SHIRLEY A. POLLOCK

SHIRLEY A. POLLOCK, 72, formerly of So. 3rd. Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio.
She was born in Yorkville, Ohio on December 5, 1934, daughter of the late Francis J. and Wilma M. (Winters) Lemal.
She was a retired employee for the City of Martins Ferry / Riverview cemetery. Shirley was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, also of Martins Ferry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. "Spud" Pollock and a brother, Michael Lemal.
She is survived by son, Charles, husband of Cathy Pollock, Plain City, Oh.; daughter, Kimberly Diane, wife of Scott Garmatter, Bluffton, Oh.; sister, Frances Wilma Sockman, Tiltonsville, Oh. ; brother, John R., husband of Alma Lemal, Martins Ferry; four grandsons, Christopher, Casey, Jacob and Joshua.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Martins Ferry, at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007, with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant. Interment followed in Riverview cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Rosary was held Wednesday at 3 followed by wake service at 7:45 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to SMC 2000, 24 N. 4th Street, or Martins Ferry Fire Dept., both of Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935.

ALEX LUKENS

ALEX LUKENS, 85, of Totterdale Addition, Bridgeport, OH died Thursday, August 26, 2010.
He was born in Moundsville, W.Va. on November 14, 1924, a son of the late George and Anna (Houski) Luken.
He was a retired machinist at Croft Manufacturing, Tiltonsville, OH and a former employee of the former Valley Machine of Martins Ferry.
A W.W. II veteran of the U.S. Army, he saw service in the European Theatre of operation, serving as an anti-aircraft gunner, with ground combat service in Normandy.
He was a passionate and skilled builder and pilot of radio controlled model airplanes, a member of local flying clubs and had flown in numerous model plane air shows throughout the Ohio Valley and Eastern states.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Lela (Fisher) Lukens, preceded him in death.
He is survived by a brother, John Lukens of Germany.
Friends were received at the funeral home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service were held at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. William O. Webster officiating.
Interment followed in Holly Memorial Gardens Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
The Belmont Co. Council of the American Legion gave Military Honors at the funeral home prior to the service on Wednesday.

EILEEN R. CARPINO

EILEEN R. CARPINO, 89, of N. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio passed away Thursday, August 18, 2010 at her residence.
She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on August 13, 1921, a daughter of the late Vincent and Caroline (Greco) Carpino.
She was a retired Librarian of 35 years at Wheeling Jesuit University. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club of Martins Ferry. She received her undergraduate degree from Catherine Spaulding University and her graduate degree from Catholic University. She was awarded with an honorary doctorate from Wheeling Jesuit University.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney Carpino.
She is survived by two brothers, Joseph G. (Jean) Carpino, Bonita Springs, FL and James V. Carpino, Columbus, OH; sister, Mariann (Ralph) Blasingame, Potomac Falls, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends were received at the funeral home Sunday from Noon until 3 p.m.
Memorial Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 with Rev. Thomas Marut as the celebrant.
Interment was held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Rosary Devotions was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to SMC 2000, 24 N. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio 43935.

KENNETH C. TRAVIS

KENNETH C. TRAVIS, "KENNY", 70, of N. 7th Street, Martins Ferry, OH passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 after a courageous hard-fought battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Ken was born in Martins Ferry, OH on March 19, 1940 a son of the late Ben and Ruth (French) Travis.
He is survived by Bonnie, his best friend and mother of his two beloved sons, Ken (Erica) of Allen, TX and Derek (Victoria) of London, OH. He is also survived by two very special grandsons, Connor Benjamin and Nathaniel Thomas Travis of Allen; two brothers, Bob Travis of Rayland, OH and Dale ( Ruthie) Travis of Tiltonsville, OH and a sister, Ruth Lee (Dennis) Trimbo of Billings, MT.
Ken was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers serving in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4811, Yorkville, OH and a member of the American Legion Post 38 of Martins Ferry. He retired from the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel after 38 years of employment. Ken was an avid bass angler and previously was very involved with the Belmont Bass Masters. He was loved deeply by his family and never knew a "stranger".
Friends were received at the funeral home Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. with Blair White officiating.
Interment was held at the convenience of the family in Upland cemetery, Yorkville, OH

