Martha E. Bell

Martha E. Bell, 98, of Findlay, died at 7:45 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2008 at St. Catherine's Care Center, Findlay. She was born on February 29, 1909 in Findlay to the late Clark E. and Frazie (Tabor) Miller. She married Earl "Bob" Bell on July 2, 1927 and he preceded her in death on June 20, 1996. Martha was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay and hand painted China for over 40 years. She is survived by grandsons, Craig of Lake Worth, FL, Brad, Brent, Brian and Cris Bell, all of rural Findlay; 14 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death was a son, William R. Bell; brothers, Lloyd, Clark and Joe Miller; a sister, Mary Ellen Miller. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Reverend Gordon Dickson officiating. Burial will be in Salem cemetery, Jackson Township. Visitation will be held 1 hour (10 a.m. - 11 a.m.) prior to the service at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, Findlay in her memory.

Katharyn Maxine Crates

Katharyn Maxine Crates, age 92, of rural Arcadia died at 10:15 PM Monday, January 21, 2008 at The Heritage Care Center. She was born December 11, 1915 in Cass Twp., Hancock County to the late Arthur and Amanda (Baker) Huffman. On October 28, 1937, she married Loren A. Crates and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1989. She is survived by son, Larry E. Crates of rural Arcadia; and two grandchildren, Daniel R. Smith and Denisa L. Molineaux. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clair Huffman and sister, Marian Gobel. Mrs. Crates was a graduate of Arcadia High School and a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 25, 2008 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Mike Miller officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and for one our prior to the services (10:00-11:00 AM) Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church in her memory.

Kelsey Ruth Magee

Kelsey Ruth Magee, age 15, passed away on Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born on February 5, 1992 to Weldon "Red" and Ruth (Williams) Magee and they survive in rural Benton Ridge. Kelsey is survived by her three brothers Jeremiah of Findlay and Christopher and Ryan at home and one sister Kaitlyn at home; maternal grandparents Darl (Violet) Williams of Findlay and paternal grandmother Violet Magee and the late Oscar Magee of Benton Ridge. Kelsey was dearly loved by her aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Kelsey's smile and bubbly personality will be sadly missed by all. Kelsey was a sophomore at Liberty Benton High School where she was active in volleyball, fast pitch softball, indoor track and summer softball. She also worked the concession stands at both Liberty Benton High School and Benton Ridge Park and was formerly involved in Gray Y Basketball, Gusmacker, Jr. high basketball, track, volleyball, was on the All-Star Softball Team for two years and was active in Campus Life. Kelsey was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Benton Ridge where she was involved in the nursery, vacation bible school and was the sound controller for the choir. She loved to spend time with her friends, babysitting and snowmobiling with her family in Michigan. Visitation will be held on SUNDAY, January 27th, 2008 at the COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, from 1:00 - 8:00 pm and for one hour (10:00 - 11:00)prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on MONDAY, January 28th, 2008 at Gateway Church, 9555 CR 9, Findlay with Pastor Dick Powell officiating. Interment will follow in the Benton Ridge cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Kelsey to the Kelsey Ruth Magee Scholarship Fund.

George Gaston Bledsoe

George G. Bledsoe, age 86, of Findlay passed away at 8:35 AM Monday, January 28, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his family. George Gaston Bledsoe, son of Mary and Escoe (Savage) Bledsoe, was born on December 30, 1921 in Livingston, Tennessee. They moved to Akron, Ohio where George attended Akron University on the G.I. Bill. He belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. George was trained as a Navy pilot and served from 1942-1946. In 1949, he married Berta Louise Triplett and together they had three children: Karen Bledsoe Hop of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Kathie Bledsoe of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Donald Bledsoe of Findlay, Ohio. Berta Louise has preceded George with her passing in 1979. George lived in Chicago, Illinois before he began working in Findlay in the insurance and real estate field. He retired in 1986 from his own brokerage, Bledsoe Realty. He belonged to the Findlay Elk's Lodge BPOE #75, St. Andrews United Methodist Church and Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church in Arizona. George and his loving companion since 1992, Ethel Stowe, have resided in Sun City West, Arizona and Findlay, Ohio. George is also survived by two sisters and has extended family from Akron, Ohio ; Columbus, Ohio; and from Arizona. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME with Chaplain David Templeton officiating. Burial will be at Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay (on SR 12). Visitation will be from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bridge Home Health and Hospice or the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Rebecca "Becky" D. Carlson

