Mary Schwyn Shafer, age 80, of Findlay died at 6:30a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004. She was born on August 29, 1923 in Findlay to Albert and Edna (Bigelow) Schwyn. She married Paul E. Shafer on Jan. 23, 1944 and he survives. Also surviving are: children, Susan (Don) Grybb of Okemos, MI; John (Elise) Shafer of Columbia, SC and Jan (Jay) Morehart of Findlay, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Kate and Paul Grybb; Paul, Jessica and Elise Shafer and Maggie Morehart. Mary was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Entombment will be private. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend John Wurster officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to The Heritage, 2820 Greenacre Drive in her memory. Arrangements handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay.

Laura M. Woodward

Died 8/2/2004

Laura Maxine Woodward, 75 of Findlay, died at 5:25 a.m. Monday, August 02, 2004 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay. She was born to the late Thomas H. and Jessie F. (Cantil) Williams on September 4, 1928. She married W. Leland Woodward on April 17, 1947 and he survives. Mrs. Woodward retired after 30 years from RCA where she worked as an assembler. She was a member of Howard United Methodist Church, the Mary Circle and the Ohio Star Quilt Club. Also surviving are two daughters Sharon Busick of Ashland, KY and Mrs. Joseph (Carol) Murkos of Findlay; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren; sister Bernice Oldham of Findlay. She is preceded in death by two sisters Marguette Aukerman and Mary Butte; two brothers Harold E. and James E. Williams. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2004 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. Reverend Deborah K. Stevens officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Howard United Methodist Church, 200 Cherry Street, Findlay.

Robert G. Valentine

Robert George Valentine, age 87, of 2210 Bonnie Lane in Findlay died at 12:40 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2004 at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center. He was born on May 31, 1917 in Toronto, Canada to George and Annie (Stroud) Valentine. He married Donna Marie Poll on Nov. 2, 1946 and she survives. Also surviving are: four sons, Robert Valentine of Toronto, Canada; Bryan (Patricia) Valentine of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mark (Karen) Valentine Sterling Heights, Michigan and Paul (Dorothy) Valentine of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Anne (Kent Thompson) Valentine of Columbus, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Valentine had retired from the Ford Motor Co. as a Zone Manager for the Tractor Division. He was an active member of the Alcoholic’s Anonymous community and a veteran of the Canadian Air force during WWII. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. Private family interment will in Knollcrest Gardens. Pastor Brad Hulcy will officiate. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Altzheimer’s Respite Care Society, P.O. Box 113 Findlay, Ohio 45839-0113 in his memory.

Helen J. McClelland
Born 6/17/1927
Died 8/2/2004

Helen J. McClelland, 77 of rural Arlington died at 4:15 P.M. Monday August 2, 2004. Born in Houcktown on June 17, 1927 to Ralph "Mike" and Catherine (Walters) Parish. On September 8, 1946 she married Robert L. McClelland and he survives along with two sons: James A. (Sue) McClelland of Arlington and Jan A. (Sommer) McClelland of rural Jenera, daughter Judy M. (Dr. J. Marvin) Rower of rural Findlay, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters also survive, Carol Bowman of Mt. Blanchard and Nancy (Carl) Copeland of Houcktown. Two brothers Robert and John Parish and her parents are deceased. Helen was a homemaker and helped her husband farm and raise livestock, she formerly worked in the Arlington High School Cafeteria and was an avid camper for many years. She was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church, active in the Church Ladies Sextet, the Courtesy Committee and the WSCS. Helen graduated in 1945 from Mt. Blanchard High School, attended Findlay College, former Co Chairperson of the Arlington Homecoming, Arlington Children Conservation League and former member of The Order of Eastern Star No. 466, Mt. Blanchard. Helen was Co Founder of the McClelland Gallery and the McClelland Family Fund for Student Exhibits at the Findlay Art League. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at the Arlington United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Borsay officiating. Burial will be in Bishop cemetery, Eagle Township. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington. Memorials may be given to The Community Foundation 101 W. Sandusky St., Findlay for the Farm Child Scholarship, Arlington United Methodist Church, American Diabetes Foundation or Charity of Donor Choice.

