32 years; sons, Matthew and Peter Goodell; daughter, Catherine Goodell; and sisters, Jo Marie Hartsel, Sharon Birkenfeld, and Mary Thompson. Barbara was an avid quilter and knitter and was an instructor for “Warm Up Worthington”. She was a past Girl Scout Leader and P.E.O. sister. Barbara was a huge support to her family, especially Michael during his military career as well as at Air Force One Inc. Funeral services 9am Friday, November 6, 2009 at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N. High St. Worthington (Just South of I-270). Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-8pm. Private family interment in Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery, Seville, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Warm Up Worthington, c/o Worthington Libraries, 820 N. High St., Worthington, OH, 43085.

James M. Lynch, Jr.
September 16, 1919 - November 1, 2009

James M. Lynch, Jr. age 90, of Hilliard, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009 with his loving family by his side. He was born September 16, 1919 in Ashtabula, Ohio to James M. and Margaret M. (Dugan) Lynch, Sr. Preceded in death by wife, Ardath Hansen Lynch. Survived by daughters: Marian Lynch Ruff and her husband, Stacey Ruff, Lt. Col. USMC (Ret), Jamison Lynch Landsman and her husband, Capt. Jeffrey Landsman, USNR and Karen May; 7 grandchildren: Caitlan Ruff, Fallon Ruff, Sean Ruff, Jacquelyn Landsman, Jessica Landsman, Mo Ruff and Jenna Landsman; brother-in-law, James Talmage; sister-in-law, Mary Ewing Lynch; and many nieces and nephews. James was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WWII, Army Signal Corps. Retired from H.J. Heinz Co. after many years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Buckeye Club and was a volunteer at OSU for many years. He was an avid OSU Buckeye fan and loved golf. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 on Wednesday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic Church, 4475 Dublin Road, Hilliard, Ohio 43026. Father Rodric DiPietro, Celebrant. Burial to follow at St. Joseph cemetery, Lockbourne, Ohio. James was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. John Theodore Burkhart
January 17, 1914 - November 18, 2009

John Theodore Burkhart, 95, of Orient, Ohio passed away November 18, 2009. He was born January 17, 1914 in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late Michael and Olivia Burkhart. John is preceded in death by his wife, Dolly; 1 sister and 3 brothers. John is survived by his sons, John (Eileen) Burkhart, James (Barbara Adams) Burkhart; 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great, great-grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Retired Officers Association, US Horse Calvary Association, 4th Calvary Association, DSCC Officers Club and a member of the V.F.W. Post in Harrisburg. Captain John T. Burkhart was in Company F, 4th Calvary Group, 90 Infantry Division during World War II Battle of the Bulge. John was awarded a Purple Heart among many other awards and medals. John enjoyed gardening and being outdoors fishing or feeding the birds. John mostly loved spending time with his family. Stefanie Lynn Spielman
July 18, 1967 - November 19, 2009

Stefanie Lynn Spielman, age 42 of Upper Arlington, Ohio went home to be with God on Thursday, November 19, 2009. Her deep and abiding faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ sustained her, gave her peace and the assurance that she would spend eternity with Him. She touched many lives reflecting God’s goodness, grace and love to all that knew her.

She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 20 years, Chris Spielman. They were the love of each others lives, best friends and confidants. Together they have four children, Madison, Noah, Macy and Audrey to whom she was a dedicated and loving mother. Preceded in death by her father Richard Belcher and father-in-law Charles Spielman, she is survived by her mother Myra Belcher of Upper Arlington, Ohio and mother-in-law Nancy Spielman of Eden Prarie, Minnesota. She also leaves behind three sisters Sue (Bill) Fitz of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Sandy Belcher of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Cindy Belcher of Bangor, California, a brother-in-law Rick Spielman (Michelle) of Eden Prarie, Minnesota, several nieces and nephews as well as many friends whom she loved and admired.

