Robert C. Schimmoeller

KALIDA – Robert C. Schimmoeller, 73, of Kalida died 5:15 pm Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf. He was born December 26, 1937 in Glandorf to the late Raymond and Emma (Korte) Schimmoeller. On May 10, 1958 he married Joan Bendele who survives in Kalida.

Also surviving are three daughters: Suzanne (Bruce) Hendershot of Lima, Lauri (Herm) Gerdeman of Ottawa, and Lisa (Joe) Roebke of Kalida; ten grandchildren: Tyler, Kyle, Justin and Racheal Hendershot; Corey, Brendon and Kylie Gerdeman; Austin, Logan and Evan Roebke; two sisters: Loreen Kaufman of Montpelier and Dolores Wehri of Kalida; a brother: Kenneth Schimmoeller of Lima. He was preceded in death also by a brother: James Schimmoeller.

Bob retired in 2000 from the Putnam County Garage. He had worked at Jiggs Body Shop in Kalida and drove a tanker for Ottawa Shell as well as worked at the station. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida and the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Ottawa Eagles and Kalida Knights of Columbus. Bob shared the gift of life through tissue donation.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, November 7, 2011 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kalida with Fr. Mark Hoying officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 3:30 pm. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Saturday and 2 to 8 pm Sunday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa where there will be a K of C Rosary at 7 pm on Saturday.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Douglas R. Graham

OTTAWA - Douglas R. Graham, 73, of Ottawa died 6:29 pm Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his residence. He was born October 7, 1938 in Leavittsburg, Oh to the late Lyle and Aldyth (Ford) Graham. On August 5, 1967, he married Carol Radabaugh and she survives in Ottawa. Also surviving are 2 brothers: Lynn Graham and Gordon Graham both of Columbus Grove and a sister: Becky Fuller of Woodbury, MN. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Robert and John Graham and a sister: Harriet Graham.

Doug worked for Bob Evans in Fremont. He was retired from farming having worked at several different farms. He had also worked for GTE Sylvania, Ottawa. He enjoyed gardening and was a do-it-yourself man.

Graveside service will begin at 11:00 am Monday, November 7, 2011 at Harman cemetery, Gilboa.

Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa

Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice.

Alexander Edward “Bud” Miller

OTTOVILLE – Alexander Edward “Bud” Miller, 81, Ottoville businessman lost his battle with cancer 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 13, 1930 in Ottoville to the late Alexander John and Jennie (Gast) Miller. On September 3, 1956 he married Mary Lou Smith, the love of his life, who survives in Ottoville.

Also surviving are his children: J. J. Miller of Ottoville, OH, Patty (Randy) Schwab of Norwalk, OH, Jim (Beth) Miller of Celina, OH, Mary Jo (Russ) Kerlin of Midland, MI, Mike Miller of Ottoville, and Lynne (Dave) Waters of Clear Brook, VA: 13 Grandchildren: Tricia (Brian) West, Nicole Schwab, Megan Schwab, Alex Schwab, Jennifer Miller, Maggie Miller, Jamie Miller, Ryan Miller, Samantha Kerlin, Alexandra Kerlin, Victoria Kerlin, Andrew Waters and Brandon Water; 1 great-grandchild: Brock West; and 2 sisters: Irene Miller of Delphos and Ruth Ratterman of Louisville, KY.

Alex was preceded in death by a sister: Jane Koty; a brother: John Miller; and two brothers-in-law: Emmett Ratterman and Walter Koty.

Alex was a businessman in Ottoville for over 50 years. He was owner of the J. J. Miller Company/Village Market and had established and owned The Peanut Barrel in Defiance, OH from 1967 to 1983. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville. He was a founding member of the Ottoville Park Carnival and was instrumental in getting the Lions Club started in Ottoville. He was a member of the Ottoville Local School Board from 1961 to 1969 and helped to reinstate the Ottoville School Charter. He was a charter member of the Delphos Country Club where he was instrumental in its development and many of his own pine trees adorn the fairways. Alex was a member of the Ottoville Bank Board for 50 years and had been on the Ottoville Fire Department for four years after he returned from the Navy. One of Alex’s favorite past times was working in, maintaining, and enjoying his yard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery, Ottoville with military rites by the Ottoville VFW and Fort Jennings American Legion. Visitation will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township, where a scripture service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to your favorite charity, the Putnam County Hospice, or to St. Mary’s cemetery.

