LAMMERS, MARY E.
Saturday, April 19 2008

NEW CLEVELAND – Mary E. Lammers, 89 of New Cleveland, died 9:45 pm Friday, April 18, 2008 at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa. She was born November 2, 1918 in Kalida to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Erhart) Hark. On June 13, 1942, she married Louis J. Lammers. He died May 24, 1997.

Surviving are seven children: David (Ruth) Lammers of Ottawa, Donald (Sharon) Lammers of Leipsic, Linda (Dennis) Haselman of Swanton, Louis (Carol) Lammers, Jr. of Manila, Ark., Virginia Kula of Mt. Vernon, Marti (John) Pepple of Auburn, In. and Douglas (Patricia) Lammers of Leipsic; 23 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild; 31 great-grandchildren;1 step-great-grandchild and a sister: Louise Schmenk of Leipsic. She was preceded in death by sister: Irene Schumaker; two brothers: Wilfred and Charles Hark; a great-grandchild and a step-grandchild

Mrs. Lammers retired from Putnam Acres Care Center in Ottawa. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland and its Altar Rosary Society and Catholic Ladies of Columbia.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Cleveland with Fr. Mel Verhoff and Fr. Robert DeSloover officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Sunday and 2 to 8 pm Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture will be held at 3:30 pm Monday and CLC Rosary at 7:30 pm Monday.

Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or Putnam Acres Care Center.

BUCKLAND, EMOGENE
Friday, April 18 2008

OTTAWA - Emogene A. Buckland, 70, of Ottawa died Thursday afternoon April 17, 2008 at her residence.

Mrs. Buckland was born March 28, 1938 in Glandorf to the late Hugo and Anna (Meyer) Recker. On July 26, 1958 she married Raymond A. Buckland who died March 20, 2003.

Surviving are her children: Beverly (Kevin) Schmersal of Ottawa, Sharon (Robert) McCorkle of Napoleon, John (Deb) Buckland of Mendon, Gary (Cindy) Buckland of Ottawa and Kristine (Bruce) Warncke of Wauseon; a daughter-in-law: Julie Buckland of Ottawa; 25 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters: Helen Utendorf, Verna Hohenbrink and Velma Salisbury all of Ottawa and Carol Baldauf of Mendon; and a sister-in-law: Janet Recker of Ottawa.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Laura Jean Buckland; a son: Robert Buckland; 4 brothers: Carl, Hugo, Leonard and Daniel Recker; and 2 sisters: Eva Dulle and Alberta Maas.

Emogene was a member of Faith Assembly of Believers Church, Ottawa; she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren; enjoyed fishing at her daughter’s pond and reading

Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday, April 21, 2008 at Faith Assembly of Believers Church, Ottawa with Pastor Larry Bibler officiating. Burial will follow in Harman cemetery, Gilboa. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Saturday and 2 to 8 pm Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and 1 hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

ROBERT EARL CUNNINGHAM

DUPONT – Robert Earl Cunningham, 75, of Dupont, died 1:50 PM Thursday, April 17, 2008 at his residence.

He was born October 5, 1932 in Ottawa, to the late Rosemary Cunningham. On February 15, 1952, he married Anna Mae Wagner, who died June 14, 2003.

Surviving are a son, Carl “George” (Martha) Cunningham of Ottawa; a special caregiver, his niece, Barb Clark; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A brother, Orville Cunningham and a half-brother, Donald Deppler, preceded him in death.

Robert retired from Johns-Manville in Defiance after 42 years. He was a US Army veteran of the Korea War.

Funeral will begin at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 21, 2008 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with Rev. Paul Carder officiating. Burial will be in East Monroe cemetery, Continental, with military rites by the Continental American Legion. Visitation will be 11:00 AM until time of service at 1 PM at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental.

Memorials may be made to Putnam Co. Hospice or donor’s choice.

WANDA L. NOIA

HOLGATE – Wanda L. (Schwartzengraber) Noia, 69, of Holgate, formerly of Continental, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at her residence in Holgate.

Wanda was born May 18, 1938 in Continental, to the late Elmer F. and Doris M. (Corkwell) Schwartzengraber.

Surviving are two sons, John Noia Jr. of North Creek, Daniel (Utak) Noia of Hawaii and a daughter, Rachel (Peter) Bria of Connecticut; three brothers, Donald Schwartzengraber of Oregon, James (Sandy) Schwartzengraber of Elida, Doyle Schwartzengraber of Holgate; seven sisters, Betty Frees of Kentucky, Viola Sorenson of Defiance, Mary Mays of Oakwood, Carol Thrash of Alabama, Kathy (Lee) Brinkman of Continental, Charlene (Gary) Spencer of California and Jerri Catto of Idaho; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, Glenn, Richard and Charles Schwartzengraber and a sister, Alice Horn.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental with Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Burial will be in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 9 am until 10:30 am Saturday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental.

