March 11, 1923 - March 16, 2002
Gordon D. Allen, age 79, 335 Westlawn Dr., Mansfield, died Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2002 at his home following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1923 in Newton, W. Va. to James S. and Bertha H. Wilson Allen, living in the Mansfield area most of his life. Mr. Allen retired from the Richland County Health Dept. where he had worked as a plumbing inspector. He was a master plumber, owning his own business for many years. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a life member of Amvets Post #26 and the VFW Post in Ontario. Surviving are his wife Thelma F. Allen; two daughters and a son-in-law, Martha and Michael Williams of Galion and Sherry Allen of Mansfield; step-son Ronald Sowash and step-daughter Patricia Hall, both of Mansfield; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister Ruth Myles of Georgia; brother, Lewis Allen of Point Pleasant, W.Va. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, from 6-9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. James Winkler. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.

Norma Jean "McGlaughlin" Gabor
September 16, 1930 - January 09, 2003
Norma Jean McGlaughlin Gabor, 72, of 855 Greenfield Drive died unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, January 9, 2003 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. Mrs. Gabor was born September 16, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio living in the Mansfield area since 1968. She was employed with Kimble-Midwest in sales. Mrs. Gabor was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, Mansfield Elks #56 and Amvets Post #26.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth “Ken” Gabor; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (McGlaughlin) & Don Caudill of Ontario, Candace (McGlaughlin) Renz of Mansfield and Penny (McGlaughlin) & Liberty Vance of Fredericktown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard McGlaughlin of Elgin, Illinois and Michael & Teresa McGlaughlin of Mt. Vernon; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; Mr. Gabor’s family, three children and spouses, Dr. Michael & Debbie Gabor of Peoria, Illinois, Jeff & Sharon Gabor of Pennsylvania and Steve & Shirley Gabor of Mansfield and 7 grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Jannis Wilson of Grove City; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jane & George Eisenbach of Newark and Harriett Marlow of Palm Harbor, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Esther Wilson; her first husband with whom she was married 50 years, Richard McGlaughlin; and two brothers, James and Les Wilson.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Father John Jorden. Burial will in Ontario cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

David R. Arbaugh II
November 16, 1946 - September 17, 1999
David R. Arbaugh II, age 52 of 64 Leiter Road, Lucas, died unexpectedly Friday morning September 17, 1999 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital . Mr. Arbaugh was born November 16, 1946 in Mansfield living in the Mansfield area most of his life. He was a former employee at Westinghouse and had been self-employed for the past few years. Mr. Arbaugh was a member of Grace Brethren Church, a graduate of Madison High School and a veteran of the United States Army.
Surviving are his parents, David & Marjorie (Maglott) Arbaugh of Mansfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Stephen & Gwen Arbaugh of Mansfield; a niece, Kiley Arbaugh of Mansfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Shelley & Gary Delk of Mansfield; and a niece and her spouse, Kelly & Tyler Armstead of Mansfield.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Wappner Funeral Directors are handling funeral arrangements.

Donald W. Atkins
July 03, 1948 - October 18, 1999
Donald W. “Tudor” Atkins, age 51, of Mansfield, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon October 18, 1999 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Mr. Atkins was born July 3, 1948 in Dayton, Ohio living most of his life in the Mansfield area. He was a guitar player for a local band “Music Explosion” and a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam Era.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse & Melanie Atkins of Texas; a daughter and special friend, Julie Atkins and Eric Porter of Mansfield; his mother, Pauline Atkins of Mansfield; a granddaughter, Olivia; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Michelle Atkins of Lexington; a niece and her spouse, Dawn & Rob Kaman; and a special friend, Angela Miller of Mansfield. He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Atkins.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held on Friday October 22, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor David Atkins. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

