Donaldson Robert 'Dewey' Keels
1919 - 2007
Donaldson Robert 'Dewey' Keels, age 87, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday evening January 16,2007 at his residence. Born June 22, 1919 in Rio Grande, son of the late Thurman and Pearl Howell Keels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, and five sisters.
Don was a retired supervisor for the Ohio Dept. of Transportation (ODOT) where he worked for over 40 years. He was a United States Army Veteran, and a graduate of Rio Grande High School.

He is survived by his wife: Margaret Elizabeth Hill Keels, who he married on October 29, 1949. Daughter: Deidra Keels of San Franciso, CA.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday January 19, 2007 at Pine Street cemetery. A procession will form at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home at 10:45 P.M. on Friday. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Gallia County Senior Center 1157 St. Rt. 160 Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.

John H. Nibert
1918 - 2007
John Hill Nibert, age 88, of Gallipolis, died Monday January 15, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. Born January 21, 1918 in Bladen, he was the son of the late William and Blanche Hill Nibert. In addition to his parents he was preceded by, his wife Reva Iris Newhouse Nibert, who he married on November 30, 1940 at Greenup, KY. And who preceded him on January 19, 2001, by a son, Roger Lee Nibert, and by four sisters, Ann Gibson, Olive Nibert, Elva Myers, and Clara Nibert.
John retired from G&J Auto Parts after 40 years of service. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, and a member of American Legion Post #27.

He is survived by:

Two Sons: Fredric Lynn (Judy) Nibert of Letart, WV.
John Arlen (Joy) Nibert of Reynoldsburg
7 Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Thursday January 18, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral Home with Pastor Brian Dunham officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 PM.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of your choice in John’s memory.

Helen Faye Adams
1915 - 2007
Helen Faye Ross Adams, age 91, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday evening January 9, 2007 at her residence. Born October 23, 1915 in Bladen, she was the daughter of the late B.W. and Lucy M. ‘Kate’ Halley Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, James E. Adams who she married on August 30, 1941 in Bladen and who preceded her on January 7, 1994, and by two brothers, Roy and Russell Ross.
She is survived by:

Nancy (Bryce) Smith of Gallipolis
Michael (Susan) Adams of Marengo
Lucy Jo (David) Karr of Carroll
Ten Grandchildren, and Thirteen Great Grandchildren.
Sister: Virginia (Gardner) Campbell of Warren Half Sister: Carol S. Ross of Wellston
Half Brother: Jim Ross of Huntington
Sister In Law: Eloise Ross of Gallipolis
Cousins: Bonnie Patrick, and Mary Proffit both of Gallipolis

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Saturday January 13, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Holzer Hospice 100 Jackson Pike Gallipolis, Ohio 45631.

Margaret Ann Johnson
1919 - 2006
Margaret Ann Johnson, age 87, of Gallipolis, died Saturday evening December 30, 2006 at her residence. Born august 3, 1919 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late George and Gracie Springer Angel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her step-father malcome Angel, by her husband Homer W. Johnson Sr., 2 sons, Melvin Johnson, an infant son Lester Johnson, 2 infant daughters, Phyllis and Juanita Johnson, infant sister, Viola Springer, sister, Betty Johnson, and 4 brothers, Tom, Clarence, and Virgil Johnson, and Marshall Lane.
Margaret was a homemaker and a member of Bell Chapel Church.

She is survived by:

4 children: Joann Brumfield, Homer (Judy) Johnson Jr., Regina Adkins, and Mary (Howard) Jaques all of Gallipolis.
One sister: Hazel Adkins of Gallipolis
15 grandchildren: Connie Burd, Tammy Mollohan, Tom Brumfield, Cindy Jones, David Johnson, Steve Johnson, Mindy Nance, Troy Johnson, Keith Johnson, Lynn Robie, Keith Adkins, Rebecca Lunsford, Timothy Cox, Chad Cox, and Scott Jaques.
21 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren,
Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Monday January 1, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastors Truman Johnson and Matthew Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from noon until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be: Chris Burd, Nathan Mollohan, Chad Cox, Jason Walter, Tom Brumfield, Keith Johnson, Tim Cox and Scott Jaques.

Paul Allen McCarty
1925 - 2006
Paul Allen McCarty, age 81, formerly of Gallipolis, died Saturday evening December 23, 2006 at the Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center in Pomeroy. Born march 30, 1925 in Cheshire, he was the son of the late mary McCarty. In addition to his mother he was preceded by his aunt who raised him, edna McCarty, and by a daughter, Tammy McCarty.
A graduate of Gallia Academy High School, he was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a former agent for the National Life and peoples life Insurance companies. He later was employed as a nurse at the Gallipolis Developmental Center.

He is survived by:

4 children: Mike (Linda) McCarty of Vinton
Keith (Cheryl) McCarty of patriot
Richard (Janet) McCarty of xenia
Pam (Ed) Smart of Albany
10 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren

He was formerly married to Louise Johnson

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Thursday December 28, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastor Gene Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the time of service.

Military funeral honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia county veteran's services detail.