Patricia J. Hocanson

Died 7/31/2004

Patricia J. Hocanson, 72, of Findlay, died at 5:20 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at her residence. She was born on March 27, 1932 in Findlay to Fred and Dorothy Lanning, and raised by Paul and Arlene Sampson. She married Harry James Hocanson on July 28, 1951 and he survives. Mrs. Hocanson retired in 1984 from Cooper Tire and Rubber Company where she worked in Consumer Relations. She loved her family and was an avid gardener. She is survived by sons Michael J. (Cathy) and Robert W. (Carol), both of Findlay; daughters Catherine M. (Ronald) Cornwell, Findlay, Karen L. (David) Kupsky, Waukesha, WI, and Ann E. (Scott) Souders, Findlay; grandchildren: Zach, Maeve, Dave, John, Jamie, Eric, Jessica, Tyler, Jacob, Jenna, Ben, and Alek; brothers William and Carroll Lanning, Findlay. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Terry Pontius officiating.

Gene E. Line
Born 6/18/1934
Died 10/1/2004

Gene E. Line, 70, of rural Findlay went to be with his Lord Friday, October 1 at 7:19 p.m. surrounded by his family at Blanchard Valley Medical Center. He was born to the late Marvin and Sylvia (Davis) Line on June 18, 1934 at Findlay Hospital. He was married to Janel (Frantz), who survives, for 51 wonderful years. They were married June 7, 1953 in Arlington. Surviving are: his brother, Arthur (Doris) Line of Arlington; and his children, Vickie Frysinger of Dunkirk; Terri Line of Findlay; Patti (Tim) Shank of Pemberville; and Doug (Angie) Line of Findlay. He was also a father to a special Japanese exchange student, Ikuko (Ron) Conley of Elida. Also surviving are: grandchildren, Matthew (Liliane) Opp of West Cheste; Deven (Matthew) Douglass of Lima; Scott (Shelley) Frysinger of Findlay; Kristen (Daren) Lee of Findlay; Justin Shank of Bowling Green; Jason Shank of Pemberville; Alexa and Olivia Line of Findlay; and Anique Conley of Elida. There are also five great-grandchildren: Kody and Austin Frysinger, Jena Wensole, Conner Douglass, and Owen Opp. Also surviving are two nieces and two nephews. His parents, two grandsons, and a granddaughter preceded him in death. Mr. Line graduated from Arlington High School in 1952, where he was involved in football, basketball, and the FFA. Through FFA, he received his State and American Farmer degrees. Mr. Line was engaged in farming until 1981 when he was involved in a farming accident. He was also affiliated with New Vision Fellowship, Findlay. He will always be remembered for his honesty, practical jokes, and love for the Lord and his family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington with Pastor Shane Helms officiating. Burial will be at Bishop cemetery, Eagle Township. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Christopher Reeve Foundation or the Line Family. Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

Ruth Wildman
Born 11/20/1917
Died 10/2/2004

Ruth Wildman, age 87, a resident of the Arlington Good Samaritan Center and formerly of Dunkirk and Findlay died at 1:55 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the center. She was born on November 20,1917 in Sistersville, West Virginia to William. C. and Caroline Giboney. She married Charles Wildman and they divorced. She had two children, Carol Douglas Draper who is deceased and Robert (Paulette) Wildman of Findlay, who survives. Ruth spent her life caring and providing for her family. She was employed by the Appleseed and Williamstown Restaurants and retired from St. Rita's Hospital Dietary Staff. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Arlington Pastor Christopher Cravens officiating. Burial will be in Tyler County cemetery in Middlebourne, WV. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in her memory.

Ernestine L. Olwick

Died 10/3/2004

Ernestine L. Olwick, 86 of Cygnet, died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday, October 3, 2004 at St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo. She was born on August 3, 1918 in Monclova, Ohio to K.C. and Theresa (Zedwick) Olwick. She graduated from Monclova High School and went on to study business at the University of Toledo. She worked as a secretary for many years, and retired in 1981 from France Stone Company. Ms. Olwick was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Altar-Rosary Society, North Baltimore. She was a volunteer for the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She is survived by a sister Dorothy Weber of Van Buren; sister-in-law Doris Olwick of Toledo; nieces Linda (Robert) Reichenbach, Suzanne (Michael) Poole, Patricia (Dan) Naylor, Teresa (Jeff) Beamsley, Machelle (Robert) Smith, Connie (Gary) Ossman, and Christine (David) East; nephews Timothy (Jill) Weber and William McFarlan; many great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore. Father Stephen Cairns Celebrant. Burial will be in New Maplewood cemetery, North Baltimore. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, North Baltimore, in her memory.