Memorials can be made to the Holgate EMS.

CUNNINGHAM, PAUL

Paul H. Cunningham, 68, of Ottawa died 12:17 pm Friday, March 28, 2008 at Woodside Hospice, Pinellas Park, Fl. He was born November 8, 1939 in Cleveland to the late Henry W. and Shirley (Nowlin) Cunningham. On November 28, 1964, he married Ann Recker and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are two children: Matthew Cunningham of Ottawa and Amy (Scott) Szentes of Carmel, In.; 3 grandchildren: Monica, Will and Marissa Szentes and a brother: John (Judy) Cunningham of Columbus.

Paul was an Attorney practicing in Ottawa, Findlay and Kalida from 1965 to 1981 with Recker, Cunningham & Cunningham; from 1981 to 2002 with Cunningham & Cunningham, now known as Cunningham Law Office. He retired in 2002.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbus Grove; Graduate of The Ohio State University in 1962; J.D. degree from Indiana University in 1965; Member of the O.S.U. President’s Club; Putnam County and Ohio State Bar Associations; Sons of the American Legion Post 63; Leipsic Eagles, Indian Lake Eagles; Indian Lake Moose; lifetime member of the Lima Elks and was a Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 18, 2008 at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa with Rev. Harry Tolhurst officiating. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul cemetery, Ottawa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday and 2 pm until time of service Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa.

Memorials may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Endowment or Ottawa-Glandorf School Scholarship

KEESLER, BEULAH

Beulah M. Keesler, 91, of Cloverdale, died 2:10 pm Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Meadows of Kalida. She was born August 10, 1916 in Allen County to the late Adam and Susie (Herring) Brenneman. On August 10, 1939, she married Eugene Keesler and he survives in Cloverdale.

Also surviving are 3 children: Carol (Phil) Paino of Myrtle Beach, SC., Michael (Diana) Keesler of Miller City and Judy (Roger) Wagner of Fayette; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers: Waldo, Paul, Myron, Oscar and Henry Brenneman; 3 sisters: Ruth Gaskill, Leonice Kirkendall and Della Hartman.

Mrs. Keesler was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dupont Church of God where she played piano and was also a member of the Ladies Aide Society. Mrs. Keesler also enjoyed fishing.

Funeral services will begin at 1 pm Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Dupont Church of God with Rev. Paul Carder officiating. Burial will follow in Cascade cemetery, Cloverdale. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental and 11 am until the time of service Thursday at Dupont Church of God.

Memorials may be made to Dupont Church of God.

WALTER RADABAUGH

CLOVERDALE – Walter Radabaugh, 77, of Cloverdale, died 7:54pm, Friday, April 25, 2008 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born April 27, 1930 in Leipsic to the late Walter and Monettie (Kindle) Radabaugh. On December 27, 1952, he married Bertha Michel. She died October 6, 2001.

Survivors include his children, Mary Jo (James) Arthur of Lima, Walter (Cheryl) Radabaugh and Bruce (Terry) Radabaugh both of Ft. Jennings, Clarence Radabaugh, Molly (Robert) Marshall, and Stanley Radabaugh all of Cloverdale and Dale (Helen) Radabaugh of Van Wert; 19 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Maxine (Lou) Rode of Landeck, Naomi (Leroy) Fickert of Ohio City, and Irene McMonigal of Findlay.

He was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson.

Mr. Radabaugh enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic with Rev. Larry Bibler officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Monday and 10 am until the time of service Tuesday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, LEIPSIC, OH. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

CLIFFORD E. BROOKS, JR

LIMA - Clifford E. Brooks, Jr. 71, of Lima, formerly of Leipsic, died 5:59 a.m. Friday April 25, 2008 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

Mr. Brooks was born June 14, 1936 in Leipsic to the late Clifford and Ruth (Jeffries) Brooks. On October 26, 1957 he married Sonya Steinhour who survives in Cridersville.

Also surviving is a son, Lee (Mindy) Brooks of Columbus; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Dennis (Joyce) Brooks of Lima, Frank (Diane) Brooks of North Baltimore; and a sister, Virginia (Charles) Critten of Leipsic.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Brooks.

Mr. Brooks had retired in 1994 after 43 years from Philips Display Components, formerly of Ottawa. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club of Sylvania and Philips and enjoyed working in the yard.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa with Pastor James Oates officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Ridge cemetery in Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME in Ottawa. Memorials can be made to the Allen County Humane Society.

