ALICE ELLEN SWETMAN

CONTINENTAL – Alice Ellen Swetman, 79, of Continental and formerly of Chicago, IL., died 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at The Laurels of Defiance.

She was born March 12, 1929 in Chicago to the late Henry and Ella (Johnson) Anderssohn. On June 14, 1947, she married Richard Swetman, who survives in Kalida.

Mrs. Swetman was a homemaker and part-time secretary. She attended North Mount Zion Church, Continental and lived in Continental since December 2003. She graduated from Taft High School, Chicago.

Survivors also include four sons, Dr. Richard Swetman of Mt. Vernon, WA, Dr. Daniel Swetman of McDonough, GA, David Swetman of Fair Oak, CA, and Dale Swetman of Hampshire, IL; a daughter, Ellen (Brent) Gibson of Continental; a sister, Ruth Napier of Scottsdale, AZ; 14 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Henry “Hank” Anderssohn.

Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at North Mount Zion Church, Continental with Pastor Brent Gibson officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Defiance Co. Hospice, North Mount Zion Church, or Gideon’s Bibles.

DOLORES KOLHOFF

OTTAWA – Dolores M. Kolhoff, 85, of Ottawa, died 10:05 am, Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Meadows of Ottawa-Glandorf, Ottawa. She was born October 6, 1922 in Ottawa to the late Rudolph and Anna (Eberle) Kolhoff.

Surviving are 3 sisters: Ruth Hinkle of Toledo, Frances Gehrlich of Wapakoneta, and Wilma Felkey of Bucyrus; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Kolhoff and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Hazelton and Doris Carpenter.

Ms. Kolhoff retired after 28 years as a cashier from Kroger in Findlay. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and its Rosary Altar Society.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the church for masses.

Ettie M. Rieman

KALIDA – Ettie M. Rieman, 94, of Kalida, died 1:45 am Tuesday, August 05, 2008 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born June 23, 1914 in Putnam County to the late Charles and Golda M. (Haughn) Mullett. On August 17, 1946, she married Edward A. Rieman. He died March 16, 2000. Surviving are three sons: Jerry (Donna) Rieman of Dayton, Ken (Irene) Rieman of Bowling Green and Bill (Beth) Rieman of Kalida; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one sister: Barbara Croy Hoyt of Columbus Grove. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers: George, David and Harold Mullett; 4 sisters: Edna Debs, Irene Bushong, Nellie Smith and her twin Lettie Warden.

Ettie worked for the Social Security Administration in Lima, Mansfield and Washington DC. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kalida; a graduate of Palmer (Miller City) High School; graduate of Tiffin University; very active in the Putnam County Historical society where she served as secretary and book publication committee chairperson; was a member of the Ottawa American Legion Aux. and an avid bowler.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Monday, August 11, 2008 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Ken Alt officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s cemetery, Glandorf. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Sunday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa where there will be an American Legion Aux. service at 7:00 pm and a Scripture service at 7:30 pm.

Memorials may be made to Edward A. and Ettie M. Rieman Scholarship Fund at any Union Bank in Putnam County.

CECIL W. HOOVER

CONTINENTAL- Cecil W. Hoover, 93, of Continental died 12:33 am Friday August 15, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Defiance, in Defiance.

Mr. Hoover was born December 29, 1914 in Putnam County to the late Charles and Orel (Wells) Hoover. On September 30, 1944 he married Joann Bell who survives in Continental.

Also surviving are 2 daughters: Jane (Gordon) Robinson of Beavercreek and Michele “Shelly” Stafford of Defiance; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and 2 sisters: Mrs. Olive (Perry) Daub of Columbus Grove and Mrs. Helen (Weldon) Frysinger of Napoleon.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Herbert Hoover and a sister: Ethel Wagner.

Mr. Hoover was a farmer. He attended North Creek United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday August 18, 2008 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental with Pastor Betty Penner officiating. Burial will be in Independence cemetery in Defiance. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Sunday and 10 to 11 am Monday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME in Continental. Memorials can be made to the Continental Library or a charity of the donor’s choice.

ROGER HALL

OAKWOOD - Roger Hall, 67, of Oakwood died 12:05 pm August 17, 2008 at his residence. He was born June 29, 1941 in Portsmouth, OH to the late Lilbryn “Lib” and Ollie (Gee) Hall. On June 5, 1985 he married Wilma Stidham who survives in Oakwood.