Jack Raymond Anthony
October 25, 1999 - November 13, 1999
Jack Raymond Anthony, 86, of 1600 Crider Road died Saturday morning November 13, 1999 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Mr. Anthony was born October 25, 1913 in Toledo, Ohio living in the Mansfield area most of his life. He retired after 39 years from Westinghouse Corporation. He was a member of Linden Road Presbyterian Church, Mansfield Lodge #35 F. & A. M., and a charter member of Mifflin Fire Department. Mr. Anthony served in the 175th Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane (Boyd) Anthony; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Jane & Dale Dohner of Ashland; a son and daughter-in-law, Boyd Raymond & Pat Anthony of Mansfield; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert M. Anthony of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oris Raymond & Hazel Amber (Platner) Anthony; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday November 17, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. at Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by Rev. Cloyd Kress. Memorial contributions may be made to Richland County Mifflin Township Fire Department. Wappner Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Jesse Bartram
October 18, 1920 - December 31, 1999
Jesse Bartram 79, of Mansfield went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 1999 after a long illness. Mr. Bartram was born October 18, 1920 in Fort Gay, West Virginia, living in Mansfield for 58 years. He retired from the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co., where he was a member of the 25 year club and had also worked for Tappan Co. He was a member of Diamond Hills Baptist Church and a charter member of Bartram Chapel Church in Fort Gay, West Virginia.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Marcella Raines Bartram; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sheila and James Heiser of Lexington, Ohio; Sue and Allen Cleland of Lexington, Ohio; Theresa and Douglas Kuther of Superior, Colorado; and Rita Bartram of Frisco, Colorado; two grandchildren, Amber Cleland and Drew Cleland; two step grandsons, Todd and Ryan Kuther; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Dolores Bartram of Fort Gay, West Virginia; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Anna Branham of Rockport, West Virginia; Margaret and Donovan Huff of Mansfield, Ohio; Juanita and Jack Maynard of Fort Gay, West Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a special nurse, Debbie Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Malissa Holbrook Bartram; a twin brother, Jerry Bartram; and also three other brothers, Homer, Claude and Carl Bartram.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Monday January 3, 2000 from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral services which will be held on Tuesday January 4, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the Diamond Hills Baptist Church (647 So. Diamond St. Mansfield) conducted by the Rev. Christopher Thomas and Rev. Don Holtzapple. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. The family request Memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio (1605 Ashland County Road 1095 Ashland, Ohio 44805)

Victoria Baker
June 15, 1934 - January 18, 2000
Victoria Baker, 65 of 208 Marlow Rd. died January 18, 2000 at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Mrs. Baker was born June 15, 1934 in Hardwood, Texas residing in the Mansfield area since the 1940's. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church and Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 56.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon Baker; one daughter, Juanita Slaughter of Ashland; three grandchildren, Denise and Nancy Tuttle and Travis Slaughter; one great-grandson, Jonathan Lee Blodgett; five brothers, Juan Garcia of Mansfield; Henry Garcia of Mt. Clemens, Michigan; Jesse and Ralph Garcia both of Fremont, Ohio; Joe Garcia of Clyde, Ohio; six sisters, Margaret Medina of Mansfield; Francis Thomas of New York; Guadalupe Navarro, Mary Root and Rose Swaisgood all of Fremont, Ohio; and Eloise Carte of Port Clinton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curz & Guadalupe (Vasquez) Garcia; her beloved grandson, John 'Bubba' Tuttle; and one brother, Ignasio Garcia.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pete's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mansfield cemetery.

Susan Elaine Adams
October 29, 1960 - January 22, 2000
Susan Elaine Adams, 39 of 1371 Poth Rd. died unexpectedly Saturday morning January 22, 2000 at home following an extended illness. Miss Adams was born October 29, 1960 in Mansfield being a life long resident. She was a graduate from Malabar High School and had attended the Freewill Baptist Church on Laver Road. She had worked at Progress Industries, Newhope Industries and also participated in activities at 'The Center'.
Surviving are her parents, Phyllis (Riffe) and Chester Adams; her maternal grandmother, Marie McNutt of Galion, Ohio; good friends, Ruth & Floyd Moody; A1 associated nursing; and aunts and uncles, Dolly Hammond of Galion; Joe & Alveta Riffe of Mansfield and Donna & Darrel Shepherd of Portsmouth, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Ann Adams in February 1999.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Dennis McMillen. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.