A graduate of Jackson High School in Massillon, Ohio (1985) and The Ohio State University (1989), Stefanie was passionate about preventing and finding a cure for breast cancer, a disease she was first diagnosed with in 1998. One of her legacies, The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute grew from her willingness to discuss her illness publicly. Launched in 1998, the fund's original goal of $250,000 was easily surpassed in the first six months of its existence and to date more than $6.5 million has been raised for breast cancer research and prevention. More recently, she helped establish The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund, which provides assistance to breast cancer patients and their families who may be experiencing financial challenges associated with treatment.

Public calling hours will be held between the hours of 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM Monday, November 23rd at Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 24th at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1581 Cambridge Blvd., Marble Cliff, Ohio. Reverend Philip Brooks officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research or The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund. Raymond Dare Slaughter
November 9, 1920 - December 9, 2009

Raymond Dare Slaughter, age 89, of Columbus died Wednesday, December 9, 2009. He retired in 1983 from The Ohio Bell Telephone Company as a Project Engineer with over forty-two years of service. Raymond graduated from Columbus West High School in 1938. He was a member of West Gate Lodge F&AM No. 623, York Temple Chapter RAM No. 155, York Council R&SM No. 115, 32nd Degree Masons, Aladdin Temple Shrine, Mensa, Moose Lodge No. 11, and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers. Raymond was a veteran of World War II, served in the Philippines and Japan. Preceded in death by sister, June Mary Slaughter (1937); father, Oscar Evermont Slaughter (1975); former wife, Gertrude Mason (Ankrum) Slaughter (nee Streets) (1990); brother, Rex Guyson Slaughter (1993); mother, Nellie May Slaughter (nee Taylor) (1993); wife, Ruth Ina Slaughter (nee Price) (1998); and son, Ralph Edward Slaughter (2004). Survived by wife, Vivian Eileen (Lewis) Slaughter (nee Ellison); son, Robbin D. (Kimberly) Slaughter of Grove City; daughter, Judith A. (Joseph) Behling of Westerville; daughter-in-law, Kristin Slaughter of Columbus; grandchildren, Jodie (Jeff) Pfeiffer of Westerville, Jillian (Kenny) Davis of Columbus, OH, Raymond E., John, and Elizabeth “Beth” Slaughter of Columbus, and Nicole “Niki” (Matthew) Brittain of Zionsville, IN; great-grandchildren, Cole Stewart and Carson Dare Pfeiffer of Westerville; sister, Eileen (James) Milburn of Mountain Home, AR; brothers, Norman (Joann) Slaughter of Jackson, OH and Perry Slaughter of Lancaster, OH; step-son, Howard (Melonlee) Lewis, Jr. of Galloway; step-grandchildren, Emily Jones of Grove City, Christopher and Christy Lewis of Galloway; step-great-grandchildren, Johnathan Aaron and Emily Marie Davis of Columbus, Audrey Nicole and Ashlyn Paige Lewis of Galloway. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, December 13 at SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL 3030 W. Gloria H. Wheaton
December 10, 2009

Gloria Wheaton, of Grove City, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 10, 2009, at home. Retired from the Columbus City Schools where she served many years as a school secretary. She is survived by her loving husband, Loren, children, Linda (Patrick) Beachler, John (Pam) Ferrell, Jennifer Fisher, Robert (Kim)Wheaton, Scott (Kari) Wheaton; sister, Dolly (Alvie) Napier; brother, Bill (Liz) Isaac; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave tirelessly of her time and energy to those she loved. She was a member of the Southwood Church of Christ. Betty "Jody" Sima
August 30, 1959 - January 7, 2010

Betty “Jody” Sima was born in eastern Iowa and moved to Gahanna over 25 years ago. She and her husband, Ron Sima have three children, Anna (Ken) Wright MD, Mobile, Alabama, Neil (Amanda) Gahanna, and Eric (girlfriend Kate) Gahanna, Ohio. Jody was a proud Grandma Mimi to Alice, Calvin and Sylvia. Jody was a registered nurse in the Special Care Nursery at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Jody loved to garden, travel, quilt and most of all spending time with her family and friends. She had a memorable smile and laugh that made her a wonderful co-worker, friend, sister, aunt, grandmother, mother and wife. Memorial Services to celebrate her life will be held at Xenos Christian Fellowship Cafe, 1390 Community Park Drive, Columbus, Ohio at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010. Tom Dixon will officiate. Dorothy Menning
August 28, 1935 - January 16, 2010

