Alice Adrienne Frazier
1937 - 2008
Alice Adrienne Frazier, age 70, of Gallipolis, died Tuesday January 22, 2008 at her residence. Born March 28, 1937 in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of the late Don Hoover and Charlotte A. Justice Hoover. She is also preceded by a son Bruce Frazier.
Alice retired after 28 years from GKN formerly Federal Mogul in 1999. Her lifes crowning achievement was to be a loving, supportive, self sacrificing mother. She is the proud mother of son Greg Frazier of Gallipolis, a retired Gallipolis City Patrolman who now works at the Gallia County 911 Center. Mindy Allie her daughter of Gallipolis, who worked at the Medical Plaza for 30 yrs and now is employed at Pleasant Valley Hospital. They are the very essence of her nature and character. She was also an avid flower gardener. Thanks be to God, in his Mercy, she went Home in His arms.

She is also survived by 2 brothers Rex Hoover of Gallipolis, and Don Hoover of St. Augustine, FL., 1 sister Joann Canaday of Gallipolis and 1 Grandchild Alice Elizabeth Allie.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM. Friday January 25, 2008 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in Rome cemetery. Friends may call at the Funeral Home on Thursday January 24, 2008 from 6-8 PM.

Pearl Elliott Burchett
1911 - 2007
Pearl Elliott Burchett, age 96, of Gallipolis, died Thursday December 27, 2007 at Holzer Assisted Living Center in Gallipolis. Born December 22, 1911 in Gallipolis, she was the daughter of the late Rev. H.M. Smith and the late Edith Boggess Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by two husbands, Rev. Emmett E. Elliott, and Rev. J.H. Burchett., by a grandson Jerry Evans, by five brothers, Gallias, Sterling, Carl, Paul Arthur, and Truman, and by four sisters, Lillian, Ruth, Mary Agnes, and Bertha.
Pearl worked for Dr. Francis Shane for many years. She was a life long member of the First Church of God, where she served as choir director for many years. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, served on several boards and committees and was active in the Women of the First Church of God. She also served for many years as a volunteer at Holzer Medical Center.

She is survived by :

Daughter: Yvonne (Pete) Nibert of Keowee Key South Carolina,
Granddaughter: Janie (John) Kantner of Canal Winchester, Ohio,
Grandson: Larry (Anita) Evans of Lancaster
Great Grandchildren: Bailey and Brendan Kantner of Canal Winchester, and Daniel Evans of Lancaster
Sister: Edith Taylor of Spring Hill, Florida
Step Children: Jim (Carolyn) Burchett, Joyce Humphries, Dick Burchett and Sharon.

Pearl had been faithfully attended by her Niece, Jean Saunders for the last five years.

She was also survived by several nieces and nephews including Rusty (Connie) Saunders and their son Nick.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Sunday December 30, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home with Pastor Paul Voss and Pastor James Burchett officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The First Church of God 1723 St. Rt. 141 Gallipolis, OH. 45631.

Carol Sue Johnson
1964 - 2007
Carol Sue Sanders Johnson, 'went to be with her Lord and Savior' on Wednesday December 18, 2007. Carol passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. Survivors include her parents, Dillard and Luree Sanders, her loving husband,
Eugene Johnson Jr., who she happily married on May 9, 1985.

Two daughters, Samantha and Stacy Johnson, her brother Tim (Mina) Sanders, two close and loving step daughters, Tina Carter, and Tonya Johnson, a Step son, Eugene Johnson III, three grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Carol was a devoted member and teacher at Bethlehem Church. She also was a volunteer teacher's assistant at Hannan Trace elementary School where she helped with children, a job she loved greatly. She was also a wonderful homemaker to her family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Saturday December 22, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home 810 2nd. Ave. Gallipolis. Officiating will be Eugene Johnson Sr. and Jimmy Sims. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn cemetery in Mercerville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethlehem Church in Carol's memory.

Pauline Anne Hyman
1948 - 2007
Pauline Anne Hyman RN., age 59, of Bidwell, died Saturday December 15, 2007 at Cabell Huntington Hospital as the result of an auto accident. Born March 20, 1948 in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late George Edward Hyman and the late Mary Bartosh Hyman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her step mother Frances Hyman.
Pauline was a registered nurse, working for HCR Manor Care in Westerville, OH. and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by:

Her life partner: Clarence Church of Bidwell, and his children, David and Eugene Valentine and their children, which she considered her own.
Two sisters: Gloria Henderson of Kerr
Pearl (Jake) Perry of Columbus
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday December 19, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral Home 810 2nd. Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio. Burial will follow in Centenary cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Cancer society.

