Imogene Hodges

LANCASTER - Imogene Hodges, 93, of Lancaster, died Thursday, December 18, 2003, at Lanfair Center in Lancaster. Imogene was the mother of Ellengene Peterson of Athens.
There will be no services at the request of the family.

Gilbert P. “Gib” Cooper, Sr.

THE PLAINS – Gilbert P. “Gib” Cooper, Sr, 86, of The Plains, died Tuesday evening, December 9, 2003, at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.
Born November 4, 1917, in New Marshfield, he was the son of the late John Edward and Carrie Chesser Cooper.
Gib was an area auto mechanic for most of his life and an avid hunter.
He is survived by three sons, Gary (Jeanne) Cooper of Athens, Gilbert Jr. (Linda) Cooper of Athens, and Edward (Melissa) Cooper of Nelsonville; two daughters, Brenda (Terry) Robinette of Nelsonville, and June (Bill) Foughty of Redtown; twelve grandchildren, Carrie April, Tiffiny, Jonathon, Amy, Jamie, Penny, Michelle, Ryan, Patricia, Shawn, Billy, and Teresa; and seven great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary B.; a son, Jackie; two grandsons, Jerry and Larry; one great grandson, Jacob; and four brothers.
Services will be held Friday, at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be at Grahams Chapel cemetery, Shade.
Friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Eugene H. Poppenhaeger

ATHENS – Eugene H. Poppenhaeger, 82, of Athens, died Monday evening, December 8, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born December 12, 1920, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Rachel McLaughlin Poppenhaeger.
Eugene was retired from the Central Ohio Paper Company and was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of the Athens VFW, Post 3477, and the American Legion, Post 21.
He is survived by two sons, Paul Poppenhaeger and fiancé Tina Lott of Pleasantville, and Pete (Bev) Poppenhaeger of Reynoldsburg; six grandchildren Heidi, Dusty, Chad, Terry, Jr., Eric, and Bethany.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Bettie, 1972, and Ruth, 1995.
Services will be held Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens. Burial will be at Athens Memory Gardens where military services will be conducted by the Athens VFW and the Athens American Legion.
Friends may call the funeral home on Wednesday, from 5-8 p.m.

Patsy Slagle

STEWART – Patsy M. Slagle, 60, of Stewart, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2003, at Selby General Hospital, Marietta.
Born March 19, 1943 in Bakersfield, CA, she was the daughter of the late Hayes and Mary Goodin.
She is survived by her husband, Ron “Shrimpboat” Slagle; a son Robert “Buddy” (Holly) Anderson; a daughter, Kimberly (Ron) Terry; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday, at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.
Entombment will be at Athens Memory Gardens cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service on Monday.

Sally J. Glover

ATHENS – Sally J. Glover, 64, of Athens, died Tuesday morning, November 25, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. She left us to be with the Lord and her husband, Charles “Bob” Glover.
Born November 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Eugene J. Hamer and Rachel M. Coots Hamer Stewart.
She was a former employee of the Athens County Home with over 20 years of service.
She is survived by three daughters, Lorri L. Glover of Athens, Jennifer S. (Edward D.) White of Chauncey, and Diana G. (Larry) Hansen of Athens; four grandchildren, Lynlee and Haylee White, and Brannen and Bryson Hansen; two sisters, Sue A. (Clifford) Lamborn of Massillon, and Jennifer K. (David) Fuller of Troy.
Services will be held Saturday, at 1:00 p.m., at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Pastor William Hixson officiating. Burial will be at West Union Street cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 5-8 p.m.

Robert H. Hawk

STEWART – Robert H. Hawk, 79, of Stewart, died Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Doctor’s Hospital in Nelsonville.
Born August 31, 1924 in Shade, Ohio, he was the son of the late Guy and Grace Buck Hawk.
Robert was a WWII veteran and was retired from GTE Phone Company. He was also an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son Robert (Carolyn) Hawk of Guysville; a daughter, Jan Hawk of Guysville; two grandchildren, Robin (Scott) Frazer of Miamisburg, and Travis Norton and fiancé Jerri Brown of Stewart.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Clifton Hawk; and a granddaughter, Karen Hawk.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at the Stewart cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by
Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

JOHN A. "SONNY" DEAL

ATHENS - John Arnold "Sonny" Deal, 73, of Athens, died Tuesday, November 18th, 2003 at Chillicothe Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was born April 10, 1930 in Morgan County, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Grace Carpenter Deal.
He was a US Army Veteran stationed in Europe during the Korean era, where he was a member of the Regimental Drill Team. He was a former employee of General Motors, Fawcett-Stone Funeral Home in Chesterhill, Buckeye Pipeline in the communication division, Graphite in McConnelsville, and Aero Research in Arizona. He also had drove a car carrier truck over the eastern United States, formerly a heavy equipment operator for Charlie Sloane, former paving company worker and was an area farmer, selling at the Athens Farmers Market for over 17 years.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita; three children, Steven (Sheila) Hashman of Albany, Tony (Joyce) Deal of Athens, Benita of Canton; several grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel "Skip" (Gene) Dicken of Athens, Peggy (Charles) Hallowell of Curtice, Ohio, Kay (Kenny) Grovely of Rochester, Mich., several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Sunday at 1:00 P.M. at Bates Methodist Church with Rev. Bill O'Brien officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Athens VFW, Post 3477 and the American Legional, Post 21 immediately following the service.
Friends may call at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens sat. 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: Canine Companions for Independence, 4989 Route 37 East, Delaware, Ohio 43015.

