Charles Edward Barry
1944 - 2007
Charles Edward Barry, age 63, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday October 16, 2007 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born July 19, 1944 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Grant Barry and the late Mary Raines Barry White. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a sister, Vada Barry.
Charles was a construction worker, and also did farm work for several years. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by a sister, Morjean (John) McGuire of Gallipolis, a nephew, Rex McGuire of Gallipolis, an uncle, Emmett Raines of Gallipolis, and a special friend and hero, Bobby Griffith of Gallipolis.

Earlier in his life he made his home with the Virgil and Ollie Swain family and was like a brother to Candi Baughman and Ricky Swain both of Gallipolis. He also at one time in his life made his home with the Newt and Mary Wray family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Saturday October 20, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Bob Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Crown City cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.

Pallbearers will be: Mike Harrison, Jack Caldwell, Wendell Unroe, Ancel Lamm, Bob Griffith, and James Lucas.

Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.

Lura B. Smith
1924 - 2007
Lura B. Smith, age 83, of Patriot, 'Went home to be with the Lord' Sunday evening, October 14, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. Born March 11, 1924 in Logan County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ken and Lucy Pearl Grimmett Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by two brothers, Benny Robert Harrison, and Asa Harrison, by three sisters, Zanie Marie Harrison, Rose Ann Fowler, and Mary Simms, and by a daughter in law, Annie Mae Richards Smith.
She was a graduate of Jackson Manpower cooking school, and worked in the cafeteria at Rio Grande College and later at Holzer Medical Center. She faithfully attended several area Churches including, Salem Baptist Church, Centerpoint Baptist Church, Old Emory Church, Nebo Church, Silver Memorial Baptist Church, and the Centenary Church.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, growing beautiful flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by: her husband, Elmer R. Smith, and she was a loving, caring, and praying mother to her five children, Michael, David, and Doug smith all of Gallipolis, and Sandra (Paul) Vergez, of Colorado Springs, CO., and Sharon (Roger) Evans, of Gallipolis. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Amy Beth Pearce of Gallipolis, Chris, Brian, and Laura Vergez, of Colorado Springs, CO., Hubbell and Boeing Smith of Gallipolis, Makaylend and Marshall Evans of Gallipolis. Two sisters, Martha Faye (James) Cox, Margaret (Herman) Griffith, of London, OH., three brothers, Julius Harrison of London, OH., Tennis and Amos Harrison of Logan, WV. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Thursday October 18, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastor Charles Curry and Pastor Ishmael Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Salem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Grandsons, nephews, and son in laws will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to either Salem Baptist Church, Holzer Cancer Center, or the Gallia County Senior Citizens Center.

Clyde Carlton Williams
1927 - 2007
Clyde Carlton Williams, age 80, of Mary Esther, Florida and formerly of Gallia County, died Saturday morning October 20, 2007 at the Ft. Walton Beach Medical Center in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. Born July 4, 1927 in Gallia County he was the son of the late Clyde Williams and the late Mabel Barry Williams Halley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his stepfather, Coleman Halley, and by a grandson.
Clyde was a retired grocer and an avid gardener.

He is survived by his loving companion of 37 years, Ruby Gillespie of Mary Esther, FL., a daughter, Sharon (Tom) Martin of Charlotte, NC., two sons, Terry (Karen) Williams of Columbus, Stephan (Angie) Williams of Dallas, NC., two sisters, Juanita Williams of Springfield, and Kay (Raymond) Mammolite of Springfield. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1:30 PM. Thursday October 25, 2007 at Ridgelawn cemetery in Mercerville.

Charles Richard 'Charlie' Houck
1962 - 2007
Charles Richard 'Charlie' HouckCharles Richard 'Charlie' Houck, age 45, of Bidwell 'Went to be with our Lord and Savior' on Sunday November 18, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. His death was unexpected.
Born January 4, 1962 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Denver Harvey and Wilma Maxine Rice Houck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister in law, Ellen Houck, by 2 nieces, Patricia Marie Simpkins, and Dorothy Carol Simpkins, and by a great niece, Katie Ireland.