Colleen Ellerbrock

OTTAWA – Colleen Ellerbrock, 82, of Ottawa died 6:52 am Wednesday, December 07, 2011 at her residence. She was born August 15, 1929 in Dupont to the late Russell and Mary (Goodwin) Foley. On February 23, 1957, she married Elmer Ellerbrock. He died August 26, 2009. Surviving is a daughter: Lana (Joe) Farquharson of West Liberty; 2 grandchildren: Sophie and Michael Farquharson and 4 sisters: Velma (Herb) Bansbach of Defiance, Beulah Lanwehr of Ottawa, Ima Hawkins of Dupont and Doris (Donnie) Meyer of Ottawa.

Colleen retired from Whirlpool in Findlay. She had worked at Sylvania in Ottawa, RCA in Findlay and Dickey Blind Factory in Oakwood. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa. She was a 1947 graduate of Continental High School; a member of the Ottawa VFW, American Legion and Eagles auxiliaries and the Putnam County Historical Society. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed 18 years of wintering in Florida with her husband also camping, playing cards, bowling, line dancing and working on her computer.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa with Pastor Lynda Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 Friday at LOVE FUNERAL HOME, Ottawa and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church. There will be a VFW and American Legion Auxiliary service at 7:00 pm Friday and Eagles Auxiliary service at 7:30 pm Friday all at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church

Clara A. Nadler

MILLER CITY - Clara A. Nadler, 81 of Miller City died 8:38 am Monday, December 5, 2011 at Hospice of NW Ohio, Toledo. She was born August 31, 1930 in Ottawa to the late Fred and Veronica (Brinkman) Koch. On January 12, 1952, she married her husband of 59 years, Paul Nadler and he survives. Also surviving are 3 children: Gary Nadler of Leipsic, Judy (Carlos) Toscano of Katy, TX and Nancy (Jim) Reynolds of Altamonte Springs, FL; 23 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; sons-in-law: Don Schroeder and Joe Schroeder both of Leipsic; 3 brothers: Rich Koch of Columbus Grove, Bill (Rita) Koch of Glandorf, Joe (Alice) Koch of Ottawa; 2 sisters: Helen Nussbaum of Ottawa and Doris Horstman of Ft. Jennings; in-laws: Julie Koch of Columbus Grove, Bob (Marilyn) Hamburg of Kalida, Bob (Dorothy) Nadler of Leipsic and Dorothy (Dick) Pohl of Cairo. She was preceded in death also by daughters: Dolores Schroeder, Betty Schroeder, Margaret Nadler and an infant daughter; a son: Kenneth Nadler; 3 sisters: Marie Schroeder and husband Norbert, Ruth Schroeder and husband Lee, Irene Hamburg; a brother: Ed Koch; sisters-in-law: Mary Koch and Doris Koch; and brothers-in-law: Dick Nussbaum and Don Horstman

Clara was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City and the Altar Rosary Society and Church Choir. She loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed gardening and baking. She was a 1948 graduate of Glandorf High School.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Thursday and 2 to 8 pm Friday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic where there will be a scripture service at 2:00 pm Friday.

Memorials may be made to the Meadows of Leipsic or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Jessie Branham

OAKWOOD – Jessie Branham, 53, of Oakwood died Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2011 at his residence. He was born May 4, 1958 in Pikeville, KY to the late Denver and Creedy (Ratliff) Branham. On June 24, 2008 he married Mary Ann Steffes who survives in Oakwood.