Clyde 'Junior' Hunt
1934 - 2006
Clyde Hunt ‘Junior’, age 72, of Gallipolis, passed away at his residence on Saturday December 23, 2006. Born October 11, 1934 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Mabel Glover Hunt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by 2 brothers, John Jackson ‘Jack’ Hunt, James Franklin Hunt and by a sister, Audrey Stewart.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of Patriot United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his Wife of 53 years, Hilda Garvin Hunt, 6 Sons, Randy (Tava) Hunt, Dennis Hunt, Roger Hunt, Steve Hunt, David (Tracey) Hunt all of Gallipolis, and Jay (Trina) Hunt of Ashland, KY. 2 Daughters, Rita (Larry) Fitzwater, and Janice Click of Gallipolis. Several Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. 2 Brothers, Richard and William Hunt both of Cincinnati. 6 Sisters, Emily Stewart, Dorothy Jones, Mary Speaks, Ethel Randolph, all of Cincinnati, Betty Queen of Gallipolis, and Sue Rubenstahl of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be at Noon on Wednesday December 27, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Jane Ann Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Old Mercerville cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9 PM.

Frank Edward Braxton, Jr.
1940 - 2006
Frank Edward Braxton, Jr., age 65, of Gallipolis died Wednesday December 20, 2006 at Holzer Medical Center. He was born December 28, 1940 in Washington, DC, son of Frank E. Braxton Sr. and the late Geneva Althea Johnson Braxton. He was married to Bobette Dexter Braxton in 1964, in Gallipolis. He graduated from McKinnley Tech Vocational High School, Washington DC. He achieved his bachelor's degree at DC Teachers College and his Master's from Trinity College, Washington DC.
Frank had an extensive employment history and accomplished many of his life long dreams. His employment began as a computer programmer at George Washington University, Washington, DC, June 1964. After earning his B.S. degree in both mathematics and business administration, he taught at Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia, in 1971. In 1974 he transferred to Montgomery County Public Schools, Rockville MD. Frank returned to the computer field in 1979 with Tracor, Inc., Rockville, MD, and continued working in this capacity through 1998 for many different associations, contractors, and other businesses. He attended the Department of Agricultuire's Graduate School and earned his WebMaster certification. He founded his web-based business in Gallipolis. While doing this he also taught at Buckeye Hills Career Center, Rio Grande, OH, and retired from Vinton County High School, MacArthur, OH. He was a member of the Gallia County Historical/Genealogical Society, John Gee Black Historical Center, Goldwing Riders Association, and the Vinton County Pilots Association.

He is survived by his Wife: Bobette of Gallipolis; Father: Frank Braxton Sr.; Sister: Yvonne (Sidney) Jones, Washington, DC; Sons: Shawn (Monica) Braxton, Thomas Austin-Braxton, and Joel Braxton, of Maryland; and sons by choice Richard Cipperly, Joseph Yaver, and Adam Salisbyr; Grandchildren: Samantha, Nathaniel, Michael, Olivia, Nicholas, Thomas, and Geneva; Great Grandchild: Alexis; Daughters by choice: Gina, Nicole, and Tonya; 6 Nieces and Nephews, 9 Great Nieces and Nephews; and life-long friends Ernest Hensley and Reginald Smith.

Funeral services will be Noon Saturday December 23, 2006 at the Paint Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Sidney Arnold Sanders
1926 - 2006
Sidney Arnold Sanders, age 80, of Gallipolis, passed away Thursday December 14, 2006 at his residence. Born December 3, 1926 in Lawrence County, he was the son of the late Arnold and Goldie Shaw Sanders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by an infant Daughter Diane Sanders, by a Grandchild Derek Nelson, and by 1 infant Brother, and by 3 Sisters, Naomi, Annabelle and Audrey, and by 1 brother, Blaine.
Sidney was a Derrick Boat Operator for the Mt. Epling Company for many years, and retired from the Shamblin Stone Co. He attended the First Church of God.

He is survived by:

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday December 19, 2006 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Voss officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanders cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

Leanna Joan Biars
1948 - 2006
Leanna Joan Biars Mays Lucas was born on July 15, 1948 in Gallipolis. She received her wings and flew away to be with the Lord on December 12, 2006 at her residence. She will be met at the gates of Heaven by those who preceded her in death. Her parents Ora E. Lucas and Jane Alphretta Barcus Lucas Queen, Step-Father: Hollis Sanford Queen, Sister: Barbara June Lucas George and Daughter: Donna Colleen Mays Amey.
And those of us left behind take comfort that Joan is securing us a place in Heaven. She was married for 24 years to Paul Edward Biars of Gallipolis; Daughter: Carmen (Randy) Deckard of Vinton; Son: Doug (Jen) Mays Jr. of Cheshire; Son: Dean (Valerie) Mays of Gallipolis; Daughter: Crystal (David) Camp of Jackson; Grandchildren: Elisha Amey, Sara Mays, Marilyn Mays, Tarilyn Mays, Diane Russell, Delia Russell, Jacob Mays, Nathan Mays, A.J. Mays, Ethan Mays, Caitlin Biars, Logan Camp, and Landon Camp; 1 Grandchild: Alexander Bonice; Sisters: Carla (Wilmer) Parsons of Thurman and Connie Lear of Crown City; 6 Brothers: Gary of Columbus, Jerry of London, Vernon of Gallipolis, Dean of Addison, Mike of Crown City, and Wendell Lucas of Cheshire.

In the short time you were here your presence has shaped and guided our lives. You will be dearly missed by all.