Marguerite E. Hineman
1912 - 2007
Marguerite Ethel Moore Hineman, age 94, of Gallipolis, died Thursday March 1, 2007 at Pleasant Valley Hospital. Born September 1, 1912 in the prospect Community, she was the daughter of the late Thomas James (Squire T.J.) and Margaret Stella Livesay Moore. The last of her family, she was preceded by brothers and sisters, Earl E. (Emma Reese) Moore, Florence (Chauncey) Moore Sprague, Bessie (Charles) Moore Jeffers, Jake (Jewel Arrington) Moore, Leona (Rupert) Moore Trout, Ted (Fairie Fraley) Moore.
Educated in Prospect Elementary one room school in Springfield Township, near her childhood home.

Educated in the Gallia Academy High School, graduated in 1929 at the age of 16, the youngest in her class.

Graduated from Rio Grande College, now the University of Rio Grande, with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.

Attended Ohio University, one year, postgraduate studies.

Graduated from Marshall University with a Masters Degree in Educational Administration.

Marguerite taught school seven years in the one-room schools of Springfield Town ship in Gallia County. One year at Vincent, Ohio in Washington County. Twenty-Three years as teacher and administrator of the Bidwell Porter School.

The last five years of her career were spent as administrator of the Hannan Trace Elementary School, where she retired from in 1969.

She was the first women principal in Gallia County Schools, and organizer of the Gallia County Retired Teachers Association and served as its first president.

She was a member of Good Hope United Baptist Church, Bidwell United Methodist Church, Prospect Christian Church, Riverside Study Club, English Club, Atwood Club, Gallia County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the National Teachers Association, Springfield Grange, Ohio State Grange, and the National Grange, Gallipolis Business and Professional Women, where she served as president for two years.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society until the illness of her mother made it impossible for her to attend. Member of the Historical Society, Senior Citizens, and the Royal Neighbors.

She was principal of the Bidwell Porter School system when segregation took place in that school. The smooth transition in the school system during that time showed the love with which she was accepted in that community by the teachers and students alike, regardless of skin color.

She was chosen from the Gallia County retired teachers organization to have her name inscribed on a brick of the State Teachers Organization in Columbus.

She was selected for the Gallia Academy High School Hall of Fame in 2000.

Marguerite was united in marriage to Lawrence Hineman on November 3, 1943 in the Rio Grande Baptist Church. He was also a teacher and administrator.

She devoted 36 years to education and administration, while he contributed 40 years for a total of 76 years to the Gallia County School System. Marguerite was 94 years and 6 months of age on March 1, 2007 when she parted as the last of her generation of the Moore family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and all her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews locally, and across the nation, including descendents from Jake, Ted, and Earl Moore (the Moore’s, Smiths, Griffins, and Ebersbachs), from Florence and Chauncey Sprague (Sprague, Skidmore and Adams) and the Hineman family descendents. The Levisay (Livesay) and Kemper family descendents also survive.

Donations and flowers are accepted. Thanks to the Church of God, the Good Hope Church, and the First Presbyterian Church for their generosity and brotherhood.

Also preceding her nieces, Halman Moore Smith Hoff, Margaret Moore Smith, Eva Moore griffin, Dorothy Moore Ebersbach, Margaret Sprague, Teddie Anne Trout, Lucille Skidmore, nephews, George Leo (Buster) Sprague, Thomas Eugene (Tommy) Sprague, great nieces, Nola Florence Adams Brammer, and a great nephew, Russell Earl Smith who were very close to great aunt Marguerite. Also preceding her on the Hineman side are Eugene West and Delma Jean Edwards.

Surviving her are, nieces, Virginia Sprague Adams of Bidwell, Judith Kay Moore Grant of Dublin, nephews, Richard A. Moore of Gallipolis, Robert A. Moore of Gallipolis, Gordon Earl Moore of Columbus, nieces in law, Virginia, wife of Richard ‘Dick’ Moore, Penelope ‘Penny’, wife of Robert ‘Bob’ Moore, Gail Sprague, widow of Buster Sprague, Patricia ‘Patty’ Sprague, widow of Tommy Sprague, nephew in law, Robert ‘Bob’ Grant, husband of Judith Moore Grant.

