LeRoy L. Kesler
(1934 - 2005)

FAYETTE - LeRoy L. Kesler, 70, of Fayette, died Monday morning, April 4, 2005, at the Dilworth Center in Montpelier, where he had been a patient the past month. Born June 28, 1934, at Toledo, to Edith (Schuller) and Thayer Kesler, he had previously lived at Petersburg, Mich. and Archbold.
A factory worker, he had also worked for the Merchant Marines. He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 265 at Wauseon. Surviving is his former wife, Judy Kesler of Stryker; five sons, Ted (and wife, Karen) Kesler of Walbridge, Tim Kesler of Holland, David Kesler of Edon, Randy Kesler of Napoleon and Tommy Kesler of Fayette; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Deb) LaPointe of Toledo; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Jan) Kesler of Ida, Mich.; and three sisters, Mrs. Sid (Mary Jo) Gilbert of Dundee, Mich., Mrs. Gary (Lois) Kackley of Cape Coral, Fla. and Grace Kesler of Dundee, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas in infancy and Richard Kesler; and a sister, Kay in infancy.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Short Funeral Home, Archbold.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Wanda Stopher to officiate. Private family interment will be at a later time.
Memorials may be made to CHWC Hospice or to the family.

Myrtle A. Armstrong
(1908 - 2005)

EDON - Myrtle A. Armstrong, 97, of Edon, died April 3, 2005, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola, Ind., after an extended illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1908, at  Jackson Center, to Julia Frances (Wilson) and Lewis Phillip Schaffer, she married William E. Armstrong on April 4, 1925, at Newport, Ky., and he preceded her in death on June 17, 1981.
A homemaker and a member of the Angola Church of the Nazarene for 60 years, she served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent and in many other activity capacities for many years. In 1990, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the church for 42 years of faithful service. She was a past president of Edon KALA and served on the KALA advisory council. She was also a longtime volunteer at the Edon Middle School and in 1993 she was recognized by the State of Ohio for 60 years of consecutive voting.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Glenna Derringer of Bryan; three daughters, Pat Hay of Edon, Shirley M. Tibbs of Angola, Ind. and Mrs. Steve (Linda K.) Welmer of Bradenton, Fla.; four sons, Bill (and wife, Jenny) Armstrong of Bryan, Earl (Evelyn) Armstrong of Hamilton, Ind., Gene (Diane) Armstrong of Perry and Larry (Kay) Armstrong of Clear Lake, Ind.; 29 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers; three sisters; a daughter, Myrtle Eileen Armstrong; and a grandson, Timothy William Beck.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Marshall to officiate. Burial will follow in Columbia Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Angola Church of the Nazarene.

Maurice "Gene" Lantz
(1929 - 2005)

PETTISVILLE - Maurice "Gene" Lantz, 75, of Pettisville, died early Friday morning, April 1, 2005, at the Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he had been a patient for one week.
Born Aug. 13, 1929, at Pettisville, to Erma (Buehrer) and Ammon Lantz, he married Barbara First on Oct. 18, 1952, and she survives.
A lifelong resident of Pettisville, he had worked for 10 years as a security guard at Northwest State Community College prior to his retirement. Previously, he had served as a service manager in area car dealerships.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean War and was a past member of the Pettisville American Legion Post 445.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Allen (and wife, Gina) Lantz of Wauseon and Terry (Brooke) Lantz of Bryson City, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Kandy) Selgo of Archbold; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Dale (Jo) Lantz and Robert Lantz, both of Archbold; and two sisters, Ruth Lantz and Opal Lauber, both of Pettisville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wilbur Lantz, Emerson Lantz and Edwin Lantz; and a sister, Marjorie Stickley.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3-9 p.m. in the Short Funeral Home in Archbold.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Donna Stutzman to officiate. Graveside military services will follow in the Pettisville Cemetery by the American Legion. Memorials may be given to Sara's Garden.

James A. Crawford
(1951 - 2005)

James A. Crawford, 53, of Bryan, died Saturday evening, April 2, 2005, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan, following an extended illness.
Born Nov. 18, 1951, at Wauseon, to Marian (Plassman) and Albert Crawford, he married Sue A. Weber on Oct. 16, 1976, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wauseon, and she survives.
A 1969 graduate of Wauseon High School and also a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, he was employed at the I/R ARO Corporation as a manager of technical publications until his retirement in 1999 due to a disability.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bryan and the Fountain City and National Council Corvette Clubs. He was also a member of several classic rock bands, playing the bass and singing. He was a former baseball and softball coach in the Bryan youth leagues and was active in the Bryan Thunderdome remote controlled car racing Club of Bryan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn A. Crawford of Dayton; a son, Jon W. Crawford of Toledo; his mother, Marian Crawford of Wauseon; two brothers, Robert (and wife, Doris) Crawford of Franklin, Tenn. and Thomas (Tia) Crawford of Alpharetta, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Carl (Beverly) Ayers of Wauseon; father-in-law, Clyde Weber of Wauseon; a nephew and five nieces. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother-in-law, Anna Weber.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the church with Pastor David Proctor to officiate. Private funeral services and private burial were held in Wauseon Union Cemetery, Wauseon. Memorials may be made to the church.

Gay (Murbach) Bretthauer
(1906 - 2005)

MORENCI, Mich. - Gay A. Bretthauer, 98, a resident of Fulton Manor Nursing Care Center in Wauseon, since 2000, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at the Manor.
Born Aug. 7, 1906, in Stryker, she was the daughter of Nettie (Scheer) and John W. Murbach and graduated from Stryker High School. On Dec. 24, 1926, she married Loren Bretthauer of Stryker and he preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1974.
She was a homemaker, living in the Munson area following her marriage. After her husbandŐs death, she moved to Morenci and attended the Morenci Baptist Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Maurice Bretthauer of Wooster, Ohio, and Carol Sloan of Stryker.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Clair and Lawrence Murbach.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services in the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Floral Grove Cemetery near West Unity, Ohio.
Memorials may be made to the Morenci Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Betty Jean "Betsy" Kerr
(1933 - 2005)

GREENSBURG, Ky. - Betty Jean "Betsy" Kerr, 71, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at the  Taylor Regional Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1933, in Edmonson County, she was the daughter of Maggie (Lobb) and Elmer Gentry. On April 7, 1950, she married Franklin 'Rudy' Kerr, and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2005. A homemaker, she was a member of the Grace Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Randy (and wife, Ida) Kerr of Montpelier, Ohio and Ricky (Trish) Kerr of Russell Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Sherah K.) Carey of Greensburg; a sister, Shirley Dennison of Campbellsville; a brother, Charles Gentry of Coleman, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her parents; a sister, Thelen McGrew; and a granddaughter, Misty Dawn Carpenter in 1993.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Grace Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Grammer to officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of arrangements.