Charlie attended Gallia Academy High School. He was employed as a mechanic for the Gallia County Local Schools, where he had worked for 17 years. He previously worked at Harry and Lanny's service station on Vine Street. He was a member of Morning Dawn Lodge #7.

He is survived by:

Fiancé: Darlene Hampton and her children, Kali Hampton, and Christopher Brady Hampton.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Wednesday November 21, 2007 at Providence Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Barcus officiating. Burial will follow in Providence cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM. and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services.

Masonic services will be conducted at 8:30 PM. Tuesday at the funeral home by Morning Dawn Lodge #7.

Pallbearers will be: David Simpkins, Roger F. Houck II, James McCarty, Todd Houck, Justin Ireland, Charles North, Denver W. Houck Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Floyd Wright, Jim Camp, earl Ireland, Mitchell Ireland, Travis Houck, Christopher Brady Hampton.

Marjorie May Gates
1918 - 2007
Marjorie May Gates, age 89, passed away Monday, December 10, 2007, in Brookville, Ohio. Born May 13, 1918, in Gallipolis Ohio, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Edgar Ross Wallace and Alberta (Safford) Wallace. Marjorie was married to Lawrence F. Gates on March 31, 1937. Marjorie and Lawrence enjoyed forty-three years of marriage before his death in 1980.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lewis and Joyce Gates; her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Christina and Corbin Minch; her great-grandson, Andrew Minch; her sister, Alma Wallace; and her nieces, Rebecca Bowman and Deborah Warden. In addition to her husband and parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Lewis Warden.

The family is especially grateful to the nursing staff of Brookhaven and the staff of Hospice of Dayton for their attentive care during Marjorie's final hours. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420, or a charity of their choice.

A private funeral service will be held at the family's request.

Mary Elizabeth Runion
1941 - 2007
Mary Elizabeth Kimberling Runion, age 66, of Crown City and formerly of Leon and Mason, West Virginia, 'Went to Be with Her Lord' on Wednesday December 12, 2007 at Holzer medical Center, after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes.
Born November 10, 1941 in Leon, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Verlin Dencil and Mary Miller Kimberling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband Tommy Runion who she married in April of 1966, and by two brothers, Charles and Earnest Boswell.

Mary is survived by one daughter and son in law, Betty (Dave) McCormick of Crown City, two grandchildren, Jamie (Amber) Mitchell of New Haven, and Kylie McCormick of Crown City, two great grandsons, Alex and Ethan Mitchell of New Haven, who were the absolute joys of her life. Other family surviving include brothers and sisters, Carl Boswell of Leon, Dencil (Connie) Kimberling of Leon, James (Mary) Kimberling of Pt. Pleasant, Bonnie (Steve) Crouse of Gallipolis, Kenny Kimberling of Columbus, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Also a very special friend and caregiver Rebecca Curtis who was just like one of the family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Sunday December 16, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastor Gary Warner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Nick cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 5-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Mary Runion memorial fund in care of the family.

Cyrus Edward Donley
1925 - 2008
Cyrus Edward Donley of Gallipolis
On Tuesday February 26, 2008 Cyrus Edward Donleys battle with an extended and debilitating illness came to an end. Born July 11, 1925 in Jackson County, (the Oak Hill community) he was the son of the late Leslie Leck and Valuria Babe Matthews Donley. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a son, Brian Donley, sister, Joyce Greer, brother, Bobby Dean, his first wife, Eleanor Snyder Donley, and a niece, Christina. He leaves behind a devoted and loving wife, Joann Donley, sons, Michael (Paula), Scott (Melissa) and daughter, Patricia (Clifford) Thomas, stepdaughters, Sheila (Tim) and Becky (Carl) White. Brothers, Paul (Lois), Elmer (Martha), Buck (Joyce). Sisters, Zonie Burnside, Delores (George) Barnhart, Mary (Marvin) Capehart, and Belva Kulify.Granddaughters, Melissa, and Misty. Grandsons, Shawn, Matt, AJ, and Daniel Clifford. Great Granddaughters, Alexis, Britney, Emily, Laura, Sara, and Autum. Also two special life long in laws, Irene Hart, and Eloise Wilking and a multitude of nieces, and nephews.