Great Nieces, Dr. Gretchen Duling, Karen Mcullock, Amanda Sue, Lisa Grant, Shannon Grant, Heather Grant, Christine Moore Sass, Vicki Myers, Karen Sprague,

Great Great Nieces, Brittany Nicole Wilcoxon, Morgan Sass, Shyker Sass, Teresa Tabor Reynolds, Traci Long, Jacqueline (Jackie Lynn) Kessinger, Marcie Kessinger, great great nephews, Jack Long, and Isiah Reynolds.

Nieces on the Hineman side, Helen (Jim) Bragg, Ruth (Gene) Tillis, nephew on the Hineman side, Ernest (Ruth) Livesay.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Tuesday March 6, 2007 at the First Church of God 1723 St. Rt. 141 Gallipolis, with Pastors Ron Nicholas and Larry Drummond officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Monday from 6-9 PM. Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Elner Armstrong
1918 - 2007
Missionary Margaret Elner Hardgrow Armstrong, age 88, of Crown City died Thursday evening March 1, 2007 at her residence. Born November 15, 1918 in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Hight Armstrong. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Earl William Armstrong, and by an infant son, Richard, daughter Ellen Armstrong Morgan, brothers, Nathaniel, Clyde, Blanchard, and John Hardgrow and sister, Ruth Hardgrow.
She is survived by:

11 Children: Clarissa (William) Saunders –Minor of San Bernardino, CA., Earl (Bonnie) Armstrong of Bellevue, Nebraska, Stanford (Juanita) Armstrong of Atlanta, GA., Robert (Patricia) Armstrong of Crown City, Gene (Elaine) Armstrong of Bidwell, Gerald (Sue) Armstrong of Ellenwood, GA., Mary Armstrong Lee, of Harrisburg, PA., David (Nattie) Armstrong of Chino Hills, CA., Mariam (Lawyer) Pendleton of Detroit, MI., Lana (Edmond) McKoy, of Crown City, Samuel (Mary) Armstrong of Bidwell,.

Also surviving is a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

Margaret was a devoted servant of God and especially known for the foundation of Gospel Truth Walk in the Light Mission, and Camp Reliable Bible Camp. Through Camp Reliable, Missionary Armstrong touched the lives of many youths throughout the country, many of whom now serve pastors, teachers, and evangelists and the work of the Lord. As a vital member of the community, Margaret served many years as a volunteer at Holzer Hospital and the Gallipolis State Institute. Her hobbies included, Fishing, Jogging, and Cosmetology. Her enjoyment of cosmetology led to her owning and operating Gallipolis’ first black owned business on Second Ave., Margaret Hair Styles. However, the love of her life was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday March 7, 2007 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pine Street cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM. Until the time of service.

Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Opal M. Lloyd
1919 - 2007
Opal M. Lloyd, age 87, of Gallipolis, died Sunday morning March 11, 2007 at Holzer Medical Center. Born May 22, 1919 at McDaniels Crossroads in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob C. and Parnie Alice Wickline Miller.
Opal was a graduate of Cadmus High School; she attended Rio Grande College, and received her degree in education from Wilmington College.

Her teaching career spanned 37 years, starting in Perry Elementary School. She then moved into secondary education at Cadmus High School, then Centerville High School until its closing, and finally South-Western High School from where she retired in 1975.

Upon retirement her pride and joy was the 27 years she spent with the Chaplaincy program at Holzer Medical Center and Holzer Senior Care Center. She also spent many hours visiting with those who needed a friend, and someone to visit with.

Opal was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, The Gallia County Retired Teachers Association, The Order of Eastern Star, the Gallia County Historical Society and the Gallia County Genealogical Society.

She is survived by her husband William H. ‘Bill’ Lloyd who she married on December 25, 1954 in Centerville.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM. Tuesday March 13, 2007 at Grace United Methodist Church, with Pastors Bob Powell, Doug Stockton, Bill Thomas and Jay Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Monday from 5-8 PM. and at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 AM. Until time of service.

Pallbearers will be: Dwight Lloyd, Kevin Lloyd, Greg Spees, Aaron Kamer, Don Wolthe Jr. and Hayden Lloyd.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either Grace United Methodist Church 600 Second Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio 45631 or to Shriners Hospitals for Crippled or Burned Children 3229 Burnet Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.