Rebecca "Becky" Dianne Carlson of Kansas and Findlay, Ohio went off to rest her tired soul July 23, 2008. She left at the age of 48, due to complications from a pulmonary embolism that occurred on July 20th. She was first taken to Fostoria Hospital where she spent her last days surrounded by family. Beck was born in Maywood, Calif. on July 9, 1960 to Leo Hays and Judy DuPriest, but spent most of her childhood in Ohio with father Leo and stepmother Roberta (Sommers) Hays with help from aunt, Patricia Hays (Tiffin, Ohio). From age 15 and on, she lived with her mother Judy in Bell Gardens, CA and became a California girl. At 20, she married her life long companion, Timothy Carlson on October 11, 1980 in La Mirada, California. Tim and Becky have 3 children and were raising granddaughter Destinee. The two joined and raised their children in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Ten years ago the family moved from New Mexico to Ohio to be close to family. Becky dreamed big and lived life to the fullest. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, interior decorating, collecting inspiring quotes and watching TV shows such as Gilmore Girls, Judging Amy, and Crossing Jordan. Becky had many she considered family such as friends, far and near, and her neighbors. Her greatest love was her family as her spirit still helps them go on each day. She was the backbone of her family, dedicating her life to them. Becky had a strong spirit which shown bright on all who met her. Those to greet her at heaven's gates are Brother Dayle Hays; nieces Christie Hays and Beverly Carlson; Nephews Christopher Hays and Daniel Preble; parents-in-laws, Norma and Robert Blair, Paul Carlson; Grandparents, Josephine DuPriest, Edna Hays, Phyllis and Vernon Sommers; Uncle, Gilbert Bintz; friend Brenda Hemminger; and many more loving family and friends. Those left to say goodbye are husband, Tim (Kansas, Ohio); children, James Carlson and Tabatha Rizor, Timothy II and Renee(Snow) Carlson and Candilyn Carlson: parents, Leo and Roberta Hays (Kansas, Ohio) and Judy DuPriest (San Jacinto, California); Siblings Robert and Gina Hays, Brian Hayes, Leo Hays II, Tineke (Hays) and David Heilman, Margaret Hays; Grandchildren Gage Watson, Destinee and Autumn Stanfield, Savannah Carlson, and Ariea Carlson. Also wishing goodbye to Becky are 18 nieces and nephews, 2 great nieces Ava and Destiny; and many more loving family and friends who miss her dearly. Visitation will be held on Friday July 25, 2008 from 5-8pm at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky St. Findlay, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6482 C.R. 18, Findlay, Ohio where visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of services. Memorials may be made to the family to establish an educational fund for the grandchildren at The Chase Bank on Tiffin Ave. in Findlay, Ohio.

Naoma Gale Bowman

Naoma Gale Bowman, age 58, of Findlay went to be with Jesus on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born in Findlay on June 18, 1950 to the late Floyd G and Zella (Thompson) Yoakam. She married Robert E. Bowman on December 4, 1970 in the First Assembly of God Church in Findlay. She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Gay Lynn Bowman-Stewart; her son-in-law Major Tyler Stewart (Army); three grandchildren, Alexandria, Austen and Adriana; her brother Charles; his wife Mary Yoakam of Arcadia, Ohio and their two sons, Jason and Chad Yoakam; and their families. Gale graduated from Findlay Senior High School in 1969. As a homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting (a craft she was very talented in) collecting hobnail milkglass, small oil lamps and jewelry. She also loved having flowers and house plants. She also enjoyed shopping for clothes and being outdoors. Gale attended Blanchard Avenue Pentecostal Church of God in Findlay. She also attended the First Assembly of God in Lake Wales, Florida during the winter months. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the First Assembly of God, 124 Ash Avenue, Findlay. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church. Pastor Leonard Roessler and Pastor Terry McBeath will officiate. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Blanchard Avenue Pentecostal Church of God in Findlay; First Assembly of God in Findlay; First Assembly of God in Lake Wales, Florida; Central Health of Findlay or a charity of the donator's choice.

Frances B. Capponi

Frances B. Capponi, 86, of Findlay passed away at 6:06 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at her residence. She was born on April 28, 1924 to the late Frank and Maria (Ciaffi) Brown in Mansfield, OH. She married Joseph Capponi on September 19, 1946, and he preceded her in death in May 27, 2005. She is survived by one son, Vincent (Elizabeth) Capponi of New Jersey; three daughters: Angela (Theodore) Eidt of Findlay, Mary Pfister of Chicago, IL, and Christine Capponi of Findlay; sister, Rosa Sirotti of Italy; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Frances was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, reading, her plants but most of all her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, downtown, with Father Shaji Thomas celebrant. Burial will be in St. Michael cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorial can be made in her memory to St. Michael School Educational Fund and/or the Church, in her memory.