William E. Aplin
June 26, 1950 - March 02, 2000
William E. Aplin, age 49, of Mansfield, died Thursday, March 2, 2000 at Med Central after an extended illness. Bill was born June 26, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio, moving to the Mansfield area in 1980. He was a Rehabilitation Counselor for the Bureau of Workman's Compensation having graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Masters Degree. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, the Bell Choir, and was a volunteer at St. Peter’s High School. He coached Southwest Little League, was a Council Representative and Union Delegate for S.E.I.U., and was a Co-coordinator of the combined charitable campaign for United Way. He was a loving husband and devoted father to his son and a father figure for a host of young children and young adults in the Mansfield area.
Surviving are his wife, Angie Aplin of Mansfield; one son, Sean Aplin of Mansfield; his mother, Gwendolyn Aplin of Concord, Ohio; one special aunt, Ruth Morgan of Maple Heights; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Aplin of Concord, Ohio; Donna and Michael Sears of Mentor, Ohio and one niece, Michelle Sears of Lakewood, Ohio; one nephew, Michael Patrick Sears of Mentor, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Catherine Scharf of Mansfield, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Dr. Kathleen Scharf of Chicago, IL and Dr. Paula Adsit of San Francisco, CA; two brothers-in-law, Father Patrick Scharf of Napoleon, Ohio, Father Lawrence Scharf of Monroeville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Aplin and a father-in-law, Lawrence A. Scharf.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday, March 5, 2000 from 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a 8 p.m. Vigil Service. Funeral services will be at St. Peters Catholic Church on Monday, March 6, 2000 at 10 a.m. conducted by brother-in-laws Father Lawrence and Father Patrick Scharf. Burial will be at Mansfield Catholic cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made for use as a college fund for his son or to St. Peter’00s Development Fund.

Rhoda Artrip
November 07, 1914 - March 16, 2000
Rhoda (Ferguson) Artrip, age 85, of Ashland, Ohio, died Thursday, March 16, 2000 after an extended illness. Mrs. Artrip was born November 7, 1914 in Wayne County, West Virginia and has been in the Mansfield area since 1950. She attended Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sybil Burns of Nankin, Ohio, Elizabeth Fields of Mansfield; one daughter-in-law, Helen Artrip of Mansfield; nineteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Artrip; two sons, Charles Artrip and George Artrip Jr.; three sisters, Verla Hunt, Shirley Hunt and Laura Hardwick; four brothers, Wetzel Ferguson, Walter Ferguson, Lesley Ferguson and Vince Damron and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Sunday, March 19th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Diamond Street Home on Monday, March 20th at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Nate Rhodes of Four Corners Church of God. Burial will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park.

Charles E. Arter
June 15, 1922 - March 22, 2000
Charles E. Arter Sr.,77, of 14 Ledgewood Dr. died March 22, 2000 at MedCentral Mansfield following an extended illness. Mr. Arter was born June 15, 1922 in Richland County, Ohio residing in the Mansfield/Ashland area most of his life. He retired from McKinley Roofing and was a life member of VFW #291 in Shelby, Eagles #2178 in Ashland and American Legion #0016. Mr. Arter was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II.
Surviving are one brother, Ivan Arter of Mansfield; one sister, Ruth Horning of Crestline; three sons and two daughters, all of Ashland, James and Cindy O'Neill; Janet (Arter) McUne; Kathy (Arter) Hatcher; Charles E. Arter, Jr.; William and Rose Arter; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Lois Eschenaur of Mansfield; three step sons; Gary and Joneen Eschenauer of Madison, Ohio; Richard Eschenauer of Apache Junction, Arizona; and Paul and Noleen Eschenauer of LeMesa, California; one step-daughter, Roberta Wehremeister of Roanoke, Virginia; thirteen step-grandchildren; two step-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elroy and Mary (Fisher) Arter; and eight brothers and sisters, Kenneth Arter, Katherine Miller, Alma Peyton, Edna Scott, Elmer Arter, Orthella Poskany, Helen Berry and Fritz Arter.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Friday, March 24, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 25th at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow at Mansfield Memorial Park with military services.

Earl P. Adams
January 13, 1944 - March 28, 2000
Earl P. Adams, 57, of 1147 Wade Dr. died at home Tuesday evening, March 28, 2000 following an extended illness. Mr. Adams was born January 13, 1944 in Martin County, Kentucky living in the Mansfield area most of his life. He was employed at AK Steel and was a member of Local Union 169. Mr. Adams was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry & John Jeffries and Sandra & Thomas Collins, Sr., all of Mansfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Chester & Carol Adams of Ashland and Charles & Carol Adams of Mansfield; a sister, Dixie Stamper of Tennessee; four grandchildren, John Jeffries, Jr., Thomas Collins, Jr., Kimberly Collins, and Melissa Collins, all of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest & Ethel (Crisp) Adams; and two nieces, Susan and Lisa Adams.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 3, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military services will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