Also surviving are three stepchildren: Dakota Valdez and Christina Valdez both of Paulding and Alysha Valdez of Defiance; two brothers: Richard Branham, Sr of Continental and Denny Branham of Pleasant Bend; and five sisters: Marjorie Branham of Defiance, Brenda McBride of Continental, Marie Budd of Oakwood, Loretta Butcher of Defiance, and Darla Conley of Defiance. A sister: Lois Branham-Moore also preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, December 8, 2011 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Oakwood with Rev. Bobby Branham officiating. Burial will follow in Sherman cemetery, Oakwood. Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Sylvia Faye Berger

PAULDING – Sylvia Faye Berger, 95, of Paulding, formerly of Leipsic, passed away at 2:12 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, Paulding. Sylvia was born on October 21, 1916 in Gilboa to the late James and Marie (Bracy) Compton. She married Edwin W. Berger on December 1, 1934 and he preceded her in death on January 18, 1971.

She is survived by three children: Edwin D. (Fran) Berger and Shelba J. Tooman Wilson both of Leipsic and David B. (Sue) Berger of Katy, TX; a brother: James V. (Sue) Compton of Findlay; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son: James A. Berger; three sisters: Eunice Rutter, Sarah Grubb, and Vivian Byrne; one granddaughter: Vickey E. Tooman; and two great-grandsons: Christian Tooman and Brian Berger.

Sylvia was a member of the Leipsic United Methodist Church and former member of the West Leipsic United Methodist Church, where she served on various committees. She was a homemaker and also worked for several years as a cook in the cafeteria of Leipsic High School. She was a graduate of Crawfis College High School. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Sylvia loved her family, enjoyed gardening, canning, mending her grandchildren’s clothes, making homemade noodles, reading her bible and writing in her daily journal. She always had a smile on her face and Christ in her heart.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, December 9, 2011 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Pastor Bill Patterson officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm on Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Sylvia’s name to the Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, 12651 Country Road 82, Paulding, Ohio 45879.

Rita F. Varner

CONTINENTAL – Rita F. Varner, 92, of Continental, died 11:53 pm Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 8, 1919 in Putnam County to the late Bernard and Anna (Siefker) Meyer. On July 15, 1936, she married Edward Slattman who died September 30, 1950. On April 22, 1952, she married Byron Varner who died December 5, 1976.

Rita is survived by 6 children: Alphonse (Norma) Slattman of Continental, Anna Marie (Chick) Tumblin of Continental, Mary Cathern (Larry) Holman of Ottawa, Raymond (Nancy Bannister) Slattman of Defiance, Janet Smith of Wapakoneta and Clyde (Michelle) Varner of Napoleon; 36 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren; 8 step-children and many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son: Ronald Slattman; 2 grandsons: Charles Holman and Dean Varner; 2 granddaughters: Jacki Krontz and Rita Johnson; a great-granddaughter: Monica Boecker; a great-great-granddaughter: Tori Boecker; and a great-great-grandson: Nathan Ladd.

Rita retired after 13 years at Campbell Soup Co., Napoleon. She was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale and its Altar Rosary Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Friday, December 9, 2011 at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Cloverdale with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Isidore cemetery, Cuba. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental where there will be a scripture service at 2 pm.

Memorials may be made to Putnam County Hospice, St. Barbara Catholic Church or Putnam Acres Care Center.

Tremon “Mac” Tennison

CONTINENTAL – Tremon “Mac” Tennison, 83, of Continental died 11:30 pm Thursday, December 1, 2011 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. He was born April 28, 1928 in New Site, MS to the late John and Ola (Belue) Tennison. On November 26, 1949 he married Archie L. Curtiss and she died April 17, 2010.

He is survived by two children: Michael Tennison and Becky Tennison both of Continental; a sister: Juanita Loveless of Carlinville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by three sisters: Verlon Sanders, Esther Phifer, and Irma Chase; and three brothers: Herman, J.C., and Doug Tennison.