Also surviving are 2 sons: Charles R. (Michele) Crabtree of Xenia and Chuck R. Hall of Tiffin; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a brother: Robert (Linda) Hall and 2 sisters: Nancy Rosier and Phyllis (Bob) Ehrler both of Lucasville.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Nichole Lea Hall and a brother: Stanley Hall.

Mr. Hall was retired from General Motors in Defiance. He was a member of Big Run United Baptist Church, Lucasville and a member of Continental Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 pm Wednesday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood where there will be a funeral service at 7 pm with Pastor Ray Newsome officiating and 1 to 2 pm Thursday at Big Run United Baptist Church, Lucasville where there will be a funeral service at 2 pm with Pastor Corbert Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Big Run Community cemetery, Lucasville. Memorials can be made to the family.

CHARLES R. "DICK" WELLS

MT. CORY – Charles R. “Dick” Wells, 66, of Mt. Cory, died 7:21 pm, Sunday following an automobile accident at the corner of Hancock Co. Rd. 128 and Twp. Rd. 89.

He was born January 18, 1942, in Rockport to the late Charles E. and Beatrice (Knepper) Wells.

Mr. Wells is survived by his companion, Marilyn Emans of Mt. Cory; a son Scott Wells of Ottawa; 2 daughters, Heather Wells of Pandora and Paula Emans of Findlay; 4 grandchildren: Abbee Wells, Lynsee Wells, Austin McCullough and Garet Emans; and 2 sisters: Sue (Howard) McGue of Delphos, and Nancy (Edison “Brick”) Bricker of Virginia.

Mr. Wells was a retired truck driver who enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting and the outdoors.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Friday, August 22, 2008 at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa with Pastor Mark Hollinger officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm & 6 to 8 pm Thursday and from 10 am until the time of service Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

MACKE, LOUIS H.

OTTAWA – Louis H. Macke, 93, of Ottawa died 4:35 am Sunday, August 17, 2008 at his residence. He was born November 6, 1914 in St. Henry, Oh to the late Bernard and Gertrude (Huelsman) Macke. On June 28, 1937, he married Anne Mura and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are four children: Maynard (Miriam) Macke of Mansfield, Theresa Macke of Ottawa, Marilyn McCann of Prestwick, Scotland and Barbara Macke of Urbana; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Andrew (Gloria) Macke of Ottawa; 3 sisters: Mary Stech of Manhattan Beach, Ca., Theresa Bruser of Maineville, Oh., and Catherine (John) Kahle of Kalida. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Dorothy Macke and 2 brothers: Wilbur and John Macke.

Mr. Macke had been Mayor of Ottawa for 22 years. He was also the owner of Louis H. Macke Insurance Co. of Ottawa and Pandora Canning Co. in Pandora. He was a member of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa; Ottawa Knights of Columbus; Lima Elks and Ohio Canners Assoc where he was past president. He enjoyed working in the garden and loved living in NW Ohio.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 am Thursday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Matt Jozefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Wednesday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 2:30 p.m. and K of C rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul Building Fund.

DAVID A. KORTE

OTTAWA - David A. Korte, 40, of Ottawa died Tuesday morning August 19, 2008 at his residence. He was born November 5, 1967 in Lima to Norbert and Rosalie (Lammers) Korte. His mother is deceased. His father and step-mother, Opal Korte, survive in Lima.

He is survived by a brother: Roger Korte of Cloverdale; 4 sisters: Janice (John) Sinco of Fremont, Donna (Robert) Prowant of Ottawa, Linda (Mark) Maag of Columbus Grove and Diane Korte of Cloverdale; 4 step-brothers: Jeff (Kathy) Morris of Wapakoneta, Philip (Linda) Morris of Houston, TX., Dwight (Ellen) Morris and Doug (Mindy) Morris both of Fremont; and a step-sister: Barbara (Tim) Pendergast of Van Wert. Preceding him in death was a sister: Annette Korte and a step-sister: Debbie Newell and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Korte attended Breakthrough Harvest Church.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Friday at Love Funeral Home in Ottawa with Pastor Jerry Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME in Ottawa. Burial will be in St. Michael’s cemetery, Kalida. Memorials can be made to the family.