He owned and operated a restaurant in Gallia County for many years. He also formerly served in the Merchant Marines.

He loved his family, and often expressed how lucky he was to have his wonderful wife Joann in his life.

A memorial service will be 2:00 PM. Saturday March 1, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Parkinsons Foundation.

Faye Rees
1912 - 2008
Faye ReesW. Faye Rees, age 95 of Gallipolis, died Friday morning February 15, 2008 at Holzer Assisted Living in Gallipolis. Born July 21, 1912 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Mary Danner Houck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Paul C. Rees in 1990, and by 8 brothers, and 5 sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Paul E. Rees of Dayton, Ohio and Gene (Janet) Rees of Bidwell, two grandsons, Nick (Lynn) Rees of Westerville, Ohio, and Todd (Sharon) Rees of Williamsburg, Virginia. Two Great Grandsons, Sam and Levi Rees of Williamsburg, Virginia.

Faye was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and the Abigail Circle. She was also a member of Gallipolis Chapter Eastern Star and the White Shrine.

Faye will be remembered by many for the bakery she operated in her home from 1941 until she was in her late 80s. Many marriages started with her wedding cakes and many holidays were celebrated with her pies and cakes.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Tuesday February 19, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 PM.

Pallbearers will be: Nick, Todd, Sam and Levi Rees, Charles Baker, Steve Carter, and Larry Rees.

Violet Faye Fulks
1919 - 2008
Violet Faye Fulks, age 88, of Crown City, died Wednesday February 13, 2008 at Arbors at Gallipolis. Born November 9, 1919 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late John and Grace Wallace Belville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Howard Ray Fulks, one Sister, and one Brother.
Violet was a homemaker and attended the Good Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by:

2 Foster Sons: James Cox of Gallipolis
Robert Stewart of Crown City
2 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren
1 Sister: Jennie

Services will be private.

Clarence Junior Mooney
1940 - 2008
Clarence Mooney Jr. known as Junior, age 67, of Crown City, died Saturday February 2, 2008 at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Born May 7, 1940 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Rosie Galloway Mooney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by two brothers, John Lee and Harold Mooney, and by two sisters, Lucy and Norma Jean Mooney.

Junior attended Liberty Chapel Church (Paw-Paw). He worked as a carpenter and construction worker.

He is survived by one son, David Junior Mooney of Crown City and his eight children, an adopted granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Mooney of Gallipolis, one daughter, Rita Harmon of Belle, West Virginia, and her two children, Ryan and Ashley Wolfe, two brothers, Alvin Mooney of Crown City, Franklin Mooney of Crown City and one sister, Ivadell Hall of Lady Lakeview, Ohio. Also surviving is his former wife, Freda Mooney Hanna of Crown City and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Tuesday February 5, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Rev. Gary Warner officiating. Burial will follow in Victory cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to services.

Nellie Marie Watson
1910 - 2008
Nellie Marie McGuire Watson, age 97, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday January 29, 2008 at Holzer Senior Care Center. Born August 31, 1910 in Bladen, Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Roxie Craig McGuire. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Ira E. Watson who she married on May 5, 1927 in Circleville and who preceded her on March 23, 1980. by a son Charles Edward Eddie Watson on Dec. 8, 1991, by three grandsons, two sisters, and four brothers.

Nellie was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union.

She is survived by three children, Walter (Florene) Watson of Gallipolis, Hilda (James) Haner of Gallipolis, and Nellie Mae (William) Curtis of Chillicothe. Twelve grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. One brother, James Dray of Chillicothe, and one sister, Alice Tripp of Marshfield, Missouri.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Saturday February 2, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Hilda Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in Mina Chapel cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-9 PM.

Pall bearers will be: Lee,Timmy, and Jeff Watson, Lyle Shillington, Steve Shearwood, and Byron Welch Jr.