LLOYD LEE SHRODES

LLOYD LEE SHRODES, "BUD" 78, of Martins Ferry, OH. passed away Friday, August 6, 2010.
He was born in Martins Ferry, OH on March 14, 1932, a son of the late Arnold Lee and Geneva M. (Henry) Shrodes.
For the City of Martins Ferry he served as a police officer for 10 years and Police Chief for 22 years. He was also the former Mayor of Martins Ferry for two terms. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. Member of several Veteran organizations; Past President M. F. Lions Club; served on the ethics committee of the Ohio Police Chiefs Association; Children's Services Board of Belmont Co. He taught Law Enforcement Classes. Bud was an avid hunter and fisherman and also a small plane pilot. He was a Muddy Hollow Gang Member. He never met a stranger and had many, many friends. He will be sadly missed and loved by all, especially his dog, Toby Magee.
Bud is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce M. (Hawthorne) Shrodes, he was the LOVE of her life; three sons, Randy A. Shrodes, Martins Ferry, OH; Joseph W. (Susan) Jozwiak, Martins Ferry, OH; Frank E. (Diane) Jozwiak, Westerville, OH; two daughters, Helen(Lady) R. Hatten, Martins Ferry, OH; Lychel R. Shrodes, St. Clairsville, OH; brother, Bruce E. (Barbara) Shrodes, Martins Ferry, OH; sister, Dorothy M. Eiler, St. Clairsville, OH. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the funeral home Sunday 4 to 8 p.m.and Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Riverview cemetery, Martins Ferry with Rev. Paula Reithmiller officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Martins Ferry Purple Riders Stadium, Ayers Limestone Rd., Martins Ferry, OH 43935 or Martins Ferry Fire Depts., Martins Ferry,
Martins Ferry Fire Dept held services Sunday at 7pm and Martins Ferry Police Dept held services Monday at 7 pm. Military Honors were given Tuesday, at the funeral home, at noon, by the Belmont County Council of the American Legion.

HOMER A. ZEPPOS

HOMER A. ZEPPOS, (HARRY) 85, formerly of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Saturday, July 31, 2010.
He was born in Wheeling, WV on February 8, 1925, the son of the late John and Stamatina (Maniati) Zeppos.
He was a retired employee of Huntley Security Pittsburgh, PA and Krogers of Bellaire, OH. He was a member of Greek Orthodox Church Of The Life-Giving Fountain of Martins Ferry and also a life member of Ahepa. Harry served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion of Wheeling, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Vlachos.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Tillie A. (Bonchu) Zeppos of Martins Ferry; two daughters, Donna J. (Neal) Chase, Wheeling, WV and Diana M. (David) Marocco, Coraopolis, PA; sister, Mary Basle, Cannonsburg, PA; granddaughter, Natalie Marocco and grandson, Nicolas Marocco both of Coraopolis; several nieces and nephews.
Services are private at the convenience of family. Interment at Greenwood cemetery, Wheeling.

MARTHA C. HOSSO, (MUENZE)

MARTHA C. HOSSO, (MUENZE), 98, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Friday, July 23, 2010.
She was born in Wheeling, WV on November 30, 1911, a daughter of the late Frank and Tillie (Frieberthauser) Muenze.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Martins Ferry. Martha was very active in her church serving on several committees, former President of the Rosary Guild, making hundreds of Rosaries, which were sent to missions and the Armed Forces, a member of the Catholic Daughters, former member of church council, she volunteered for several years in the Library at St. Mary's Central School. She volunteered at the voting polls and served four years as City Treasurer for former Mayor John Laslo. She was a loving and caring Mother, Mother-In-Law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hosso and her only child, Harriett E. Miklas; brother, Earl Jr.; and a sister, Ruth Muesegaes.
Martha is survived by her son-in-law, Whitney L. Miklas; grandchildren: Michelle and (Edward) Groves, of Wheeling, Melanie and (Scott) Wensyel of Zanesville, Melissa Miklas of Columbus, Marilyn and (James) Stewart of Virginia, Mark and (Renee) Miklas of Bowling Green, Ohio, Mike and (Renee) Miklas of Martins Ferry and Maribeth Miklas of Columbus; nine great-grandchildren: Justin and Shaye Wensyel and Devyn (Aaron) Shumaker, Zane, Emily and Cameron Stewart, Kelly and Kyle Miklas and Kayla Miklas; and one great-great grandchild, Kenna Isabella Shumaker.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was held at St. Mary's Church on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Interment followed in Riverview cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary's Church or St Mary's Central School Library, N. 4th Street, Martins Ferry, OH 43935.

FRANK B. LINDSEY, JR.

