Gaylen H. Gilcher
(1919 - 2005)

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - Gaylen H. "Gil" Gilcher, 85, of Battle Creek, died on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in the Battle Creek Health System. He was born April 6, 1919, at Kunkle, Ohio, the son of Orla and Vera Leila (Baerlin) Gilcher.
Gil worked for 35 years as a machinist at the Clark Equipment Company.
He married the former Emma E. Torrey on July 29, 1940 in Bryan, Ohio; they had been married for 51 years before she died in February of 1992.
He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl and Mark Robinson of Battle Creek and Sherry and Joe Finkbeiner of Eagle, Mich.; two sons, Gill and Carol Gilcher of Battle Creek and Martin and Sue Gilcher of Richland, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis and Pat Gilcher of Allenton, Mich.; and a special friend, Joyce Graham.
Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Redemption Lutheran Church with Pastor Karl N. Strenge officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Redemption Lutheran Church. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.

Cecil Smith
(1939 - 2005)

MONTPELIER - Cecil Smith, 91, of Montpelier, died late Sunday evening, Feb. 20, 2005, at the Villas at Fountain Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel G. Smith in July of 1997.
Arrangements are pending at the Thompson Funeral Home-Montpelier.

Rev. Beulah F. Hicks
(1917 - 2005)

MONTPELIER - The Rev. Beulah F. Hicks, 87, of rural Montpelier, died Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2005, at Harborside Healthcare of Northwestern Ohio-Bryan, following a lingering illness.
Born Oct. 3, 1917, at Woodbridge Township, Hillsdale County, Mich., to Maggie (Pitman) and Wilbert Washington Perkins, she married John L. Hicks in 1934 and he preceded her in death on April 4, 1977.
A lifelong Montpelier area resident and an ordained minister, she retired in 1997 as a pastor and evangelist for over 50 years with the Wesleyan Church of Western Ohio. She had also served pastorates in Hicksville and Celina.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. Walter W. (and wife, Mabel) Hicks of Montpelier; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Betty Jane) Layman-Keefe of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. in the Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Central United Brethren Church, Montpelier, with the Rev. Gene Pope and the Rev. Rick Maloyed to officiate. Burial will be in Floral Grove Cemetery, Pioneer.
Memorials may be made to Gideons International.

Lt. Commander "A" "E" Fulmer Jr.
(1922 - 2005)

Lt. Commander "A" "E" Fulmer Jr., U.S. Navy Retired, 82, died Feb. 11, 2005, at Lovelace Sandia Hospice after a year of ill health.
Born Sept. 25, 1922, in Farmer, he was the son of Helen (Castor) and Alfonzo Fulmer.
Entering the United States Navy on Oct. 12, 1942, he completed the Cadet Program in Pensacola, Fla. and was both a fixed wing pilot and a helicopter pilot during his career. He attended the U.S. School of Naval Justice and served on court marshal boards. He served in Guantanimo during the Cuban Missile Crisis and retired from the Navy on June 30, 1970, after serving for 28 years in the United States and abroad.
After his naval career, he flew for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. out of Lafayette, La. with six months of service in Angola in Southwest Africa. He was a member of the Our Lady of the Sandias Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Pearson Fulmer; two daughters, Holli Lynn Swan and Kerri Jo Tisdale; a stepdaughter, Sheryl Jeanne Langford; a stepson, Lonnie M. Styron; two grandsons, William and Charles; two granddaughters, Kristen and Ali; and two brothers, Denzel and Max Fulmer and their wives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathryn Beal.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Aspen Funeral Alternatives.

Eileen K. (Dietsch) McDaniel
(1941 - 2005)

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Eileen K. (Dietsch) McDaniel, of Gaffney, S.C. and formerly of Bryan, Ohio, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005.
Born Jan. 7, 1941, at Auburn, Ind., to Ruth (Daum) and George Dietsch, she married Jack E. McDaniel, also formerly of Bryan, on Nov. 17, 1962, and he survives.
She was a member of the Gaffney Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Terry McDaniel of Bryan, Mrs. Keith (Cynthia) Schoonover of Bryan and Larry McDaniel of Gaffney, S.C.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a brother, David (and wife, Roberta) Dietsch of Montpelier, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Wade (Sue) Garrett of Knoxville, Tenn.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Frank Dietsch of Montpelier.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, at the First Brethren Church in Bryan, Ohio on County Roads C and 13 with visitation from noon until 2 p.m. and a memorial service following at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Shiffler Cemetery in Pulaski, Ohio.

Cheryl L. Shirkey
(1955 - 2005)

ARCHBOLD - Cheryl L. Shirkey, 49, of Perrysburg and formerly of Archbold, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at St. Luke Hospital in Maumee.
Born June 12, 1955, to Dottie (Clabaugh) and Richard Purdy, she married David Shirkey on Sept. 20, 1975, and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeremy (and wife, Natalie) Shirkey of Wauseon and Jason Shirkey of Perrysburg; a sister, Mrs. John (Terrie) Short of Archbold; and a brother, Roland (Nora) Purdy of Topeka, Ind.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold.

Fern L. Marcum
(1928 - 2005)

Fern L. Marcum, 76, of Bryan, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, where she had been a patient the past 17 days.
Born April 8, 1928, in Shields, N.D., to Laura "Myrtle" (Wolfgram) and Harry Wolfgram, she married Dennis L. Evenson on Feb. 19, 1949, in North Dakota. She later married Freddie C. Marcum on July 1, 1972 in Elizabeth City, N.C., and he preceded her in death in 1994.
A beautician at the start of her working life, she also worked as a waitress in several military staff clubs.
She was a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie 2233, Bryan VFW Post 2489 Ladies Auxiliary and the Bryan AMVETS Post No. 54 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Denise L.) Posey of Bryan; three sons, Gerald L. Evenson of Haywood, Calif., Michael "Mick" (and wife, Helen) Evenson of Canton, Ga. and Virgil "Wayne" Evenson of Bryan; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Dan (Teresa) Butts of Michigan; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her mother, Laura "Myrtle" Wolfgram of Cavilier, N.D.; a brother, Virgil Wolfgram of North Dakota; and four sisters, Mrs. Lester (Eva) Nelson of Hamilton, N.D., Mrs. Junior (Shirley) Lawon of Hensel, N.D., Mrs. Bill (Darlene) Henschel and Donna Henschel, both of North Dakota. Preceding her in death were her father; husband, Freddie Marcum; a granddaughter, Nichole Rodriguez; and a brother, Jerry Lee Wolfgram.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home-Bryan.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Don Harris to officiate. Burial will follow in Evansport Cemetery, Evansport.
Memorials may be made to the Home Away from Home, c/o St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, 2213 Cherry St., Toledo, OH 43608.
