Ralph D. DeShetler,
(1939-2005)

MONTPELIER - Ralph D. DeShetler, 65, of Montpelier and formerly of Toledo, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at the emergency room of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Montpelier, following a two-year battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 8, 1939, in Toledo, to Frances (Demaree) and Wilson DeShetler, he married Linda Rae Clay on Dec. 29, 1964, at Lebanon, Va., and she survives.
A graduate of Blessed Sacrament and Whitmer High School in Toledo, he retired in 2001 after approximately 15 years at Zepf Community Health Center as an unlicensed social worker and head of the maintenance dept.
A U.S. Army veteran, he attended St. Casper's Catholic Church in Wauseon. He was a member of the Pioneer Lions Club, A.M.A. (Academy of Model Aeronautics), and was past president of the Fountain City Square Dance Club, Bryan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Renee) Weber of Delta and Todd (and wife, Stefanie) DeShetler of Dallas, Texas ; three grandchildren, Raymond and Sarah Weber and Grace DeShetler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, La Vita Bellner and a nephew, Brad Bellner.
Visitation will be held Thursday after 10 a.m. in St. Casper's Catholic Church, Wauseon.
A prayer service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the church with Father Bob Holden to officiate.
Interment will occur later at Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Logan, W. Va. Thompson Funeral Home-Montpelier is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Pioneer Lions Club Sight Program, American Cancer Society or to the donor's choice.

Patricia Ann Partee

REYNOLDSBURG - Patricia Ann Partee, 60, of Reynoldsburg died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005.
A graduate of Capital University she was a traveling string specialist music teacher for the Columbus City Schools from 1967 to 2001. She was a member of the Ohio Music Teachers Association and played string bass with several Central Ohio orchestras.
Among her survivors are her uncle, Louis (and wife, Louise) Bishop of Bryan, and aunts, Rose McGlaughlin of Sherwood and Edna Nickels of Elmira, Mich.
Funeral services were held Feb. 18 in Reynoldsburg.
Condolences may be sent to her sisters, Joan Cox, 163 Hillgail Rd., Pataskala, Ohio 43062 and Janet Hagelberger, 16419 Havenwood Drive, Woodburn, Ind., 46797.

Floyd E. Higgins

MONTPELIER - Floyd E. Higgins, 86, of Montpelier, died early this morning, March 22, 2005, at the Toledo Hospital, Toledo, following an illness.
Funeral service arrangements are pending at Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.

Luella Dorthea McVay
(1917-2005)

OAKWOOD - Luella Dorthea McVay, 87, of Oakwood, died Sunday, March 20, 2005. Born May 30, 1917, at Putnam County, to Amy (Troyer) and John Holt, she married Willard R. McVay on Oct. 8, 1939, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1996.
A homemaker, she was an active member of the Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Sharon) Foust of Oakwood; a son, Dennis (and wife, Mary) McVay of Oakwood; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Glenna) Cooper of Defiance.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Willis Holt and Clyde Holt; a sister, Mary Rhodes; and a great-grandchild, Deanna Ripke.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. in the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and Thursday one hour prior to services in the Auglaize Chapel Church of God.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Monroe Township Cemetery, Continental.
Memorials may be made to Auglaize Chapel Church of God, Oakwood.

Jesse L. 'Chalkey' Short
(1913-2005)

ARCHBOLD - Jesse L. 'Chalkey' Short, 91, of Archbold, died early Monday morning, March 21, 2005, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, where he had been a patient since March 7, following a short illness.
Born Sept. 1, 1913, near Archbold, to Malinda (Aeschliman) and Amandus Short, he married Lucille Lantz on Sept. 20, 1933, and she survives.
A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he had owned and operated the Jesse L. Short Oil Co., Mid America Highway Express, was part owner of Bryan Truck Line and later owned and operated Blissfield Truck Line.
He was a charter member of the Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, James L. (and wife, Barbara) Short and Gregory A. Short, both of Archbold; two daughters, Mrs. Marlin (Nancy) Riegsecker of Upland, Calif. and Linda Rychener of Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters-in-law, Maggie Short and Suzette Short, both of Archbold; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Pauline) Short and Lawrence (Ruby) Short, both of Archbold; and a sister, Fannie Gisel of Archbold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Terry Short and Larry Short; a son-in-law, Tom Rychener; a grandson, Brent Short; three brothers, Nathaniel 'Smoke' Short, Willis 'Bill' Short and Cornelius Short; and two sisters, Kathryn Nofziger and Mary Short.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. in the Zion Church Fellowship Hall.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastors Ron Guengerich, Mona Sauder and Anne Stuckey to officiate. Interment will precede in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Mennonite Church or the donor's favorite charity.

William T. Sampson,
(1926-2005)

MONTPELIER - William T. Sampson, 78, of Montpelier, died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at the I.C.U. of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan.
Born Aug. 30, 1926, in Adrian, Mich., to Addie (Sharr) and Willis Sampson, he married Carolyn A. (Blinzler) Strawser and she preceded him in death in November 2003.
Retired from the U.S. Navy as an HMC E-7 after 30 years, he was a member of the Voiture NO. 997 Lenawee Co. 40/8, a life member of Morenci American Legion Post No. 368, Fleet Reserve and the Montpelier Eagles.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. Danny (and wife Jodi) Krill of Angola, Ind.; a stepson, Jon (and wife, Pam) Strawser of Pioneer; five grandchildren; three brothers, Jim (Joyce) Sampson of Chillowack, British Columbia, Canada, Jack (Jan) Sampson of Morenci, Mich. and Richard (Ruth) Sampson of Pioneer; and two sisters, Mrs. George (Betty) Gould of Jackson, Mich. and Sharrlene  Taylor of Florida.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Potts.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m. in the Montpelier Eagles Lodge with Jack Sampson to officiate. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, with graveside military rites to be performed by the Morenci American Legion. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the Eagles Lodge.
Thompson Funeral Home-Montpelier is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Joost

SHERWOOD - Kathryn Joost, 82, of Sherwood, died Sunday evening, March 20, 2005, at the Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance.
Arrangements are pending with the Burr Funeral Home & Crematory of Sherwood.