Dorothy Eldora Menning, (nee Cadman) 74, of Columbus. Sunrise September 28, 1935, Sunset January 16, 2010 after a lengthy, brave battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Youngstown, OH the 2nd of 6 children to the late Edward and Eldora Cadman. She is preceded in death by her sister, Terry Cadman Olinski and brother, Robert Cadman. Dorothy shared 45 years of marriage with Raymond Menning and he also preceded her in death. Dorothy is survived by her children, Denise (Chuck) Jordan of Downingtown, PA, Alyssa J. O’Connor and Michael (Lauren) Menning; 7 grandchildren, Ben (Cath) Jordan, Drew Jordan and Christopher Jordan, Chase O’Connor and McKenzie O’Connor, Mandy Menning and Logan Menning; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Jordan-Lees and Deyan Ray Jordan; sister, Nian Cadman Dake; brothers, Harry and Larry Cadman and special friend, Gary Ludeke. Dorothy was a 1953 graduate from Youngstown Fitch High School where she was the Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen. Dorothy was a realtor in Columbus for 25 years and was a member of the $25,000,000 Club of the Columbus Board of Realtors. Visitation will be held 10:00AM until 1:00PM Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL1740 Zollinger Rd.

October 11, 1933 - January 16, 2010

Gary E. Judy, age 76, of Columbus, died Saturday, January 16, 2010. Gary was born October 11, 1933 in Coshocton, and was raised and educated in Pickerington. He entered into the U.S. Army and served in Germany. Gary was currently employed at Ricart Automotive, where he has worked since the mid 1980’s. Preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Lucille Judy, Gary will be missed by his wife, Joann; daughter, Kimberly (Joseph) Mogan, Columbus; son, Timothy (Carol) Judy, Troy, MI; grandchildren, Lana, Erika, Ellyn, and Abigail Mogan, and Gregory, Elaine, Thomas, Mitchell, and Megan Judy; great-granddaughter, Aireana; and brother, Dale (Janie) Judy, Hurst, TX. Family will receive friends Tuesday, January 19, 2010 from 4pm until the time of memorial services at 7pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus. Rev. Harrison A. Gruenler
August 14, 1920 - January 16, 2010

Rev. Harrison A. Gruenler, age 89 of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010. Harrison was born and raised in Hillsboro, New Hampshire, son of the late Walter and Maude Gruenler. Also preceded in death by one brother, and two sisters. After graduating High School, Harrison enlisted with the Army Air Corp where he proudly served his country as a WWII Veteran. Following the military, Harrison graduated with a Bachelors degree from Temple University and a Masters degree from Eastern Baptist College. Throughout the years Rev. Gruenler pastored numerous churches, mainly Calvin United Presbyterian Church. Member of the Sertoma Club and the American Legion, Bexley Post. Harrison’s New England heritage played a large role in his day to day life along with music. He played the trumpet and the euphonium baritone in many bands, such as, Rockwell Band, Westerville Community Band, and also a German Band Ensemble, and could always be heard practicing in the basement. Always setting the best example in life he could for his family, Harrisons integrity and honesty always shined through. He worked wonderfully with his hands, and enjoyed refinishing furniture, wood working and sign painting. Following retirement, he and his wife Margaret became world travelers, touring Israel, Europe, China, Africa, and countless other destinations. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret; sons, Carl and Bruce; grandchildren, Sarah, Julia, Joshua, and Brooke; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Dr. Royce (Grace); and many other extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Calvin United Presbyterian Church, 2900 Winchester Pike. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. Interment Arlington Field of Honor. Contributions may be made to the Barnett Rd. Baptist Church Food Pantry, 1500 Barnett Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43227.
