Lonnie Lee Blakley

Lonnie Lee Blakley, age 43 of Findlay passed away Monday, September 29, 2008, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay. Lonnie was born in Findlay on March 4, 1965, to Larry M. and Zelma E. (Beardsley) Blakley, and they survive. In addition to his parents he is survived by his fiancee, Tammy Gierke; brother Larry Bryan (Sherry) Blakley of Alvada; nieces: Keri Blakley, Sierra Lanagan, Justina and Alexis Blakley; and nephew Michael Blakley. Lonnie is predeceased by his two brothers: Michael Shannon and R. Jason Blakley, nephew: Michael Daniel Blakley, grandparents: Ralph and Virginia Beardsley and Gene and Joan Huether. Lonnie was a 1983 graduate of Findlay High School and was employed as a delivery driver for Domino's Pizza and Pizza Hut. He also worked for the Courier. He was an avid sports fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Indians, NASCAR, and driver Richard Petty. He was a member of AMVETS Post 21. Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, 2008, from 2:00 - 8:00 P.M. at COLDREN CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Shane Helms officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Joseph W. Cain

Joseph W. Cain, age 90, of Findlay died at 9:30 PM Monday, September 29, 2008 at his home at Primrose Retirement Community. He was born in Champaign, IL on January 22, 1918 to the late Charles D. and Laura (Pierce) Cain. On December 31, 1939, he married Clarice Hoover and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Steven J. (Mary) Cain of Lorain, OH and Brian J. (Judy) Cain of Toledo; daughter, Bonnie J. (Frank) Cain Method of Washington, D.C.; daughter-in-law, Patricia Cain Hagen of MD; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas W. Cain in 1983; brother, Robert P. Cain and two great-grandchildren. Joe retired from Deshler Products in 1982 following 30 years of service. He served during WWII in the US Navy. He was a graduate of Oakwood High School in IL. Serving as Mayor of Desher at one time he also held memberships in the EMS and the Sycamore Masonic Lodge Chapter 201. He was a resident of Deshler from 1954-1991; he and his wife then took residency in Findlay. Mr. Cain was a member of the Tiffin Road Church of Christ which is now Bright Road Church of Christ where he had served as an Elder at one time. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Bright Road Church of Christ where visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services (12:00-1:00 PM) Friday. Visitation will also be held from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00 PM Thursday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made to: God's Helping Hands of Michigan, Inc., 1866 Star-Batt, Rochester Hills MI 48309.

Russell F. Thiel

Russell F. "Duke" Thiel, age 82, of Findlay died at 7:16 PM at his residence. He was born on June 15, 1926, in Kirby, Ohio to the late Leo and Bertha (Zwilling) Thiel. He is survived by two sons, Russell F. Thiel, Jr. and Darl Thiel, both of Findlay; five grandchildren, Andrea (Albert) Morales; Angee (Duncan) Hanes; Charlie Thiel; Amee (John) Biggs and Sarah (Jon) Gaberdiel; and seven great-grandchildren, Lance; Logan; Livia; Taylor; Riley; Lucas and Noah. He was preceded in death by a son, Kim Thiel; five brothers, Earl; Bernard "Bake"; Norman; Darl and Ivan "Buck" and two sister, Evelyn "Tudy" Hemmerly and Idella "Tillie" Higgins. Duke retired from Blanchard Valley Hospital in 1989 and was a life-time member of the DAV. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a Seaman 2nd Class. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 4, 2008 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay where the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad will present full military rites.

Mary Louise Neeley

Mary Louise Neeley, age 83, of Findlay died at 10:45 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at The Heritage Manor. She was born in Findlay on April 26, 1925 to the late Edgar and Anna LaDema (Long) Redick. She married Paul J. Neeley and he preceded her in death in 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Lou Ann Mygrant of Maineville, OH; two grandchildren, Beth (David) Daulton of Lebanon, OH; Rick (Barb) Mygrant of Cincinnati; and three great-grandchildren, Emma, Karlee and Leah Daulton. Mrs. Neeley was a member of Howard United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held at 5:30 PM Friday, October 3, 2008 at Maple Grove cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association National Center 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231or to the Alzheimer's Association National Office 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.