Paul Edward Garrett

Paul E. Garrett, 89 of Alvada, died at 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Bridge Hospice Care Center. He was born in Hancock County on December 19, 1922 to the late Albert and Lottie Belle (Coldren) Garrett. On June 6, 1943 he married Marguerite "Sue" Spitler and she preceded him in death on April 3, 1992. Surviving are two children, Ted (Linda) Garrett and Peggy (Bob) Hill both of West Independence, two sisters, Fran (Loren) Phillips of Bowling Green and Mary (Jack) Hochstettler of Wharton, five grandchildren; Curtis, Terry, David, Teania, Robert, twelve great grandchildren, sister-in-law Mearl Garrett and a close friend, Martha King. Paul was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene (Virginia) Garrett, Dick Garrett and three sisters, Laura (Gene) Miller, Martha (Frank) Killien and Ruth (Bill) Wighaman. Paul was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed the country life, especially horses and raising livestock. He worked at Union Carbide Corporation in Fostoria. Paul was a lifelong member of Arcadia United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2012 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with pastor Bruce Crane officiating. Burial will follow in Van Horn cemetery, Amanda Township. Memorial contributions can be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice.

Ronald Lee Shaffer

Ronald Lee Shaffer, 75, of Findlay passed away at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Ronald was born on February 17, 1936, to the late Floyd and Lola (Lee) Shaffer in Findlay. Ronald married Bonnie C. West on February 27, 1960, and she survives. Ronald is also survived by son, Timothy L. (Rhonda L.) Shaffer of Findlay; daughter, Kim M. (Mark) Greer of Van Buren; and four grandchildren: Adam and Sarah Greer and Connor and Brandon Shaffer. Ronald was a 1954 graduate of Vanlue High School. He worked for and retired from Kuss Corp. Ronald attended Salem Cass United Methodist Church. He loved his dog, Chloe, camping, the Cleveland Indians and Browns, and most of all his grandchildren and attending all of their sporting and musical activities. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay with Rev. Ray Kane officiating. Burial will follow in Lee cemetery, Amanda Twp., Hancock County. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Salem Cass United Methodist Church.

Emily Louise Geren

Emily L. Geren, 83 of Findlay died at 3:06 p.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. She was born in Lima on May 26, 1928, to the late Harold C. and Esther (Lauck) Albridge. On July 3, 1947 she married Thurman Geren and he preceded her in death on April 9, 2005. Surviving are two daughters, Toni Geren of rural Findlay, Shirley (Rich) Rough of Beavercreek, OH., brother Fred Albridge of Cleveland, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and her special cat, Peanut Butter. She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery Lynn Geren and a sister, Unella Belle Albridge. Emily was a 1946 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. She enjoyed working in the apple orchard she and her husband owned. Emily also enjoyed gardening, flowers and crafting. She was also a partner for 25 years in The Final Touch. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Maple Grove cemetery with Pastor Chris Cravens officiating and burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Findlay City Mission.

Susan D. Markley

Susan D. Markley, 64 of Kenton died at 8:09 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. She was born on July 10, 1947, in Findlay to the late John E. and Mary K. (Davis) Below. She married H. Tom Shull and they divorced. Susan then married Fred Markley on June 29, 2000 and he survives. She is also survived by three children: Andrea (Mark) Miller of South Elgin, IL., Shawn (Lea Nolan) Shull and Casey (Karen) Shull both of Cincinnati, step-son, Michael E. (Barbara) Markley of Beavercreek, OH., three brothers; Mike (Judy Gaulden) Below of Ft. Wayne, IN., Patrick (Jan) Below of Sycamore, OH., Tim (Sally) Below of Findlay, two sisters; Sherry (Mike) Streicher of Bluffton and Becky (Mike) Crawford of Findlay. Five grandchildren; Jackson Ryan Shull, Johnnah and Gabrielle Markley, Matt and Brad Miller. Among the many friends who were there for her, Shirley Morgan is appreciated for the time she spent overnight as family. Susan worked for Marathon Oil Company in the Production Accounting Department for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, musical theatre, children and coffee with her friends. Susan never met a stranger. She was also a member of College First Church of God, Findlay. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay and for one hour (10:00 - 11:00 a.m.) prior to the service. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor David Welker officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, Hardin County Community Foundation, The Good Will, The Salvation Army Store or Hope House.

Jane Carolyn Barbieri

Jane Carolyn Barbieri, 79, of Findlay passed away at 4:25 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Jane was born on October 16, 1932, to the late Paul and Ruby (Emrick) Weiler in Bucyrus. Jane married John C. Barbieri on June 18, 1955, and he preceded her in death on December 10, 2000. Jane is survived by children: Kathleen E. (David) Link of Arlington, TX; Michael G. (Ronda) Barbieri of Columbus, IN, and Steven P. (Debbie) Barbieri of Cary, NC; brother, Kenneth P. Weiler of Findlay; six grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Jane was a 1950 graduate of Union City High School and a 1954 graduate of Miami University. Jane was a homemaker and sewed window treatments for Hutchinson's. Jane was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she was part of the Vestery for four years, past president and member of AAUW and Natures Housekeepers Garden Club, and member of the League of Women Voters. Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Chaplain Elizabeth Kelly will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery. All arrangements entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, The Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation, and/or to the Mazza Museum.
