William R. Schnake

William R. "Bill" Schnake, 66, of Findlay passed away at 1:38 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Birchaven Village, Findlay. He was born on November 20, 1945, to the late Elroy A. and Louise M. (Buettner) Schnake in Effingham, IN. He married Cheryl M. Siefker on November 29, 1975, and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2000. William is survived by son, Kevin P. (Adrian) Schnake of Omak, WA; foster son, George Miller of McComb, OH; brothers: Donald G. Schnake of Grosse Ile, MI and John R. Schnake of Omaha, NE; and granddaughter, Lydia Schnake. William worked for and retired from Roadway Express after 30 years of service as a dock supervisor. He was a member of the sewing club and UCOA. William was always said to be very creative and artistic. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, where visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in Knollcrest Gardens. Pastor Robert Krueger will officiate.

Edward L. Myers

Edward L. Myers, 88, of Findlay passed away at 8:46 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was born on July 13, 1923, to the late Lester S. and Irene C. (Wohlgamuth) Myers in Findlay, Ohio. He married Marie M. Roberts on July 25, 1943, and she preceded him in death on May 24, 1995. He then married Helen M. Beck on October 10, 1996, and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2008. Edward is survived by two sons: Lester W. (Rosemary W.) and Jonathan E. (Kathy A.) Myers both of Findlay; daughters: Sandra A. (Ricky J.) Sims of Findlay, Elizabeth I. (Keith) Cullom of Goleta, CA and Joyce E. Carlisle of Santa Barbara CA; sisters: Geraldine E. DeHays of Findlay and Phyllis J. Pifer of Atlanta, GA; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by brothers: William A. and Larry D. Myers; and sisters: Betty L. Lawrence and Marilyn A. Smith. Edward served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Edward was the owner of Edward L. Myers Inc. and Myers House of Color. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Findlay and Zion Lutheran Church in Ft. Myers, FL. He was also a member of the Findlay Fishing Club. Edward formed the Findlay Chapter of the Painters Union. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Findlay, where visitation will begin one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Pastor Thomas Lyberg will officiate and burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and/or Bridge Home Health and Hospice.

Jack D. Carnicom

Jack Carnicom, 92, of Cygnet, died at 10:10 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green. He was born on June 5, 1919,in Bowling Green to the late Earl and Edith (King) Carnicom. He married Geraldine Snyder of October 30, 1942, and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jackie Luman of Cygnet; grandchildren: Rick Luman and Suzanne (Joe) Recker; great-grandchildren: Alicia (Jason) Strein, MacKenzie Luman, Lucas and Clinton Recker. Jack retired as a General Manager for the Federal Buildings in Toledo. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Cygnet. All funeral services will be private family. Burial will be in Jerry City cemetery, Portage Township. Arrangements are entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice and/or Faith United Methodist Church, Cygnet.

Charlotte M. Burton

Charlotte M. Burton, 63, of Findlay, died at 7:20 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. She was born on July 23, 1948, in Findlay, to the late Erwin and Virginia (May) Burton. Charlotte is survived by a brother, Tracy (Sunny) Burton of Avon Park, FL; a niece, Jennifer (David) Zehender of Findlay; great-nieces: Jules, Jayme, Jordan and Justine; a great-nephew, Jesse Zehender. Charlotte retired from RCA/Harris Corporation and later worked at Home Depot. She was a member of the Daughter of 1812 Peter Navarre Chapter, colonial Dames XVII Century Lady Grace Chetwood. She was a 1966 graduate of Findlay High School. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Reverend Chris Cravens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Findlay. Visitation will be held 1 hour (1:00-2:00 p.m.) prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock County Humane Society and/or COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Avenue, Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133.

Robert A. Fornof

Robert A. Fornof, 84, of Findlay, at 12:41 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011, has Gone to be with God. He passed at his residence surrounded by family. He and a twin sister, Rosemary were born on June 8, 1927 in Cleveland, OH to the late Robert A. and Marie (Starek) Fornof. He married Marilyn L. Johnson in Findlay on August 2, 1950. Marilyn died August 1, 1974. Bob then married Carol A. (Insley) Higginbotham on May 28, 1983, and she survives in Findlay. Also surviving are five sons: Robert M., David, James, and Mark all of the Findlay area and Martin C. Higginbotham of Danielson, CT; six daughters: Linda (James) Davison, Lisa (Adam) Laureano, Jacquelyn Heldman, Jennifer Neer all of Findlay, Jane (Ed) Barker of Wayne, OH and Kathy Mollica of North Canton, OH; twin sister, Rosemary Ruppert of Parma, OH; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Fornof who passed away July 31, 1995 and by brother Frederick Fornof. Bob was the chief chemist at Norbalt Rubber Co. in North Baltimore for 23 years before he retired in 1986. He enjoyed bowling at the Ten Pin in North Baltimore and shooting pool. He also liked to work on motorcycles and cars. He also loved his hometown favorites the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He was a member of Howard United Methodist Church. A Celebration of Life service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. CLM Marianne Higley and Pastors James and Linda Davison will officiate and burial will follow in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Portage Twp., Hancock County, OH. Memorials may be made to Howard United Methodist Church or Bridge Hospice in his memory.