Elynor Lee Raster

Elynor Lee (VanZant) Raster died October 6, 2008 at 12:39 a.m. at the Judson Palmer Home, Findlay, Ohio. She was born in Dayton, Ohio November 19, 1918 to Earl and Barbara VanZant. Elynor first worked as a secretary at a Lutheran Church and retired in 1988 from the offices of Governor's Manor, Springfield. She was preceded in death by her husband Rodger Raster and son David Raster. Survivors include a daughter, Carol Lee Groman (Chris; three grandchildren: Marilyn Lee Matevia, David Lee Matevia (Leigh Ann), and Tobie Sue Patton (Jason), and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Findlay, Ohio on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation prior to the service will be at 10:00 a.m.in the Narthex at the church. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery, Springfield, Ohio with a committal service in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or The Judson Palmer Home.

Sarah M. Granger

Sarah M. "Sally" Granger, age 84, formerly of Rawson died on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. She was born on July 8, 1924 in Mercer County, OH to the late Harry and Ada (Smith) Ellis. She married William F. "Bill" Granger on September 21, 1946 and he preceded her in death on November 21, 2005. Sarah is survived by her son Bruce A. (Jill) Granger of Rawson, daughter Connie Sue (Michael) Combs of Beavercreek, OH, three brothers; Chalmer Ellis of St. Clair, MI, Orval Ellis of St. Marys, OH, Vearl Ellis of VanWert, OH, three sisters; Betty (Norman) Schroeder of Midland, MI, Dorothy Anderson of Bluffton and Marjorie (Russell) Poor of Hoagland, IN, one grandchild, one step-grandchild and three step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Leonard Ellis, Kenneth Ellis, and sister Crystal Sherman. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2008, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Chaplain Bill Herr officiating. The burial will follow in Hassan cemetery, Van Buren Twp, Hancock County. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Sarah to the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton.

Jerry E. Lee

Loving husband and father Jerry E. Lee, 77, of Findlay passed away peacefully on October 8, 2008 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. He was born January 11, 1931 to the late Harold R. and Nydia (Balliet) Lee. He married Jean A. (Beagle) on January 29, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are three children, Brenda J. Lee of San Diego, Debra (Mark) Schimmoeller of Van Buren, Jeffrey E. Lee of San Diego and four grandchildren; Gregory E. Lee, and Matthew J., Heather M., and Wade P. Schimmoeller. Two sisters, Ada Bash of Arlington and Suzanne Marquart of Findlay also survive as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert J. and David A. Lee. Jerry was a 1948 graduate of McComb High School and received his education in mortuary science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He retired from Coldren-Crates Funeral Home in 2001 after 45 years of serving the public he loved so much. During those years he touched many, many people with his kind attention and devotion during their times of most need. Jerry was an Eagle Scout during his youth and was a long time member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, pursued his hobbies of cooking, gardening, camping and listening to big band music and served on the Board of Directors for Cancer Patient Services. Visitation will be on Saturday, October 11, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will be on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Dan Metzger and Tim Bash officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cancer Patient Services at 1800 N. Blanchard St. or Bridge Home Health & Hospice at 15100 Birchaven Lane in Findlay.

Judith A. Dirling

Judith A. (Emerson) Dirling, age 59, of Findlay, passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at Birchaven Health Care Center. She was born on August 24, 1949, in Brazil, IN to the late Thomas A. and Florence J. (Johnson) Riggs. Judith married Ken Dirling on March 17, 2000 and he survives in Findlay. She is also survived by her daughter Julie Dysert(Roger) Geyman of Burgoon, OH, son Chad (Jeanne) Emerson of FL, two brothers; Richard (Bernadine) Riggs of Findlay, John (Gloria) Riggs of FL and one sister; Patricia Harlan of IN, two step-daughters; Kimberley Griffiths of Reading, MI, Julie (Jeff) Lawless of Jonesville, MI, thirteen very special grandchildren and two beautiful great-granddaughters. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Rebecca Lewis, Mary Brooker and her brother Donald Riggs. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2008, from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2008, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Chuck Albright officiating. Burial will follow in Knollcrest cemetery, East of Findlay. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Judith to Birchaven Health Care Center. Judith spent many months in the care of BVH and Birchaven Rehab Center and through her kind spirit and perseverance touched the lives of many people and many hearts will be touched by her passing. The family wishes to express many thanks to all our wonderful friends at Birchaven Rehab Center for all the love and care of our beloved Judith. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Mildred J. Oldham