Elizabeth L. Fulton -

ATHENS – Elizabeth L. Fulton, 72, of Athens, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003, at her home.
Born April 19, 1931 in South Shore, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John Paul and Helen Elizabeth Lewis Jones.
She retired from the Athens State Mental Health Center as an LPN, with over 25 years of service. Elizabeth was active at the First Church of the Nazarene in Gallipolis, and the Word of God Community Church in The Plains.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Nina) Fulton of Gallipolis; two daughters, Rebecca (Ted) Martin of Millfield, and Linda (Kevin) Hoffman of Gallipolis; five grandchildren Robert, Daniel, and Hannah Fulton of Gallipolis, Kayla Hoffman of Gallipolis, and Cheri Martin of Millfield; a great granddaughter Cassidy Call of Lancaster; and a sister, Mary Jean (Eugene) Wahlstrom of Leesburg, FL.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Wanda Jones, and a granddaughter, Christina Martin Call.
Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m., at the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Reverend Gene Harmon officiating. Burial will be at Athens Memory Gardens.
Friends may call the funeral home on Friday, from 5-8 p.m, and Saturday, one hour prior to the service.

Ina Trout Kelly

NEW MARSHFIELD – Ina Trout Kelly, 97, of New Marshfield, passed away October 24, 2003, at Kimes Nursing Center.
Born March 25, 1906, in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Trout and Clara Hawk Trout Elliott, and was the last surviving member of her family.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Ethel Elliott of New Marshfield, Mary Elliott of Chillicothe, Irene Trout of Lindenhurst, IL, Delores Elliott of Lancaster, and Lena Elliott of Goshen, IN; nieces, Karen (Joe) Martin, Kenda (Ray) Secoy of New Marshfield, Clara Elliott of Nelsonville, Joelyn (Steve) Hopkins of San Antonio, TX, Mary (Bill) Baker of Columbus, Virginia (Gene) Sparks of Logan, Stella Cornell of Lancaster, Pat (Bill) Staufer, Mary Ognibene, Colleen (Don) Wilkinson of Cleveland, and Cathy Demer of South Carolina; nephews, Bill (Vicki) Elliott of New Marshfield, David (Barb) Ramsey of Columbus, and Fred Elliott of Goshen, IN, and several great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was proceeded in death by her husband, John Kelly; three brothers, Ernest, Garrett, and Dan Trout, a sister, Lela Ramsey; two half brothers, Kenneth and Elmer Elliott; four step brothers, Earl, Howard, Paul, and Fred Elliott.
Services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Reverend Willard Love officiating. Burial will be at New Marshfield cemetery.
Friends may call the funeral home, Sunday from 4-7 p.m.

Ruth Pierce

CHAUNCEY - Ruth W. Pierce, 79, of Chauncey, passed away on October 27, 2003, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, The Plains.
Born May 24, 1924, in Doanville, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Warren Frazee. Ruth retired from Ohio University in 1986.
She was a loving mother of two sons, Steve (Eileen) Pierce of Chauncey, Larry (Linda) of Chauncey, and a daughter, Karen Ross (Rick McKnabb) of Chauncey; grandchildren, Norman (Brandi) Pierce of New Marshfield, Connie Pierce of Chauncey, Tracey (Chuck) James of Athens, Erin (Casey) Burdette of Chauncey, Terry (Mary Kay) Ross of Chauncey; and Jodi (Jerry) Webster of Millfield. Ruth had 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; a brother, Robert (Alice) Frazee of Westerville; four sisters-in-law, Nancy Frazee of Chauncey, Viola (Virgie) Six of Athens, Mary Pierce of Salem, and Lucille Pierce of Millfield.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Herbert Pierce and Roy Hiles, and a brother, James Frazee.
Services will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Gary Alton officiating. Burial will be Hilltop cemetery.
Friends may call the funeral home, Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.

Liane L. Peerey

NEW MARSHFIELD – Liane L. Peerey, 75 of New Marshfield, passed away Monday, October 27, 2003, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
She was born May 1, 1928 in Konstantinovka, Ukraine. Liane was in the Dachau Concentration Camp, Germany where she was for 3 years.
Liane is survived and beloved by her husband Gilbert F. Peerey; children Tammy L. Miller and family of Athens, John and Becky Peerey and family of New Marshfield, Elizabeth L. Dingman and family of Texas, Edwin G. Peerey (deceased) and family of the Albany and Athens area; grandchildren John and Joshua Franklin, Mary Ann Peerey, Jennifer Caine, Steven and Adam Perrey, Melissa and Amy Miller.
She will be loved and missed greatly by all her family and friends.
At Liane’s request, she will be cremated and will be entombed at the Arlington National cemetery, Washington, D.C. Arrangements are by the Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.

INEZ KASLER

ATHENS – Inez Kasler, 79, of Athens, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, February 14, 2004, at O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
Born May 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Stella Dusz.
Inez was a 1942 graduate of Jacksonville-Trimble High School, and was a member of the United Brotheren Church of Jacksonville.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill Kasler; a son, Stephen of Athens; two sisters, Mary Thomas of West Jefferson, and Bobbie Shumway of Ashville.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Paul, and Keith Alan.
Services will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Gary Alton officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood cemetery, Glouster.
Friends may call at the funeral home, Sunday from 2-4 p.m.

LUCILLE LAMBERT

PRATTS FORK – Lucille Lambert, 95, of Pratts Fork, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at Crestview Manor, Lancaster.
Born November 19, 1908, in Pratts Fork, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Amanda Staneart Colburn.
Lucille is survived by three brothers, Wilburn Colburn of Lancaster; Wiley Colburn of Albany; and Carl Colburn of Lancaster; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Bean.
There will be no services at the request of family. Arrangements are being handled by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens.