FRANK B. LINDSEY, JR., 68, of Bridgeport, OH, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family members, on Friday, July 16, 2010.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on May 26, 1942, son of the late Frank B. and Pearl M. (Powell) Lindsey.
He was a retired employee of the Cardinal Plant, Brilliant, OH; retired employee of the former Brown-Williams Funeral Home of Wheeling, WV and the L.C. Williams Funeral Home of Steubenville, OH. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Bridgeport, OH and Pastor Emeritus of the church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Ava.
He is survived by three sons, Scott (Kathleen) Lindsey, Oley, PA; Frank "Kip" Lindsey, III, Bridgeport; Sean (Amy) Lindsey, Bridgeport; three daughters, Tamara (Fred) Hocker, Bellaire; Joelle (Chris) Johnson, Bridgeport; Shannon Lindsey, Bridgeport.; mother of his children, Carolyn Lindsey. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, nine great -grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Friends were received Wednesday at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 200 Howard St., Bridgeport, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service was held at the church Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Myron Seals officiating.
Interment followed in Highland cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, OH.

ROSE P. POLLOCK

ROSE P. POLLOCK, 94, of Wheeling, WV and formerly of Tiltonsville and Colerain, OH of passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 while in the company of family members.
She was born in Provident, OH on March 19, 1916; she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Glista) Pempek.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Pollock; numerous brothers and sister.
She is survived by daughter, Rosalie J. (Sylvan) Dlesk, Wheeling, WV; daughter, Louise A. Strauss, Martins Ferry, OH; daughter, Sandra (David) Brothers, Bridgeport, OH; daughter, Karen K. (Charles) Moore, Worthington, OH; daughter, Patricia (Louis) Krol, Yorkville, OH; daughter, Marsha Zupko, Colerain, OH; son, John S. Pollock, Jupiter, FL; son, Ronald K. (Pamela) Pollock, St. Clairsville, OH; daughter, Janice L. Pollock, Bridgeport, OH; son, Robert J. (Connie) Pollock, Martins Ferry, OH; Also surviving are one brother, Frank and one sister, Helen. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Friends were received at the funeral home Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. A private funeral service was held at the convenience of the family.
Interment followed in Greenwood cemetery, Wheeling, WV.

JOHN E. RITTS

JOHN E. RITTS, 75, of Sheets St., Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in East Ohio Regional Hospital.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on January 16, 1935, the son of the late Harold and Viola (Orminski) Ritts.
He was a retired employee of the former Blaw-Knox Foundry; a veteran of the U.S. Army; member of the National American Legion; member of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Roman Catholic Church, Wheeling, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary C. (Cain) Ritts.
He is survived by three sons, John N. (Opal) Ritts, Martins Ferry, Danny E. (Kim) Ritts, Bridgeport, Ohio, Robert (Cheryl) Guy, Bethlehem, WV; daughter, Paula M. Guy, Bellaire, Ohio. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at the funeral home Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Father Bakhos Chidiac officiating.
Interment followed in Mount Calvary cemetery, Wheeling, WV.
Wake service was held Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Full military honors were given by the Belmont Co. Council of the American Legion prior to the service at the funeral home.

ROBERT J. KUNTZ

ROBERT J. KUNTZ, 71, of Martins Ferry, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, WV, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born in Wheeling, W. Va. on December 1, 1938, a son of the late Leonard and Mary V. (Paulus) Kuntz.
Bob was a life-long towboat captain who truly enjoyed his job with the Bellaire Harbor Service. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry. He enjoyed relaxing with family and watching turkeys and talking about everything and anything. He was a devoted man who would do anything for his family and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Brown and a brother, Donald Kuntz.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 26 years, Deborah (Riley) Kuntz; five sons, Mark D. (Martha) Kuntz, Wheeling, WV; Stephen C. (Carrie) Kuntz, Greensburgh, PA; Philip B. (Sunmie) Kuntz, Martins Ferry; Brent J. (Tiffany) Brown, Martins Ferry; Danial L. Kuntz, Martins Ferry; daughter, Nikki Kuntz, Martins Ferry; four brothers, John Kuntz; William Kuntz; Joseph (Connie) Kuntz; Terrance (Mary) Kuntz, all of Wheeling, WV; three sisters, Sally Alig, St. Albans, WV; Sue (John) Marple, Wheeling, WV; Darlene (Edward) Bryniarski, Lansing, OH. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Martins Ferry at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010 with Rev. Thomas A. Magary as the celebrant.
Interment followed in St. Mary's cemetery, Martins Ferry.
Wake service was held at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m.