NIDA D. SCHMIDT

Nida Schmidt, 87, Continental, went to her heavenly home on Friday, April 25, 2008. She was born on July 27, 1920, on a farm a few miles Southwest of Continental. She was the third child born to Roy and Erma (Britsch) Schmidt. She is survived by a brother, Paul (Marie Jane) Schmidt, Continental. She was preceded in death by a brother Gareth (Zelma) Schmidt and a sister Phyllis (Lester) Shafer, a nephew Don Schmidt and special friend Burdette Durham. Surviving family members include 9 nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.

Nida first attended Dickey School which was a one-room school. Later, she attended the Dupont School and the Continental Palmer School. Her family moved to the Miller City School District where she graduated.

She helped out on the farm from the time she was a small girl. She was responsible for milking six cows morning and night among other duties. Her first job away from the farm was as a waitress in the Silver Blue Restaurant in Continental. Later she was employed at Veach’s Hardware, Okuley’s Drugstore, Schmidt Hardware, Grant Insurance and Henry Implement.

Nida and her mother lived together after her father’s death in 1955 until she lost her mother in 1977. Nida had a very special friend, Burdette Durham, and she spent many years enjoying his companionship until his death in 1998. His two daughters continued to be very special to Nida.

She was a long time member of the South Mt. Zion Church and later the Christ United Methodist Church in Continental. She has always been known for her strong faith and her witness to others. She was also a charter member of the L&S Club since the early 1940’s. Some of her hobbies she enjoyed were sewing, crafting, bowling, gardening and making her famous cookies and peanut brittle. She will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be Monday, April 28, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 27, 2008 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Continental Community Library or Putnam County Hospice.

RONALD J. SLATTMAN

CONTINENTAL - Ronald J. Slattman, 60, of Continental, died 4:15 a.m. Thursday April 24, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Slattman was born March 18, 1948 in Ottawa to Edward and Rita (Meyer) Slattman. His father is deceased, his mother now Rita Varner survives in Continental and his step-father, Byron Varner is deceased. On March 9, 1994 he married Christine Kukay and she survives in Continental.

Also surviving are 3 sons, Joseph Slattman of Defiance, Ronald L. “Chip” (Becky Cramer) Slattman of Continental and Corey (Rachel) Slattman of Continental; 2 daughters, Susan (Peter) Brown of Melrose and Janelle (Jeromy) Nienberg of Dupont; a step-daughter, Jennifer (Todd) Kortokrax of Haviland; 16 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Al (Norma) Slattman of Continental, Raymond Slattman of Jewell and Clyde (Michelle) Varner of Napoleon; 3 sisters, Mary (Larry) Holman of Ottawa, Anna Marie (Irvin) Tumblin of North Creek and Janet Smith of Kalida; and 8 step-brothers and sisters.

He retired after 41 years as a mechanic with General Motors in Defiance. He was a Vietnam Navy veteran; a member of Continental American Legion; life member of Defiance VFW, the Military Order of Cootie “Vin Itchie Skivies” and the Defiance AMVETS; member of Ottawa Eagles; and a member of The Society of 40 & 8.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday April 28, 2008 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental, with Deacon Joseph Heeter officiating. Burial will be in St. Isidore cemetery, Cuba with military rites by Continental American Legion. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME in Continental. Memorials can be made to Putnam County Hospice.

NIENBERG, DORIS

OTTAWA – Doris L. Nienberg, 82, of Ottawa, died 7:30 pm, Friday, June 20, 2008 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born September 16, 1925 in Gilboa to the late Oris and Laona (Agner) Crawfis. Her step-father, Guy Cherry is also deceased. On December 27, 1947 she married Albert Nienberg and he survives in Ottawa

Also surviving are 8 children: Carol (Thomas) Reynolds of Las Vegas, Nv., Mark (Amy) Nienberg of Ottawa, Marilyn Horstman of Ottawa, Marcia (Allan) Stanton of Phoenix, Az., Michael Nienberg of Ottawa, Jon Nienberg of Ottawa, Anne Neff of Ottawa and James Nienberg of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Janet Calegory, and a brother: Donald Cherry.

Mrs. Nienberg was a retired school teacher at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Ottawa and other area schools. She also worked for Berty Schwarz Realty. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa where she taught CCD. She was a 1943 graduate of Gilboa High School, a graduate of Bluffton College and enjoyed reading and traveling.

A Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Hemm officiating. Burial will follow in Harman cemetery, Gilboa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Monday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be at 2:30 pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Library.