Gene Winston Cronenwett

Gene Winston Cronenwett, 87, of Findlay, passed away at 7:35 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay. He was born on May 31, 1924, to the late Walter and Mary (Nichols) Cronenwett in Galion. Gene married Emily J. Snively in Bellaire, OH on July 11, 1953, and she survives. Gene is also survived by two sons: Dan (Terri) Cronenwett of South Jordan, UT and Drew (Janell) Cronenwett of Dayton; a daughter, Celia (Harry) Stockton of Dacula, GA; seven grand-children, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Gene was assigned to the Northern Pacific Fleet in 1945, for the surrender of the Japanese Northern Naval Guard at Honshu. During his service time he played trumpet in a Navy Band. Gene graduated from Capital University and got his Masters from The Ohio State University. Gene worked and retired after 23 years for the Ohio State Highway Patrol in the Radio Division as a radio technician. Upon his retirement he opened and operated Crown Communications. He was a former member of the Findlay Radio Club. He attended College First Church of God, Findlay. Gene performed with many dance bands is Mansfield, Dayton, Columbus, and the Findlay Civic Band. He was a former marching band director and member of the National SPEBSQSA Barber Shop Chapter. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay, with Pastor David Welker officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Gardens, east of Findlay, where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veteran's Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m., Monday at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME. Memorial contributions may be made to College First Church of God and/or Bridge Home Health and Hospice.

Ruth Eileen Mills

Ruth Eileen Mills, 81, of Findlay, died on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 1:36 p.m. at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Ruth was born on November 1, 1928 in Fostoria, OH to the late Raymond and Ella (Hansen) Henline. Ruth married Eugene "Gene" Mills on September 5, 1948, and he preceded her in death on October 16, 2004. They were married for 56 years. She is survived by a son, Scott (Joy) Mills of Vanlue, OH; three daughters: Marcia (Robin) Cooper of Findlay, OH, Barbara Mills of Tiffin, OH and Karen (Jon) Taschler of Findlay, OH. She also has nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Sandy Biggs and two sisters: Martha Henline and Lavonne Wagner. Ruth was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Findlay and had been the secretary at the Moose Lodge where she was a life member. She was known for being a great cook and truly loved her grandchildren and family. Ruth always wanted to be close to her family and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks to Ruth's "Extended Family" at Birchaven for all that they have done for her and their cherished friendship. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME in Findlay. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at First Lutheran Church in Findlay with additional visitation one hour prior to the services at the church. Pastor Bob Cochran Sr. will officiate and burial will follow in Knollcrest Gardens, East of Findlay. Memorials can be made in her memory to either The First Lutheran Church in Findlay or to the American Diabetes Fund.

Ferne E. VanHorn

Ferne Ellen VanHorn, age 90, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, June 30, 2011, at Birchaven Heights, Findlay. She was born June 8, 1921, in Newton Township, Calhoun County, Michigan to the late Allen and Lillie (Bruce) Brooking. She married Ray Lincoln VanHorn in Highland Park, Michigan on August 2, 1946, and he preceded her in death in 1983. She was very active in Women’s Clubs in New Jersey where she was a state officer and in North Carolina where she was President for several terms. She was a Hospice volunteer in North Carolina and an avid duplicate bridge player. Although she was handicapped in her later years by hearing and vision loss, her incredible memory enabled her to compensate well for these losses. Ferne is survived by her son, Ray Leroy VanHorn of Annapolis, MD and his wife Lynne, grandson, Ray Lawrence VanHorn and his wife Lauren, granddaughter, Katie VanHorn Gurcan and her husband Gem, and 6 great-grandchildren, Ray Leland, Madeline, Harrison and Meredith VanHorn and Kevin and Bryan Gurcan. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at 1:00 PM, First Presbyterian Church, South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio. Viewing at the church from 11:00 to 1:00 PM will precede the service. Burial will follow at Spring Grove cemetery, Carey, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Macular Degeneration Foundation. COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay is in charge of arrangements.