James D. Warren
Born 9/2/1935
Died 9/30/2004

James D."Jim" Warren, 69, of 5982 C.R. 248, Arcadia died at 1:30 p.m. near Arcadia. He was born on September 2, 1935 to the late Harry Don and N. Maxine (Wilcox) Warren . He married Marna J. Romick on December 19, 1954 and she survives near Arcadia. Also surviving are three children; James A. (Lou Anne) Warren of Alvada; Patricia A. (Al) Sanchez of Vanlue and Sandy A. (Arlene) Warren of Findlay; grandchildren: Nikki Alford, Cori (Jon) Siferd, Staci (Richard) Foor, Melanie, Eric and Chad Warren and Randi Bowser: one great-grand-child, Sydney Foor; and his sister Lelia F. Horton of rural Findlay. He was a 1953 graduate of Arcadia High School and Tri-State College of Engineering in 1956 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Jim was employed by Autolite Spark Plug from 1956-60, and Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. from 1960 until retirement in 1996 following 37 years with perfect attendance, he also farmed for nearly 50 years with a love and desire to improve the land. Jim was a faithful member of the Arcadia United Methodist Church where he lived out his faith and served as Sunday school teacher and communion usher. Jim will be sadly missed by his loving family and many friends. Jim was a quiet philanthropist, supporting of the Washington Twp. Fire Dept., Arcadia band and sports activities, and many Masonic activities to name a few. Jim belonged to the Arcadia Lion's Club, Lion's Civic Association, Findlay Elks BPOE #75 and volunteer reader for the Arcadia Schools. Jim will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Jim's memberships also include: Findlay Masonic Lodge #227, Zenobia Shrine, Past President of Findlay Shrine Club and secretary for 15 years, former Director Findlay Zenobia Clowns, Honorary Member Zenobia's Legion of Honor, Tiffin Shrine Club, Fostoria Shrine Club; Tiffin Hornets, presently President of the Hancock County Scottish Rite, York Rite Bodies of Findlay, Ambassador to Tiffin Shrine Club (1998-2001), Royal Order of Jesters Court #21, Tall Seeders, and Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite. Funeral services will be held at Arcadia United Methodist Church on Monday, October 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-8 p.m. Sunday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, where a Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, also the casket will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Susan M. Doxsey

Died 10/6/2004

Susan Marie Doxsey, 40, of Findlay went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ at 8:41 a.m. on Wednesday; following a lengthy illness. She was born October 25, 1963 in Findlay to Robert E. Doxsey and Mary M. (Schmutte) Doxsey. She is survived by: two sisters, M. Christine Doxsey of Kansas City, Missouri; and Regina L. Doxsey of Stinson Beach, California; and two brothers, Robert E. Doxsey, Jr. of Findlay; and Michael L. Doxsey of LaRochelle, France. Susan’s maternal grandparents were the late Leonard B. and Margaret E. (Nelson) Schmutte and paternal grandparents were the late Joseph and Blance (Karrick) Doxsey. Other survivors include: her partner, Matthew Hill of Kansas City, Missouri; three nieces, Bethany (Granville) Dearwester of Cincinnati; Sara E. Doxsey of Findlay; and Sarah M. Doxsey of Kansas City, Missouri; and four nephews, Joshua Granville of North Carolina; Ryan, Todd and Jamie Doxsey of Findlay. Susan attended St. Michael School and Van Buren High School. She was a member of the class of 1982. She spent the bulk of her working career as a waitress. Susan was very artistic and loved being outdoors and close to nature. A memorial service will be held around Thanksgiving. The family would like to thank Kathy, Jeff and Rachel for their unconditional love and friendship; as well as all of the compassionate folks at The Heritage and with Hospice, especially, Marjorie; Noreen; Judi; and Leah. Thank you! Memorials may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio 45840 or St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 422 Western Avenue, Findlay, Ohio 45840. Constance J. Hardesty

Constance (Connie) Joan Hardesty, 57, of 3003 Pleasant Ave., Hamilton, Ohio died at 10:43 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2004 at Manor Care at Woodridge, Fairfield, Ohio. She was born on January 31, 1947 in Findlay, Ohio to Kenneth and Ellen (Rees) Coppes. She married Glenn E. Hardesty, Jr. and he survives. Also surviving are: one daughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Pilgrim; one son, Glenn Hardesty III; and one granddaughter, Sydney Grace Pilgrim all of Hamilton,Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Hardesty retired from Seaway Foodtown as a deli clerk. She served as a volunteer for T.W.I.G. Society in Marion County. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, October 9, 2004 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay, with Pastor Christopher D. Cravens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Gove cemetery, Findlay. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45242-8922.