Mildred J. Oldham, 69, of Findlay, died at 11:55 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2007 at the Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. She was born on February 27, 1937 in East Point, KY to the late Ollie and Lydia (Auxier) Conley. She married Jerdan E. Wickam and they were divorced. She later married Kenneth A. Oldham on August 1, 1975 and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Robin Wickham of Findlay; a brother, Raymond Conley of Findlay; sisters, Lyda Auxier of Findlay and Irene Kendrick of Willowood, OH; mother-in-law, Bernice E. Oldham of Findlay; a sister-in-law, Carolyn J. Tieje of McComb. Preceding her in death were brothers, Dewey and James R. Conley; sisters, Imogene Dingus, Eunice Robinson and Wanda Tackett; father-in-law, George E. Oldham. Mildred was a homemaker. She loved dogs and is survived by her Poodle, Cody Gold Dust. She was a former member of the East Point Church of Christ in KY, where she was Baptised and former member of the Citizen Band Radio Operator's and went by the CB Handle "Sweet Pea". A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Andrew Douglas officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay. Visitation will be from 2-4and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asthma Foundation in her memory.

Dorothy Thespina Bury

Dorothy Thespina Bury died Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Regency Medical Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. Dorothy was born to the late Anthony and Evelyn (Gouch) Mouginis in Canton, Ohio. On June 29, 1946 she married Joseph Bury in Cleveland, Ohio and he preceded her in death on November 3, 1998. She is survived by her two sons Joel D. (Linda) Bury of Sylvania and Jeffrey D. Bury, Phd, of Findlay. In addition to her sons she is survived by her grandchildren Brian, Bradford, Kristen and Jason Bury; a brother George Mouginis of Olmstead Falls, Ohio; and a sister Jean (John) Wickham of Ramona, California. Dorothy was a graduate of West Technical High School in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1991 she retired from the Centrex Corporation as a Corporate Secretary and Officer of Centrex. She belonged to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Sarah Circle; Disciple Bible Study, Wesley Sunday School Class, Fostoria Power Squadron, Holiday Rambler Travel Trailor Club, Altrusa Club of Findlay Past Presidents, American Business Women, and numerous Bridge Clubs. Visitation will be Monday, October 13, 2008 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made in Dorothy's memory to support Travel Ministry at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church.

Maxine Hoffman

Maxine Hoffman, 89, of Bowling Green, died at 6:20 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2008 at the Blakely Care Center, Bowling Green. She was born on August 26, 1919 in Wayne, Ohio to the late Edmund and Belva (Donaldson) Billingsley. She married John R. Bateson and he preceded her in death. She later married Wayne Hoffman and he also preceded her in death. Maxine was the former manager of the University Dairy Bar and retired from Bill and Peg's Restaurant in Tontogany, OH. She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Brigham of North Baltimore; a son, Jerry Bateson of Portage; a sister, Jean Frankfather of Jerry City; 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were 8 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay, with Reverend Chris Cravens officiating. Arrangements are handled by COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in her memory.

Royal E. Smith

Royal E. Smith, 82, of Findlay, died at 11:00 p.m., Friday, October 10, 2008, at his residence. He was born on August 1, 1926, in Arcadia to the late George and Rosie (Campbell) Smith. He married Edna Louise (Benedict) Smith on August 11, 1945, and she survives. Also surviving are daughters: Kaye (Ernest) Weaver of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Joyce (Buddy) Robinson of Palmetto, FL; sons: Mark (Claudia) Smith of Findlay and Nathan (Mary) Smith of Perrysburg; sisters: Evangeline and Inez; grandchildren: Adam, Rachael and Rebecca. Preceding him in death were 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Royal was a self employed painting contractor. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1944 and attended the Upper Room Church of God. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Bishop Terry McBeath officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens east of Findlay. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.