NORBERT J. VENNEKOTTER

OTTAWA – Norbert J. Vennekotter, 82 of Ottawa died Friday, August 22, 2008 at his residence. He was born November 1, 1925 in Continental to the late Bernard and Mary (Bockrath) Vennekotter. On April 29, 1950, he married Thelma Schmitz and she survives in Ottawa after 58 years of marriage. Also surviving are 5 children: Dan (Joan) Vennekotter of Kalida, Bob (Pat) Vennekotter of Kalida, Randy (Anita) Vennekotter of Friendswood, Tx, Roy (Betsy) Vennekotter of Parker, Co and Keith (Jennifer Jeffers) Vennkotter of Glandorf; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Oscar (Esther) Vennekotter of Miller City; 4 sisters: Bertha Schnipke of Miller City, Laura Recker of Ottawa, Norma (Tom) Ellerbrock of Ottawa and Florence Verhoff of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Otto Vennekotter.

Mr. Vennekotter was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kalida and its Holy Name Society and Choir. He was also a member of the Putnam County Farm Bureau Organization and its former president. He had been a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Cuba for 80 years and a member of its choir and liturgy committee.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kalida with Fr. Ken Alt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore cemetery, Cuba. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Monday at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 3:00 pm.

Memorials may be made to St. Meinrad’s Seminary in Indiana.

KUHLMAN, MARCELLA

OTTAWA – Marcella M. “Sally” Kuhlman, 90, of Ottawa died 9:50 pm Thursday, August 21, 2008 at Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. She was born June 15, 1918 in Miller City to the late Edward and Bertha (Niese) Hohenbrink. On April 10, 1940, she married Julius Kuhlman. He died October 8, 1984. Surviving are three children: Shirley (Willard) Selhorst of Ottawa, James (Lois) Kuhlman of Boca Raton, Fl. and Jane (Mark) Rosengarten of Ottawa; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Helen Kuhlman of Ottawa and Pauline Bockrath of Kalida. She was preceded in death by a grandson and a brother: Norbert Hohenbrink.

Mrs. Kuhlman was a homemaker. A member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa and its Altar Rosary Society and a former member of the Ottawa Eagles Auxiliary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said 10:00 am Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Matt Josefiak officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Monday, August 25, 2008 at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a scripture service will be held at 2:30 pm.

Memorials may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul School Restoration Fund.

PATRICIA L. MORMAN

OTTAWA – Patricia L. Morman, 68, of Ottawa died 1:45 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008 at her daughter’s residence in Ottawa.

She was born October 25, 1939 in Lima to the late Richard and Helen (Halker) Zeller. In June 1961, she married Larry D. Morman, who died in September 1972. Survivors include three daughters, Stacey Morman, Shannon (Mel) Utrup and Shea (Erick) Nichols, all of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Tyler Morman, Bryce and Paige Utrup, and Reagan, Will and Owen Nichols; a great-grandson, Logan Morman; a brother, Dennis (Kay) Zeller of Glandorf; five sisters, Carolyn (Elmer) Gable of Miller City, Marilyn (Jack) McDermitt of Shawnee, Sharon (Jack) Jolliff of Arlington, Miriam (Dick) Brinkman of Lima and Pam (Charlie) Risner of Alger; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Zeller of Harrod.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Zeller.

Mrs. Morman retired as a cook for Ottawa-Glandorf Schools after more than 20 years. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa, and a graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Robert DeSloover officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where a Scripture Service will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Putnam County Hospice.

ROY A. "SKEET" SAGER

BELMORE – Roy A. “Skeet” Sager, 86, of Belmore, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. He was born October 28, 1921 in Miller City to the late William and Sarah (Scott) Sager. On March 16, 1946, he married Eleanore L. Ranes. She died November 22, 1993.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sager was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Sager and a sister, Iva Mae Statler.

Mr. Sager was a retired US Army Veteran who served in WWII and received 3 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of the Leipsic VFW; he enjoyed yard work, gardening and mowing the lawn. He also tinkered with CB’s, radios and televisions.

A funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic with Rev. Judy Parker officiating. Burial will follow in West Belmore cemetery, Belmore. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