Mac was a retired laborer for Johns Manville, Defiance. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was a member of Continental American Legion and a life member of Ottawa VFW. He attended Christ United Methodist Church in Continental.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Charles Eagle officiating. There will be a military service following the funeral at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm on Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home where a VFW service will be held 7 pm on Monday. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Martha M. Ruen

OTTOVILLE – Martha M. Ruen, 98, of Ottoville, died 8:30 pm Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Van Crest of Delphos. She was born September 25, 1913 in Ottoville to the late Frank W. and Mary C. (Schlagbaum) Ruen. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers: John and Alex Ruen and 3 sisters: Helen Hiett, Marcella Wannemacher and Irene Ruen and nephew: Jerry Wannemacher. She is survived by a sister-in-law: Julie Ruen of Ottawa; nephews and nieces: Tom Hiett, Rose Keller, Judy Ruen, Ruth Miesle, Carol Ruhe, Becky Salisbury, Jane Neumeier, Gene Wannemacher, Ann Wannemacher,

Mary Fischer and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Martha retired as the bookkeeper for Odenweller Milling Co. after 31 years. She was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville and the Altar Rosary Society and Altar Rosary friendly visitors. She was past treasurer and member of the Ottoville VFW Auxiliary Post 3740 and a 1931 graduate of Ottoville High School. Martha was dedicated to her God, church, family and community. She was a gifted seamstress, needle worker, artist and cook. She was a lady of etiquette and gracious hospitality and always made everyone feel welcome. She was strong and independent and never one to ask for help but always there for others. Her card playing skills were well known. She was a member of the 500 club, a group of ladies who played cards together for over 60 years. Martha never had children of her own but she touched so many people with her maternal and loving ways. She will be deeply missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said 10:30 am Monday, December 5, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville with Fr. John Stites officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Sunday at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township (at the corner of US 224 & 634).

Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church repair fund or St. Mary’s cemetery.

John DeSote

CECIL – John DeSote, 76, of Cecil, died 5:23 am Thursday, December 1, 2011 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice. He was born November 14, 1935 in Miller City to the late Adolf and Mary Frances (Ball) DeSota. On May 28, 1957, he married Rebekah K. Little who died April 23, 1996.

John is survived by his children: John N. (Karen) DeSote of Ohio City, Laura (Timothy) Phipps of Cecil, Penny (Len) Dangler of Ottawa, Stanley (Joan Cole) DeSote of Lima, Donna (Juan) Lara of Blanca, CO., and John N. DeSote II of Lima; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Robert DeSota of Cairo and Joe (Donna) DeSota of Continental; a sister, Madeline Bear of Continental; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was a son, Mark DeSote and 2 brothers: Virgil DeSote and Bernard DeSote.

John retired from Laborers International Union, Local #329 in Lima. He was a member of the Pleasantview Missionary Church in Junction.

Funeral service will begin 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2011 at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Rev. Ray Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to service on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice or donor’s choice.

Cheryl Dean Radabaugh

FT. JENNINGS – Cheryl Dean Radabaugh, 57, of Ft. Jennings and formerly of Leipsic died at 5:18 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima. She was born August 10, 1954 in Troy to William and Shirley (Becker) Lucas, Sr. who survive in Ft. Jennings. On December 10, 1973, she married Walter Radabaugh, Jr. and he survives in Ft. Jennings. Also surviving are 3 children: Walter Radabaugh III and Mathew Radabaugh both of Ft. Jennings and Jennifer (Adam) Mathews of Lima; 2 grandchildren; 3 brothers: William Lucas, Jr. of Ft. Jennings, Christopher (Teresa) Lucas of Van Wert, and Rodney (Barb) Lucas of Sidney; and 2 sisters: Candy (Gale) Green of Ewington and Terry (Bruce) Radabaugh of Van Wert. She was preceded in death by a sister: Christine Lucas.

Cheryl was a homemaker and a former nurse’s aid.

Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Monday, December 5, 2011 at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Leipsic with Rev. Tom Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Ridge cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the family.