William Joseph "Bill" Hession

William Joseph "Bill" Hession, 73, of Findlay, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at The University of Toledo Medical Center. He was born on March 22, 1938 in New Haven, Connecticut. On November 10, 1962, he married Angela Fisher and she preceded him in death on February 9, 1998. Bill then married Barbara Reinhardt on February 24, 2001, and she survives. He is also survived by his children: Tracy Hession of Findlay, Hugh (Rosalyn) Hession of Macon, GA., Peter (AJ) Hession of Columbus, step-sons: Michael Hunze and Steven (Nicky) Hunze both of Canada, sister-in-law Brigitte Brandi of California, grandchildren; Ethan Dearsman, Jacob Hession, Kennedy Hession, Kali and Keaton Thomas and step-grandchildren, Chloe Brigitte and Kailyn Stokes. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Chemical Engineering and received his MBA from Bowling Green State University. Bill worked as Director of Product Assurance for Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. for many years. Bill was a member the Blanchard Valley Hospital Auxiliary, was a Chairperson of the Courtesy Escort Service and served on the Board of Cancer Patient Services. He was also a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (East) with Rev. Msgr. Michael Hohenbrink officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Edith M. Smith

Edith M. Smith, 93, of Findlay, died at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011, at her residence with her daughters at her side. She was born on January 17, 1918, in Spring Township, PA to the late Robert B. and Clara E. (Schultz) Barton. She married Glenn F. Smith on November 15, 1934, and he preceded her in death on May 26, 1986. She is survived by her daughters: Judith (Ivars) Magons of Wadsworth, OH, Patricia (William) Huhn of Great Falls, MT and Bonita (Craig) Wykoff of Leipsic, OH; grandchildren: Rachel, Kaitlyn, Jennifer, Adam, Carolyn, Michael and Danielle; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were brothers: Leon, Amos, Howard, Frederick and Floyd Barton; and sisters: Bertha Tozier, Clara Knickerbocker, Ruby Spore, Viola Barton and Helen Barton. Edith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She formerly worked for Olson's Bakery and as manager of The Pottery in Ashtabula, OH. She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Albion, PA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011, in the Masonic section of Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville, OH, with Reverend William Bruehl officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, 205 West Sandusky Street, Findlay, OH 45840. Contributions may be made to Bridge Home Health and Hospice, Findlay, OH, in her memory.

Sheila K. Chatelain

Sheila K. Chatelain, 48, of Findlay passed away at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2011, at her residence. She was born on June 4, 1962, to Terry L. and Barbara (Rutter) Shelley, Sr. in Findlay, OH, and they both survive in FL.Sheila married Bradd J. Chatelain on June 1, 2004, and he survives. Sheila is also survived by a stepson, Jasonn J. (Roxanne) Chatelain of Bluffton, OH; daughter, Kyla J. Chatelain of Findlay; brother, Terry Shelley, Jr. of Bowling Green, OH; sisters: Stephanie Nichols of Denver, CO and Linda (Doug) Meadows of Beaver, PA; nephews: Jacob and Brandon Meadows and Joe Nichols; and step-granddaughter, Natasha. She worked for Whirlpool for 23 years and also worked as a secretary for the Ohio Property Group. She was a member of College First Church of God. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and wife. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 11, 2011, at the Knollcrest cemetery Chapel, where visitation will take place one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Pastors Brad Adams and David Welker will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Sheila Shelley Chatelain Fund at 5/3 Bank.

Clinton E. Staley

Clinton Edward Staley, 89, of Carey and formerly of Rawson, Ohio passed away at 6:00 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. Clinton was born in Jackson Twp., Wyandot Co., OH on December 5, 1921 to the late Lawrence and Lola (Long) Staley. On August 12, 1945, he married Cora Benner who preceded him in death. He is survived by four daughters: Diane E. (Daniel) Hogue of Findlay, Linda A. (David) Taylor of Goleta, CA, Laura J. (Tim) Beaschler of Longmont, CO, and Beth (Roger) Bumb of Carey. He is survived by his in-laws, Velma Benner, Darl and Florence Benner, all of Findlay, and Jerry and Ruby Tusing of Tiffin, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Clinton was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph. Clinton was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, having served with the 89th Troop Carrier Squadron during WWII as an airplane and engine mechanic in the European Theater. He had been employed as a welder with Bendix, owned his own TV-Radio Shop in Rawson, worked as a rural mail carrier and school bus driver. Clinton enjoyed building model airplanes, receiving a pilot's license and flying a small plane, boat building, fishing and gardening. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Arlington cemetery, Madison Twp., Hancock County, OH. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
